Gulping down the reminder of my water bottle I set it on my lap and look down at the floor, waiting for my younger siblings to join us so Xavier can explain, whatever he has to explain.

The door to his office opens and in comes Zach, Parker, Ashton and Hunter.

"Can you please explain?" I ask in a quiet voice and he nods slowly. I feel Aiden's eyes on me the whole time, but I don't look at him, because once I look I know I won't be able to look away.

"We're in the mafia."

"What?" Zach's head snaps up, clearly shocked with Xavier's confession.

He nods. "We're in the mafia. We were all born into the families and our fathers passed the mafia's over as soon as we turned eighteen. Aiden and I have an alliance together. It puts both of our mafia's on top of the list and makes us two of the five families, basically the bosses of all bosses."

I look down on my lap, processing everything he just said.

"So what do you do?" I almost whisper.

"We buy, sell and make deals." Tristan says. "Oh and we investigate small companies in exchange of protection and money." He adds quickly.

"Buy and sell, what?" Ashton asks.

"Guns, drugs, illegal stuff." Aiden speaks. My head shots up and I look into his green eyes that hold so much guilt and regret, it pains me.

"Oh."

A long moment of silence passes, none of us talking before I decide to speak up.

"And they were here because?" I ask, not taking my eyes off his.

"They wanted an alliance. They were a small mafia, they have created problems in the past." He explains.

"They had it coming." Hunter mumbles.

"But you didn't have to kill them!" I almost shout. How can they be so inconsiderate. The men they killed hours ago could have families and they just killed them like that.

"I'm not expecting you to understand. But we did it to protect you." Xavier explains sternly.

A long moment of silence passes before I speak again.

"Are we in danger?" Stupid question Avery! Of course we're in danger! I shake my head at my stupidity. If we weren't in danger we wouldn't be here right now, the guards that are supposed to guard the house wouldn't come in and take care of the dead bodies, they wouldn't clean all the blood that fell on the floor in our living room.

"No. Not now but if there is any danger we'll have it under control." Aiden explains this time and his voice makes the words leaving his mouth sound reassuring.

"Are you sure?" My voice almost cracks.

"Yes."

"Avery, we won't let anything happen to you guys, you're safe." Xavier promises and I shake my head.

"What about you? What if something happens to you?" I ask looking him in the eyes. "Nothing will happen to us, not me, not Aiden, not Tristan and not Hunter. We're all safe, we know what we're doing, we chose to do this."

"You said dad passed it down to you." Ashton remarks and Tristan let's out a chuckle.

"Can't you just stop?" I ask, reffering to all of them. I know it's selfish of me to ask something like that. I mean wouldn't it be logical that they would stop if they wanted or could?

"Avery..." Hunter sighs and I shake my head keeping my eyes on my lap. I hear footsteps and within seconds I see two hands resting on my knees. The right one being covered in ink while the other is bare skin. Xavier.

I look up at my brother and he shakes his head."The mafia has a silence code, omerta, it means that you either keep quiet about it, or die. You can't just leave the mafia, Aves. It's not that simple. If you leave people will literally follow you for the rest of your life. That's one reason I don't want you getting involved with this. None of you." He pauses and looks at the rest of our brothers."I told Hunter and Tristan the same, but it was their choice."

"Did mom die because of this? The mafia?" Zach asks quietly. Honestly, that thought didn't even cross my mind.

"Yes."

"How?"

"I can't explain. It's complicated." Xavier says.

Bullcrap.

I nod and get up from the couch. It's three a.m and I have school tomorrow, so I better get to sleep, besides this is all too much.

"Where are you going, Aves?" Hunter asks and I turn to look at him. "My room. Goodnight."

Getting under my warm covers, I pull them up to my chin and turn to my side, so I'm facing the big window, and let sleep consume me.

.....

After last night's events, I didnt really know what to think about or how to handle the situation. Too much happened last night, the men died in our living room, my brothers told us that our family is involved with the mafia and of course Aiden, I kissed Aiden last night, again, which reminds me that I really have to talk to Summer and the man himself. I don't know if I should tell her about the mafia, most importantly I don't know how to tell her, so I'll just leave that for the boys, what I know I have to tell her is everything that happened with Aiden. Or she'll probably have my head.

I have to talk with Aiden too, he said that we have to talk, but I don't know when most importantly how. I don't want my brothers finding out, especially now that I know what they do for a living

Maybe getting emotionally involved with Aiden isn't the best option.

But I have to tell my bestfriend nonetheless. I know she'll tell me the right thing to do.

Should I just blurt it out or-my thoughts are interrupted by my car door slamming shut.

"Morning!" Summer's voice makes my heart beat faster and I give her a nervous smile. "Morning." I mutter and she buckles up before I start the car.

How do I tell her about Aiden?

"Are you okay?" She asks and I glance over at her for a second before nodding my head and looking back at the road.

"Cut the bull, Avery. What is going on?"

Many things...so many things. I wish I could say but instead I take a deap breath and park my car before turning to look at her.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath again and look at her curious yet concerned expression.

"Aiden and I kissed." The first option it is.

Her eyes go wide and she claps her hand over her mouth.

"Aidvery is real!" She shouts and I look at her confused. "What the hell is Aidvrry?"

"Aiden and Avery", she says in a 'duh tone and I roll my eyes.

"Anyway, tell me everything! You have five minutes before we got to go to class so better start spilling the tea now."

"Okay, so when Ethan came over he got kind of jealous and then he kissed me and I started shouting at him for kissing me and then he confessed his feelings for me and we made out but unfortunately my phone rang and I had to get back inside to Ethan and he said we needed to talk about it and that's it." I explain to her and grab the door handle to get out but she stops me.

"I want detai-" she stops talking and her eyes go wide as a look of realisation crosses her face. "That's the reason why Aiden called me this morning asking about our schedule!" She nearly shouts and my eyes go wide. "He what!?" I ask, meaning to sound shocked-which I am-but I sound excited as I voice my thoughts aloud.

"Yes! Oh my god Aves! He'll probably talk to you today!" She shouts and her phone pings, she looks down and rolls her eyes.

"Look, I got to get to class, Asher's wondering where I am but I'll see you at lunch. Oh and then I'm coming over to your house, Xavier said he would help me with math." She says and before I can respond she's out of my car and running across the parking lot towards the school.

I let out a huff and get out myself making my way to the building.

The first three periods were boring as hell, the teachers went on and on about some things I didn't pay attention to since my mind was too bothered thinking about Aiden and when we would talk.

The bell finally rings and I grab my books before heading to my locker and sprinting to the cafeteria to meet up with Summer.

I walk in through the blue double doors and look around the cafeteria. I see Zach sitting on his regular table with a cheerleader from junior year on his lap and roll my eyes. That boy has different girls every week.

My phone pings as I still remain standing by the entrance and I look down on the screen, seeing that I've got a message from Summer, saying she got home because of a headache but will come over to my place later.

How did she get home if I was her ride here?

"Hey, Aves?" Asher hesitant voice makes me look up from my phone. "Yeah?" I ask with a cold expression and I can see Zach coming over towards us from the corner of my eye and seconds later I feel an arm getting thrown over my shoulder. "Got a problem here?" My not so little brother asks my bestfriends boyfriend in a threatening calm voice.

"No, I was just wondering if Aves have seen Summer, she told me she would meet me at lunch." Asher explains, giving Zach a quick glare. "She had a headache and went home." I tell him and turn around, with Zach by my side.

"She really went home?" He asks once we're away from Asher and I nod. "Come sit with us then." He says and I nod again a smile playing on my lips. It feels as if he's the older one sometimes.

I take a seat next to Zach and the blonde cheerleader he had on his lap earlier glares daggers into the side of my head as I grab the fries from his tray and start eating.

I'm his sister for fucks shake! What's her and most of the girls problem?

"Hi, I'm Khloe, Zach's girlfriend." She says and I turn to look at her. She looks very pissed and I take it as she's not really find of me, which makes me smirk.

"I'm, Avery, his sister, nice to meet you." Her pissed off expression vanishes completely and she looks at me with wide eyes as Zach and some of his friends chuckle. "Oh, I um-" My phone ringing cuts her off. I answer it without looking at the caller ID and put it up to my ear.

"Hey, princess. Can you get to the parking lot?" Aiden's voice asks from the other line and my eyes go wide along with the smile on my lips.

Zach gives me a confused look and I just shake my head at him, to which he just shrugs at and gets back to his previous conversation.

"Uh um are y-you here?" I ask hoping that Zach isn't paying attention.

"Yeah, can you come out now?" He asks softly letting out a small chuckle and I nod, before smaking my forehead as I realise that he can't see me. "Yeah, I'll be out give me a minute." I say into the phone. "Wait, bring your bag with you." And with that he hangs up the phone and I stand up, making the chair I was sitting in slide across the floor and make a screeching sound.

"Where are you going?" Zach asks.

"Um, Ethan, my project partner wants to meet up and make the project because we have to get it done. You know the guy that came over? Yeah that guy, Ethan, I think you met him at the house if you didn't it's alright hell probably be over soon. He such a nice guy-" I ramble on and he cuts me off.

I need to start lying better.

"Yeah, okay no need to explain. It was just a question." He murmurs and I roll my eyes and get out of the cafeteria.

I open the door and walk out to the parking lot, immediately seeing Aiden's black lamborghini. It's kinda hard to miss a car like this in a school.

I can't help the smile on my face as I walk up to the car and open the passenger door before I sit inside and look at him.

He looks up from his phone and a smile immediately takes over his face. I love his smile. It makes the butterflies in my stomach go wild.

"He-" I don't get to finish my greeting. Aiden has already reached over the center console and captured my lips.

"Hi." He smiles once we pull away and I feel my cheeks heat up.

"H-hey."
