Chapter 7- Scene of crime

Rose sighed and leaned back in her chair. She stared at the laptop in front of her.

She had been job hunting as she refused to sit at home and be a house wife. She knew that Daemon had said he would get her a job but she didn't really trust him on that.

Especially since it was already 1 in the early morning and he still wasn't home.

She glanced up at the clock again for probably the 5th time in the past 10 minutes.

It was 1:05.

And there was no sign of the idiot.

She sighed again and put her head in her arms. Her father thought it was good to marry this no good loser? He had left her in the morning without a word. She had had no idea where anything was and there was no food in the refrigerator.

She had to go shopping for food but there she met a small dilemma.

She had no money.

After stealing some money on her husband's counter, she had quenched her hunger.

And she had been in front of the laptop after that. And she hadn't got a single call from him.

It wasn't to be mistaken that she was clingy or anything and in fact, she had had plenty of experience with men though none of them ended well. But her husband was taking intolerable to a whole new level.

Had he forgotten she existed?

Probably, she wouldn't be surprised.

Rose jerked and looked frantically at the door.

"Why are the lights on?"

She sighed in relief and leaned back. It was only her idiot of a husband.

He soon came into vision looking like a he was buried and then brought out of the ground.

"Oh you," he stated tiredly at her and sank into the couch opposite hers.

"Yes me. You know, the person who you married a while ago?" she asked sarcastically.

He shrugged.

"Where were you the entire while?" she asked angrily.

He shrugged again.

"Do you know how frightened I was?" Rose said but then felt embarrassed to admit it. But she was only again greeted with his shrug.

"Who do you think you are? Don't you have a cell to call me?" she asked angrily.

He sighed and got up.

"See woman, I don't have to explain my life to you. We don't have to act like a happy couple as neither of our parents are here. So, you will go your way while I go mine. What I do is none of your business and don't bother asking me as I you won't get any answer from. Just stay out of my way."

Rose looked stupefied as Daemon crossed the room, opened the refrigerator and downed the bottle of ice cold water. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and started walking towards the staircase.

He stopped and turned abruptly and looked at her awestruck expression.

"Your clothes will arrive tomorrow. The car is outside and your appointment letter is in the mail box. I keep my promises. Always."

With that he left her.

Daemon stood at the empty alley and observed the scene.

The murder had occurred day before yesterday and the place was still on police survey. He saw Aiden move around and talk to the forensic department people. The girl's father was glaring at him from the side.

Daemon walked slowly and his eyes studied the place. It was not a popular place but it wasn't completely deserted. It was just a road that had no end.

"The body was found here," Aiden said coming to him and pointing at the corner of the alley. Daemon nodded as he saw Aiden's gloved hands hold a bloodied knife in a plastic forensic bag.

"The weapon?" Daemon asked and he nodded.

"It was found with the body in the girl's hand."

"How was she killed?" Daemon asked with interest.

"Stabbed straight at the chest. From the marks of the wound, it is obvious that this knife was used. But there were also slits on both the girl's wrists. The wound is too narrow to be done by this knife and the second weapon is nowhere."

"You're taking that knife for what?" Daemon asked.

Before Aiden could answer, Daemon gave a bark of laughter.

"Do you think the murderer would be so stupid to have actually left his fingerprints on it? Stop wasting your time, Aiden," Daemon said amused. Not sharing Daemon's amusement, Aiden just huffed.

"What do you think was used for slitting her wrists?" Daemon said pretending act interested.

Aiden saw right through his façade and scowled.

"Probably a surgical blade, I am not sure."

"At what time did she die?"

"She died exactly two hours before I called you. And when we reached the spot, it had just been a few minutes after she was dead," Aiden said.

"A very excited killer at our hands, huh?" Daemon noted after clicking his tongue.

"We were told that a murder had happened exactly a day before," Aiden said guiltily.

"But you didn't bother investigating?" Daemon asked, amusement returning in his voice.

"You can't blame us, Daemon. It was a phone call and it sounded like a teen was calling. And there were many giggles in the background. Obviously we would assume that," Aiden defended himself.

"I'm not blaming you," Daemon said soothingly, "if I were in your place, I wouldn't even go a day after that."

"That was exactly what even we did. It was a panicked lady who called and said that she saw a murdered young girl in the deserted alley. The pranksters hadn't told where it would happen or when it would happen, well...I guess those weren't prankster, right?"

Daemon nodded. "I assume the lady is seeing a therapist?"

Aiden nodded.

Daemon watched the experts move around and he asked Aiden, "So, is that all?"

"No, Daemon. The girl's left ring finger is missing."

He smiled in delight as saw the photos on the wall. He stood up and went near Melody's photo and grinned sadly at it.

"Oh, Melody...I'm sorry for what happened to you," he said in a slight babyish voice. He observed her hazel bright eyes and abruptly started laughing.

He walked back to his bag and took out the plastic cover.

He smiled as he eyed what was in it.

He walked towards his beloved show case where he kept his previous trophies and medals. He opened its glass door and smiled at the empty shelf.

He removed his new memento from the plastic bag and carefully placed it on the right side of the shelf.

"Oh, baby, don't worry. There will be many more to give you company in this lonely shelf," he said with an insane smile on his face as he looked at the chopped finger.
