Chapter 4 - The Fight

TORI's POV

Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please." He wrapped an arm around my shoulders, drew me close, and announced to the entire school, "This girl here is Victoria Peige. She's my new girlfriend."

My eyes widened, and my mouth dropped open in horror as everyone's eyes zeroed in on me. Whispers erupted and girls turned to give me deadly glares. I was so embarrassed, I could feel my whole face burning.

"What the hell?" That was Nathan. I couldn't look at him. I wanted the ground to open and swallow me whole.

"That's it! No more questions. You, you, and definitely you, out! We'll discuss this outside! Now!" Chloe demanded. She grabbed my hand and pulled me outside, with Nathan and Zach following behind us. I couldn't get the self-satisfied smile on Zach's face out of my mind—his usual self; grinning like a fool in front of everyone.

"Bullshit, Zach! What the hell was that about?" Chloe burst out the moment we were outside and out of earshot.

"Ask your friend," he replied calmly. "I'm not the one who started this." Everyone looked at me. It hadn't occurred to me that I would also have to explain this to my friends. I couldn't tell them the truth since they would never allow me to do this. I needed to make this look realistic, which would be hard since they knew me so well.

I went to Zach's side and grabbed his arms. "I... I like Zach." I started, trying to hide the stutter and nervousness in my voice. "I asked him a while ago if I could be his girlfriend." I finished lamely.

"Are you out of your mind? Yesterday you hated the jerk, and now you're telling us that you like him?" Nathan was frowning so hard lines were appearing on his forehead.

"My words exactly... watch your mouth, shitface!" Zach threatened, and moved toward Nathan's direction ready to punch him. Luckily, I was clinging unto his arm and was able to stop him.

"Enough!" Chloe yelled. She looked annoyed and not contented with my explanation. "You really like him? Kiss him then." She challenged me. "You said you wanted your first kiss to be with someone special right? Since you claim that you like Zach and he is your boyfriend ..." She made a shooing motion with her hands, as if to say that I should go on and get it over with.

Chloe knew me so much. Yes, I told her that my first kiss would be with the person that I love, but I definitely did not love Zach. I couldn't give him my first kiss, not with him! I hated him so much. But if this was the only way to convince them that I like him, I guess I would have to sacrifice this. I had sacrificed a lot anyway—my pride, my dignity and now this.

I looked at Zach, and I could almost feel every cell in my body protesting to this. I tried to calm myself. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I'd just imagine that he was Nathan. I was starting to lean into Zach when I heard the sound of flesh meeting flesh and felt his arm jerk out of my grasp. I opened my eyes and saw Zach was laid out on the floor. Nathan was standing over him, looking angry. Zach got up, ready to punch Nathan on the face, but luckily Chloe got in his way.

"Stop this! Take your fight somewhere else! Not in front of us!" Chloe demanded, and they all calmed down. Yes, they all listened to Chloe because they both liked her.

I went to Zach and touched the part of his face that Nathan had hit. Of course, this was part of the act to make the story more realistic—a concerned girlfriend helping her boyfriend—but at the same time, I couldn't help but feel a bit guilty, knowing that he was in this situation because of me. Zach slapped my hands away and glared at Nathan. "You'll pay for this. We're not done!" he declared. Zach grabbed my hand and dragged me away. Everything was a mess. I hadn't expected it to be like this. I was just trying to help Chloe.

"Where are you taking her?" Nathan demanded.

Zach stopped and turned to give Nathan a smirk. "None of your damn business."

"Where are we going?" I asked him, almost skipping to keep up his pace as we left Nathan and Chloe.

"The infirmary."

"The infirmary? Why?"

"You're my girlfriend, aren't you? Ice isn't going to walk itself to my face." He said as if it was the most obvious answer in the world.

I glanced back and saw Nathan trying to follow us, while Chloe held him back. They both looked shocked. I couldn't blame them. I had a lot of explaining to do. I have to convince them that I really liked Zach. There was no way I was telling them the truth.

When Zach and I got to the infirmary, he finally let go of my hand. His grip was really painful.

"Get some ice." He commanded.

He didn't want a demanding girlfriend but he was the one demanding too much? I was starting to regret this stupid plan, but there was no turning back now. I frowned at him and smiled at the nurse who handed me the pack when I explained that he'd had a small accident. "Press it gently to his face," she said after she examined him.

I nodded and thrust it forcefully against his cheek.

"Be gentle!" He complained at the rough treatment.

Good for you. I smiled and enjoyed the sound of his pain. He deserved it, the jerk. "I'm sorry. I'll be gentle." I said, trying so hard not to sound sarcastic.

"You're now officially my girlfriend. How does it feel?" He asked with a smirk on his face.

"I'm so happy." I lied. "Thank you."

"You being my girlfriend isn't so bad after all. But you have to make sure that I don't regret this decision." I tried my very best not to roll my eyes in dismay. He was being so arrogant even in a situation like this. "By the way, thanks for coming with me and taking care of me. I really appreciate it," he said with a smile. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment. I'd never seen him make that face before. Was this for real? Was this side of him really exist? No way!

"I'm your girlfriend. It's my duty, right?" I said, smiling back. What was I saying?

"Well, that's enough. I think I should sleep for a while. You should be heading to your class now. You've missed a lot." He said with concerned look on his face. "By the way, you have to wait for me later. I'll drive you home." He added.

What was this gentleman gesture all about? I thought he didn't believe in sticking to one girl? Now he was offering me a ride home? Did Nathan punch him too hard? "Oh no need for that, Nathan will do it. He always drives me home. Besides, I know you still have a lot of things to do so don't worry about it." I assured him.

Zach grabbed my hand and he gave me a serious look. "No! Wait for me, all right? I'll take you home from now on. I'm your boyfriend, not that jerk Nathan. Understood?"

Surprised at the declaration, I nodded and pulled my hand back out of his grasp. "Yes. Fine. I understand. I have to go now. Sleep well." I excused myself and hurried out of the infirmary.

My heart was beating so fast and my face felt so hot, the words boyfriend and drive you home still ringing in my ears. He was my boyfriend, and he would be driving me home from today onward. For sure I'd encounter those words more often from now on. I should prepare and not let myself to be caught off-guard again.

There was no turning back.

It was official.

I was dating the playboy.
