Chapter 31: The Wedding Planning

“Mom, please stop crying.” I begged as I stood in front of the mirror tugging my shirt down. “I haven’t even tried on any dresses.”

“I know.” Sniffle. Tear. Tissues. “I am just so happy. My daughter is getting married.” I let out a deep breath.

“Am I?”  I whispered to myself, but of course no one heard me. Everyone from Ethan’s sisters to every girl in my family was all around this small little boutique running around like it was black Friday. I couldn’t help, but feel confused with this whole situation. Ethan was apparently shocked when my dad offered the option of me getting married. He looked like a deer caught in a headlight. I could have sworn I could see sweat dripping from his forehead.  What if he didn’t want to get married? What kind of way is that to start off a marriage?

“How about this one?” One of my aunts screamed. I wished I could tell you which one, but my family was so big I could barely remember my name when they come over. I turned around to see a pink bubble gum suit.

“No.” I said narrowing my eyes. Everyone in the room gasped like we were in some Spanish soap opera. In the next hour I was shoved in to fifty different dresses with over a hundred different types of color. I could pass off as a rainbow. God these people had no taste in clothing, and that’s coming from me a girl who wore turtle neck shirts for half her life.

I started walking around the small store, and after passing blue, yellow, and green wedding dresses my eyes spotted one dress that caught my attention. I never understood why people would cry on those ‘Say yes to the dress’ shows, but when I saw that dress I finally understood. I hadn’t even tried it on, and for some reason I could feel tears in my eyes. I grabbed the dress off the racket, and grabbed my mom, Sal, Ethan’s siblings, and my little sister into a room.

“Why are we in here?” Sal said trying to squeeze into the confide space.

“Because I only want to share this moment with the people I care about, and not the people who talked crap about me and Ethan before the marriage.” My mom gave me a warning look that I totally ignored. I told them to give me five minutes. I went into the dressing room squeezing into the dress. When I walked outside, everyone’s mouth dropped.  I turned around to look at myself in the mirrior, and I gasped because this wasn’t me. This was a model. This was someone beautiful.

“This is the dress.” I whispered

“For the love god, I said roses who the hell picks dandelion for a wedding.” My wedding planner shrieked as me and Ethan tried to try on different cakes.

“This is disgusting.” Ethan  said if he eat the lemon cake. He took a small bite he made a sour looking face. I took my finger and rubbed the small little pieces of cake on the top of his mouth. I swear I saw him flinch. I dropped my hand and I decided to confront him.

“Do you not want to get married?” I asked and I saw Ethan stunned. “Because if you don’t then we don’t have to because I swear to go Ethan if we get married and you want to get a div-.” I felt a hand cover my mouth shutting me in silence.

“It’s not that. It’s just everything happening so fast. I know we been together for five years, and I always knew you were supposed to be the only one in my life, but I just thought if we got married it wouldn’t be because of the situation.  I would ask you to marry me and the ring would be personally be made. It wouldn’t be force, but it would be because we were sure.” He jumped out of the chair rubbing his face. I stood up taking his hands off his face.

“Okay I understand what you are going through. It happen so fast, but think about it if this didn’t happen then we would never have my families blessing. Imagine if we were to have children and they were never able to know their grandparents or their sister. If you think about it we all already married. We bicker, fight, get along, and we live together its just we are now putting a label on it.” Ethan smiled and held my hands.

“I guess you are right.” He said.

“I am always right. Now lets try this devil chocolate heatattck of a cake.” Ethan smiled and led me to the counter.

“You know chocolate cake has always been my fa-“ I felt something hit my fork. It was as if I heard a clingy sound of two metals. I pulled out the object to only notice it was a ring.

“What is th-.” I looked at Ethan to only see that he was sitting on the floor down on one knee. “What are doing?” I sheriked.

“I didn’t want to ask you like this, but I still wanted you to look back in twenty years and be able to have a proposal even though this wedding was rushed.” I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t feel my legs, but I could feel the waterworks on my cheeks.

“I know this isn’t the most ideal way to have a major. Not when your dad sick, and half your family hates us, but this day isn’t about them. This day is about how we gave up everything for each other. The sacrifice we made. The fights we had. The broken pieces we fixed. It’s a day we celeberate our love for each other. It’s a day that we start the beginning of forever, and end it lying old in our beds watching our grandkids play. Naina Kappor will you allow me be the luckiest man and marry me?”  I choked out or mumbled something around the words ‘hell yes’. I jumped on Ethan and he swung me around. God I love this man. I loved how he was so romantic, and he did the craziest things to show his love for me. When I settled on the floor, I pressed my forehead against his and slowly pressed our lips together.

“I” kiss. “love.” Kiss. “you.”

“Me.” Kiss. “too.”

The door swung open only to reveal our old wedding planner breathing in relief. “Well that was taken care of. Okay so which cake?” She ask eyeing the lemon cake. I replied in heartbeat looking directly at Ethan when saying it.

“Chocolate cake.” The old lady gasped in shock.

“Chocolate cake at an elegant wedding?” Even though she was staring at me like I was crazy I couldn’t help, but smile directly back.

“It’s perfect.”

“I can’t believe Aman had a bachelor party.” Sal said laughing as we settled on my bed.

“Ican’t believe he had one and he hired a male stripper instead of a female one.”  Isaid rolling on the bed laughing. “But you should have seen Ethan’s face. At first he was going to punch, but when the stripper came out he was mortified well that’s what Raj told me.” I said clutching my stocmach. After we finished not being able to breathe for fifteen minutues.

“I can’t believe you are getting married tomorrow.” I smiled down at my ring and look at her.

“Me either. Like if we have a high school reunion everyone is going to be in shock that I ended up with Ethan. That one girl Brittney I think is her name would die of shock. In twenty four hour I will be Mrs. Meyers people will assume I am white when they first meet me.” We started laughing again. We laughed and talked until we fell asleep.

Like in the movies I woke up to see the bird chirping and the sun shining. The door slowly creaked open to reveal my mother at the door.

“Good morning Bride, are you ready to have an Indian wedding?” I snuggled my pillow and laid their dreamingly.

“My Indian wedding.”
