Chapter 22- Trip to Italy

"Daemon!" Rose yelled loudly.

There was no reply from inside the house. Rose turned back to their visitors at the door and smiled sheepishly.

"I'm sorry, but you know how Daemon gets when he is PMSing," she said.

Daegon laughed loudly while Dennis looked amused.

"Come in anyway. I'm sure you both can stay a while before we leave for the airport," Rose said as she led the two men inside the house. She went to close the front door when she saw the postman with a letter.

In her chest, she knew what it was and boldly, she went forward.

"Hey!" the postman greeted her enthusiastically.

Rose forced a smile on her face and said, "Hello, is that letter for us."

"Yes, for a Mr. Daemon Spencer," the man said looking at the letter.

"Thanks," Rose said as she snatched the letter from him. Before he could respond she said, "I'll make sure he gets it."

With that, she ran inside and locked the door behind her. She went back to the kitchen to see Dennis stretch on the chair and Daegon making himself comfortable with the food.

Rose rolled her eyes and yelled again, "DAEMON! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?"

"Oh god, my ears," Daegon moaned.

"What do you want now, woman?" Daemon asked as he stormed down the staircase. He was again in only a towel.

Rose averted her glance from her half naked husband who didn't seem the least bothered about his lack of clothing to Dennis. Dennis smirked at her and shook his head.

"Why are you always raiding my refrigerator when you come into my house?" Daemon asked angrily to Daegon.

"Why are you always soap covered in a towel when I come here?" Daegon retorted. Daemon turned slightly pink.

"We have a flight in 3 hours," Daemon said tightly.

"Oh come on Daemon, it will only take a while," Rose said rolling her eyes, "and we don't even need to leave until an hour."

"Yeah, whatever," Daemon muttered, to both Dennis' and Daegon's shock and he started walking back upstairs, presumably to the washroom where he was bathing.

"Hey, wait up," Rose said and jogged towards him. Ignoring his curious look, she pushed the letter into his soapy hands.

He looked for a second alarmed at the letter and then looked at her.

"You didn't open it ?" he whispered to her.

"No, I mean it is none of my business," she said.

He smiled for a second at her and caught himself when he realized what he was doing. He nodded without any expression and walked away.

She shook her head and wondered exactly what she was supposed to do.

"What the hell just happened here?" Daegon asked with an astonished expression.
................................................................................................................................................

When Daemon came down, he was incredibly pale and looked very worried. Rose looked at concerned when she was setting the table for breakfast.

"So how is the new case, son?" Dennis asked as he sipped his coffee.

Daemon shrugged carelessly but didn't say anything.

Daegon, who seemed to have even acquired Daemon's gentlemanly skills, was helping Rose with breakfast.

"I can't believe he is taking you also with him for his case," Daegon said to Rose when they both were in the kitchen, "he rarely talked anyone except Aiden, and he hates that also."

Rose inhaled sharply when she heard Aiden's name.

"Can you tell me more about this Aiden?" Rose asked trying to sound nonchalant.

"Why? Jealous that your husband's attention might go elsewhere?" Daegon asked with a laugh. Rose rolled her eyes.

"I just want to know. It seems the guy went for some family thing and Daemon seems really concerned about him."

"Daemon? Concerned?" Daegon asked jokingly, "what did you do to my brother?"

"Don't be mean Daegon," Rose reprimanded him, "Your brother also has emotions, you know."

"Yeah, I know that," Daegon said with a laugh as he flipped the pancakes, "but he rarely shows them. In fact I have even doubted that he had any emotions."

"He doesn't show emotions?" Rose asked confused, "but around me, he does show his emotions ranging from anger to mocking."

She remembered the day when he was very concerned with her well being and had fussed around her. She smiled to herself and looked down.

"Why?" Daegon asked amused, "Has he shown you any other emotions?"

Rose looked confused at him and then realized what he had said.

She hit his hand and said, "Such an idiot you are. I wasn't talking about that."

"Sure, you weren't," Daegon said with a smirk. Then he seemed to sober up and said, "Listen Rose, my brother does have his moments of positivity but don't expect too much, ok? It will only be a couple of minutes before he turns back into the mean bastard that he is."

"You do know that both your father is sitting outside right?" Rose asked trying to ignore the heavy feeling in her heart. She knew it, but why was she so disappointed?

Daegon didn't seem to notice her glum expression and said, "Yeah. But anyway about Aiden, I don't know the dude because Daemon was never interested in mixing his personal life with his work affairs. He made sure of that. All I know is that in the office, Aiden was the only one who could remotely control my brother."

Rose nodded absentmindedly and then smiled at Daegon.

"WHERE THE HELL IS MY FOOD?!"

"Your brother is impatient," Rose said dryly.

"Nah, he is just jealous," Daegon winked.

After they had set breakfast on the table and started eating, Rose noticed the glares that Daemon was sending her.

"What now?" she mouthed to him. He shrugged angrily and then turned away.

Idiot.

She kicked him under the table and he again glared at her.

"What was in the letter?" she mouthed to him. He mouthed back something to her but she got the gist that it had something to do with asking her to mind her own business.

She again kicked him under the table.

"You know, if you both want to play footsie, we both will go out?" Daegon asked amused. Dennis also grinned at us.

"We weren't playing footsie," Rose muttered and then looked at Daemon who had turned his glare to his brother.

"Can you both go out? We need to leave," he said rudely.

"Daemon!" Rose said shocked, "Don't talk like that to your father and brother."

He again looked down and muttered, "Yeah, whatever."

Daegon's jaw dropped.

"Did you just agree with her?" Dennis stammered in disbelief.

"So what?" Daemon said rudely as he got up, "It's like I'm the only bad person here- even she is a bitch."

With that he stormed outside.

Dennis and Daegon still looked in disbelief.

"He is just upset that you both thought that he was acting decently. Besides, if he does something good, soon he will do something that ruins it all," Rose commented as she got up and took the empty plates.

Daegon was still staring at the door through which Daemon had left in disbelief.

"Are you sure you didn't drug him?" he murmured.

..................................................................................................................................................

After Dennis and Daegon had left, Daemon had dragged Rose and the luggages outside. Throughout the plane ride, he was on his mobile texting and then checking the files. He hadn't even said one word to her and even had the audacity to shut the glass door on her face.

Her nose was now bruised.

She was currently scowling at the busy Daemon who completely ignoring. He had hired them a taxi when she was dragging both her luggages. He had completely ignored the fact the fact that she hadn't got into the taxi and he had told the driver to start the car.

For 10 minutes she had to run behind the taxi, yelling loudly, until she caught the taxi driver's attention and he stopped the car.

It was not only the taxi driver's attention which she had caught, everyone in the nearby vicinity was staring at her like she was mad. Everyone, except Daemon, who hadn't even looked up from his phone when she entered the taxi.

Rose had got very angry and wanted to punch him but the driver was watching them confused.

Rose continued glaring at her husband till the taxi reached the hotel. After the driver left the car to take their luggages, she turned to her husband with an ugly scowl.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT YOU BUFFOON?"

Daemon didn't even glance at her. She punched his shoulder hard and he winced and looked at her.

"What do you want, woman?"

Rose noted that he had switched back to calling her woman.

"YOU LEFT ME RUNNING BEHIND THE CAR LIKE SOME KIND OF MANIAC!"

Daemon didn't bother responding to her. He just rolled his eyes and turned back to his mobile.

"CAN YOU AT LEAST GIVE ME A DECENT REPLY?"

Daemon sighed to himself and turned to her angrily.

"Look here, woman. I may have been kind and sweet to you but that was just my emotions coming into play. I hate you just as much as I did before. I was guilty that you could have died but now I am over it, so could you please stop yelling in my ear. You are giving me a headache."

Without waiting for a response from her, he opened the car door and shut it before she could get out.

She ignored the ache in her chest as she watched him walk away.

They were both back to square one.

...............................................................................................................................................................

Rose stretched on the bed and glared at the bathroom door. That git was taking an hour in the washroom and hadn't even allowed her to use it once.

After running behind him from the hotel lobby to the room, in case he again left her, he had quickly taken a towel and got inside the washroom.

He still wasn't out.

Rose groaned to herself and lay back again.

She was the one who told him she wouldn't pay any attention to him and he turned the situation so that he was the one ignoring her. She definitely wasn't going to let him get away with it again.

She stiffened when she heard the bathroom lock open and watched Daemon get out in just a towel.

He had bathed in the morning and he bathed again. Stupid clean freak..

She scowled at him, not that he noticed, and took her spare clothes and locked herself in the washroom. After 15 minutes of bathing, she got out and saw Daemon fast asleep on the bed.

She sighed and forgot her anger when she saw his peaceful face. She started walked towards him but tripped on something. She looked down and her anger returned full fledged when she saw a pillow and a blanket on the ground.

He wanted her to sleep on the floor?

She scowled at him and thought of pushing him to the ground but stopped herself.

"It may be because you're too needy..."

She scowled at the back of his head again and then went back to toweling her hair. After sorting out her rubbish, she lay the sheets on the floor and lay down. She shivered at the immense cold  and had half a mind to get up and lie down with him.

But her pride stopped her. She didn't need him to fend for herself.

She turned off the lamp and lay back. Ignoring the cold, she shut her eyes and willed herself to fall asleep.

..............................................................................................................................................

SPLASH!

"WHAT THE FUCK?!" yelled Rose as she got up from the floor. Once she got up she noticed three things.

1. Her back was as stiff as a rod.

2. Daemon was standing in front of her with an empty bucket.

3. She was completely wet and cold.

"YOU STUPID, FU..."

"I don't have the time for your rubbish," Daemon said rolling his eyes as he checked his watch like he hadn't just poured a bucket full of ice cold water on someone, "I'm going out and I won't be here most of the time. You can go wherever you want but be at the airport after 2 days at 6:00 in the morning. And if you are not there, I will fly back to US without you."

Without waiting for her response, he walked out of the room and shut the door behind him. Rose blinked at the shut door, not sure if she was dreaming or not.

The feeling of immense coldness came back to her and she shuddered violently.

That stupid, idiotic connard.

She ignored her emotional turmoil and squeezed the water from her hair. She couldn't believe that fils de pute.

He was bipolar, there was absolutely no other explanation. A man couldn't change like this in a day, could he?

She blinked back the tears in her eyes and scowled. Why was she upset? It wasn't like he meant anything to her.

She had been about to ask him about the letter, but now he could go fuck himself. He could go and try and solve the mystery on his own without her help.

He thought that the killer wanted him, oh, how sorely mistaken he was. The killer wanted her and Daemon would get nothing done without her.

He could go and walk in circles like last time while she did the actual work.

She got up determined but forgot the water that was on the floor. When she took her next step, she slipped and fell back harshly on the ground and her head hit the edge of the bed.

"Ouch," Rose muttered to herself.

............................................................................................................................................................

"I am here to see Mr. Salazzo," Daemon said rudely to the the receptionist.

The woman jumped in her seat when she heard his voice and quickly checked the computer.

"Yes, the man who got admitted on the 24th due to a serious case of heart attack. Yes sir, he is on the 3rd floor, room 314."

Daemon didn't bother replying and stormed towards the lift. He scowled at the couple who was next to him. He even scowled at the small baby in the mother's hands and caused the child to hysterically burst into tears.

Daemon grinned to himself. Yes, he hadn't lost his touch.

He was interrupted from his thoughts when his mobile rang and he saw that it was an international call. Knowing that he had only given his new number to people related to the case, he attended the call.

"Who is this?" he asked without waiting for pleasantries.

"Sir, it is Deandra. We have a problem."

"Miss. Stu... whatever. What did you do now?" Daemon asked annoyed as the left opened and the couple got in. He scowled at them once more and then walked towards the direction of the staircase.

"Sir, if you can't remember my sir name, why don't you just call me Deandra?"

"If your name is the problem here, then cut the line and don't call me till you have something valuable to say," Daemon said sharply.

"Rude bastard..."

"What?" Daemon asked.

"Nothing sir. Anyway, Ginevra Pierce is 32 years old..."

"32?" Daemon asked.

"Yeah. She is working in a company called Pearson and Co. as sales manager. She is Irish, brunette, dark... almost black eyes... and she is an orphan."

"I'm not seeing the problem right now," Daemon said impatiently as he stomped up the stairs.

"Well, I telephoned the company..."

"Telephoned? TELEPHONED? You useless girl, can you please go by yourself and ask?" Daemon asked angrily.

"Sir, if you let me speak... I telephoned to get an appointment with the head so that I will know more about her. But the receptionist was her friend and told me that the girl had been living in Chicago till she came here to New York," Deandra stated.

"Oh fuck..." Daemon swore, "that means she isn't a foreigner. Which means the only clue we had till now is blown up. Great, just great..."

"Maybe the killer has something else in mind when he killed these women, sir. I don't know..." Deandra said slowly so as not to anger him.

"Yeah whatever," Daemon said as he walked toward the room 314, "Anyway go there and get more details on the victim. I'm a little busy right now."

Without waiting for her reply, he cut the line and stared up at the room number.

If this wasn't going to lead to anything, he was going to get very angry. He let out the breath he was holding and went to knock the door but stopped himself.

He was Daemon Spencer, he wasn't one for courtesy.

Keeping that in mind, with a smirk on his face he opened the door and strolled inside like he owned the place.

Ignoring the shocked expression on the face of the occupants he drawled.

"I am Detective Spencer and I am here to investigate the case of your dead daughter."

AN:

There you go, long chap. 2750 words, that is a record for me. I'll try writing longer chapters now onwards anyway.

So, I guess everyone is back to hating Daemon's guts or do you all just find his attitude amusing.

Well poor Rose.

Anyway, do vote comment and like while I go back to my studies.

Until, next time.
