The night carried on with Hunter talking to some girl he met and Marissa with Nick attached to her hip. There was no sight of Jax since he stormed off while I was with Charlie.

Charlie went off to talk to Kevin's dad and as I stood alone my mind wandered off to Jax.

He's always been protective of me especially when it came to guys but tonight was different. First with what happened at his house and then my room, now this.

He's never once showed me any type of attention like that let alone affection. I didn't know if to feel happy he was showing signs he was interested or scared because of what it meant.

I looked around the room, noticing Hunter was distracted and walked over to the back door. I needed fresh air.

Stepping outside, I let the warm breeze hit my face. The warm September weather was soon to be gone and filled by cold air.

There was a pool taking up the whole backyard and a bar to the side with stools all around. That wasn't the first thing I noticed though.

"Jax?" I call out.

He turns his head to the side, not bothering to look all the way. He was sitting at the bar, a bottle next to him.

"What are you doing?" I walk over, sitting in the empty spot next to him.

"That seats taken." He finally says.

I sigh, nonetheless I get up and walk over to the other side. Before I could sit down he places his hand over the chair.

"This seats taken too."

I groan, ignoring what he said and instead of sitting down, I lean my back against the stool and look over at him.

His face was illuminated by the moon and I could see how amazing he looked. His hair was slid back but he had a couple of strands hanging loosely over his face. His suit was all ruffled up and his tie was no longer on but around his shoulders.

If anyone saw him they'd think he was crazy, but I saw him differently. I saw hurt.

"Are you okay?" I say, breaking the silence.

"Nah," He shakes his head. "But I will be."

He grabs the bottle and takes a long swing from it before putting it back down and letting out a cough.

"This isn't going to fix whatever is going on, Jax." I say.

"You're right," He pauses. "But right now it's helping so if you're here to lecture me I suggest you leave."

There's the Jax I know.

I take the bottle from him but just as he tries to pull it away from me I press it against my lips and take a sip of it.

"Fuck." I say, my voice coming out raspy. It was stronger than I thought but it seemed like a good idea at the moment.

"You're brother's going to kill me." He chuckles.

"I'm not your responsibility." I take another sip, ignoring the burning sensation in my throat.

"I am right now." He nods. "You should get back inside."

"When are you going to get the point that you can't tell me what to do?"

He laughs, shaking his head and taking the bottle from my hands. My heart danced around in my chest as the sound of his laugh echoed through my ears.

We stayed in silence for what seemed to be forever before he turns to me and smiles.

"W-What." My voice comes out shaky.

"You look beautiful." He whispers.

I didn't know if I heard right. He said it so low I could have imagined it. There was no way Jax had just called me beautiful.

"You look beautiful." He repeats, louder this time.

I swallow. "Jax...you're drunk."

"Drunk and you still look beautiful." He grins.

"You don't know what you're saying." I shake my head. I avoid making eye contact with him and cross my arms across my chest.

"I do know what I'm saying. I said you look beau-"

"Stop." I cut him off.

Instead of saying anything he grabs my arm, unlocking them from my chest and trails his hand down it. My legs were spaghetti at this point.

An electrifying chill tingles my body as Jax puts his hand on mine, interlocking our fingers.

"Jax," I let out. I couldn't trust myself to speak at this moment. I was too afraid of saying the wrong thing and ruining this moment.

"Don't say anything." He says, as if reading my mind.

He locks eyes with mine and stands up from the stool, hand still holding mine. He sways before finally getting a hold of his balance.

He leans down, bringing his head down to touch mine. Without thought I bring my hand up to touch his face and cup his cheek.

He leans closer to me and within seconds our lips were brushing each other. Neither of us made a move, only feeling the touch of our lips on one another.

His lips were softer than I imagined. The lips I had countless dreams of kissing were finally right within reach and yet we knew we couldn't.

He rubs his top lip on my bottom, almost as if to tease me. Just as I was about to make a move there's a cough from behind us.

Without hesitating, we pull away from each other and turn around. Too nervous to look up, I look at the ground and avoid making eye contact.

I already knew who it was.

  "What the fuck."
