Oliver

All I've heard this morning is how I need to learn about the family business. How can I function without understanding technology and how I'm letting down the family by not being more active in the family business. I'm not a businessman, I'm not the one who will work in an office, behind a desk, nine to five every day in a suit and tie. My father has hounded me nonstop all morning and I'm completely fed up with him and don't want to hear another word about it. Then my mother decided to get on the phone and start in on how I need to settle down and she thinks Avery is a perfect match for me. I'm not going to date Avery... ever. I've got my eyes set on Abby, but I can't tell my mother that. She would do a full background check on her and as soon as she finds out Abby is a waitress, she'll knock down that idea immediately. She would even go to Abby and get rid of her if she thought Abby could be paid off. I know Abby can't be. It's one of her best traits. I'm not going to let my mother tell me who I can and cannot date. My mother needs to stay out of my personal life.

I'm working on my endorsements and press releases now and all the internet and media news. I'm supposed to do weekly updates for my movies and endorsements, but I'm not doing well with it. I truly suck with technology and don't like working with it. I'm convinced because of my family it's a mental block I've placed in my head just so I never have to work for my father. I'm struggling to find the right words for my upcoming movie interview announcement and could really use help.

I've been texting Abby a lot more in the last day. Since I left the foundation, I text her almost all night last night. I didn't get much sleep, but it was a great night. She had just gotten home from work at eleven and was watching a movie, so I turned on the same one. We commented on the movie talked a little bit and next thing I know, it's four in the morning. I didn't care. I found out she's an only child, from Seattle, but moved here when she turned eighteen. She never knew her father and her mother died when she was sixteen from cancer. Abby's been on her own since then. It explained so much about her and shows just how strong and independent she is. I smiled the entire time I was texting her and as I reread each one of the messages she sent me, I'm smiling again. Not because of what she said, because that was sad and I felt bad for her, but because she was willing to open up to me. Looking at my phone, I remember Abby telling me if I needed help to call her. Smiling at my idea, I pull her up on my phone and dial.

"Hey stranger, what did you finally give up texting and decided to just call or did your computer go down?" Abby answers on the third ring, her voice sounds tired and sexy, but her comments make me laugh. I guess I'm predictable.

"Not quite, but you're close. I'm working on my publicity announcements and I'm screwing it up. Are you busy? Is there any chance you can come over and help me out?" I ask, hoping she's able to come over.

"Yeah, I've never done that, but I can try. As long as I'm out by three. I have to work at five. That gives me time to get the bus home and to work at Wraps. Okay?" She explains immediately I frown when I hear her mention her car as I wonder what happened. Even if she's never done the work before, she's got to be better than me at this. I'm willing to take the chance on her.

"What happened to your car? Why are you taking the bus?" I frown as I ask, she had her car the other day. She didn't mention anything about having problems with it.

"It broke down, I'll get it fixed after I get paid. Don't worry about it Oliver, it's fine." Abby says softly, I can hear her yawn. "I'll be there soon."

"I can come get you. Give me your address." I tell her. I don't want her taking the bus. I know public transportation should be safe and all, but I don't want her riding it. "You need to give me your address anyway, so this is just getting it a day early."

"Oliver, it's not a big deal, I've taken the bus many times. I can take the bus." Abby is digging her heels in. I don't get it. Why is she so stubborn?

"It gives you time to get ready. Bring your work clothes with you. You can change here. I'll take you to work and take you home. Don't argue! Text me your address. I'm leaving in five for you." I don't wait for her to respond and hang up. I'm not letting her ride the bus, plus this gives me more time with her. Quickly, I get dressed and throw my shoes on and grab my keys off the kitchen counter and head out the door. As soon as I get in my car, I get Abby's text with her address. After plugging it in to my GPS I look at where she lives.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I mutter to myself. She lives in one of the worst areas of LA, not the absolute worst, but definitely on the lower end. I drive following the directions and pull up in front of her condo. Just as I'm getting out of the car, Abby is walking up. She's not letting me get to see inside her place. Why? "I was going to come get you at your door."

"Yeah, It's okay. Probably not safe to leave this out here unattended." Abby smiles shyly and gets in the passenger side of the car. Her hand runs over the seat, then runs reverently over the dash. I watch her as she appreciates the fine art of my car. She admires every inch turning around and looking behind her as well. I wait for her to settle in her seat before I start the engine. "I've never been in a Lamborghini before." I smile and give her a minute to check it out. "I love these cars." She giggles.

Fuck, I can't drive like this. She likes my car. I've got a hard on that would break the damn door off right now. I love her laugh.

I swallow hard and try to gather myself. She has no idea what she's doing to me. "Let's go shall we?" I pull out just in time as several guys walk towards us.

"You should hurry up." Abby says and slides down in her seat. I'm watching her hide from the guys.

"What are you doing?" I ask as I turn the wheel and pull out of the parking lot and drive off.

"If they see me with you, they'll come to my place thinking I have money they can get their hands on. It's really not a good idea for you to come here. I appreciate you wanting to give me a ride and all, but I'm the one that has to explain to them that you're just giving me a ride and I don't really know you." Abby says softly. I didn't think that she would have a problem with anyone who saw me picking her up or dropping her off. I don't want to put her in a position where she could get hurt.

"I didn't think about that. I can drive a different car next time. I'm sorry Abby, I didn't even take that into consideration." It never even crossed my mind that she would be approached by someone that would hurt her because of me.

"I know, it's fine. How many cars do you have?" She asks softly.

"Four. A truck, an SUV, this one and another car." I tell her. "You can borrow one if you want until yours is fixed." I should have thought of that before.

"God no!" Abby looks freaked out and I can't help but laugh at her expression. "I'm not borrowing some hundred thousand dollar car from you! My luck, it would get stolen as soon as I get home. Thank you, but no."

I can't help, but like her more every time I get to spend time with Abby. She's completely down to earth and real. There are so many girls that would jump at borrowing a car, having me spend money on them, buy them things, take them places not to mention get on that red carpet with me. I guess that is the ultimate goal if they can walk a red carpet and get a picture with me then they're someone. Abby is just the opposite. She won't take a large tip, she doesn't want me to help her with anything, she won't work for me and getting a date with her has been one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I got it. Tomorrow night I got my date with her.

"What is it exactly you need me to help you with?" Abby changed the subject. She wasn't going to let me help her. I know it but that doesn't mean I won't try.

"I need to do an update on my upcoming movie and the current one that just came out. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter all that needs to get an update then I have to announce my upcoming endorsements. There's four of them. I know it's a lot of work, but I have no idea what I'm doing." I really want her to work for me full time. If I can convince her into this a little at a time I'm gonna have her full time soon. "I'm paying you for your time today, that's not optional, Abby. I'm asking for your help with work, that means you get paid."

"Okay, but only what's reasonable no going crazy." Abby says and I smile. Her version and mine of reasonable are very different, I already know this.

We get to my house and head upstairs to the office. I get her setup with samples of previous statements and endorsements announcements and summaries of the movies that she can say. While Abby gets to work I go down to the kitchen and get a late lunch together for us. As I'm putting together sandwiches Dylan and Mason come in. Looking at the two plates of food and drinks on the table they smirk at me.

"Who ya got here, Oliver?" Mason asks grinning ear to ear at me.

"Abby is working in the office for me on some stuff and I wanted to be sure she eats before I take her to work in a little bit." I fix a pitcher of iced tea and set it on the table.

Abby, huh? You're spending a lot of time talking to her lately, man. You really are getting hooked aren't you?" Mason continues.

"What are you guys doing here?" I'm not answering him. What's going on with Abby and me, I don't know yet. I'm not even sure I want to share her with anyone yet. It's still so new that I really want to keep Abby to myself until we figure it out. I know what I want that doesn't mean she's going to agree.

"Avery." Dylan says. Well that doesn't sound good. He leans against the counter crossing his arms over his chest and I can tell something happened that he needs to tell me about. Christ what has she done this time? "I swear I'm not involved in this game of hers, man. She's really losing it. I think it's best for you stay far away from her for a while. Avery has really gotten obsessed with you."

Abby walks in and looks at the boys then back to me. I could tell by her face she had heard the comment about Avery. I still haven't explained that stupid picture. I know I told her it wasn't what it looked like, but that's all I said. I. should have said something more to her. I walk over and without even thinking about it and wrap my arm around her waist and guided her to the table.

"I made us a late lunch. Just so I know you eat before you go to work." I tell her softly as I pull her chair out for her and wait for her to sit down. "Dylan and Mason just showed up. I didn't know they were coming."

"That's okay, I can get out of your way. I can go get to work a little early. It's no big deal." She starts to stand, but I put my hand on her shoulder and stop her.

"I'm driving you remember. I promised I'd take you and pick you up. I'm not going to leave you without a ride. Besides I'm hungry." I sit down next to her and pick up my sandwich as the guys join us.

Abby

Oliver can really be high handed sometimes. I get it, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and is used to getting his way all the time. I just think this is more than I'm used to dealing with. I can handle it at work, but to have the same behavior at home it's not what I'm used to. I've been on my own for so long I don't know how to deal with someone who wants to do so much for me. He fusses over me even over the phone and text it's weird. It makes me uncomfortable. I know most girls would love this kind of attention, but I'm not that way.

And now his friends are talking about this Avery girl being obsessed with him. Great. After being told what a perfect match she was for Oliver, in my curiosity I looked her up and felt my stomach roll finding out that Delilah was right. Avery is a perfect socialite and more Oliver's match in every way. Not that I was wanting that I'm not going to fool myself into thinking Oliver was even interested in anything with me, but he asked me out and wants me to work for him. He obviously wants something. It's probably just sex. That's all most guys think they can get from me. I should have learned that one by now.

"Abby? You there?" Oliver touches my arm and I felt a rush of heat fill me. Inhaling fast I quickly grabbed my drink to cover my reaction to his touch. Well that's new, I've never had that happen before.

"Sorry just thinking about work. I should go, you don't need to take me. Then you can hang out with your friends." I insist, but Oliver takes my hand and holds it tight.

"Stay, please. I want you to hear this conversation. You need to know this." Oliver turns to Dylan and nods. "Tell her about Avery and tell me what happened."

Dylan runs his hand over his face. He obviously doesn't want to do this. "Avery is my sister. I love her, but lately she's gotten a bit crazy over Oliver. She's obsessive about him. It's getting worse, Ollie. She was parked outside when we got here just now. She was completely flipping out on me, because you came home with a beautiful redhead. Now we know who that is." Dylan looks at me and smiles. "She's pissed, Ollie. I don't know what she's going to do, but I wouldn't put it past her to try something with you again."

"I didn't see her. Why was she parked outside?" Oliver asks still holding my hand and gently rubbing his thumb over my knuckles to soothe me.

"She said she wanted to talk to you, but you weren't home. I think she was going to sneak in and you drove up before she could. When she saw you two it pissed her off. Avery has a bad temper as it is, but I've never seen her like this. Your mother isn't helping matters. Kate said Avery's going to see her almost daily now." Dylan shook his head. "Get your mom to back her off, maybe she can talk some sense into her."

"I can try. Mother wasn't listening this morning. She brought up Avery then too. I completely shut her down. I wouldn't even listen to what she had to say. I'm so tired of her trying to play matchmaker for me. I'm a fucking adult! I don't need help finding a woman." Oliver was getting upset.

"Your with a different one every week. You'd think she could see you have plenty of dates." I tell him and Oliver's mouth drops. Dylan and Mason do their best to muffle their laughter. As I looked at Oliver's face I realized what I said was wrong. I'm seeing things from the outside and I shouldn't comment. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. It was out of line."

"No, it's been accurate in the past. I just didn't know you paid attention to who I dated." Oliver tilted his head looking at me like he was trying to peel a layer back on me to see what was inside.

"Your in every headline and on the front page and first item of the news, we live in LA, I work across the street from the studios. I hear a lot of things. More than I want to ever know sometimes." I explain as his hand tightens on mine, like he's afraid I'll run away. "You were in the paper with Avery from the gala, but you haven't been in the news in a couple weeks with anyone." I don't know why I keep talking, but I can't seem to stop. "You're usually in the news at least every weekend, if not two or three times a week, have you lost your touch or just your interest?" Damn, sometimes I really wish I had a filter on my mouth.

"Neither, my interest got narrowed down to a very singular interest. I'm just waiting her out." Oliver smiles as if this is some kind of inside joke between us. I have no idea what he's talking about.

"Then she's very lucky. You're a nice guy, not many millionaires are. I'm gonna go back and finish my work before I stick my foot in my mouth again." I laugh at myself. Murphy's law, if I can say something to embarrass myself, I will in the worst way possible. I think I just made it even worse. Fuck! I get up and quickly head back up the stairs to his office and finish what I came here to do.

Once I'm done, it's an hour later and I need to get to work. I head to the bathroom and change into my work clothes and with my bag in hand I head back down to the kitchen where Oliver is on the phone. I walk in and knock on the wall just so he knows I'm there. Seeing that I'm dressed for work he nods to me understanding I need to go.

"Mother, this discussion is over. You need to tell Avery that I'm not interested and to back off. I have to go. I'll talk to you later." Oliver hung up obviously frustrated and upset over the conversation. "Sorry, my mother doesn't make anything easy. You all set?"

"Yes, everything is done. I think it's good, but if anything needs to be changed, let me know. I have to get to work now, though." I tell him and Oliver nods then hands me an envelope.

"For today. If I need anything else, I'll let you know. I'd like to have you come over again soon... if you're free?" Oliver smiles and opens the door.

"For what?" I ask as we walk to the car. I tuck the envelope into my bag without opening it.

"Anything, a movie, dinner without the guys preferably." Oliver closes the door and walks around to his side. I'm confused, but maybe he just wants to be friends. I can do that. I'm friends with guys. He gets in and starts the car. "I like spending time with you, Abby. I really want you working for me full time."

"I don't know. Can I think about it? I've never done this kind of work before, it's completely out of my wheelhouse." I tell him. I did like doing all the stuff for him today. And I think I did a good job with it. I won't know for sure until he actually sees it, but I did enjoy it.

"Yes. I'll take that." He was grinning by the time he reached the restaurant. "I'll be back at eleven to get you." Oliver held my hand until I agreed.

I sighed and finally nodded knowing he was going to come either way. "Fine. But bring the truck or something lower key." Oliver grinned and pulled my hand to his lips and kissed it.

"I don't want you getting in trouble because I kiss you out here." Oliver teases me as I get out. "Text me if you're done earlier." I nod and wave as I walk in. I notice he stayed until I got inside the restaurant. No one has done that before.

The night dragged through my shift and a part of me was looking forward to seeing Oliver at the end of the night. I shouldn't feel like this. He's just being nice since I helped him out today and he knew I didn't have a car. There's nothing else to it. Right? I'm so distracted I screwed up several tables orders which I never do, I drop a tray of glasses and forget to even plug in one order. I'm going to be lucky if I don't get fired tonight. It's my worst night of work since I started three years ago.

My shift was long and hectic and I came out tired and ready to crash. Walking outside I see Oliver leaning against a F150 waiting for me. He looks up smiling and opens the passenger door for me. I smile back, I've never been so happy to see someone before.

"Hey sweetheart, how was your night?" Oliver asks as I reach him. As I start to get in, he reaches around and kisses the side of my head then gives me a boost into the truck. He walks around and climbs in then leans over, his hand cupping the side of my face and pulls me to him. "Let me try that again." He whispers against my lips as he softly
