Abby

I'm running late. Beyond late because I took the time to help someone who really needed it. I don't like leaving anyone stuck when I know I'm able to help. Melanie says I need to learn to say no. I don't think that's my problem. I think people just ask the person they know will do what they need. It just happens to usually be me. I know Oliver Steel didn't ask for my help as much as I offered it. It didn't take me long to do it either, but it was the extra time it took me to get my mind back on what I was supposed to be doing that messed me up today. I left his house and drove off as fast as I could then pulled into a parking lot and sat for twenty minutes just to breathe. Oliver Steel is gorgeous. He is polite and goofy and his smile is stunning and I was star struck. I never got this way. I see a lot of stars all the time at the restaurant and bar, most are obnoxious and rude. I serve them and move on, they don't matter in my life. I most certainly don't matter in theirs. I don't run in the stars circles, I work in a restaurant where they eat, I have to serve them, wait on them. And they act like royalty most of the time. Oliver Steel is just one more, He was just nicer than the others.

"You met Oliver Steel? As in sexiest man of the year, most eligible bachelor, Oliver Steel?" Melanie ask laying on my bed watching me quickly change my clothes. I don't have much time to get to work. I'm running late thanks to Mr. Steel not leaving my mind for the rest of the day.

"Yes." I pulled on my short black skirt and long sleeve black v neck shirt. Moving over to my mirror, I pull my hair up into a ponytail and pull on my black heels. I hate wearing them, but I get more tips when I do. I'll be soaking my feet when I get home trying to get rid of the pain.

"Details Abby! Is he as hot in person?" Melanie grins at me. She's obviously star struck. "Does he really have a twelve pack?"

"He was nice. I have to go. I'll be late... I'm closing again." I grab my purse and start for the door.

"Abigail Murphy! Nice? He's the sexiest man alive in People magazine for the last two years. All you're gonna say is he's nice?" Melanie looks at me in shock disappointment. I can see she's really hoping for more. She's going to be disappointed. I didn't stay around long enough for anything else.

"I have to go. He's computer dumb by the way! But definitely has a cute butt, he did have his clothes on Melanie, so I have no idea about his abs. Bye!" I race out because that's all she's getting from me. I don't gossip about people, I keep to myself and I stay away from the celebrities. There's too many in this town that are just plain trouble. I don't need any more trouble in my life. But Murphy's law, it always seems to find me.

Wrapped is slammed by the time I get there. I'm a waitress three nights a week at this restaurant across the street from three of the big movie studios. We get tons of actors, actresses, directors and producers in all the time, not to mention all the crew that comes in. Part of the contract in being hired here is not to approach anyone for autographs or requests for jobs. It's immediate grounds for termination. I've worked here for three years and have seen many fall. I run to the back and store my bag in my locker and grab an apron and iPad and check to see what station I have tonight. I'm on 17-21 tables. Not bad, it's in the back corner close to the bar and not as much running around. It might be easier on my feet. I head out front and check in with the hostess and prep my station in ten minutes. I'm seated and have a full station immediately and going for the next five hours.

"Abby will you help me carry out? Table 6." Matt yells over to me from the POS system as he rings in an order for the bar.

"Yep, on my way." I head back into the kitchen and grab a tray. I start loading it up and then the second when Matt comes in right behind me.

"You're an angel, Abby." He whispers touching my back as he moves behind me to grab the first tray. "How about I thank you by taking you to dinner tomorrow?"

"Sorry, Matt. I'm working. Thanks though." I balance the tray on my shoulder and nod for him to go, following him out and across to the opposite side of the restaurant.

"Is there ever a time you aren't working, Abby? Every time I ask you out you're busy." Matt says over his shoulder to me.

"Keeps me out of trouble." I smile when he turns around to look at me.

"You keep smiling at me that way Abby, I'm gonna find a way to get you to go out with me. I love your smile." Matt stops everything and just stares at me for a long moment. What is with these guys today?

"Matt? They're waiting for their food." I tell him softly. He's such a nice guy, but I'd never go out with someone I work with. It's just not a good idea.... not again.

Oliver

I agreed to dinner out with Dylan and Mason only because I want help finding my red headed bombshell that I can't seem to get off my mind. We walk into the restaurant Wrapped and it's fucking packed. There's a reason I never eat here. I've heard it's good, but every time I go by it's standing room only. We look around and try to decide whether to stay or go somewhere else. That's when I see a flash of curly red hair walk past with a tray on her shoulder. Holy shit! She works here too? My eyes are glued to her as she balances on those high heels and the tray of food on her shoulder as she weaves in and out of the crowd. It's when she stops and turns I finally get to see her face. Yes! It's my Abby. The girl that has been on my mind all day.

"Fuck! This place is a madhouse!" Dylan yells over the noise as we push our way into the front door towards the hostess stand.

"Why don't we go to Clive's. It's never this packed?" Mason suggests.

"I'm not leaving." I say and both my friends look at me like I'm crazy. I'm the one that hates to wait in places like this. I always get harassed, hit on and asked for my number by God knows how many girls I wouldn't ever date. I'm the one not budging. I walk up to the hostess stand and smile. "Three please. I'd like to sit in Abby's section.... please." Both my friends have walked up next to me frowning and look from me to the hostess. Both seem to be questioning my sanity.

"Who's Abby, Olie?" Dylan whispers nudging my side.

"Abby's section is full. I can put you in Karen's, Mr. Steel?" The young girl tries to help me as she bats her eyes at me. Fuck! one more girl who wants to hit on me.

I shake my head. "I want Abby. I'll wait for her section. Can you let her know I'm here, please.?" I want to talk to her, see her. Shit! I want to take her home with me.

"She's pretty busy, Mr. Steel. We're right in the middle of dinner rush..." I'm not budging. I just look at her and smile tightly at her waiting for her to do as I've asked. I'm used to getting what I want, most people don't tell me no. She looks nervous and uncomfortable. I really don't like making people feel that way, but I want to see Abby. ".....I'll tell her you're here," with that the young girl disappeared into the back.

Dylan slaps my back and nods towards where the hostess disappeared to. He's smirking at me, but had no idea what is going on. Mason crosses his arms and looks around. He hates crowds as much as I do, so sitting here waiting isn't our normal at all.

"Okay Oliver, you want to wait, not just for a table in a crazy busy restaurant, but you're requesting a certain waitress you don't even know. What's going on, man?" Dylan asks crossing his arms over his chest to wait. He raises his eyebrows at me and smiles at a blonde that walks by. His eyes drop to her ass as she passes.

I was about to answer when I turned and saw the hostess motion in our direction and Abby's face drop when she see me then turns away fast. Fuck! Doesn't she want to see me? This so isn't what I normally deal with. Abby walks quickly towards us. She looks at me, those green eyes meet mine and I'm breathing heavy and I can feel myself start to sweat, then she looks behind me at Mason and Dylan. Her eyes kept moving around the restaurant like she's afraid of getting in trouble. She's looking for someone. Her manager. Crap, I don't want to get her in trouble. I can't keep my eyes off her though. The uniform certainly did something for her and me. I'm getting hard just looking at her. The low V showed just enough cleavage, the short skirt showed plenty of leg, those are some nice legs too, topped off with those high heels. She can walk fast in those too. Damn that's one nice package.

"Mr Steel, how can I help you?" Abby greets me softly as if she doesn't know me.

"Hey Abby, It's Oliver. I didn't realize you worked here too?" I say smiling into those beautiful green eyes. I'm trying to connect here, but she's not letting me. Damn, she's got a wall up.

"Yes. I'm sorry, my station is full. The girls can get you seated in another area immediately." Abby started, but I shook my head. I want her. "It's gonna be like forty five minutes at least, Mr. Steel. You don't want to wait that long just for me."

"It's Oliver and I'll wait. I want you. No one else." I tell her watching those green eyes get big. She bites that lip and says nothing else, but turns on her heels and goes to the hostess and says something to her then walks away.

"What the fuck, Oliver? Forty five minutes? Do you even know her?" Mason asks and I nod. I'm about to get to know her. "How do you know a waitress from a restaurant we've never been to?"

"It's a long story." I tell them and continue watching Abby as she moves all over that restaurant. God she moves so gracefully in and out of the crowd. Slipping in between people, and around others as she delivers drinks and takes orders then moves again to deliver food. I'm completely entranced.

"Apparently we have time to kill, so spill Oliver. I'm starving and now I'm waiting for dinner. You better have a good reason we're not leaving for something faster. Who is this girl?" Mason waits for an answer.

Abby's got my full attention. She's in the bar picking up drinks, at tables serving them or taking orders. She helping others take out food. When I see the dark haired server touch her back intimately and lean in to whisper something in her ear, all I could feel was anger, a fast jealous rage. She's mine, okay maybe not yet, but who the fuck is that guy and why is he getting so close to Abby?

"Dude! Snap out of it." Mason says and looks at the direction I'm staring at. "Who's the goofball?"

"I don't know. I'll ask Abby." I mutter my own arms crossing over my chest now.

We watch Abby as I tell the guys what happened this morning and we wait for a table in her section to open up. The guys seem just as entranced with Abby as I am. Girls all around us wave and flirt at us, I'm not in the mood. I see a couple of girls that I've worked with, a couple more I've hooked up with and a few I really don't want to remember at all. Damn, this place is a land mine of who's who. Abby works here, I wonder if she's trying to get into the business? If so, most girls jump at the chance for anything with me. Abby literally ran out the door into the pouring rain. I don't get it. If she's interested in this business, why not do what she can to get her foot in the door.

"Maybe she's dating the goof." Dylan says and I growl at the idea. I don't even want to think that.

"Mr. Steel, your table is ready." The perky hostess says and guides us back to the far back corner. I look around as we walk through and see a lot of eyes on us. It's the first time we've been here and it's like everyone here knows us. In a way, it's nice but it's also weird. We go through the bar to the back dining area, and the atmosphere changes a bit. I like it back here, it's not as crazy, we can talk without screaming, people seem to be keeping to themselves and I can finally talk to Abby.

It only takes a couple minutes before Abby's at our table and I'm on my feet standing in front of her like an idiot when she comes over. "Mr. Steel."

"Abby, it's Oliver and it's good to see you again." I stare into those big green eyes and smile. She's gorgeous.

"Why don't you sit down, Mr. Steel. Relax you're here for dinner." Abby says and motions back to my chair. I sit back down slowly and she smiles softly, shyly with her head down. "What can I get you to start with this evening?"

"Corona, please." Dylan smiles at her and Abby looks up and nods.

"Same." Mason says as Abby's eyes move to him. Again she nods then those green eyes land back on me.

"It's Oliver, Abby. Water, please. I'm filming this week. I got my calendar up with a little help." I tell her and with that I get a soft laugh from her. A beautiful musical laugh.

"Okay. Any appetizers?" She asks then looks at each of us. I swear she's got all three of us in a trance.

"Potato skins and onion rings." Mason says with a big grin. The asshole knows I can't eat either of them right now and I love them.

"Okay, I'll be right back with the drinks for you then." Abby did a couple things on her iPad and was off. All three of us turned and watched her walk away. I was right, her ass looked just as good as the rest of her especially in that tight short skirt. When she disappeared, I spun around to my friends both had the same goofy grins on their faces as I did.

"She's mine. I saw her first. I'm not sharing!" Were the first words out of my mouth as soon as she was out of earshot.

"Who is she, man?" Dylan asks again. "I mean I get she came to your house, you screwed up and she ran away, but what do you know about her? She works at the foundation and here? Come on, Olie this isn't like you and she really isn't your type."

"Yeah, you're mom would flip if she knew you were running around chasing a waitress." Mason says just as Abby came back with our drinks.

"Here you go." Abby says softly and sets our drinks in front of us. "The appetizers will be ready in just a few minutes."

"So Abby, you have two jobs?" I ask her trying to learn something about her.

"No, three. Can I get you anything else for the moment?" She looks at each of us.

"Three jobs? Why?" I don't get it. Why does she need to work three jobs?

"Some of us aren't as fortunate as others. Bills have to be paid somehow, Mr. Steel. I'll go check on those appetizers." Abby keeps her voice cool and walks away.

"Damn, if you wanted to piss her off, you did it." Mason laughs and drinks his beer. He was finding my frustration quite entertaining.

Fuck! Not what I meant to do.

I get up and head straight to the back by the kitchen door where I saw her disappear to. The goof walks out and right into me. "Hey, Sorry man. Can I help you with something?" He asks.

"Yeah, I need to talk to Abby." I tell him.

"You're in her section right? I can send her over." He says.

"No! I want to talk to her. Right here, right now." I demand it. He looks at me, then looks around like Abby did.

"Look man, our manager is really strict. I don't think you want her getting in trouble, right? I'll tell her to come over to your table, okay?" I realize he's keeping her out of trouble with the boss. Okay, I don't want her in trouble. I nod and head back to the table. As the goof brings out the appetizers.

Dylan and Mason give me crap continually for opening my mouth stupidly, for not thinking before I spoke. I'm an idiot and I feel bad for not thinking about what I said. Today just seems to be one of those days where if it can go wrong it will.

"Are you ready to order?" Abby asks as soon as she comes back. As if she doesn't know us, as if nothing was said. She's all business now and I'm losing any chance I had. Dylan and Mason both give her their orders. "And for you Mr. Steel?"

Are you on the menu? I want to ask, but I don't. All I do is keep sticking my feet in my mouth.

"It's Oliver. I'm sorry, Abby." I tell her softly both Dylan and Mason go silent. I never apologize, never. She says nothing but nods and sighs. "Chinese salad, please."

"I'll get that right out for you." Abby says and walks away.

"You apologized to her. Who are you and what have you done to Oliver?" Mason teases me.

"Ask her out. If you like her, ask her out." Dylan say softly, he knows me well.

Within fifteen minutes our meals comes out. Abby isn't the one that brings it though, it's the goofy guy. He sets our plates down and I look around for Abby. I can't see her anywhere. The guy leaves and we eat.

"So you've got the fundraiser tomorrow night?" Dylan asks shoveling food in.

"Yeah, I have to do some presentation. Then there's a dinner." I'm not really interested I'm looking for Abby. I haven't seen her come back out.

"Isn't she gonna be there?" Dylan asks. "You said she works for the foundation, so Abby should be there, right?"

"Yeah, but she said she working it." I don't know what that means.

"Can I get you anything else?" Abby was behind me. Shit!

"Abby!" I stood up and turned around to her. Taking her hand so she couldn't disappear on me. "Can I talk to you, get your number, take you out? Something?"

Abby shook her head as she set the bill on the table. "I appreciate the offer, but I don't have time. I hope you find an assistant Mr. Steel. Enjoy your evening." With that she walks away and I'm left baffled yet again. This girl just keeps running away from me and all I want to do is chase after her.

I paid the bill, making sure to leave her a good tip and walked out to the car. The three of us weren't saying much after Abby blew me out of the water again. I'm not sure what to do now. She has run away from me and flat out turned me down. I've never been turned down for a date ever.

"So Olie, how's it feel to find out you're not a God?" Mason asks me laughing. "I've never seen a girl flat out reject you like that. It was awesome!"

"Fuck you!" I growl, I'm not done yet. I just don't know what to do.

"Mr. Steel!" I hear her beautiful voice and stop in mid stride and turn around as she hurries over to me. "Mr. Steel, you forgot your change."

I smile at her and shake my head. "It's Oliver, remember. That was your tip Abby, not my change."

"I can't take this. It's too much." Abby pushes the money towards me.

"Abby, you work hard in there, you earned it. Keep it." I tell her. I watched her, she was all over that restaurant tonight. I didn't see any of the others running as much as she was.

"I can't take this much. It's not right." Abby counted out what she felt was fair and gave me the rest. Seriously who does this?

"If you won't take it, then give me your number? At least let me get to know you a little." I'm begging at this point. Anything she'll give me.

"Good night Mr. Steel. Don't forget to open your packet for tomorrow evening." Abby turns to go in.

"I still need an assistant, Abby! I'll pay you double what you're making at all three jobs to come work for me." I yell across the lot. Abby stops and looks around like I just said something that could get her in trouble. Shit! What did I say? "Abby?"

She walks over quickly and shakes her head at me. "Please don't, Oliver. You're going to get me fired. We aren't allowed to take jobs from customers or solicit for jobs, dates,
