"You can't do that, Jax." I shake my head. "Stop trying to break up with her for me. I won't let you put me in that position."

"I'm not putting you in any position." He stops and looks away. "This is something I want to do. I'm not happy with Rebecca."

"You seem pretty happy to me."

"That's all an act!" He raises his voice. "I can't act any other way without Hunter or even her getting suspicious."

Little did he know Rebecca didn't care about him and Hunter was too caught up in his own romance to notice anything.

"We have to stop." I begin. "Whatever this is," I point between us. "It's over, Jax. I'm not going to keep living this...this lie. We're not only lying to everyone around us but to ourselves."

"Don't say that." He shakes his head.

"You know it's true. You're never going to change. Let's say you and I end up together, then what? You'll get bored of me and move onto the next."

He runs a hand through his hair, frustrated at my words.

I looked away, feeling my eyes fill up with tears. I wouldn't cry over him. It was pathetic.

I looked out into the darkness, trying to find a single star in the sky but none could be seen. Goosebumps filled my body from the cold breeze as we finally reached the very top.

Everything was glowing from every direction  below us. If Jax and I were in a good place we could have been having an amazing time right now.

Instead, I find myself breaking up with a guy I never even got the chance to call mine.

"You're wrong." He finally speaks. "It's impossible to ever get bored of you. I've known you basically all my life and I still can't get enough of you. I want you, Emma."

I wanted to say I wanted him too, but instead, I found myself telling him I didn't want him. I found myself pushing him away and letting him know we would never work.

"I'm not taking no for an answer." He stands his ground. Moving closer to me, he places his hand on my knee. I tried ignoring how my heart skipped a beat but it was no use. I was lying to the both of us.

"I'm going to prove you wrong. I don't care how long it takes, I'll show you how much you mean to me."

"Jax," I sigh.

"No, Emma. You have to believe me. I don't want to be with Rebecca."

"I do believe you." I let out. "It hurt seeing you with her."

"I know and I'm sorry." He leans forward, caressing my cheek. "I remember how much it hurt always seeing you with Alex. I always wished it was me."

"I want to be with you." I randomly let out.

"Then be with me."

"It's harder than it seems." I say.

We were reaching the bottom and we still had so much to talk about.

"You're making it hard. It's not supposed to be this difficult." He sighs.

"Nothing about love is easy."

"Love?" He smirks.

"You know what I mean."

"Stay up tonight. I'll come around midnight to your house." Jax says.

I nod my head and lean back as we begin to approach the bottom. I couldn't wrap my head around what just happened.

I felt a glimpse of happiness and excitement as we got off the ride. After tonight Jax and I could have a chance. There wouldn't be anything in our way anymore and although Hunter couldn't know, we'd make sure to be discreet.

"How was it?" Marissa whispered in my ear as we all gather around once everyone was off the ferris wheel.

"It was okay." I hide a smile. "Better than expected."

"I'm going to walk with the guys to their car." Hunter speaks. "I'll meet you at Jax's car." He begins to walk with his friends towards the direction of the exit as Rebecca, Jax, Marissa and I all stand around.

"Baby, are you coming over?" Rebecca bats her eyelashes.

He glances over at me and looks back at Rebecca with a soft smile.

"Yeah," He sighs. "There's something we have to talk about anyways."

"I was thinking the same." She responds.

"I'm going to walk Rebecca to her car. I'll meet you guys in a few." Jax says.

"It was nice seeing you, Emma." She walks to me and gives me a side hug. "You too, Marissa."

"Don't be a stranger." Marissa forces a laugh.

They walk away from us, hand in hand, with unspoken words left behind.

As we walked to the parking lot, I caught up Marissa on what's been going on with Jax and I. While she did approve, she wasn't fond of Jax leading me on while he was still with Rebecca.

"Do you think he's going to break the news tonight like he said?" She asked, leaning against Jax's car.

I shrug. "I don't know. Maybe. He seemed like he really wanted to be with me but I can't ignore the way he was when he was with her."

"Like he was happy with her." Marissa says.

She took the words right out of my mouth. He did seem happy with her.

"You'll make him happier." She assures.

"Will I?"

"Yes." She nods. "He likes you, Em. People do stupid shit when they want something they can't have."

"I guess you're right." I agree.

I look over to see Jax and Hunter walking towards the car. There were still people wandering around the park. Rides were just starting to close and people were rushing to their cars to beat traffic.

Jax unlocks the car and we all file in, Hunter in the front seat and Marissa and I in the back.

Besides a couple words here and there from Jax and Hunter, no one uttered a word. There seemed to be tension in the car and it felt uncomfortably unsettling.

"Thanks for the ride." Marissa said when we reached her house. She climbed out of the car and rushed inside.

We drove down to my house in silence with the radio on low. I couldn't tell if the tension was between Jax and I or Hunter and Jax, but it was something.

"I'll see you guys tomorrow." Jax says, pulling over on the side of our house.

"You wanna come in for a while?." Hunter suggests.

"Nah, I gotta go talk to Rebecca." Jax says. "I'm breaking up with her."

I could feel Jax's stare through the review mirror.

"No kidding?" I see Hunter's body tense up.

"Yeah, I'll text you how it goes."

"Goodnight, Jax." I say, not wanting to eavesdrop on their conversation anymore.

"Night."

I leave them in the car to finish their conversation and head up the porch, unlocking the front door. I go in, leaving the door unlocked for Hunter.

"Dad?" I call out. The house was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. "Dad?" I say a little louder.

"In my office!" I hear him shout from upstairs.

"We're home! Do you want me to make you tea!?" I yell from the stairs.

"It's okay, thank you!"

I walk down the hall and into my room, turning on the light and closing my door. With a sigh of relief, I place my bag down and immediately change into my pajamas.

I turned the light off and let the TV play in the background as I laid in bed on my phone. I had a couple hours to kill before Jax said he would come.

I tried my best to not drift off to sleep but I suddenly felt my eyes heavy and my body ease down.

I didn't know how long I had fallen asleep for but I woke up to the sound of my phone being blown up with messages.

Squinting, I grab the control to the TV off my bed side table and shut the TV off. I let out a groan as the brightness from my phone burned my eyes. Jax's name popped up all over my screen.

Sitting up, worry filled my body as I forgot I was supposed to stay awake. It was one in the morning and Jax had still been texting me.

Jax: Come outside.
Jax: We have to talk.
Jax: Is Hunter awake????
Jax: What the fuck, Emma. I need you.
Jax: Did you fall asleep?

The last text I saw pop up on my screen nearly broke my heart. Too many people around Jax have let him down and I'm on that list now.

Jax: Did you know about Hunter and Rebecca??
