Ch 6 | Dinner

Mirae |

After school, I bid goodbyes with the few friends I have and my friend J-hope. I'm still figuring what should I study once I'll be in grade 9 in a few months.

My dream is quite artistic, only a few can succeed on that route. I have my worries, I also have to support my poor family by getting a professional job in the future instead of my useless scam of a dream —is what my mother calls.

Suddenly a jolting sound of my phone rings from my pocket making unnecessary heads turn at me. Aish that's so embarrassing. I hide my face in my hair taking the call.

"Mum! -calling so suddenly I tol-"

"Good afternoon Mirae, It's Mrs. Jeon; Jungkook's mother" I gasp shocked, now that's even more embarrassing. I lightly hit my head for being stupid.

"Y-yes Mrs. Jeon?" I smile politely even though she's not here, I nervously look around the beautiful old street with ugly paintings and garbage thrown in the corners of the old buildings, I can see some stray cats eating form the garbage. Ew.

–That will be me in a few years if I don't study properly.

Yeah, not a nice neighborhood I live in.

"I have talked to your mother for a dinner invitation, I forgot to give her the address your mother isn't picking up or maybe her phone is turned off so I called you instead"

but I have nothing to wear! "I'll send you the address. You don't need to bring any gifts"

"Y-yeah no problem, good day Mrs. Jeon" I laugh it off as some girls from my school past me with an expression on their faces 'disgust?'

"She lives here?! with criminals and ragged old people"

"Yeah, she's poor" I hear one of the girls whisper as the rest giggle with her saying som more hurtful things.

I shake my head, I smile firmly and hold my chin up pretending I have a tiara on my head walking home with a smile. Even in this situation, I need to smile.

Before my grandmother died she always told me 'ignore the useless because they're waste of time, always smile and kill 'em with kindness'

'Kill 'em with kindness'

Too soon is already 6:30, my parents wore their best outfits since we're not that rich to afford much. I wore a royal blue layered skirt till my ankle and a white blouse with my hair pulled down; my grandmother made the outfit for me on my 10th birthday.

"Do you think he'll like me?" Dongwook asked for the thirty-fifth time. He'll be friendly rejected before he even knows.

"No" I head out leaving the 8-year-old behind.

We took a public bus to reach their private property, my parents can't afford any transportation object right now, sometimes I go to school by walking and other times I ride my old, junky bike.

"We're here" appa stood before the gate. Aish, even the simple metallic gate is more expensive than my entire years of school fee.

Aigoo, he's so cute. We're already in the mansion in their large living room and Kookie seems like he just woke up. "Noona!" His loud voice brings my parent's attention, they adoringly look at him as I opened my arms taking in the little guy in my arms.

He tightly hugged me, his green eyes twinkling "Is this Jungkook, Noona?" Dongwook asked mustering a grin at Kookie who only glared at him. I smirked at Dongwook replying me with fiery glare too.

His arms got tighter around me "Ah, your son is really fond of our daughter" my dad chuckled.

Wait! now that I think about it I never met Kookie's dad, I thought he's going to attend this sudden dinner thingy.

Mrs. Jeon led my parents away with only me, Kookie and my brother remaining.

I picked up Kookie in which he buried his little face in my hair "Have you been a good boy" I coo lowly.

"Noona...It was dark and cold" he mumbled —huh? "The world was black, everything was black" he started playing with my hair surpassing his sleepy condition.

What is he talking about? "Dinner is ready" A maid yelled from the dining room. At dinner, our parents talked for God knows how long.

I'm still worrying at what Kookie said but then again he may have quoted from a cartoon or something... I'm sure of it.

The maid said dinner's done, yet we're still sat on the long fancy dinner table for more than half an hour. Kookie sat next to me drinking his chocolate milkshake, I haven't noticed I've been staring at the milkshake until Kookie held it up before my face.

"Do you want it?" he asked sucking on the straw with a smirk — wait can kids smirk? I grin and violently nod my head, I love milkshake.

It took some time for him to give it to me, I took the cup but —'Nothing' I slurped on the straw which caused some burbly, farting sounds; Mrs. Jeon and my parents turned around at me making me blush in embarrassment.

"It's finished," I said quietly in his ear, he stopped playing a game on an iPhone the phone is the savior to my flip flop phone.

"-Yah you did, but you never asked for the milkshake" he stuck his tongue out going back on his game. This kid is losing the love I have for him! I swear!

"That's what you get ugly witch," my brother said, I glared at him kicking him under the table. Now I feel a bit sad for no reason and at a 6-year-old. I'm going crazy.

For some unknown reason, Kookie started glaring at Dongwook. He stood up and ran to the kitchen. I looked at Dongwook confused.

"Do you think he went to get a Bergmann MG 15nA machine gun to shoot you" I glare at my brother.

One day I'll kill him, he always annoys me everywhere and makes up some abc123 gun machine what-ever-it-is.

From time to time I look around for Kookie's arrival but he's been gone for quite a long time. I feel bored.

Tiredly I bury my head on the palm of my hands while Dongwook is blubbering how Kookie doesn't like me either because I'm am a witch, a zombie, and whatever creature.

"Noona, a milkshake for you"
