Chapter 20- The Reaper

The next day went the same like before. Daemon seemed to have come back to his senses and wasn't overly sweet again.

In fact he made sure that he insulted her at least twice an hour so that she wouldn't think that he was going soft.

But to her surprise, he never crossed the line and even asked her if she was feeling ok and even insisted on cooking for them.

Rose looked up at the clock as she packed up the last of her assignments. It was past noon. Daemon had said that he was going in search of Aiden. He hadn't commented much on it but she could see the immense worry on his face. Aiden must be someone who was very important to him.

She ignored the heavy feeling in her chest.

She was getting that bad feeling... the feeling like Aiden was in big trouble...

She tried blocking out the events from last night but she was only successful for so long.

"Hey love, care to join us..." the cloaked figure asked very casually with a hint of a smirk in his voice.

The woman he was holding looked completely terrified.

"Run away," she yelled trying to get her breath, "he is mad... completely crazy. Go away or he will kill you."

"Nah, nah, nah..." the cloaked figure, who Rose had figured out was a man, said, "you shouldn't speak ill about me in front of our guest. Besides, I was expecting her... and why would I ever hurt our special guest."

The stress on the word 'ever' sent shivers down her spine.

"Let her go..." Rose said bravely to the man even though she was quivering in fright inside. What did he mean by he was expecting her?

"Why don't you come here and make me?" he said tauntingly to her. Never having backed out from a challenge and she had a feeling that even if she stayed still or went to him, what would happen to her would remain the same.

Besides, her conscience would never let her leave a woman in the hands of the devil.

The devil... like the grim reaper...the reaper...

"You're the reaper, aren't you?" she asked frightened. Here, she was standing in front of the man who Daemon had been trying so hard to find.

Even thinking about Daemon didn't hurt that much like before... because she knew that something bigger was about to happen.

The man threw his head back and laughed loudly, scaring both her and the woman. The woman's whimpers became louder.

"I knew you would find it from him... you were always a feisty little thing, weren't you?" he said amused.

"How do you know me?" Rose said terrified. Then she looked at the woman who was trying to catch her breath.

Knowing that she had the Reaper's attention, she did something that was both brave and incredibly stupid.

With a war cry that she had admired in movies, she barreled forward and threw herself on the man. He was too caught up laughing to realize that she had tried to knock the wind out of him.

The woman got out of his grasp and moved away and watched Rose with frightened eyes.

"Go...go..." Rose yelled as she tried to hold the man to the ground.

"I can't leave you here with him... I can't..." she said with tears in her eyes. Rose smiled at her sadly. She had thought that the woman would run away like most of the people she knew... but this woman had cared about her...

"Please go... I can hold him..." Rose pleaded.

"Well, I don't think so..." said the figure as he abruptly pushed Rose off him and flashed to the woman. Rose felt her head hit the stone ground and her head swam.

She heard a loud scream and she turned to see the figure cut off the woman's head. She gasped loudly as the blood sprinkled on her face.

Rose screamed hysterically and crawled towards the dead, beheaded woman and sobbed loudly at the sight of her.

"You killed her... oh my god... you killed her..." Rose sobbed hysterically as her chest throbbed with fright. She turned back to the amused killer. The cloak completely covered his entire body and face, except for his mouth that was twisted into a cruel smirk.

"You monster..." she sobbed. The man's expression changed immediately to one of anger and he pounced forward.

Rose yelled loudly as he pulled her up by her hair and slammed her head onto the stone wall.

"You stupid little girl...how dare you call me such words..." he said angrily, "who gave you the right..."

"You're a disgusting monster..." Rose yelled and then she did something that she never thought she would ever do to someone. She spat at his face.

She watched with horror as he became more enraged. What had she done?

The man raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face. Her head hit the wall again and she could feel the blood pump. She started whimpering in fright but then realized something. The man would anyway kill her, no matter what she did. And she definitely wasn't going down without a fight.

"Fuck you, you pathetic, cruel creature," she spat at him. She tilted her head expecting on more slap but raised her head in surprise when he started laughing at her.

"I almost forgot how feisty you were. This is why I like you, not even one person I have killed have ever faced me so bravely... always begging for their lives. Now that is very pathetic... but you would never stoop to that level, will you, gorgeous?" he asked and kissed the corner of her lips gently.

"Who the hell are you?" she asked trembling, " and how do you know me?"

"Now I am very insulted, love. Don't you recognize me... don't you recognize my voice...angel," he whispered into her ear.

She breathed deeply and looked even more scared. That nickname...angel... only one person had ever called her that...

"You...you..." she stammered.

He laughed again and said, "Now, now angel...you recognize me. I'm very disappointed, I expected you to know me when you saw me itself. But guess, not everyone gets what they want."

That statement made her immediately think of Daemon. Even when she was pushed onto the wall by a murderer and a disaster from her past, she could never stop thinking about him. Even after what he did to her.

"Let go of me now," she snarled, feeling all the fright leaving her. Who the hell did he think he was?

"Oh I get it..." he said slowly," you're married now, aren't you? I'm disappointed..."

"You were dead... you were supposed to be dead..." she stammered.

"Well, I am the devil himself, am I not? I'm sure the devil can resurrect himself..." he said slowly into her ears.

Devil... the nickname that once she used to call him...

"We were over a long time ago... what are you doing here?" she said angrily. Then a thought struck her.

"Are you doing all this because of me?"

He laughed again, "You always did think very highly of yourself. I will let you think over that. Hmm... I'm supposed to let you go, but now that I have you in my arms..."

"Let go you disgusting creature..." she yelled and tried hitting him. He swiftly caught her hand and twisted it. She yelped in pain.

"Aah...don't anger me angel. You have no idea how angry I get at the fact that you call him demon..." he said in a terrifyingly soft voice.

"What do you mean?" she said with her eyes wide.

"He thinks you are insulting him but I know the endearment behind that. If you tell him about this meeting..."

"You will what? Kill me?" she scoffed.

"No, angel. But I will kill him."

She went still and started panicking again.

"You're jealous," she said softly, "but you know that I will never be yours again. I'm his...and you know it."

The man lost his temper completely and banged her head again. It went completely dark after that.

She shook out of her stupor. She ran a hand through her hair and sighed.

He was back... he was back again.

She still didn't understand how she was alive. After that episode of trying to flatten her skull, when she woke up, she had been surrounded by the police.

There was no stopping him when he wanted something. But what did he want now...

And what would he do to her if he ever got her in his hands again? She shivered slightly and looked out of the window. He could be anywhere... absolutely anywhere.

And she could do nothing about it.

And then there was Daemon. She wouldn't let anything happen to him, ever. She had to distract him...if he ever got near to the Reaper then...

She had to do something. And something fast.
