Chapter 12- Truth and fear.

Rose clutched onto Jace as she cried into his chest. Jace was silently comforting her by drawing circles on her back soothingly. Alec was a whole new story.

"Is she okay?"

"Do you think she had a mental breakdown?"

"Is it because she doesn't like pepsi? Should we have bought mountain dew instead?"

Rose pulled out of Jace's embrace and started wiping her tears away. Thank god she wore water proof mascara

She was highly embarrassed, especially when she saw that she had every single person's attention.

Alec noticed her worries and immediately said, "Woah people, shoo off. Or do you want me to make you all cry and hug Jace like that?"

Rose didn't know whether to feel better or even more embarrassed.

"Alec, shut up," Jace whispered loudly. Alec thankfully shut his mouth but looked down worried at her.

"Don't you want to watch the movie?" Alec asked. Rose looked at him and said, "No, it's okay. I just need to tell you guys something."

"You can tell us anything love," Jace said soothingly. His arm was around her waist.

"But you will also hate me," she whispered.

"Impossible," Alec declared loudly. That again caught a few people's attention.

"I think we should get out of here before the idiot starts sprouting more rubbish," Jace muttered and guided her towards the exit.

"I'll bring the drinks also. Pepsi and tears sounds perfect to me," Alec said.

Rose rolled her eyes.

..................................................................................................................................................................................

"I wasted your money," Rose whispered. The three were sitting at a deserted alley.

"It's okay. I heard the movie sucked anyway," Alec commented.

"But it just released now," Rose said questioningly.

"Well, since we didn't watch it, it definitely sucked," Alec said sounding so sure of himself. Jace was giving him a glare obviously warning him to shut up.

"Okay sweetheart, now you have to tell us what is wrong," Jace said softly. Rose looked up at him and blushed. He reminded her of Daegon for some reason. They were both sweet and charming.

Unlike a certain person with blue eyes and demonic character. That caused another round of tears.

"Don't cry...don't cry..." Jace said soothingly as Alec said the same thing in a more panicked form.

With this short experience, she found out two things. One- Jace was more calm and knew how to deal with things.

Two- If anyone wanted anything from Alec, all they had to do was cry. He might probably start crying along with them.

Rose took a deep breath and showed them her finger.

The diamond glowed even in the dark.

Alec blinked once. Then he again blinked. Jace just stared at it with a pensive expression.

After a minute's silence, Jace said, "I always knew that Rose Green sounded a bit too weird."

Rose smiled slightly and turned to Alec who, to her surprise, was still blinking.

"Alec, are you okay?"

"Why did you lie to us?" Alec said softly. This was the reaction she had feared.

"I...I..."

"Alec..." Jace said warningly.

"She lied to us, Jake. Can't you see it? How can we trust her?"

As if on cue, Rose again burst into tears. She had lost track of the number of times she cried.

"There, see what you did?" Jace said angrily.

Alec muttered something incoherent and pulled her towards him. He wrapped his arm around her waist.

"Don't cry because of me. I'm just a bit pissed, that is all," Alec muttered into her hair.

"Oh, I think he is just a little jealous that someone is already taken," Jace said slyly.

"I am not taken," Rose declared and sat straight.

After a moment's silence, Alec said, "I never knew girls' like you wore rings like that for fashion sake? Especially with someone else's name engraved on it?"

"We are married...by name only. He has got a very moody character," Rose said softly looking away from their eyes. Jace slowly massaged her arm.

Alec looked uncomfortably from Jace to Rose. Then he cleared his throat.

"Well, even if my name was something like Green Algae, I would be a little pissed," Alec stated.

Jace snorted and then covered his mouth. Rose didn't look impressed.

"Oh, cut out on the Green jokes. That was the first name that popped into my head," Rose said.

There was silence till she spoke again, "Rose Green does sound stupid."

"Who is he?" Jace asked at last. Rose smiled sarcastically, "Detective Daemon Spencer, the guy who is investigating the new murder case in town."

There was silence.

"Well, he is good looking?" Jace offered unsurely.

"And I have always doubted your gender preferences," Alec said moodily looking at Jace.

"Isn't he taking care of you? Does he hurt you?" Jace asked her. Rose's mind flashed back to what happened earlier. He had hurt her but she had asked for it.

Rose chuckled sadly. The tears were making an appearance again.

"He just...he just ignores me and I ignore him but at times it hurts. I hate him but I don't hate him. I never wanted to marry him but now that we have, I wish...I wish we could be a normal couple. I wish he would kiss me before going to work...I wish..." Rose said softly and buried her head again in Jace's chest.

"It's okay...it's okay..." Jace muttered soothingly.

"Yeah, if you want Jace and I will take turns to kiss you before going to work," Alec said brightly.

Rose looked doubtfully at Alec while Jace voiced what was going on in her head.

"Alec, are you sure you're ok?" Jace asked.

"Why do you ask?"

"No, I've wanted to ask you that for a long time..." Jace muttered. Rose giggled and the men smiled and hi 5ed.

"So, I'll do the summarying," Alec said enthusiastically.

"Is summarying even a word?" Rose asked quietly.

"No..." Jace replied.

"So basically the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes upon is married to a detective jerk who ignores her and this beautiful woman is hence upset because she wouldn't be able to completely enjoy the presence of Yours Truly..."

"Everything except the last bit," Rose said, "and I pissed him off real bad today."

"Why? What did you do?" Alec asked. Rose stared into his grey eyes...they looked silver. Her gut feeling told her not to tell them the entire truth. She had to earn Daemon's trust and first thing would be to make him believe that she could keep his secrets.

"I just nosed into his case files and he found out. He was really angry..." Rose said looking down at her hands.

The boys seemed to eat it up.

"Don't worry now on wards. We both will be here for you instead of him," Alec said with a smile.

"Yeah," Jace said, "as much as Alec is an idiot, I am with him on that."

Fuming would not even begin to describe the feeling. How dare she nose into his business? She actually got access to his letter. The letter that no one else but he knew.

Daemon closed his eyes and leaned back on to his chair. He eyed the crumbled edge of the table cloth. She might be smart but he was smarter. Being a detective meant he had to look out for the smallest of clues.

Being too nosy for her own good she must not have realized that she was holding on to the table cloth too tightly, he thought dryly.

He ran his hand through his hair and blew out a frustrated sigh.

He knew women. They were weak and depended on men for what they needed. But no, his wife wouldn't be like that. She just had to defy all rules.

Not that he ever considered her as a woman. He wouldn't be very surprised if she was hiding an extra appendage in her pants.

She was that unpredictable. But it would be a little hard to explain that to his father...

She must be scared, he thought, scared out of her wits. He himself was, he had been terrified when he got the letter. He never showed it out but.

How must she be feeling? Though, she did deserve what she got. Reckless woman.

He banged his hand hard on the table. After  the harsh impact, he winced at the expected pain.

He looked out of the window and it was dark already. Probably 8.

He couldn't help the gnawing feeling in his chest.

He was terrified for her.
