Chapter 24- At last

Rose walked out of the hospital waiting for her husband to catch up with her. She smiled to herself, Mr. Coldhearted was jealous.

He was acting like she could think of anyone else like that other than him. Not that she would ever admit again, she was done with his hot and cold behavior. If he wanted, he should come for her.

"WAIT! ROSALYN!"

She ignored him as there was something else bothering her.

Uberto and his mother didn't get along well, but that was kind of natural. Children rarely got along with their step parents. She also understood that his step mother might know about his sexuality and was not very comfortable with it. That would explain why she wanted her and Uberto to be together. But who she was angry at the most was the father.

She understood his position- his daughter was killed and he had a heart attack. He must have really loved his daughter.

But she could see that he was neglecting his other son. He didn't step in when his wife was fighting with his son. Yes, she also understood that he loved her but that didn't mean that he was to be suppressed by her.

"Can you stop running?"

She turned back to see that Daemon had at last caught up with her.

"Are you trying out for the bloody marathon, woman?" he asked panting. She looked around not recognizing where she was. She was too deep in thought.

She glanced at her husband who was lecturing her on whether she was trying to get hit by a car and if she had such wishes, she could have just told him.

She smiled to herself and shook her head.

"I'm so glad you are this way," she said interrupting his speech.

"...I get you are very stupid, but... wait what?"

"Even if you do start liking me, you are not going to be whipped, you hear me? I want a man who stands up for himself, not a wuss," she said and continued walking, leaving behind a very startled and slightly blushing Daemon.

............................................................................................................................................................................

"Miss. Stut, if you are going to continue acting like an idiot, I am not going to listen to your crap anymore," Daemon said stiffly through the mobile.

"Stut...of all things..."Deandra muttered.

"I thought we decided that your name isn't important?"

"I give up," Deandra said defeated, "Anyway, yes, I couldn't get any other information."

"What do you mean by you couldn't get any other information?" Daemon asked angrily, "Then what were you doing?"

"Uh... the CEO of the company asked me out on a date?"

Daemon blinked. He was silent for a minute.

"Please tell me that you agreed," he said in a very demanding tone.

"Of course I didn't. What do you take me for?" Deandra asked offended.

"I've never really bothered to classify you as anything since that is absolutely the least of my worries. You are going to go on that date and get more information, am I making myself very clear?" Daemon said removing all grounds for argument.

"But sir, I'm not interested in him. In fact I like..."

"Who you like is really the least of my worries. You will go on that date, don't make me repeat myself."

"Ok, sir," Deandra said defeated, "I'll call you tomorrow."

"Please don't. I am not interested in telephone conversations with you. An email is much more formal and appropriate," Daemon stated.

"Bye sir," Deandra said and before Daemon could comment on her rudeness, she cut the line.

"Disrespectful woman," Daemon muttered to the mobile in his hand.

"Seriously Daemon, you sound like you have a stick stuck right up your arse," Rose commented as she braided her hair in front of the dresser.

"Did I give you permission to talk?" Daemon asked her.

Rose snorted and said, "You think I need you permission for anything?"

Daemon at last looked up from the mobile at his wife who was dressed in a summer dress.

"Where do you think you are going?"

"I'm going to visit Uberto," Rose said as she fixed her hair, "You were there when I told him, weren't you?"

Daemon turned slightly pink as he thought of that.

"Wait, you are going by your own?" Daemon asked confused.

"Well, weren't you the one who told me to go anywhere I please and the only thing you were concerned about was if I turned up in the airport on time?" Rose asked as she put on her sandals.

"But..."

"Don't go against your word, sweetheart. It is unattractive," Rose said as she opened the door.

Then she turned back to her husband and said, "Oh, and don't wait up for me. Have a good day...well evening."

Then she left without another glance.

"Damn," Daemon muttered.

...................................................................................................................................................................................

"So when are you leaving the country?" Uberto asked.

"I'm not sure," Rose replied as she licked her ice cream, "Daemon changes his mind too often."

"Aaahh," Uberto said to himself, "You are the first person I have met who eats ice cream during winter."

"It's Feb, Ububu," Rose said with a grin.

"My name is Uberto, Honestly," he grumbled.

"So? Shouldn't I have a nick name for you?" Rose asked.

"Well, no..."

I'm a Barbie girl,

In the Barbie world...

Life in plastic

It's fantastic...

Uberto raised his eyebrows at Rose who had started grinning.

She took her mobile and answer the line.

"Sup, oh dear husband of mine?"

Uberto burst into laughter while Rose smiled amused. She placed her finger on her lips.

"What are you two doing?" Daemon asked annoyed.

"We are in front of the leaning Tower of Piza," Rose said.

"I'll be right there," he said and before she could say anything, he cut the line.

Uberto looked down at her confused, "Is there a problem?"

"Yeah, he is coming over," Rose said dully.

Uberto's grin became fully fledged.

"Great! I get to see Mr. Hottie again," he said happily.

"Woah, woah...dude... I get it that I said we could check out guys together, but that didn't mean my husband, however moody he is," Rose said.

"Whatever you say, Rose... I can see that you are in lurve..." Uberto said and then he started cackling like mad chicken.

"You are insane," Rose said, "and incredibly annoying. I do not like that low life."

"Of course you don't," Uberto said sarcastically. He raised his eyebrows. Rose noted that he raised his eyebrows a lot.

"Your man is there," he said pointing through the crowd.

Rose turned to where he was pointing and sure enough, the dark haired, blue eyed demon was rushing towards them.

"Hmm... I have a feeling he was following us," Uberto said amused.

"Not funny," Rose muttered and waited till Daemon reached them.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Rose asked him angrily.

"Coming with you. I have nothing else to do," he said as he ran his hand through his hair. Rose noted that he did that very often.

"You are very welcome to join us," Uberto said with a smirk. Daemon seemed to have noticed Uberto and his expression turned into one of panic.

Rose was completely shocked when she saw the usually fearless man cower behind her.

"What are you doing?" Rose said looking back at him.

"Do you want any snacks? I'll go and see if I could get us something to eat. I'm absolutely famished," Uberto said before he vanished through the crowd.

Rose knew that he had just finished two bags of chips five minutes ago.

She turned back to her husband who had seemed to regain his confidence.

"Ok, what the hell was that, Daemon? Are you a homophobe?" Rose asked angrily as she poked his chest.

"Wait, what?" Daemon asked confused, "Of course I'm not. I support equality of all individuals of all kinds."

With those words, he puffed up his chest, showing his patriotism.

Rose raised an eyebrow at him, a skill that she managed to master after learning from her new Italian friend.

"Then what is wrong with you?" Rose asked him.

"I... I just haven't met anyone like that before," Daemon said sheepishly, avoiding her gaze.

"You are one weird man. Act your usual self," Rose said rolling her eyes.

Daemon nodded and then looked away. Rose gulped and looked in the opposite direction.

An awkward silence loomed over them. This was the first time they were completely silent with nothing to talk about. Otherwise, usually they both were either yelling at each other, or one of them was annoying the other or they were both in an angry silence.

Rose honestly had no idea what to say.

Daemon cleared his throat.

"Nice place, isn't it?" Daemon asked awkwardly as he looked up at the architectural monument.

"You aren't good at small talk, are you?" Rose asked dryly. A couple of kids were running towards them. Rose managed to move out of their way but Daemon was not that lucky.

He was knocked down by them and he sat on the ground scowling.

"COME BACK HERE YOU INSISENT BRATS!" he yelled shaking his fists into the air, completely forgetting the fact that the kids were long gone.

Rose rolled her eyes again.

Useless husband.

"Get up, loser. The kids already went," Rose said. Daemon got up, grumbling under his breath about useless midgets.

"You don't like kids either, do you?" she asked slyly.

"No, I don't," he said scowling.

She smiled to herself. She was more comfortable when he was angry. When he got too sweet or normal, she felt very awkward.

"How is the case going?" she asked at last, breaking the topic that she had wanted to ask since forever.

"Down the bloody drain," he said frowning, "My new assistant is useless. I miss having Aiden around and..."

"Wait...wait..." Rose said slyly, 'let's rewind what you said. Did you just say you missed someone? The big, bad Daemon actually missed someone?"

Daemon turned slightly pink.

"I said I missed working with him because my current assistant is as useful as a caged monkey. I never said I missed him."

"Sure you didn't," Rose said with a teasing smile, she loved riling him up, "And besides, monkeys can be useful. Don't diss animals."

"Yeah whatever" he muttered, "We are going back tomorrow morning."

"Really, so soon? I didn't even get to see the place," she said pouting, looking longingly at the place.

"Yeah well, we can come back whenever we want, right?"

Rose raised an eyebrow.

Daemon quickly realized his mistake and said, "I mean, you can come back whenever you want. Not we, never we."

"Whatever you say, sweetheart, whatever you say," Rose said sarcastically, hiding her smile.

Daemon stared at her for something, like he was reading her. She looked back up at him.

His eyes were so blue... ice blue, in fact. It was so beautiful and she absolutely envied him for it. He emerald eyes were one of her best features but his eyes were better.

Of course he was more good looking that her.

But his eyes didn't hold the previous contempt, fury, disgust or even the worry that he had shown once a blue moon ago.

His eyes showed something else, something she had never seen before.

To her surprise, he placed a hand on her cheek and rubbed the corner of her lips with his thumb.

She was completely mesmerized.

The mind kept yelling at her about feminism and not to fall for the brooding idiot but she couldn't control herself.

And for that same reason, she didn't oppose when he leaned towards her and kissed her gently.

It was cliché but the entire crowd around them disappeared and all she could concentrate on was the arm that was on her waist and the hand on her cheek. Her own hand was magnetically attracted to his hair as she tugged on it.

He must have looked like a Greek God while she looked like a stupid chimpanzee trying to maul someone.

The kiss stopped as soon as it started. Or that was what it felt like.

She looked confused at his pink cheeks and his own confused look.

Two seconds and he would move back and pretend that the moment never happened, she thought sadly.

Not sadly, she reassured herself, she didn't like him.

But to her surprise, he gave her a lopsided grin.

That was the first time he truly and freely smiled at her. She was awestruck.

"Woah, I leave you both for two minutes and you both are already making out in the streets."

Rose looked at the person who said this and she blushed heavily. She tried to scramble out of Daemon's arms but he was still holding her tightly and still staring at her.

"I think you guys should stop. You people are creating a scene," Uberto smirked.

Rose looked around, and sure enough everyone was looking at them. The couples were all smiling at them and some of them were clapping. The kids looked disgusted while the teenagers were wolf whistling at them

"Oh god, so embarrassing..." she muttered and hid her face.

"Yeah, so I guess it is time for you love birds to separate," Uberto said.

................................................................................................................................................................................

"I'm going to shower, ok? Don't barge in!" Rosalyn yelled and the entered the washroom. Daemon watched her with a small smile.

He quickly wiped the smile of his face when he realized what he was doing.

He was acting like a love sick puppy because of one girl.

He scowled and then went to get his laptop. S he took the laptop out of his bag, he saw the newest letter in his bag- the same letter that he had got the day when they were going to leave for Italy.

The problem that he had momentarily forgotten came back. His chest became heavy... what had he done?

He took out the letter and gulped.

Salutations Spencer,

We are more similar than we realize, right? Not counting our stubbornness and if I may flatter both of us, our great intellect. But this situation beats everything.

I saw her and she recognized me. It shows I'm a symbol of the past but she has not forgotten me and she never will. I know what you are trying to do- you are distracted from your case because of her, aren't you?

She is mine... you will not touch her. I am the one who is her future- you stay out of it or you will definitely regret it. Besides, you know women, don't you? A woman never forgets her first love... you have a great example in your own life.

Not believing me? She knows who I am... then who hasn't she told you who I am? If she didn't care, she would have told you... if you were more important to her.

So I am warning you... don't go near her.

Waiting to meet you again,

The Reaper

Daemon had been completely enraged when he first read the letter. How dare this disgusting creature decide who he loves and who he doesn't. No one dictates his life, absolutely no one.

But what if he did something to Rosalyn?

But then the killer did have a point... why hadn't she told him who the Reaper was? She had obviously seen him and that was the reason that she was so shaken. But she had seemed the fine the next day and yet she hadn't told him who he was.

Why was she hiding it from him?

But besides that, the Reaper knew him... he knew his family... he knew about his mother. He stared at the letter

A woman never forgets her first love... you have a great example in your own life.

Oh, Daemon knew about it very well. He shut his eyes tightly trying to forget it.

The Reaper was Rosalyn's first lover. He never even knew she used to love someone before, but then, then never did have heart to hearts before. The jealousy mixed with the intense feeling of betrayal. On one hand, he knew that the Reaper was trying to instill these feeling in him but on the other hand, who wouldn't feel all of it when what the Reaper said was completely true.

He looked at the closed washroom door where she was.

He was planning on ignoring her completely ill the case was over and he had caught the Reaper. He was planning on confronting her about everything after that. But seeing her over there, with her hair blown by the breeze and her eyes twinkling, he couldn't control himself.

He heart tightened. What was going to happen after this?

"OH! DAEMON!"

"Yes," Daemon asked to the closed washroom door.

"I forgot to ask you, did you question Uberto? He refused to tell me anything."

"Yes, I got what I needed from him," Daemon said as he switched his glance back to the letter in his hand.

"Oh...fine."

"Hmm..." Daemon nodded. Uberto had proved to be very useful. He had pointed out a very interesting fact that had changed the direction of the case.

Daemon looked back at the closed washroom door. Yes, he loved Rosalyn- he had accepted it. But he wasn't going to allow that love to be the same that his father had had for his mother. No, he wasn't going to act like a puppy.

He smiled to himself, oh Reaper- you are going to get what you asked for.

.....................................................................................................................................................................................

It had taken half an hour to stop Rosalyn from crying because she was leaving Uberto behind.

Half an hour of crying for a guy she met the day before. Stupid emotional woman.

Uberto had honestly looked a little frightened while Daemon had tried his maximum to get her to let go of the other man. Daemon hadn't gone and seen Unique's parents after that because he honestly had no idea what he was supposed to say.

During the entire plane ride, Rosalyn had fiddled with the head phones and watched horror movies, one after the other. He wasn't complaining either... he very much enjoyed his wife cuddling onto his shoulder.

Now that they were back at home, he could go back to concentrating about the case.

Rosalyn was upstairs calling her parents and everyone to tell that she had come back. She was joining back to school the next day. He would have to keep a close eye on her to make sure she doesn't fall into another disaster.

Daemon sighed and walked out of the house. He looked up at the sun and smiled. He was brought out of his thoughts when he noticed a letter on the foot step.

His heart felt very heavy and before he opened the letter itself he knew what would be waiting for him. Slowly, he took the letter and opened it.

You will regret it.
