Hunter's face completely dropped, hands in his pockets now, not daring to look me in the eye. It was something he did when he knew he got caught. He was never expecting for me to know about him and Rebecca.

He didn't say anything, not knowing the right words to say. He knew he was screwed. He got caught. Which means that day I did hear correctly and he was in fact involved with Jax's girlfriend.

Whether Jax really liked her or wash using her they strictly had a no going for each other's girls policy.

"You're not going to say anything?" I ask, getting anxious.

Jax was now in the car waiting for us to finish our conversation. I knew he would ask Hunter what we talked about and when he wouldn't tell him, he'd come to me. I'll have to lie to him. Again.

It seemed being around Jax meant having to constantly lie. It wasn't necessarily for him but it involved him. I didn't like being in the middle of everything.

"What is there left to say?" He shrugs.

"Maybe explain why you're sleeping with Rebecca?" I suggest.

"That's none of your business." He fires back.

"You made it my business when you couldn't have your booty call quiet down over the phone." I snap.

"So what are you waiting for? Run, go tell Jax." He says.

I shake my head. "I'm not telling Jax."

He sighs. I could almost see the relief washing over him.

"Yet," He finally looks up from the ground. "Let Jax and I live our lives. Whether it means being alone in a room without you checking in constantly or letting us be friends."

"I already told you no."

"Fine, then Jax finds out." I threaten.

It ached my heart knowing I had to make my brother choose, but he left me with no choice.

"You're giving me an ultimatum." He huffs.

"You left me no choice." I cross my arms.

"I'm your brother." He shakes his head. "You can't do this."

"You can't choose who I'm friends with but yet you still do. So yeah, I'm your sister but I guess that doesn't really count for much."

"Fine," He gives in. "Do whatever you want, I tried protecting you. I warned you. Do whatever the fuck you want. See if I care." Hunter, walks away from me and gets into Jax's car.

I stood there, alone watching as people walked by. I wondered if there was any truth behind what Hunter had said. I knew if there was a possibility in the future that Jax and I got together he wouldn't treat me like the rest of the girls he's with.

Right?

I felt a connection with him but I had to ignore it all. As long as he remained with Rebecca there was no Jax and I. Today's kiss was now in the past and something I'd have to make sure never happened again.

Walking back to the car, I got in the back seat and smiled to myself to see Hunter and Jax talking.

"All good?" I asked.

Jax smiled at me from the mirror. "Yeah, we're good."

"You coming over?" Jax asks Hunter.

He shakes his head. "Nah, I gotta do something."

Jax chuckles. "That new mystery girl?"

Hunter looks at him, confused not knowing how to answer.

"What, you think you can hide a girl from me? Come on, you're my best friend. I can see whoever it is is messing you up." Jax explains.

"Just some girl." Hunter sighs. "Nothing special."

I was surprised at how they both acted like they didn't just get into a huge argument.

I stayed quiet in the back the entire ride home. I didn't have much to say to either of them. I felt embarrassed towards Jax by kissing him along with involving him with the whole pregnancy situation.

"Thanks for the ride." I say to Jax, getting out of the car once we reach my house. I leave him and Jax to talk in the car while I unlock my front door and step inside.

Going into the kitchen, I'm surprised to see my dad home, making dinner.

"Hey, kiddo." He says, giving me a kiss on the forehead.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" I ask, putting my bag on the stool.

"I live here." He jokes.

"I know," I chuckle. "You're not at work though. Is something wrong?"

"No, I called out of work early. I wanted to spend more time at home." He says, stirring the pot of food.

"Okay..." I trail off. "What about work though?"

"I told you, work is just work. I was doing some thinking and my family is more important." He says.

"Right." I say.

I didn't know what the right thing was to say. He was never home and I wasn't expecting him to be home any time soon. He basically lived at the station. Constantly putting his life at risk was what he did best. Parenting wasn't apart of his job anymore.

I didn't blame him for constantly being wrapped up in work. It was his escape. He needed a distraction for when mom died but it soon became what he wanted more than needed. I didn't love him any less but it doesn't mean I wasn't hurting too.

He chose to deal with the pain alone.

I noticed how he was still in his uniform, badge still on, radio on. Even at home he was still at work. He brought his escape into our home.

Being here or not, he wasn't really here.

"Are you sure work isn't going to need you?" I wonder.

"Are you trying to get rid of me or something?" He stops cooking, turning off the stove, and turns to me.

"It's not that." I shake my head, crossing my arms. "It's just weird seeing you here. Why all of a sudden?"

He sighs, scratching the back of his head and leans against the counter.

"Where's Hunter?" He ignores my question.

"Outside with Jax. Why?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Let's just wait until he comes in. We'll have a family dinner and we can all catch up."

"Catch up?" I scoff. "You're never here dad. You shouldn't have to catch up with your kids. Your job was to be a father. You chose your job over us long ago. I've accepted that, so please don't let me stop you from going back to work."

I felt my heart sink as soon as I snapped but deep down I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. I didn't know how much anger I had in my heart until now. I guess there was a lot of things I had been keeping in.

I couldn't accept him coming home and wanting a family dinner. We stopped being a family when he isolated himself from his kids. Hunter and partly Jax were the only ones raising me once mom died.

"Emma," His voice cracks.

"What's going on?" Hunter appears behind me. I turn around and watch as he looks between dad and I.

"Nothing." I say. "I'm going out, don't wait up."

Grabbing my bag off the stool, I exit the kitchen and leave the house, slamming the door behind me.

I had no clue when I was going but I needed to clear my head. I needed a distraction. Anything to get me from thinking about my mom or even my dad.

Pulling out my phone I searched my contact list and come across a name I hadn't heard of in a while. I wasn't expecting him to answer but when I heard his voice on the other line I smiled to myself.

"Hey, gorgeous." His accent sent chills down my back.

"Hey, Charlie."
