So without further ado, the chapter-

Raven came closer, and pulled me down harshly.

"I don't know if he's ever mentioned the name, but Aaron used to have a girlfriend called Avalon." She began and I listened in at the odd prospect of Aaron being in a committed relationship.

"He was so different before when he was with her. He loved her so much and I think she brought out the best in him. One day, there was this party at Danny's house. Aaron was with his us all and Avalon was with some other friends. Maybe if she was with him, she wouldn't have done what she did." She said

"What did she do?" I questioned, wanting to hear the answer.

Raven sighed and moved closer.
"Aaron caught her sleeping with a guy. She blamed it on being drunk, but it broke him. He loved her so much and when he saw them together, you should've seen him Alexis. It was horrible."

"What did he do?"

She stared out the window a little while longer before turning back to me.

"He broke up with her and beat the guy up. Turns out, the guy wasn't drunk, so he knew he was sleeping with Aaron's girlfriend"

"Then?" I asked, shocked. Raven sat back a little, more relaxed with me.

"The girl transferred schools out of sadness and the boy left the school, afraid he'd get beaten up by Aaron again. After that, Aaron stopped believing in love. He just had a relationship for sex and didn't try to form a bond with the girls."

"He might have the chicken pox?"

Aaron's eyebrows furrowed at Danny's words as he turned to him with a frown.

"Why would you even come to that conclusion?" He asked, feeling as confused as he always did when he spoke to Danny. Usually, he would go along with Danny's stupidity as it would annoy Justin, but Justin wasn't here right now. And, this topic was about him.

"I don't know. You said J Bear's acting strange, so it must be chicken pox. Being distant, not hanging out with us, what else could it be?" Danny asked pointedly, staring at Aaron as though he had grown two heads. Aaron chalked Danny's incredulous answer to it being the last day of term and his head being fried from all the learning.

In usual circumstances, he would joke with Danny regarding this and tease him but, right now, his mind was much too occupied with other things.

With how Justin had been acting for the last 3 weeks.

At first, he had thought it was just Justin being sleep deprived as that tended to happen a lot but, as time progressed, he realised that it was something more that was up with him; something he didn't wish to share.

That could be the only reason why Justin had been avoiding them so stringently. There was never a day where they didn't see each other, but that had shifted now and Aaron worried that something concerning had happened to Justin.

"Maybe we can squeeze it out of him when he comes. I give the tightest hugs!" Danny offered excitedly and, while Aaron agreed that Danny's hugs were like being constricted by a snake, he didn't think it would be the best solution. He let out a sigh as he sat back into the sofa, swirling the contents of his cup mindlessly.

"Who's to say he'll even show up? He didn't show up to the last one." Aaron muttered as he surveyed the crowd of teenagers around them dancing and a small silence fell.

Even if Danny didn't notice that Justin was acting off, he had most likely been disheartened by Justin's absence as well. It was something that Aaron noticed as Danny would never be sat down at a party. He would always be the first one dancing, most likely on a table. He never was one to sit and, perhaps, it was because he too felt a certain sense of shift within Justin.

"Look, there!"

Aaron turned at Danny's booming words, looking to the door just as Justin walked in, taking out his earphones.

He didn't even survey the room nor look in their direction as he walked towards the kitchen and Aaron wasted no time in getting up to follow in his direction. He could hear Danny's heavy footsteps behind him as they walked through to kitchen where Justin was pouring himself a drink.

"Yo, how you been?!" Danny was the first to talk as he waltzed in, making Justin look up and he nodded in acknowledgment.

"Good." Was all he said and then he was taking his cup with him as he walked out of the kitchen. Now, he was always one for short, clipped answers, but this was different; Aaron could tell. His words were dismissive, haste as though he wanted to leave, but Aaron wouldn't be one to relent.

He moved forward hurriedly, following right after Justin as he made his way to the lounge, towards his seat where he would often sit and survey the party around him.

"Justin." Aaron called out and Justin stopped in his tracks, looking back with his peripheral, eyes a dead grey.

"What?" He said bluntly and Aaron moved closer at this until they were within talking distance at the loud party.

"How have you really been?" He asked curiously, the concern evident in his tone, but Justin showed nothing in his expression, sporting the same blank face as usual. It was generally a face that Aaron could read, despite it being blank, but not today.

"I said good, didn't I?" Justin answered bluntly before turning back to move and Aaron moved forward, his words tumbling put before he could control it.

"Did I do something?" He asked and it was then that he saw the only notable emotion in Justin as he stiffened before he turned around.

"No." Was all he said, but it was strong enough for Aaron to know that he meant it.

"Then what? Tell me." Aaron spoke and Justin only sighed, turning around to finally look at him fully.

"It really is nothing. The exam weeks were just tiring." He explained and Aaron shook his head in response.

"I've known you for nearly 10 years: you've never been like this during the assessments. You've got something on your mind." He spoke firmly and with conviction to which Justin shook head, another tired sigh leaving his mouth.

"Well, perhaps this time, I found the topics for the exams more difficult." He suggested weakly and Aaron bit his tongue to mention that no topic was difficult for Justin. He was an A* student, through and through.

"Then why have you been avoiding me? Even in the cafeteria, you didn't come." Aaron asked, trying to gauge Justin's reactions, but he gave none, only lifted his cup to his lips.

"I just wasn't hungry." He muttered and it only increased Aaron's confusion. He knew that Justin was lying and he wondered what had made him resort to lying when it was the thing that he despised the most. Even when he had kissed Raven 2 months ago, it had eaten away at his conscience; it wasn't in his nature to do so and, that too, casually. Aaron spared a hesitant look around to see if a certain someone was there before he turned back to Justin.

"I've noticed it with me and Danny... but more so with Avalon. Is everything okay?" He spoke, looking around to make sure she wasn't within hearing vicinity. If she heard, it would only hurt her feelings and Aaron did not want that. No, the last thing he would want is for Avalon to hurt and he knew that this was the same case for Justin. They both cared immensely for Avalon in ways that made them understand each other more.

"Why wouldn't it be?" Justin questioned, but there was a sharpness to his tone, like a hidden negativity to his voice and Aaron frowned.

"You know, both Avalon and I have been worried about you over the past two weeks. She hasn't stopped crying." Aaron spoke, his chest feeling heavy at the thought of her tears and his eyes widened as Justin let out a scoff, instead of his usual concern-filled tirade. In other instances, he would have foregone his own sadness, if it meant placating Avalon. There was no one he held more dear than her, so it confused Aaron that Justin didn't seem to care about it.

"Now, I definitely know you're not okay, tell me please." Aaron insisted and Justin only sighed at this, shaking his head.

"There's nothing to tell." He stubbornly finalised and Aaron huffed, brushing a hand through his hair.

"Do you not trust me or are we not as close as I thought? We would always tell each other everything." Aaron admitted his inner emotions and Justin looked up, meeting his eyes with an icy gaze. In his eyes, Aaron could see conflict and he waited with bated breaths as a few beats of silence passed. After what seemed like a century, Justin looked up, a resolution in his gaze.

"I need to tell you something." Was all he said and Aaron nodded before urging him to continue to which Justin opened his mouth to speak.

"Aaron!"

They both turned as Mason walked over, a look of concern on his face.

"Have you seen Avalon anywhere? Raven said she stepped out 15 minutes ago to answer a phone call, but she's nowhere to be found now." He spoke and Aaron felt the dread fill him, head snapping around to see if he could see her familiar strands of beautiful blonde.

"Have you asked everyone or called her phone?!" He asked hurriedly as he moved past Justin and Mason trailed behind him as they looked around.

"I called like 100 times, but it keeps going to voicemail." He answered and Aaron felt himself tense as he dismissed calling her again, his chest tightening as he weaved through the crowd, shoulders hitting against them. Right now, Justin would have to wait for the present urgent matter to be resolved.

Aaron could only hope that Avalon was safe and then he'd be happy.
