Chapter 26: Reflection

Finale

Finn's POV

After a year full of craziness, with the start of the year with Oliver befriending me... just to ask my help courting my best friend. With all the times that I had to sacrifice my own sanity and happiness for my best friend, with all the times that urged me to just drop the both of them, with all the guilt that came with being with Oliver and with all the crazy blonde bitches named Bella in my way, and that shitty car crash that cost us a lot of money... this particular day was gonna be the end of it all.

Today was the last day of school, and as usual, we didn't have anything to do. I didn't want to go but Heather convinced me once again. And I'm sure that Oliver wouldn't like it if I didn't go.

I threw on one of Oliver's sweatshirt that he left in my possession. I ran my fingers through my hair, put on some jeans and called it a day.

I went down stairs to find my dad sitting on one of the island chairs, a coffee mug on his hand as he clicked away on his laptop- as usual.

"Good Morning, Dad." I greeted sleepily as I slid in the chair beside him.

"Good Morning... my sperm."

I stared at my dad with furrowed brows while he failed to contain his laughter over his own joke.

"Sorry. It's been a while since I've said that." He said as he finally was able to control his laughter.

I sipped from my cup and started preparing myself a bowl of cereal.

"Ah ah, no, stop that, Finn. I'll make you your food for today. You know, since it's the last day of school." My mom interrupted me, grabbing the bowl from my hands.

"Oh, sure. Thank you." I said and sat back on my chair.

I noticed the constant hammering outside of our house which reminded me of something. "I can't believe how long all that renovating is taking, my broken arm's almost healed."

"I know, but it's all for the sake of the house and for our safety." My dad said.

"That's true." I said.

If you're wondering what happened after the crash, it's been almost four week since it happened and we've been renovating the porch that was completely destroyed. Oh and also, we managed to catch the guy who was the root of all the problems and oh what a surprise, it was my mom's abusive ex who was also the one asking her for money and I guess this was his 'revenge'. Needless to say, he'll be rotting in prison for all the shit he's caused. The downside to him being caught, my mom's been awfully guilty and now she's trying to 'make up' for it when none of it was even her fault. But I'll gladly forget all of those that happened and move on, I'm alright, my family is alright, my friends are alright, nothing else matters other than that.

As time passed, I looked out the window with a sigh. It was a beautiful morning and it was one of those days where you could just tell that it was gonna be a good day. The sun was out, kids were playing outside, the group chat where Jason, Oliver, Heather and I were pinging from notifications, mostly from Heather and Jason being noisy.

"Well look who's happy today, why are you smiling?" My dad said which woke me out of my trance.

I didn't even realize that I had been smiling just out of the blue.

"Oh, nothing. Just... think it's gonna be a good day. I mean, hopefully it'll be."

"Uhuh, what makes you think that?"

I shrugged wordlessly just as my mom finished with my food and presented me eggs and bacon on a plate.

"Thank you." I said and I immediately started eating.

After a few minutes, a knock on the front door grabbed everyone's attention.

"I'll go get it." My mom said and disappeared around the corner.

I could hear a guy's voice and my mom's cheerful ones, obviously. I heard the door close and the sound of footsteps approaching the room. My back was facing the entrance of the kitchen so I couldn't see who was gonna enter the kitchen.

Imagine the shock in my body when a hand covered my hands.

"Guess who?"

I immediately recognized this person's smell and I smiled.

"Heather, I can literally recognize your fruity perfume from a mile away." I joked.

"Dang it." A hand uncovered my eyes and I expected only for Heather to be there but I totally did not expect Jason and Oliver there.

My eyes widened in surprise. "Oh." I sounded out.

"Wait, Finn why are you wearing my shirt and how did you even get it?" Jason pointed at the piece of clothing I was wearing.

I looked at him in confusion. "Wait what? But I thought this is Oliver's shirt?"

Oliver smiled sheepishly. "Well, that is Jason's shirt that he lent me, I just forgot to return it."

"And... you gave it to me?" I said with my eyebrows raised in question.

He nodded.

"It's fine, you can keep it, you look good in it." Jason reassured.

I thanked him before taking a bite out of my food.

"Good Morning, Mr. Vasco. I hope you don't mind us stopping by." Jason excused politely.

My dad cleared his throat with a shake of his head. "Oh, no, of course I don't mind. Grab yourself a plate of food."

"I'm on it." My mom said before making them a plate.

Oliver sat beside me and gave my cheek a kiss. "Good Morning Finn. I hope you're fine with us around."

"Yeah... Was that why the group chat was so loud?"

He smiled sheepishly again. "Yeah... That was my fault. I wanted to pick you up early and I suggested they came along."

Jason, Heather and my mom sat down on the dinner table and started on a conversation while my dad, Oliver and I were seated together on the kitchen island.

As Oliver and I started eating, my dad leaned on the table, adjusting his glasses and clearing his throat.

"Listen you two, especially you Oliver. I wanna apologize for being so strict and keeping you two from each other at the start, it's just that I didn't trust Oliver at the start. I didn't want Finn to be hurt. But you've proven me wrong over and over again. I'm so glad you found someone like Oliver, Finn." He smiled at me as he finished and his eyes flitted from me to Oli. "While you. You're lucky you're with my son... Make him feel the same. I know I've said it before and I'll continue saying it. Don't break his heart."

"I won't." Oliver swore.

My dad simply nodded like they exchanged more words than I heard. And then Oliver returned to eating. Funny how they said all that like I wasn't literally there beside them, hearing what they had to say about me.

"Uh, thank you. I definitely didn't hear any of those." I said sarcastically.

My dad just rolled his eyes while Oliver laughed.

And everything went fine after.

. . .

The four of us made it to school safe and sound.

Oliver held my hand as we walked through the quad where people were happily hanging out on, on benches, the grass itself. They were either reading a book, joking and laughing with each other, listening to music or thanking the world that this stressful year was over.

Oliver and I immediately got stares from people, well it was mostly just for him and his beauty, I mean who would look at me.

Oh, by the way, the Daily Lancaster News had a field day on dragging Bella's name through the mud. And as days passed after her little moment in the gala, her reputation points on the board continued to decrease. She's in the 4th spot now while Oliver and I sat at the top. I know I said I never cared about that chart but there was something about it that was entertaining, I think it was just the fact that I pissed Bella off more the higher I rose on it. But needless to say, everything was over now, Bella didn't pull anything more after the gala, and I'm fine with not appearing on the chart anymore.

Today was just pointless since the school shortened the school day to only three hours since there were no classes left, it's literally just to say goodbye to our friends or whatever or pass projects that were overdue. Oliver and I could literally just hang out every time.

We passed by the benches on the side of the school where Bella and her minions usually hung out and just as I expected, Bella, Mia and Talia were there surrounded by some of Oliver's football team mates.

"UGH, could you make yourself useful? I'm literally about to smack you!" Bella's annoying and shrill voice echoed through the grounds as she scolded Talia.

"Bella- you're making a scene, people are... people are making fun of- hey!" Talia stopped as one of the guys grabbed her sunglasses as a joke.

As they were pulled into another mess, Bella's eyes landed on me and, oh my God, the look on her face and how her face went so red, will be in my memories for the rest of my life.

"YOU!" She simply pointed at me and thankfully, she didn't move to attack me.

"Yes, me. The guy who beat you at basically everything." I responded sarcastically, fueling her anger even more.

"AHHHHHH!" She screamed out in frustration.

Mia, whose face was covered in red powder huffed tiredly. "Finn, please. Seeing you makes her worse. Could you maybe hide, like, forever?"

"No. How about you two leave her for the trash she is, she doesn't deserve people like you." I suggested instead.

"I can't do that. Bella's helped me with so much, I..." Talia trailed off.

I crossed my arms as I looked at Oliver and he just nodded encouragingly which made me sigh.

"She also treats you like garbage, it's a lost cause."

Talia was about to respond when Bella shrieked once again. "WHERE IS TALIA. MY SHOES ARE WET." She screamed out.

Talia grimaced before turning away from us and going back to Bella to, once again, slave for her. I rolled my eyes and hooked my arm around Oliver's to lead him out of that mess.

Oliver pat his pockets and the look of realization settled on his face. "Wait, I almost forgot to retrieve something from one of my teammates, I'll be right back, Finn." He excused himself to which I nodded before he ran towards the football field.

I crossed my arms across my chest and waited patiently for him to come back when I felt an arm swing over my shoulder, startling me.

I turned my head towards the person and I was about to greet whoever it was- I mean, it must be someone I know right? But I was more than shocked to see Chad there, smirking smugly.

"Uh, what are you doing?" I asked in confusion as I started to subtly remove his arms around me but to no avail.

"What, I can't do this to my friend now?"

"We both know I'm no 'friend' of yours. Now, get your arm around me please, your big bicep is crushing me and I have a broken arm." I said with a slight struggle and with severe amount of it, I was able to get his arm off of my shoulder.

I did not expect to hear a laugh come from him. "Okay, fine. Truly though, now I've proven you're not just playing Oliver, I'm really trying to... bear you."

"You're weird, you know? Didn't you beat me up three times this year alone? The reason why I go to the nurse is always you."

His smile faded almost as fast as it came, he fiddled at a loose thread on his shirt before looking back at me again.

"Yeah... that was my bad. But I guess I picked on you because I was insecure and that's on me... so, I'm sorry, I guess." He apologized very convincingly and I hope you caught my sarcasm there.

"No offense, but what could you possibly be insecure about? You're literally built like a Greek God." I asked in confusion.

He sheepishly scratched his forearm. "A lot of things. Anyway... Ugh, I can't believe I'm even saying this to you... but I'll make it up to you for all the shitty stuff I did... I... I promise."

The way he spoke irked something in me, he said all of that with so much hesitance, shyness and struggle to the point it made me question if it was even genuine but then entirely deciding against calling him out on it. I mean, what more could I get from a guy who literally made my life a living hell in this school?

I sighed. "Sure, you would. You have the whole summer and next year to do so before we graduate. Ooh, just imagine all the gifts you'll be giving me, all the foods you'll be treating me. It almost makes me feel like all those beating up were worth it." I joked but it seemed like he didn't find it equally amusing at all from the way he glared at me. "Okay, sorry. I'm accepting your olive branch is what I'm trying to say.

Before he could say anything back, someone called out my name and I turned around to find Oliver running back towards us.

"What are you doing here, Chad? Don't tell me you're bothering Finn again?" Oliver asked skeptically.

"No, I already told you, Oliver, I've changed, I'm trying to apologize." Chad said sheepishly.

"Emphasize on 'trying'." I joked.

Chad rolled his eyes in annoyance. "I'm just gonna return to the field." He said but he had only taken a few steps when he bumped into a guy who was wearing glasses.

This caused the guy to crash to the ground while his bag that was open had his stuff spilling out.

"Oh I'm..." Chad trailed off as he helped the guy stand up, picking up his glasses that he dropped and his bag and returning it to the guy.

"Sorry..." The guy who was evidently shorter than Chad muttered.

"No, no, it's..." Chad trailed off once again. He then looked around and noticed that people were watching him before he turned back to the boy and casting him a withering glare. "You need to watch we're you're going... nerd." Chad spitted out aggressively, leaving the scene with a huff.

"Hey. You okay, buddy?" I asked the guy before he could leave.

"Um, yeah! Thanks for asking." He said to which I gave him a smile but instead of leaving, he fiddled on the strap of his bag. "By the way, uh, random question... Is Chad always like that?"

"Like an asshole? Well, he used to be but he keeps saying he's 'changed'." I told him to which he chuckled.

"Heh. That's good to know. Well, I've got to go!" He said enthusiastically but before he could go, I said the thing I knew he was waiting to hear.

"Oh, by the way. Chad is single." I winked at him which caused him to blush.

"Oh, uh, good to know!" He stuttered out then hurrying away.

Oliver looked at me suggestively, saying so much with just one glance before laughing and I couldn't help but join him.

We started walking through the halls of the school and Oliver even suggested on saying goodbye to Mrs. Ponds and thanking her for her service. Talk about charming.

I wasn't planning on talking to her myself but Oliver and I kind of had a dilemma over it so we decided to settle it with a game of rock paper scissors... to which I, uh, lost.

I knocked on the door and opened it seconds later to peek into her office to see her looking up at me uninterestedly.

"Hey, Mrs. Ponds. Oliver and I just wanted to say goodbye and thank you for everything this year. Hope you enjoy your summer." I said with a nervous smile, half-expecting her to not care but I was surprised when her face cracked a smile.

"Thank you, Mr. Vasco. I do hope you and your sugar boo enjoy your summers too."

I nodded appreciatively before closing the door. My eyes widened as I let out the breath that I realized I've been holding.

"How'd it go?" Oliver asked curiously.

I tugged on his sleeves, dragging him with me as I walked away from the door. "You should've done the talking. I swear, I'm always gonna pass out whenever I'd talked to teachers."

"But I won that rock paper scissors-"

"You know how I am, Oliver. Anyway, it went well but I don't know if I can say the same thing about me though." I said as I continued fanning my blushing face.

He laughed and gave my lips a short kiss which certainly did not help the intense blush on my face.

"You're gonna be okay. Oh and by the way, Jason and Heather are waiting, they want to do a year-end photo."

I nodded as my face thankfully calmed down. "Okay, okay." I took a deep breath before following him.

. . .

After almost two hours, we only had an hour left before going home. The four of us were resting under a tree, just talking about whatever. It was mostly about what we would do during the summer. Jason said that he and his family would be going to Mexico to visit their relatives. Oliver would just be home for the break while Heather would be visiting her parents in Japan.

Me? Well I planned to visit my Grandma from another state... but I guess the year didn't really go how I expected it to go. So I decided that I would just visit my family for the first half of the break and then for the second half, spend it getting to know Oliver and his family more.

"Hey Finn. Can I talk to you for a moment?" Heather said as she closed the book that she'd been glued to for the past hour.

"Oh, uh, sure. Nothing serious, right?" I asked as I stood up with her.

She shook her head with a smile before leading me just far enough for the two to not hear us.

She looked at me in the eye as we were standing before giving me the tightest embrace.

"I just wanna say how proud I am of you this year. I'll never understand how hard it must've been to you to sacrifice your own happiness for me and I'll forever treasure that. And I'm so happy that you got repaid the way you deserve. You're with your dream guy now, and we're all here to support you. I'm so, so sorry for all the inconveniences I also caused you this year. I feel like I don't even deserve your friendship but I must've done something good for you to be in my life."

I sighed and gave her hands a slight squeeze. "Heather. How many times do I have to say this? Once you came into my life, it literally got better. I hate being sappy but truly, you were the only one there for me when it was rough and that was enough reason."

She didn't say anything and instead embraced me as some sort of response and all I could do was hug her back.

"I'm glad I was there for you. Anyway, I know you don't like when I'm all corny and clingy so I'll stop." She joked to which I laughed.

I swung an arm over her shoulder as we walked back to where we were sitting and just as we were sitting down, the bell finally rung. A collective groan sounded from the other people sitting near us.

"Aw. It's time already?" Jason pouted adorably before turning to us. "I'm gonna miss you guys."

"You're gonna see us after summer, Jason." Oliver reassured him but he didn't succeed on taking his frown away.

"I know but that's at least two months."

"Don't worry, it's the 21st century and phones are a thing so we'll be facetiming." I joked which thankfully eased Jason.

"Okay. But my dad is already here to pick me up, we're literally about to leave for airport right now." Jason said as he stood up, straightening his shirt.

"Oh... I didn't realize you were leaving immediately." I said, the smile wiped off of my face.

"Yeah. Oh my God, I don't wanna cry you guys, I'm gonna miss seeing you everyday." Jason said before hugging the three of us.

"We'll miss you too you big teddy bear." Oliver teased as he ruffled Jason's hair.

"Okay, I really have to go. I love you guys, have a great summer!" He said, giving each of us tight hugs before grabbing his backpack, barely swinging it on his shoulder and hurrying towards the exit.

Heather's phone started ringing and I looked over to see an alarm going off.

"Oh, I thought this wasn't
