Shane's POV

I woke up with my beautiful mate in my arms. Her eyes were still a bit red and puffy from last night and my heart ached. No one should have to go through that and the abuse, loss of their family, and constantly being alone. I kissed the crown of her head causing her to softly purr and cuddle closer to me.

I smiled before I slowly started moving out of the bed, but Ariel's grip tightened on me. "No please don't leave." She whispered, her eyes still closed.

"It's okay Ariel I'm just-"

"I'm s-sorry," she said as tears started to fall down her cheeks. "It won't happen again. Just please don't reject me!"

"Ariel." I said as I gently started shaking her, but she didn't wake up.

"Shane please no!" She whispered, her tears forming waterfalls down her face.

"ARIEL!" I yelled and she shot up. At first her eyes darted everywhere as if she weren't familiar with her surroundings until her eyes landed on me.

"Oh my gosh Shane," she breathed out as she cupped my face with both hands as if she thought I was about to disappear.

I wrapped my hands around her waist and pulled her in. "What happened, Ariel?" I softly asked.

"I-I had a dream that you r-rejected-"

I growled. "I'll never reject you." I said in a low voice as I held her tighter. "I love you too much to reject you."

"I love you too, Shane," she whispered with a small smile as I used my thumb and wiped the tears from her eyes.

"Uh, Shane?" she said as I wiped her last tear.

"Yes, Beautiful?" I asked as I looked into her mesmerizing green eyes.

"Could you, uh, make me some of those killer omelets, maybe?" she asked with an adorable grin.

I smiled even more. "Anything for you," I said before kissing her forehead then picking her up bridal style and taking her down to the kitchen.

Ariel's POV

I woke up in our room, but only Shane wasn't laying next to me in bed, instead, he was staring out the window.

"Good morning Sh-"

"Ariel," he cut me off. "I...I can't do this." He said as he turned toward me.

"What do you-"

"You killed those innocent people. Who knows if those blackouts come back again? I can't have a mate, let alone a Luna that could black out and kill anyone at any moment!"

I felt tears jump to my eyes as I shook my head. "Shane I'm sorry it won't happen again I promise! I-"

"NO!" He roared, obviously mad causing a small whimper to come from my lips. "I..." He said, his features softening a bit. "It's...it's already hard enough doing this. Please don't make it any harder than it needs to be."

"Shane, p-please," I said as tears rolled down my cheeks. "You don't mean that. S-Say you love me. Please."

He looked at me with pain and regret in his eyes. "I-"

"SAY YOU LOVE ME AGAIN!" I cried as panic rose in my chest.

He took a shaky deep breath before saying "I,"

"Shane please," I said as more tears ran off my face and splashed onto the bed sheets.

"Shane Ansel Chase, reject you Ariel Ann Carter as my-"

"SHANE NO!" I screamed.

"ARIEL!"

I shot up, sweat beading my forehead. I looked around the room. It was familiar, but my brain couldn't...

Then my eyes landed on Shane.

"Oh my gosh Shane." I breathed out as I cupped his face with both of my hands, cherishing every second his skin was touching mine in case it was the last.

"What happened, Ariel?" He softly asked as he snaked his arms around my waist and pulled me closer, sending sparks through my body.

I felt a lump form in my throat. "I-I had a dream that you r-rejected-"

"I'll never reject you," he growled as he pulled me in tighter. "I love you too much to reject you."

"I love you too, Shane," I whispered with a small smile as he wiped the tears that I didn't know that I had.

"Uh, Shane?" I said as he wiped another tear away.

"Yes, Beautiful?" he asked, looking into my eyes.

"Could you, uh, make me some of those killer omelets, maybe?" I asked with a grin.

He smiled. "Anything for you." Before he kissed me on the forehead, picked me up bridal style, and walked me downstairs.

He gently set me down on the counter after giving me another kiss on the forehead, then he got ready.

Before I knew it, the sweet smell of eggs filled the air along with a side of bacon, causing my stomach to loudly growl. My eyes grew wide and I blushed furiously as Shane turned and looked at my with that cute little smirk of his.

"Breakfast will be ready shortly." He smiled before turning back to his work.

"Oh my God Shane!" I hummed as I took another bite of one my many omelets.

"Glad you like them," he smiled.

"Love them."

"Oh my God Shane!" Jessica squealed as she and Aiden walked in together. "Why didn't you tell us that you were making omelets?!"

"Because it was a special breakfast for my mate." He growled through clenched teeth.

"Oh," Jess said as she grabbed Aiden hand and started backing away. "Sorry I-"

"No it's fine," I said with a smile. "Here," I said as I grabbed four omelets and gave two to the both of them. (Still leaving like eight for me. Call me what you want, but I'm just hungry and his omelets are just like heaven on earth)

"Are you sure you wanna do this?" Aiden asked. "I mean, I know how good Shane's omelets are, so you don't have to-"

"It's fine," I smiled.

"Thank you," they said at the same time.

We all ate together. Everyone was talking, but I was too busy thinking about whether or not to tell them about it. It's okay, you don't have to tell. Shane said through the mind-link, sensing my uneasiness.

I smiled at him before turning back to my food.

"Hey!" Zac yelled as he ran into my lap with Greg stumbling after him, still in a sleepy daze.

"Hey guys!" I smiled as Greg ran into a wall.

"W-What?" He asked confused as he found his balance again causing me to giggle.

"Greg, uh, you okay bud?" Shane asked. "You seem a little, uh, out of it." He said, carefully choosing his words.

"Yeah." He said as he took a seat at the table. "I'm fine."

"Are those for us?!" Zac asked motioning toward the four omelets on my plate.

"Sure," I said with a smile as I gave two to Zac and two to Greg. "Enjoy. Your brother made them and they're to die for." I said, smiling at Shane.

"Well, I don't mean to brag or anything, but I am amazing at cooking." He said flipping his imaginary hair, causing me to laugh.

"But you can't bake like me," I said flipping my hair that was actually there.

"That cake is pretty good." Shane shrugged. "But not as good as my omelets."

"Guys," Aiden said with a small smile. "You don't want to start that argument. It could end up damaging your relationship."

"Yeah," Jess agreed. "Plus, no offense Shane but everyone knows that Ari's cake is better than your omelets by a land slid." Jessica shrugged.

"Is not!" He said as he slammed his palms on the table. "I declare a cook-off!"

"I would," I said with a shrug. "But I love you too much to see your sad face when you lose," I said as I turned and walked off, earning a chorus of "Oh's" and "You just got burned." Even Greg and Zac joined in.

I walked up to our room, closed the door, and crashed on the bed. All of a sudden, a wave of drowsiness took over and all I wanted to do was curl into the soft warm sheets and sleep for eternity.

My eyes slowly closed as I slowly started drifting off to sleep. Suddenly, the door opened and my eyes snapped open and my muscles tensed up, but I immediately relaxed as Shane's scent rushed into my nose.

"You didn't think you could say that and get away like that did you?" He whispered in a low voice, causing shivers to run up and down my spine.

"I was hoping so," I said with a smile.

"Well, you shouldn't have gotten your hopes up so high, babe." He whispered before he started kissing me softly. I automatically wrapped my arms around his neck as he pulled me closer. He slowly moved down toward my mark and started placing kisses on it, causing me to melt into a pile of mush. I tangled my fingers in his soft locks, tugging on them every so often, earning chuckles from Shane.

"I want you to spend the day with me." he whispered into the sensitive flesh of my neck, sending tingles through my body before he rested his forehead on mine.

I nodded with a smile. "It would be an honor,  Alpha."

He playfully growled, causing me to smile. I love the effect I have on him.

***

I was currently sitting in the same chair Shane's office I'd been sitting in all day helping him with paperwork.

It was dark outside and for some reason, my wolf was in a frenzy. She wanted to get out and now, she was trying to push past my barrier, causing a bit of pressure to build up behind my eyes which is weird because she'd never done this before.

"Could you pass me the Silver Lined Moon Pack's file, please?" Shane asked as he signed another paper.

I looked at all the files that I had piled in front of me before I came to it. "Here you go." I said as I passed the thick file to him.

"Thank you." He said as he took it.

"Is this what you do every day?" I questioned as I sat back in my chair. Usually I helped him with little things, but all this? How did he do it?

"Life of the party," He said flatly as he ran his hand through his hair.

"Then how about we make it fun," I said with a playful smile as I walked over to him and sat on his lap.

"Ariel I...." Shane said, obviously having the same troubles with his wolf as I was having with mine. Suddenly, he pulled me into his chest and deeply inhaled where my mark was. "S-Shane," I choked out. "I-I c-can't breath."

He quickly let go of me and checked me for injuries. "I'm so sorry, Ariel. My wolf was pushing forward and I needed your scent to calm him down.  Are you okay?"

"Yeah," I said, giving him a reassuring smile. "I'm just f-"

"SHANE!" Aiden yelled as the door burst open.

"WHAT?!" Shane snapped in his Alpha tone, causing Aiden to whimper and cower away. Shane took a deep breath, trying to control his wolf. "Sorry Aiden. My wolf's going crazy. I don't know what's wrong."

"That's what I came to tell you about," he said. "It's the moon," he explained. "It's the Blood Moon."

All the color drained from Shane's face as he stared at Aiden. "You've gotta be screwing with me," he said shaking his head in disbelief. "Please tell me that you're just screwing with me."

When Aiden didn't respond, Shane ran to the window and sure enough, there was a full moon that was blood red, sending chills down my spine. "Dang it!" He growled as he hit his desk, causing a huge crack to form down the middle of it and collapse.

Great more broken desks.

"I already sent a mind-link to all of the pack members. They're preparing for the run and I've already told them what to do to handle their wolves."

"Okay, that's good," Shane said with a nod, the both of them ignoring the confused look I was giving them.

"Um, can someone tell me what the heck is going on and why the moon is freaking red?" I asked annoyed.

"Wait," Aiden said shaking his head. "Shane hasn't told you about the blood moon?" I shook my head in response causing an amused grin to spread on his face. "Well this should be an interesting conversation."

I turned to Shane and I gave him the look that said explain.

"Well, it's when the moon turns blood red and it basically makes our wolves freak out. It also forces us into a slow painful shift and our wolves take full control for the night and the Alpha and Luna have to led a run deep into the woods where the wolves can be free, but still far enough from the humans."

"What?!"

"I know. It sounds crazy. But it only happens once every thirteen years so and-"

"I've been alive longer than thirteen years so why haven't I gone through this?"

"It's a curse," he said coldly. "Placed on this pack hundreds of years ago by a bitter witch or some crap like that."

"And since I had my ceremony and became the official Luna of this pack-"

"-you officially excepted the burden of the curse." Shane finished.

"Why didn't you tell me about this!" I yelled, anger and confusion coursing through my body.

"I'm sorry, it kinda slipped my mind with everything going on," he said sheepishly, causing me to roll my eyes. I was about to fire back at him when something came to my mind.

"Oh my God, Zac and Greg. Are they-"

"Yeah. They're affected by the curse too." Shane confirmed.

"Then why are we standing here! This is going to be Zac's first shift and he's way too young. This shift can seriously hurt him!" I said before I ran to the door.

"Ariel no!" Shane yelled, but it was too late. I felt my back break and I screamed as I fell down to my knees, causing a bone rattling scream to escape from my lips.

"Ariel!" I heard him yell before another crack rang out followed by his yell then Aiden's.

Oh Goddess. It's starting.
