Chapter 2: MEETING THE ALPHA

Have you ever played freeze? The game in which you hide and run from the player and when they spot you they shout "freeze".

It felt like somebody from among the crowd had done so. A dancing nobody or a sashaying somebody had yelled this over the noise and my body had complied with the orders.

The next morning we woke up like really late. Anything after dawn meant late. Children of night oh-so-did-not have the liberty to actually ass round and do shit. We worked for a living. At least we were supposed to.

The welcoming party was on a Saturday which makes this a Sunday morning. I had kitchen work to do. Breakfasts were on me on Sunday's.

Mother had made us sandwiches while dad poured me some juice. Am I in trouble?

"Look, I can explain. I didn't mean to-"

"Love, eat food first."

Daddy never calls me that. Hell, we don't even talk that much anymore.

"Aren't you tired Anouk?" Mother asked as she cleared the table. Is she like, mocking me?

I turned major according to the werewolf law almost three years ago!

Shit.

I did make a stupid mistake though.

For once in my life, I had no answers. No comebacks. No backup.

She shook her head. Disappointed.

While applying more cheese on my sandwich my mind went back, recollecting the events of yesterday and my embarrassing encounter with the Alpha. After that incident, I tried to avoid him.

I succeeded. That's what I thought.

I found my parents exchanging secretive glances. The kind that screamed trouble and/or grounding.

"So Anouk," Daddy began, in his diplomatic tone " Care to explain exactly what-"

I just love mobile phones and phone calls that interrupt serious talks. This will give me the time to think of a proper excuse. It has to!

Daddy seemed tense. Sensitive hearing did not pick electromagnetic waves.

"Change in plans. Anouk, go get ready in five," Dad said as he signaled for mom to follow him to the study.

No explanation given. Like always. Somethings never change I guess.

"Where are we going?"

"You'll find out soon."

-

"Daddy, you have got to be kidding me. Alpha's house? Seriously? At least give me an opportunity to explain!"

"Oh, Ann dear, you'll get many."

Well, fuck you, Mother.

There was silence in the room. The silence that makes you crave for the voice of fan's rotating and doors creaking.

"Why are we here?" I ask.

"Knox insisted. After coming to know that your Mother and I will be out of the town for few days he insisted that we personally meet him and talk about your accommodation arrangement."

The fuck.

"Are you guys like, stupid?-"

"ANOUK!"

"Miss Clarke, nice meeting you again. Creating quite the ruckus, aren't you?"

Dad looked at me. Warning about what the consequences might be, clear in his eyes.

"Alpha, Good morning. Or wait, is it noon?"

"Why don't you go straight and take a left? Leads to the garden. Confirm it out for yourself while I talk to your parents."

"Well, I don't think that this is necessary. Look, I can apologize if you want-"

Cutting me once again he said. "I want many things but an apology, especially from you."

Alpha Knox' house was huge by every standard of rational measurement. Damn, I never knew that the edge of the hill has such a beautiful house. Or a manor? Quite the little Lord, isn't he?

Then again, he is or has many things but little. Doesn't suit or justify.

Daddy did not like to show off but I guess Mercado is all about exhibition.

The back door opened revealing the Alpha and my parents. Am I like subconsciously avoiding his first name?

He seemed impatient. Well, for my mom and dad they seemed calm. I looked at them with my curious eyes and tried to suppress the urge to ask questions or throw insults. I seriously wanted to.

Something out of the ordinary happened.

"Ann, dear, we'll miss you," Mother said as she crushed me into an over-affectionate hug. Need to save my poor bones.

"Mother, dear," I began warily not knowing how to continue, "That will happen if you go. Where are you going by the way?"

"Alpha, we trust you to look after our most prized possession in a way just like we do," Dad said

I just asked a question which got fucking ignored.

"She's with me. In good hands and company."

Mr. Husky voice is cryptic. Too cryptic and vague. Difficult to understand and decipher.

Two sloppy kisses on my forehead, that's what I had to endure before I got full access to a premium credit card.

Clarke's are never short of money.

"Now it is only you and me," Mr. Dark Blue eyes said as the aforementioned orbs inspected the tyre marks that my parent's car left.

I was practically living with him having nothing on me except for the clothes I am wearing and the credit card at my disposal.

"Now, time to talk about what happened last night."

Uh-oh.
