Chapter 16: Just a little bit Tipsy

“This is a bar. I repeat this is a bar.” I repeated in disbelief as I looked around at my surroundings.

It was Greek themed and filled with all kinds of people. Most of them had a beer in their hand, but some were sitting at a table eating finger foods and talking it up. The bar smelled like body odor and there was nowhere to sit.

“No Shit Sherlock. What gave it way? The large sign that says "bar" or the large people drinking hardcore liquor.” He snorted. I walked over to him and punched him right in the gut. Which I am pretty sure didn’t do any damage because of his stupid muscles.

“I don’t appreciate your sarcasm.” I responded while rolling my eyes.

“I don’t appreciate you stating the obvious.” Instead of replying with a smart ass comment, Ethan took the liberty to walk past me and towards the large table with the bartender right behind it. I followed right behind him looking like a lost puppy.

I looked so out of place that it was not even funny. I was still in my baggy- grey sweatshirt and my loose black sweatpants. My hair was in a tight pony tail with a few red highlight strains falling in front of my face. After an hour in the salon, my contacts were irritating me so I ended up putting my glasses back on. Most of all, I was wearing Sketchers. You know the name-brand kids shoes with Velcro instead of laces.

Why, was I wearing children footwear because as a child I never learned how to tie my shoelaces and my parents never thought it was necessary to teach me. Since I was a grown woman and they did not really have Velcro shoes for adults I was force to shop at the children’s department. Yeah that was an embarrassing day especially when I was trying on a pair of shoes and a four year old that was sitting right next to me, trying on the same exact pair. Why didn’t I just wear flats, because when you are touring every square inch of Athena sneakers are your best choice.

I looked like a thirteen year old girl walking into a bar with basically people who looked like convicts, druggies, and what I assume, hookers. It didn’t really help my case that I was with Ethan because being with someone who looked as hot as Ethan (yeah im not even going to deny it. I could probably eye rape that guy's face all day) was only resulting in the ‘hookers’ giving me dirty stares.

Basically to sum it up, their stares were saying ‘why is someone as hot as him with a girl like that’ or ‘he could do so much better like me’. I am not really good with confrontation even with my new fiery red hair, so instead of “sticking up” for myself like a normal human being would do I was hiding behind Ethan as if my life depended on it.

“Ethan!! My Boy!!” The bartender screamed as he rushed over and pulled Ethan to a bear hug. To say I was scared was an understatement. The guy looked like he could probably eat me alive.

Ethan was already six foot tall, but next to this guy he looked like a freken midget. The guy would have to be at least seven feet tall, and im not even exaggerating. He had a black tank top exposing his large brutal looking muscles. The guy wasn’t fit, but he took being fit to a whole level. I swear I saw his veins popping out. He had absolutely no hair, I am pretty sure I could see my reflection on his head, and to top it all off, when he smiled, all his teeth were shiny white expect one gold tooth. He looked like he was part of the Mafia.

“Hey Uncle Vasillis.” Uncle? Did he just say Uncle or am I just hearing things?

“My favorite Nephew, what do I owe this great pleasure to?”Yep these two were defiantly related. They didn’t even look related expect both of them shared the same emerald eyes.

“You guys know each other?” I finally spoke. They both turn to me. The larger guy, Vasillis, was startled by my voice and Ethan just forgot I was here in the first place. Neither of them answered my question instead Vasillis turned back to Ethan and started talking to him in a whole different language.

“Poios eínai af̱tó to paidí mazí sas ? Eínai i̱ kopéla sou ? An af̱tí̱ eínai dekatría den tha í̱tan af̱tó na sas kánei énas paidófilos ?” What type of gibberish was he speaking?

“Haha” Ethan wasn’t really laughing, but just annoyed to what this large man just said. “No, she is not my girlfriend. She is my friend and she is eighteen. I am not a pedophile.” My eyes just widened what the hell they were talking about.

The man turned back to me. “Well a friend of Ethan is a friend of mine! What your name cutie?” You think I would be creeped out when he called me cutie, but it was more in a father-daughter way the way he said it. Plus a big guy saying the word cutie only made me want to laugh.

I cleared my throat. “Naina.” I raised my hand out in front of me. Doing the polite thing, the Mafia man would have shaked my hand, but instead he pulled me to a bone crushing hug. I think I would have died if it wasn’t for Ethan pulling me out of the guys' grasp. As I was trying to learn how to breathe again, Ethan started screaming at his uncle that he can’t hug strangers.

“Its fine.” I said while waving my hand dismissively.

“Its not fine Naina you look pale.” Ethan yelled.

“Stop being overly dramatic.”

“ I am sorry young lady. Its just us "Barsos" are huggers. Where are my manners! I am Ethan's uncle.”

"Nice to meet you." I smiled at him while turning myself to face Ethan. “You never told me you had family here?” I questioned towards Ethan.

“Well you never asked. Plus I wasn’t expecting my uncle to be working to here anyways.”

“I hate to leave you guys, but the bar needs my attention. It was nice meeting you, and Ethan, since you are in town you better come by and meet your grandma and the family.” He gave Ethan a stern look saying that he couldn't refuse, that he had no choice but to come.

“I will! This is a school trip, so I might not be able to make it.” He responded.

“Well you better try or your grandma will beat you with a cane.” I would have laughed if he was kidding, but he was dead serious.

“I will try! Now get back to work!” The guy didn’t hesitate to go back in to bar.

“What was that!?” I half yelled to Ethan after his uncle left.

“That was my uncle. My whole dad's side of my family lives in Athena. This is my families bar, but usually they don’t work Tuesday night. I am part greek.” He shrugged.

“A little heads up would have been nice.” I said flatly.

“Just be grateful it was my uncle and not my aunts or, God forbid, my grandma.”

“Why are we even here?” I questioned. “To meet your family or something?”

“Nope! Why would I take you to meet my dysfunctional family we only started talking a week ago. We are here because…” He paused for dramatic effect as he took a piece of paper out of his back pocket. “Of this.” He handed it towards me.

“We are here for a piece of paper?” I was super confused. I didn’t understand why he couldn’t just tell me straight up instead of using all these charades.

“Open up the piece of paper Einstein.” He said sarcastically. I let my hands unfold the white paper, and scanned the writing until it landed on a particular sentence.

3. Get drunk (yes I am aware of the massive hangovers)

My jaw dropped as I processed the information. “I am not getting drunk.” I stated.

“Yes you are.”

“No I am not.”

“Yes you are.”

“No I am not.”

“Yes you are.”

“I am not having this argument with you; you are getting drunk! You wanted to do this that’s why you wrote it to begin with.”

“I was probably drunk when I wrote this!”

“Your conscious wanted you to get drunk that’s why you wrote it to begin with.” He said while tugging my arm towards the bar. He made me sit on the high bar stool.

“Five shots of Vodka!!"He yelled to his uncle.

“Are you crazy!! We are underage!!”

“ That’s the beauty of Europe you don’t have to be 21. You only have to be eighteen.” His uncle obviously stated as he slid the small white clear glass towards us.

“I am not drinking this crap Ethan.” I said firmly.

“One shot. Only one shot and then I wont force you to do any more unless you want to.”

“Arent I am suppose to say no to peer pressure?”

“You should embrace peer pressure.” He said smirking.

“What kind of delusional habits were you taught as a child?”

“Drink.” Ethan said while pushing the alcoholic substance towards me.

“You are a bad influence.”

“Come on Naina live a little!”

“Drinking Kills you.” I retorted.

“Naina please.” His voice was desperate.

“Ughh fine! One shot though.” I said giving up. If my teachers from the fifth grade were here, they would be disappointed in me because I signed a pledge saying I would be alcohol free and now I was breaking it.

I stared at the clear substance and brought it up to my nose, instantly gagging at the repulsive smell. How do people drink this crap? I guess I would find out.

“I hate you.” Was the last thing I said before letting the substance burn as it hit my throat.

Ethan's (POV)

There are three things I learned from a drunk Naina; she is insane (and that’s a nice way of putting it). She was probably crazier than a mental patient, she was very seductive, well at least tried to be, and she already tried “flirting” with a guy our age and so far it worked...until she threw up on him. Yeah the guy wasn’t really happy about that. Naina was also very truthful when she was drunk.

“Then in the sixth grade my mom wore a saree (Indian clothing) and she asked me how she looked. I told her she look skinny, but she look really faaaaaat! I am such a horrible daughter!! I am going to go to hell or get reincarnated as a grasshopper.” She was having an emotional break down and I honestly did not know how to deal with a girl crying. I never really knew how to comfort them, so I awkwardly patted her back as she continued to sob.

Getting Naina drunk was a terrible idea.

It was only one shot but then soon enough she drank every glass on the tray. “Its okay Naina.”

She was also freken bi-polar when she was drunk. It only took her two minutes to jump out of her depressing state and start running around in circles.

“Look I am an airplane.” She yelled at the top of her lungs while stretching her arms as far as she could not caring who she was slapping in the face.

“CONTROL YOUR GIRLFRIEND!!” A biker looking guy yelled at me after Naina slapped his face three times with her airplanes move.

“Sorry wont happen again.” I swear Naina was going to be the death of me.

“Naina! Come back here!” I yelled, but for some odd reason she found this amusing.

“Nope!!!” She jumped on top of the bar and began to scream.

“Attention everyone!!” Everyone continued talking pretending she wasn’t even there. “Who wants to see me strip!” Oh crap, seductive Naina was back.

This seemed to get every perverts attention in the bar as they began to cheer. Naina grabbed the end of her sweatshirt and began to tug it upwards. It took me a couple of minutes to process what was going on.

“Oh no you don’t!” I grabbed her from the back of her legs and swung her over my shoulders. That was a close one. This girl was out of control.

“Let go of me you rapist.” She said while pounding on my back. Really I was the rapist? These guys would have raped you if it wasn’t for me. I pushed the bar door open and began walking in to the cold night.

“Let go of me!!!” I dropped her onto the floor and she began screaming. I grabbed her by the wrist.

“Shut up!! Just Shut up!!” I yelled in her face. Her eyes widened in shock and she remained silent for thirty seconds.

“You have pretty eyes.” She said breaking the silence.

You have pretty eyes too. “Yeah I know.” I smirked.

“Whats your name?” Jeez she was random.

“Ethan.” I said hesitantly.

“I know an Ethan!!!” She said smiling in excitement.

“Really?” I respond while raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah! Hes really hot! Like really hot. He is super sexy.” She said smiling and I couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.

“Really?”

“Yeah and he's really sweet, nice, and funny, but sometimes he can be a jerk. Like one second he is super nice and sweet to me and then the next second he is so annoying. He is like a mystery.” I don’t know what it was about this girl, but for some reason she had a weired affect on me that no one has ever had before.

“But even though he can be annoying, for some reason I think I might li…” She just stopped talking and I couldn’t help, but wonder what she was going to say. There were so many possibilities and I had an urge to ask her to keep on going, but she decided now would be the perfect time to sing twinkle twinkle little star.

“Lets get you to bed.” I grabbed her arm and tugged her down the street.

***

After tucking Naina into bed, I went back in to my room, grabbed a bottle of Advil, and left it on her dresser. Luckily she collapsed on the bed not waking up Sal.

I was lucky because now I wouldn’t have to deal with her nagging me and asking why I brought her friend home drunk.

I looked at her one last time before I left. She looked so vulnerable, so soft. Her hair fell over her face and I just had an urge to tuck it in behind her ear. My hands involuntary brushed her precious face. She looked like a sleeping angel. I just let out a faint smile and turned around.

I felt something tugging me backwards. I turned around to see Naina holding onto my wrist. She stared at me for what seemed like eternity. Its like time stopped for these few seconds, letting me memorize her beautiful face. How could she find herself ugly? She was far from it. She wasn’t like everyone else that went to our school.

She was different.

She stood out without even without trying.

She was unique.

She was gorgeous.

“Ethan.” Her voice was so soothing and tender. Just one word was able to send goosebumps down my arm.

“hmm.” I said not being able to form words.

“You asked me if I loved Raj that one day.” What was she talking about? Oh, the twenty question game we played. She never gave me an answer, but for some reason I was pretty sure she was about to tell me.

“Im not in love with him.” I don’t know why, but for some reason I felt relief spread through every limb of my body.

“But I think I might be falling in love with him.” She said as she let go of my hand and drifted off to sleep.
