No matter what, you always will be my angel that saved me from the darkness.

"You better make yourself presentable," Alpha Morgan growled at me after I got up from my beating. Pain laced through my body from the multiple bruises and cuts I'd just received.

I whimpered and nodded. "How good you dress tonight determines how good I beat you after this is over, you got it mutt?"

I nodded again. He knew I wasn't going to respond. I haven't responded for nine years.

I hurried to my room AKA, the musty attic. My home sweet home. I only had a dirty mattress, a very minimal wardrobe, and makeup, only to cover my multiple bruises and cuts when important people came to visit so Morgan can use me as his "trophey"

I quickly changed out of my bloody shirt and ripped jeans and got my black leggings and my white shirt with ruffles at the bottom and my black Converse. That was the fanciest and the cleanest outfit I had. Everything else was torn and covered in blood.

This was the room I've had for the past nine years. After my parents died in the fire, I stopped talking and Alpha Morgan, their Beta at the time, started beating me when I was nine since he said that my parents didn't give him the respect and authority that he deserved. I'm eighteen now.

I also had an older brother, Chris, but he died in the fire. I would've died too if it wasn't for my early shift. I wish at least my brother survived too, so I'd have a friend. I can still remember his happy green eyes and smile. He was my best friend.

I got the shard of mirror that I had and started applying makeup to my cuts and bruises, wincing a bit as the makeup hit my newer bruises. Today Alpha Shane Chase, the Alpha of one of the strongest pack in the world was coming to this pack in search of his mate. This was the last pack he was looking in before he started looking in other countries and he requested all of the girls from the pack.

When I was done, I looked myself up and down in the shard. I did good....for me, but might not be good for Alpha Morgan and result in another beating. I sucked in a breath before I hurried downstairs where the rest of the girls were buzzing about who could be his mate. Tracey, aka the plastic barbie of the pack, glared at me, causing me to roll my eyes as I lined up.

We were lining up by ranks. The front meaning most important and back meaning useless tools, me among them. I took my place in the back row and Tracey stood in the middle. Alpha Morgan walked through the crowd, making sure no one jumped and made themselves look more important than they were."You did good mutt," Alpha Morgan growled in my ear. "But not good enough to not get a beating tonight."

I whimpered and look down at my feet to avoid eye contact. Just then there was a knock on the door and a hush went over the sea of girls. Alpha Morgan straightened up and walked over to the door with fake confidence rolling off him in waves.

When he opened it, the most amazing scent I'd ever smelled rushed into my nose. It smelled like fresh rain and cinnamon and I was addicted to it. Could it....no. NO! It was probably just someone's cologne. I've been used to the must of the attic that basically everything else in the world smells amazing to me.

Then I saw him. Alpha Shane Chase, Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack. He had dark brown hair with deep brown eyes that enchanted me and wouldn't let me go. He had an aura of power that radiated off him in waves that dared anyone to challenge him, causing me to shrink back a bit.

Alpha Morgan and Alpha Shane talked in hushed voices, Morgan shaking his head. Finally, Alpha Morgan bowed his head in submission then glared at me, causing me to raise an eyebrow in confusion.

"Hello girls," Alpha Shane started. His voice sent shivers down my spine and made my heart flutter.

Stop, Ariel. He's not the one. I said to myself, urgently trying to convince myself.

"Hello Alpha," everyone chorused.... Well everyone but me of course, so I just nodded my head in respect. He seemed to notice and gave me a quick glance, causing my heart to flutter.

What's happening to me?

"As you all know," he continued."I'm looking for my mate and yours is the last pack before I look in other countries."

I nodded my head and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tracey push her boobs up, causing me to cringe.

"So, let's get to it."

He looked over everyone, inhaling deeply, trying to pick out a scent. "She's here," he whispered with a smile. He walked through the sea of girls, to the back row where all of the lower class wolves stood, me among them.

He slowly passed each girl, sniffing them, every one of them frowning as he passed, some even let tears escape. He was five girls away from me. A little part of me hopes that I'm his, but most of me was praying to the Moon Goddess that I'm not. I'm not ready for a mate and to be honest, I don't think I want one. I already had Morgan abusing me and I don't need anyone else, let alone an Alpha to hurt me too. I wouldn't be able to handle it.

He stops at Sky, the girl next to me. She smiles and her eyes light up, but then he turns to me, making her cry. "Mine," he growls, causing my heart to stop. Did he just say "Mine" to me?

"What?" Tracey's annoying voice shrieked, causing Shane's attention to snap to her. "Did you just say that tramp is yours? I say that you should reject her and take someone more in your class."

A dangerously low growl escaped from his lips and his eyes turned pitch black with rage as he took long strides toward her and by the look on her face, I could tell she immediately regretted it.

"You will not disrespect my mate like that, pup!" He yelled in his Alpha tone, making everyone, even Alpha Morgan cringe. "Apologize, now!"

"S-Sorry," she whimpered then she ran deeper into crowd, trying to hide.

He let out one more growl before he walked back over to me, his features softening. "What's your name, Beautiful?" he asked in a soft voice that made my knees weak.

"Ariel," Alpha Morgan spoke up. "Ariel Carter."

"Ariel," he whispered, exercising my name as he cupped my face with one hand, causing sparks to run through my body. "The perfect name for the perfect girl," he whispered as he lightly brushed his thumb over my cheek, sending sparks all over my body.

"Wait," he said as he furrowed his eyebrows. "What's this?" I saw my make up on his finger and my heart dropped. He continued brushing his thumb over my cheek until he uncovered one of my many, many bruises. His eyes turned black, I closed my eyes, holding back the tears and waited for the rejection, but it didn't come. Puzzled, I opened my eyes just to see him turn to Morgan and lowly growl. "Morgan, get over here."

Morgan walked toward him with his chest puffed out and his chin up, but I could see the fear swimming in his eyes, no matter how well he tried to hide it. "Everyone else out!" Shane yelled and in less than ten seconds everyone had disappeared leaving just Shane, Morgan, and me. "What happened to her?" Shane growled, anger dripping from every word.

"She's been beaten." Morgan simply said as if it were no big deal, causing anger to rush through my veins, but I remained still.

"By whom?" Shane growled as it became apparent that it was becoming harder and harder to stay in control of his anger.

"Me."

Within a millisecond, Shane had Morgan pressed against the wall with his arm pressing into his throat, ready to kill him at a second's notice. "Why?" He asked in a low, murderous tone.

Morgan forced a chuckle, but his fear was still evident. "Look at her! She's nothing. Her parents wronged me and someone has to pay for what they-"

He was interrupted by Shane's fist coming in contact with his face. Morgan fell to the ground, blood gushing out of his nose. Shane picked him back up and slammed him back into the wall, causing the sickening sound of bones breaking to fill the silence in the room. I wanted to intervene, but I was too scared and I didn't want to face the possibility of one of those punches being directed at me.

"No one says that my mate is nothing," he growled in his ear. "I should kill you right now, but your pack needs you, even if you're an embarrassment to the Alpha title. Now apologize."

"S-Sorry, Ariel," he whimpered.

"Now," Shane said as he dropped Morgan to the ground. "Get out of my sight."

Morgan scrambled to his feet then hurried out of the pack house.

Shane closed his eyes and took a deep breath before he looked at me, his features immediately softening, but I whimpered and cowered away, covering my eyes as I silently cried. I was scared. I was scared of him. Of having a mate. Of the hurt.

"Hey," he softly said as he gently put his finger under my chin and made me look at him. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I just couldn't let him get away with degrading you like that."

I looked at him for a few seconds before I nodded and started wiping the tears away. No one had ever stood up to Morgan before, especially for me.

He lightly grabbed my hand, sending sparks all over, and put it on his cheek then placed his bigger hand on top of mine. He nuzzled into my hand, inhaling my scent, and he immediately relaxed under my touch, causing me to smile at how cute he looked. No matter how much I wanted to deny it, it all felt so...right. His hand on mine. My hand on his cheek. All of it.

"Come on my little mate," he gently said as he helped me stand. "We have a long way to go."

Maybe things won't be too bad.
