Annabelle's POV:

The car ride home was quiet and awkward. I hadn't spoken to Dad in 2 weeks and during that conversation we had argued over Mum - again. She had been pretty non existent in my life since i was 10 and being 17 now I felt I had matured. I knew what I wanted now in life and it didn't involve her but Dad was always trying to get me to 'come around' and go visit her but I was adamant about it.

I woke up as I felt the car stop and saw the same familiar house. I had been at summer camp with my best friend Tara for the most part of the holidays and now going back to education and newly sixth form, i could feel the exhaustion already. I got out the car and walked around to the back of the car to find Dad waiting by the boot for me. "Bells, I know how it ended last time but we need to talk about mum", he sounded sincere whilst opening the boot. My full name is Annabelle Maria Walters but most of my friends call me Bells. I nodded at him, acknowledging what he had said, then without a further word i took my bags and proceeded into the house.

The house was almost as I'd left it: spacious and homely and now a little bit untidy. I continued to carry my bags up the stairs. Turning my back to the stairs I began using my small, wry arms to drag my large suitcase up as best I could. I have long wavy brown hair that i have to put in a plait to get out of my face. By the 9th stair I was huffing out of my mind and took a mental note that I needed to start visiting the gym more often. "Is that Annie?", I hear call from behind me sarcastically. I rest the suitcase on the closest stair and looked to the floor avoiding eye contact.

There was only one human being on Earth that called me by that name - my brother Daniel. Daniel has short curly brown hair and dark brown eyes with a hint of green in them. I turned and gave him the most sarcastic look I could before turning to carry on pulling my suitcase up the stairs. "Let me help you", he said with a grin on his face; I looked at him in confusion.

"Who are you and what have you done with Danny?", I question. He lets out a little chuckle before responding quickly with pride. "I've changed my ways little sis", I rolled my eyes and followed him up the stairs to my room. He placed it on my bed and then with one fluid movement put me in a head lock and begun rubbing it with a closed fist. I struggled as best I could out of his grip and when I was released I said with an annoyed tone, "there he is" and with a loud chuckle he left the room.

I walked over to my mirror and surveyed the carnage of what was left of my plaited hair. I pulled the hair tie out and began to brush it and as I did I heard foot steps from behind the door. I quickly tied my hair up in a messy bun and grabbed a large pillow from my bed. I had no doubt that Danny was coming back for round 2 but I was going to be ready for him this time. I stood behind the door and as it opened I spun on my heels connecting my pillow right bang in the face of not Danny but his best friend - Carter. Carter had jet black cropped hair and eyes a mix of blue and green that most girls got lost in and if it wasn't that they were drooling over, then it was his gentlemanly demeanour.

I watched in horror as Carter balanced himself with one leg and let out a low laugh. I had never found him attractive before but his laugh gave him cute dimples on his cheeks and he had the perfect and most white teeth I had ever seen. I know that he was a hit with the girls but as I said before, I had never really been attracted to him before as I had grown up with him and I couldn't and will say wouldn't fall head over heels like the other girls...

After all, he was my brother's best friend.
