What could he possibly owe? The question rang in my head as I felt Kaius's body tense up against mine. What does he owe?

"Kai-Kaius?" I spoke again, maneuvering my small body out from under his strong hold, looking up at him with big, doe eyes. "What does he mean by, you 'owe'?"

Money?

From the corner of my eye, I could see the way Kendrick struggled to stand, even with the help of him grabbing everything near him and pulling himself up against something stronger than he was at the time. There was dried blood on his shirt, and even some new blotches that had dripped down from the split open skin on the side of his face. "Shall I tell her, or should you?" Kendrick's question came out mockingly, taunting Kaius.

Land?

With Flynn behind me, I felt an urge to stand next to him. To plant my body straight against the wall while I pressed myself deeper into it until I moulded in completely, getting as far away as possible, but as my blue eyes flickered between the two men, I thought to myself, 'you must stay'.

Of course, I must stay! I'm starting to believe that I'm the only sane one in this room, er, hallway.

Kaius's top lipped curled up, letting out a rumbling growl towards Kendrick.

That didn't stop him, Kendrick tested him more by saying, "Well, answer?"

A life, maybe?

Curiosity was getting the best of me, as it always did, and as the time went on with the two of them glaring each other down, it became clear to me that I would have to ask for the answers myself. However, finding the right questions to ask was the problem.

My hand tugged at the bottom of Kaius's shirt, that was when I noticed the rip in it, looking down at the long hole to see that his own blood had soaked into his shirt, but there was no sign of a cut at all. He had already completely healed with no scar to prove it. Gulping as I looked up at my mate, about to lose some confidence, I asked, "Kaius, please, what is he talking about?" Another question asked, "What could you possibly owe to that man?"

"Do tell, Kaius. I would also love to hear what you have to say," Kendrick spoke up again, not bothering to take a single glance at me as he all but stared into Kaius, waiting for his answer.

In one fast movement, Kaius had launched himself at Kendrick with one hand opened wide as he charged straight for him. Kendrick had no time to react before Kaius had wrapped his strong hand around his throat and yanked him up against the wall so high up that Kendrick's feet were dangling.

A scream tore itself from my throat, slipping past my lips before I tripped backwards into Flynn, and reacting instantly, Flynn's hands grabbed onto my arms as he steadied me the best he could.

"Kaius!" My voice came out squeaky, like a squealing pig as I watched the horror unfold.

I have been kidnapped, twice! Locked in the basement, for eighteen whole years! And, to top it all off, I was mated to a man that my mama would most definitely not approve of, to then find out that he had killed my own flesh and blood! Why is this the part that is frightening me the most?

Kaius had his hand wrapped perfectly around his neck, in a hold that screamed nothing but deadly.

Kendrick gasped as his lips twisted into a sick smile, sinister. "What are you going to do, kill me?" He laughed, "You can't do that, you know you can't."

My mate was shaking, his arm that held up Kendrick was even hesitating.

Flynn let go of me, pushing me back on my own feet so that I wouldn't have his help in standing straight. Like a child, I felt like I was being pushed out of a parent's safety for the first time, and I found myself wanting to make Flynn do something. I wonder, could Flynn actually do something?

I looked back over my shoulder, Flynn stood there shaking in his steps as he gulped, his Adam's apple bobbing as he watched the scene in front of us. Well, I guess not.

You can do this, Amoret. You can, can't you?

I took a shaky step forward, you can do this, I'm sure of it.

"Kaius?" I asked, but I knew it didn't come out as confident as I felt it would. However, I was never the confident type, I relied on my parents more than most for my whole life.

It was Mama's time to feel guilty.

Now, I was close enough to get a good hold on his arm, and taking this moment, I wrapped my small hand around his arm that held Kendrick, but they weren't looking at me. They were staring straight at each other, with Kaius flaring his nostrils and Kendrick having a smug look on his face.

The sparks ignited the mate pull, feeding the fire as soon as my hand made contact with Kaius's bare arm.

"I need answers," I spoke, "Or else I'm leaving, and I won't be coming back."
