Elijah Hendrix

"Hendrix!" I hear her shout as she barrels her way into my house.

Instantly, my blood runs cold. She's totally seen the mess I made in the passenger seat of her car when I spilt smoothie all over the seat. I did try to clean it up, I really did, but she'd been shopping to Victoria Secret's and, well, Hendrix Jr was excited.

"Hendrix!" She calls again. When I hear her feet stomping their way up the steps, I jump from the bed, bracing myself for the absolutely assault I'm about to get, and maybe a valeting bill. It's no secret, the girl terrifies me. Her blue eyes all ablaze with fury, her skin stained red as she flushes with anger, and the twitch her nose does when she's trying to count to ten. She very rarely makes it.

If she's not angry with me, it's perhaps the cutest thing ever.

She barges into my room breathless and before she can say anything, I hold my hands out. "Osborne it was an accident I swear, I just stood it for a second and then it fell and -"

"What?" She interjects, her brows furrowed and her nose scrunched.

"What?" I retort, trying to gather myself. I let my eyes rake over her figure, trying to identify a characteristic of her emotion, but she doesn't look angry at all. That's unusual. Then, my eyes settle on the folded letter in her hand.

"Hendrix, I got in." She tells me, her mouth splitting into that grin that I can just never get enough of, her eyes twinkling with unparalleled glee.

My jaw falls south and then I laugh. "Lottie!" I exclaim, extending my arms out towards her. She immediately runs over, jumping on to me and knocking me off balance slightly. Her legs cinch around my waist and her arms wrap tight around my neck and I'm quick to reciprocate, squeezing my best friend near to death.

"I can't believe it!" She squeals into my ear.

"I can!" I tell her, kissing her cheek repeatedly. Then her nose, then her lips, then her other cheek too. For days now she's been fretting about her University application. She was completely inconsolable when she was only offered conditional offers, stressing that she'd never be able to meet the grades they required.

Yet here we are, my girlfriend completely ecstatic holding her acceptance letter for her child psychology degree she's dreamed about for years.

"I'm so proud of you baby." I tell her. She pulls back her head and smiles at me. That smile alone is enough for me to press my lips against hers. It's hardly a kiss considering she's still grinning like the Cheshire Cat, but I'll let her off just this once.

"Thank you," she mumbles against my lips before pulling away. "Now, care to explain what nonsense you were talking about just before?"

I gulp.

"Funny actually," I begin as she unwraps her legs and I place her on the floor. I take a precautionary step backwards. "I might've accidentally spilled smoothie in your car." Her face scrunches. "I cleaned it up best I could!" I add quickly as her nose starts to twitch.

I count the seconds in my head and after ten, she responds. "You're banned from smoothies." She tells me plainly.

"What?" I exclaim.

"You heard!" She scolds me, taking a step forward as she waves her letter around ferociously. "You're banned from smoothies and you're cleaning my car this weekend - inside out!" She huffs and turns away.

"Are you mad at me?" I ask her coyly. I crane my head slightly and can just about make out the small smile playing on her face. She manages to force it down and then she turns back to me, her expression fierce.

"Furious. So you best get making it up to me Elijah Hendrix." She tells me. I take a step towards her and wrap my arms around her waist, lifting her so our faces are immediately opposite one another.

"I'll do anything." I tell her softly, capturing her in a kiss again. This one she returns and I'm quick to deepen it, licking her lips and letting my tongue dance with hers but just as I start to veer off to the bed, she pushes me away.

"Steady Hoss." She tells me, hands on my chest. "We promised Tan we'd take Mason to the park." She reminds me.

I groan and start to kiss her neck. "Mase understand that we've got to wrestle."

She laughs, a sound that makes my heart soar, just as it always has done. "Babe, we've got to pick up Aria too. Come on, we've got all day." Reluctantly, I let her out of my arms.

"We better have celebratory sex later." I tell her. She takes my hand and leads my out of my bedroom.

"You're such a nymphomaniac." She giggles.

"Only when it's with you." She looks over her shoulder and cocks a brow and I silently will Hendrix Jr to remain calm. She doesn't understand what she does to me.

And this; apparently, during the time when all my blood leaves my brain to accommodate to the stiffer section of my body, I apparently agreed to taking Mason and Aria to the park.

It seems ludicrous. Aria is only seven months and can only just sit up unaided. Mason really couldn't give a shit about the park and I guarantee he will be bored in approximately five minutes and nag for us to go get ice cream.

But Lottie enjoys spending time with the kids and for her, I'll do anything.

~~~
I'm sat on the bench, lightly pushing Aria's pram backwards and forwards to lull her to sleep. Her eyes flutter but I can tell she's fighting it.
Ferne says that as of recent, she's turned unbelievably clingy and only falls asleep when cradled. I'm trying to break her out of the habit while Lottie is busy chasing Mason around the climbing frame.
He's screaming with glee and even she is laughing, her hands out poised ready to tickle when she catches him. She won't, of course, considering she's hardly jogging to keep herself slower than his sprint.
I can't help but watch with a smile on my face.
She's so beautiful, her smile, the way she is with kids. Miss Anger issues wouldn't dream of scolding children. She's a pacifist when it comes to them. Careful teaching about right and wrong, and a true entertainer too.
She doesn't mind making herself look stupid. She never has, not when we used to fight in the cafeteria, not when she used to throw tomato sauce all over me.
When she's with her friends, she'll laugh until she's snorting which only makes her laugh more. She'll laugh until her eyes are scrunched closed, creased with glee. Then afterwards, she always threads her hands through her hair and exhales in amusement, only to tumble back into laughter a moment later.
The way she is with family. She treats Aria like her own. Every moment she can she'll help Ferne by offering to babysit for a few hours. Even on her birthday, her eighteenth mind you, she spent the evening babysitting, me beside her obviously, and said it was the best she could've wished for.
She loves her brothers, her sister, her parents. The way she is with Seb, though I used to be so unbelievably jealous, I see it now the adoration she holds for him. She loves him so platonically and I know that for her, family stretches wider than blood.
Even Auntie Tanya and Mason; I can't count the times I've come home to see them all theee having dinner at the table.
She's a beautiful girl, with a beautiful soul and even with her temperament and sailor mouth, I wouldn't change her.
Not even when we argue over the most stupid things like my opinion on a TV show or because I've fallen asleep before the takeaway comes, because after a minute of her being angry, she remembers something she has to tell me and then she forgets that she was ever upset.
Not even when I've annoyed her past her limits and she's punched me in the arm because immediately, she apologises and kisses me better.
I love her.
It's not something I've told her yet. I mean, after a decade of hating each other, it seems we've both got a lot of making up to do. Right now, we're happy. She's my best friend and my girlfriend all in one. I know everything about her and she knows everything about me, excluding that of course.
I'll tell her, at some point I will, and soon I'm sure.
I smile at her as she makes her way over, slightly breathless as she tucks her hair behind her ears and out of her face.
"He's made friends." She tells me, pointing over to Mase whose now running round with two boys not far from his age.
She sits beside me, peering over into the pram and I see two chubby little arms lift, indicating that Lottie pick her up.
I laugh as she concedes, grabbing her niece and bring her to her chest, rocking slowly. Aria lays her head on her shoulder and immediately shuts her eyes as Lottie's fingertips trail in circles on her back.
Lottie, the one who said she'd be a terrible mother. I not long ago came to the conclusion that our robot baby Ellie was faulty because looking now, I know that Lottie will be an amazing mum.
I can't wait to have children with her.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asks me, her lips twitching with the ghosts of a smile. I shake my head and kiss her lightly.
"Just thinking about how I'm so pleased I threw that smoothie at you." I tell her.
She grins and shuffles closer, holding Aria close as she rests her own head on my shoulder. I press a kiss to her hair.
Who'd have thought. Me, falling in love with my arch-nemesis?
Yet, here I am.
