MITCHELL

Sammy loved my surprise at the house. She walked through the entire house twice and hummed as she touched the walls and peeked out the windows. While inspecting every nook and crevice, I could see her imagination working. She was buzzing like a little bee.

"There are so many options. I can't wait to get started. I'll have to look at the magazines again, and at Pinterest and I want to watch some more diy shows."

I chuckled at her excitement.

"There is so much we could do." She gestured with her hand towards the kitchen but continued in a full circle, which I assumed meant to the entire house. "This place will be beautiful by the time we're done with it."

"I believe you."

"We can put down new floors right because I don't like these pinkish tile floors at all."

"I agree. New floors."

"And kitchen cabinets, and maybe open up the staircase, oh, and paint."

"Paint, huh?"

"Yeah, paint," she continued, and then she must have realized what I was referring to because she stopped and glared at me. "No stripping if we have a painting party. Leave that to Bryce."

"But I'm so much better at it."

"Mitch," she groaned like I was a disobeying child and when I just laughed, she smacked me on the ass. "It's all mine." She reminded me by thrusting her left hand with the engagement ring in my face.

When I finally got her to relax with me on the blankets and pillows I'd set up, I poured us both a glass of champagne. She accepted it with the biggest smile on her face.

"For you, my darling."

"I can't believe I'm going to be Mrs. Evans."

Damn, I barely could either, but I really liked the sound of it.

"I can't wait," I told her truthfully.

Sammy took a sip of the champagne and nodded in approval. "It's good."

"Yeah. Are you hungry?" I asked and reached for the picnic I'd packed.

"Not yet."

"Okay." I settled for only unpacking the snacks and left the actual food for later.

"When do you want to get married?" Sammy asked.

I looked up at met her hazel eyes that looked more golden in candle light.

"The sooner the better."

She nodded and stayed quiet for a bit while she nibbled on her bottom lip.

"What?" I asked when she said nothing more.

"Where do you want to get married? And what kind of wedding do you want?"

"Sammy, I..." I couldn't really say I didn't care, because I did. I cared that she got what she wanted. Where it was, or how big of a wedding, that didn't matter to me. I just wanted her to be happy. My hesitation didn't seem to stop her.

"Could we get married here?" she asked with a swipe of her arm towards the backyard.

"Yeah." I began to smile. I loved that idea.

Sammy took a drink from the champagne glass and looked out at the dark backyard.

"Would you be okay with having just a small wedding? Like really small?"

"Sam, that's perfect. All I want is to marry you."

She looked almost shy when she smiled at me. "I'd like that too, very much."

"When do you want to do it?"

"I guess we need to do it before the season starts, unless we want to wait until next year?"

Shit. That got my heart beating faster. We were talking with in three months. "Is that enough time?"

She rolled her eyes at me, in typical Sammy fashion. I already knew a sarcastic response was coming before she opened her mouth.

"Because we have so much family to invite."

When she put it like that... "True. Want to do it tomorrow?"

"What?" she gasped.

I chuckled and reached for her hand.

"The only people we really need at our wedding are already down here."

She nibbled on her bottom lip again and looked like she was actually considering it.

"I think I'd like to wait a little longer than that. I'd like to at least buy a dress."

This was going better than I'd expected. We might actually be married and living together before the hockey season started.

"Of course."

"Do you think we could actually have it here?"

"The house might not be done, but we can get a tent set up in the backyard if you want."

"Yeah. I think I'd like that a lot."

I took the champagne glass out of her hand and put it on the floor next to me. Then I leaned in and kissed her right on the mouth. Hers was soft and firm under mine, and it only took a couple of seconds before she opened and let me in. Her warm mouth and slick tongue were now a familiarity and something I craved every day.

She softened under my hands the way she normally did. The small moans and whimpers that escaped her mouth as my hands continued the caress along her soft skin had a direct line to my cock, which was already straining against my shorts.

"Damn, Sammy, you feel so good."

She smelled of sunshine and beach, and something floral that was distinctively her. Long, slender arms and legs wrapped around me as I eased her back down against the pillows. The candlelight high lightened the lustful expression on her face, and that was something I'd never tire of seeing.

It wasn't just my heart that swelled as she grabbed onto my biceps and pressed herself against me. "Mitch," she sighed when we took a second to breathe.

"Sam..."

Her hand cupped my erection above the shorts. I thrust myself against it, already desperate for some friction. She allowed it for a few seconds, then she reached for my zipper and tugged at my shorts. When her hands disappeared inside my over boxer briefs and closed around my weeping cock, I groaned loud and hard.

Sammy giggled, but it was the teasing spark in her eyes that made me kiss her harder.

Suddenly, we were pulling at each other's clothes, trying to get as close as possible with no kind of barrier between us. Her skin on mine would forever be my favorite place to be.

I cupped her small breasts while her hands were grabbing my ass. Her response was immediate. She buckled her back, presenting more of herself to me, pushing her breast further into my hands.

God, I loved how responsive she was to me.

We were a tangled mess of long legs and arms, panting breaths, burning skin, and hard parts pressed against soft. She was rocking against me, so wet and needy. Just how I wanted it.

"Mitch, now, please," she begged.

I didn't hesitate. Just eased myself into her, slowly giving her time to take every inch of me. We both moaned once I bottomed out. I had to focus on keeping still for a moment, or it would be over before it began.

Slow moving was, however, not what Sammy had in mind. She flipped us over and rode me like her life depended on it.

I woke up in the morning with Sammy's arm wrapped around my chest and her warm breath on the back of my neck. The sun rose above the trees in the backyard, its light finding the way into our makeshift bed on the living room floor.

I eased out of Sammy's arms and reached for my phone. There was a text from Nash from just a few minutes earlier, letting me know he'd put coffee for us on the front porch.

"Sweet."

I smiled when I found the two large cups of coffee next to each other right outside the front door. I sent him a quick reply, thanking him for the coffee, letting him know we'd be over in a little while.

Sammy was awake when I walked back into the living room. She stood in front of the window, dressed only in my t-shirt. There was a smile on her face as she studied the engagement ring on her finger. She twisted her hand back and forth in the sunlight, almost like she was doing a princess wave. The diamond sparkled. And it should. I'd made sure I got the best quality.

"Do you like it?" I asked. I put the coffees down on the floor and wrapped my arm around her thin body.

She leaned into me, and there was a big smile on her lips. "I love it," she said. "It's gorgeous."

"Like you." I pressed a kiss to her cheek.

"Did Kennedy help you with this?"

"No." I pretend scowled. "Do you seriously think she'd be able to keep quiet?"

She giggled. "No. You're right." She studied the ring again and then looked up to meet my eyes. "So, did you get it all by yourself?"

"No, Nash helped."

"Nash?" she repeated, and sounded surprised.

"Yeah," I chuckled. "He married Kennedy. He knows how this works."

"Oh, yeah. I guess that's true." She giggled along with me. "I just never imagined him as being someone interested in jewelry."

"Well, he knew the jeweler, which made it easier. It's kind of intimidating to look at engagement rings."

Her gaze softened as her eyes met mine. "You did a beautiful job. It's so gorgeous."

I pressed a quick kiss onto her lips and, as always, she responded and kissed me back.

"Speaking about Nash." I gestured towards the coffee cups.

"He got us coffee?"

"Yeah."

"Wow. Okay." She winked and reached for the cups. "I could definitely get used to this."

It was my turn to roll my eyes.

"Come on," I told her a few minutes later. "I need to clean this up so we can go back to the Reeds. I want to shower before we're meeting with Jose."

"Jose?" she asked as her head cocked to the side. "Who's Jose?"

"The contractor."

Her eyes widened, and I realized I'd totally forgotten to tell her about it.

"For the new kitchen..."

"New kitchen? Now?"

I nodded, and she squealed loudly and pulled me back into her arms.

It was a good hour after that when we'd finally finished cleaning up. By then the coffee was already cold, but that was okay. I'd already had everything in needed and was thoroughly satisfied.

Sammy slipped her hand into mine as we descended the stairs. Her right one. Not the left. She was still busy admiring the ring on that one.

The weather was warm, but with a slight breeze, and full of salty ocean air.

"I think I'm really going to love it here," Sammy said.

"I think I am too."

And it felt so right walking down the empty streets, lined with palm trees, with her hand in mine. It finally felt like things were going my way.
