Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

He was sitting on the bed, dressed in his black attire, foot tapping gently against the tiled floor and hands playing with the mobile phone anxiously. But his eyes? His eyes were fixed on the clock, waiting-

12:57 am

Waiting; like a vicious predator, holding back till he finds the right time to strike and hunt down his prey - Or maybe like that examiner who stands by and marks the time until he's ready for the examination - Or maybe like that fresh out of highschool teenager, twiddling thumbs until midnight, so he could hit the clubs.

Anyhow, It was indeed a difficult task; sitting in his bedroom around midnight, killing time until every single soul in this mansion has entered the La La Land.

12:59 am

Rye glanced at the clock for one last time before dialling the Headquarters.ย

"This is CIA Headquarters. How may I help you, Sir?"

"It's agent Beaumont here. Please direct this call to Alex Millichamp from Technology Department."

"Sure. Please wait."

While the call was being directed, Rye pocketed his phone after connecting it to wireless earphones. He opened his laptop, logging into his CIA ID and sending urgent emails to Blair and Robbie.

"Yes, Ryan?" He heard Alex's voice after a minute.

"You ready?" He mumbled, putting on a cap to hide his airpods.

"Always." Came the confident reply.

"Let's get on with it then."

~

The night was cold and silent, and as dark as a yawning grave, suffocating and consuming Ryan's whole being. The howling wind pierced through the night sky, tackling the tall magnificent walls of the mansion which stood proud and unscathed amidst the city of ancients, London.

As he walked closer to his destination, he couldn't disregard the feeling of immense guilt which threatened to swallow his pride and willpower.

Taking one last look around the lengthy hallway, he gathered his scattered thoughts and turned the door knob slowly.

The room was illuminated by moonlight which poured in through the large windows and fell right upon the owner itself : the owner of this mansion. The owner of this room.

And maybe, just maybe, the owner of Ryan's heart.

Inhaling sharply to ignore his heart's regretful cries, he walked towards the side table where the desired subject laid unguarded.

"Did you get it?" Alex's voice called through the earphones.

"Yeah. Just give me a moment." Rye whispered, looking at Andy's sleeping face. The moon painted his skin silver like the ice queen's abode, glistening and shimmering but ever so cold and out of his reach.

Sighing inaudibly, he grabbed the book and walked out of the door, never once looking back.

~

"It's written in pure French and a bunch of unknown ancient symbols are dispersed through various sections of the book. We might need more than one person to decode it."

"I see." Blair pursed his lips together as he watched Alex printing out the pages which Ryan has sent to him a few minutes ago. Robbie was on call with Belora right now, informing her of their change of plans.

"How long will it take us to decode it?" Blair questioned the technologist.

"A maximum of two to three weeks."

"That's a long time." Blair furrowed his eyebrows.

"The map of Fowler's mansion is almost ready. We just need Jack to slowly hack into their system and fuse all connections." Mikey's voice rang through the telecom speakers.

"That will take about 12 to 13 days, which means we have a total of two weeks to prepare for the final strike." Blair concluded.

"Belora has been informed." Robbie stated as he walked towards his commander, "We need Ryan to keep in contact with her."

"That won't be a problem."

"Venom Noir is within our hands." Alex smirked as he handed the book's copy to Blair.

"Rye will deal with Andy tomorrow. Jack is already preparing notes to figure out his strategy. Sonny is staying at our hospital, supervising Harvey and his father." Mikey apprised.

"And you are after officer Rodgers." Blair finished with a satisfied nod.

"Yes Sir."

"Well done boys. Our work is done for the day. Get some rest." He said before walking out of the Headquarters.

The alarm clock blared loudly, waking the blonde beauty from his peaceful slumber. He groaned before smashing the annoying object and curling back into the comfort of his blankets.

Just as he was ready to doze off once again, there was a knock on his door.

"Andy!" A woman's voice called out as the door knob turned, "Wake up, sweetheart."

Andy peeked through half closed eyelids and his face lightened up immediately. He bolted out of the covers and ran towards the old woman.

"Mercy!" He cried out happily as he hugged the only mother like figure he had left in his life. "I missed you so much." Mercy laughed heartily and pecked his head.

"I missed you too, son."

"How was your vacation?" He asked enthusiastically as he lead her towards the couch.

"Very fun. It was nice to spend some time with my family after so long." She told him with a crinkly smile.

"That's amazing. But You know, It was so lonely here without you. Dad hasn't come home for almost two weeks. It was just Rye, me and those idiotic guards." Andy complained with a pout, to which Mercy laughed and patted his shoulder lovingly.

"How is Ryan?"

"He is--" Andy was interrupted by another knock on the door, followed by a stoic Ryan Beaumont walking in.
He glanced at Mercy and greeted her with a small smile.

"We were just talking about you, Rye."
Andy said cheerfully.

"Ah, That's a good thing. I've finally earned some fans." Rye joked, earning himself a halfhearted glare from the blonde.

"By the way, You have University today. You're already a bit late so hurry up." He told the boy emotionlessly before leaving the room.

"You seem to like him now." Mercy mused with a knowing look. Andy blushed and looked away.

"It-it's nothing. We're just friends... I guess." He frowned slightly at the thought.

"Okay. You should freshen up. I'll prepare breakfast for you."

~

"Rye?" Andy looked at his bodyguard as they drove to the University. Rye seemed to be in a bad mood today. He had been thinking about questioning the brunet for the past five or so minutes before finally mustering up the courage to just go for it.

"Yes?"

"We made a plan to skip University today so we could meet Belora and translate the book."

"Yes, I... I remember..." Rye paused, "Actually, Andy... I have decided to just let it go."

"Let it go? What do you mean?" Andy was flabbergasted.

"What I mean is that.. It's a waste of time, really. You should just focus on your studies right now instead of these ancient poisons or whatever."

"But Rye--"

"Andy, Please try to understand." Rye interrupted him, "You are the only child of your father. You are the heir of your family. There is so much responsibility for you to take on right now. This isn't the time for useless researchs."

"And how come you suddenly got this idea out of nowhere?" Andy asked fiercely. Ryan remained silent.

"What happened, Rye? Speak up--"

"Your father called me last night."

Andy quickly shut up and stared at Rye in confusion.

"You didn't tell him, did you?"

"No. We had no conversation regarding this topic. However, he seemed really down." Rye frowned, "He was worried for you."

"For me?"

"Yes. You and Your future. Your father is a great businessman and wants you to follow in his footsteps. However, your carelessness worries him sometimes." Rye sighed exasperatedly, "He told me he doesn't want to pressure you into anything but I could hear the distress in his voice."

"Oh." Andy bit his lip, feeling the guilt creeping into his heart, "I.. didn't know."

"He asked me to not discuss anything with you but I couldn't help it. I know it's your family's personal matter but since he decided to share his feelings with me, I thought you should know as well."

"I see." Andy knitted his brows together, "Thank you for telling me. I'll try to be more careful and responsible now."

As Ryan stared at the guilt-ridden face of the young boy, his heart clenched regretfully, twisting ruefully in the pit of his stomach.

He wished he had another choice.

He really did.

~

"I mean, I know Rye is right but.. I was just so excited to find more about this particular piece of history." Andy sighed, resting his face on his folded arms. It was Lunch break and He was sitting with Brooklyn in the cafeteria.

"I still find it hard to believe that your father discussed something so personal with Ryan." Brooklyn wondered as he munched on his snacks.

"Yeah, I was also confused at first. But then again, Rye has no reason to lie to me."

"Maybe there is a reason that you're not aware of."

Andy's eyes flickered to his Bestfriend, who - for once in his life - looked somber and mature.

"Are you... sure, Brook?"

"No. Rye doesn't seem like the fraud type but we might never know. After all, the phrase 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' is sometimes taken as negative connotation."

"Wow, Brook. I didn't know you have a brain in that thick head of yours." Andy snorted, causing the younger blonde to glare at him.

"Where is Jack, by the way?" He asked after a short pause.

"Jack is absent today. He texted me last night that he won't be able to come since he's sick."

"Oh. Poor guy."

"I was thinking about visiting him after Uni today but then I remembered, I have no idea where he lives."

"You can ask him to give you the address."

"I did. He told me not to worry and that he'll be back tomorrow."

"I see." Andy paused to take a sip from his coffee, "What are your plans for Halloween?"

"Still not sure. I mean, We still have a whole week to plan our outfits and all." Brook shrugged casually. Both of them then engaged into a random conversation, setting aside their previous doubts about Ryan and his loyalty.

Soon enough, The bell rang, signalling the end of Lunch break.

Somewhere in Southern Florida

"Ah-Ugh--"

"Mmhg-fuck--"

Groans and pants filled the oblong shaped room, hitting the tall mahogany walls of Fowler's private beach house.

Suddenly, the phone rang, breaking through the intense sounds of pleasure. The grizzly haired man grunted and pulled out of the auburn slave. Not bothering to put on anyย  clothes, he made his way towards the phone and picked it up.

"I told you not to disturb me while I-"

"Sir, there has been a problem."

David halted his words as soon as he heard the panic in Xander's voice. It was unusual for someone as calm and reserved as Xander to panic over something simple.

"What happened?"

"The drugs which were being exported to Spain via our private jet.. they are...." Xander paused nervously.

"What?! What happened to them?" Fowler raised his voice furiously.

"They have been raided." Xander let out a depressed sigh, "The plane was hijacked and all the connections have been cut from our sources."

"What!?" He pulled on his hair, leaning on the wall from shock. The slave had already left, sensing his sour mood but he has a feeling that he'd need her services once more now.

"We've shut down the system for now, in case another mishap takes place. Our men have already gone to search for the captured team. We just need to ensure your and young master Fowler's safety."

"Andy.. Oh my--" David felt his heart swelling up with fear and disconcertment, "Please make sure Andy is safe, Xander. If something happens to my son, I wouldn't be able to live."

"Don't worry, Sir. His safety is our top priority. Our men are keeping a close eye on him and besides, His bodyguard seems to be taking good care of him."

"Okay- I'm coming back from the next flight to England."

"I don't think that would be a good idea. We have no idea if it was the FBI or the CIA behind this incident, but we can't let you walk into the lion's den, unprotected and without a proper plan. You must hide in Florida for a few more days. I'll let you know when it is safe to come back."

"Okay. Please Take care of Andy!" Fowler beseeched for one last time before hanging up.
