New York, 2015

Gray eyes were focused on what lay beyond the glass pane.

The floor to ceiling window in his apartment gave him an ultimate skyline view.

The manic busy city of New York. The city that never slept. He watched aimlessly at the dime sized yellow cabs stop and go throughout the streets as tiny people in swarms walked about.

The cacophony of the busy lifestyle beyond this glass was one he grew accustomed to since arriving here 3 years ago from London.

Still trying to grip his bearings of this life he did not know or belong to, he surprisingly adapted well. Slowly but surely. And thanks to the help of his great-great many times removed grand nephews Jason and Dennis .

With a smirk he shook his head. If anyone knew of this they would think him a lunatic and lock him up in a phych ward. So his nephew Dennis claims.

He is still amazed til this day of how they found him. He was in more of a shock to know that they knew of him and what he had done to be here.

He defied the laws of time to be with his love. Tara.

The day he opened his eyes, he was confused. He had no clue of what to expect he was not even sure if he was in the right era. He was still in London. In a hospital. According to the nurses he was found passed out along the country side. Struck by a car and left for dead no doubt in the freezing weather. They called it a hit and run.

He soon learned he was in the year 2012 far from the year in which Tara mentioned. He had arrived too soon.

Anxious and uneasy he wanted to go to her.

After 3 days of confusion and not knowing how to respond to their questions, he was visited by Dennis and Jason. It was an awkward meeting at first as they told the nurses he was family.

Duncan weary and exhausted with everything that was happening he said nothing as they watched the nurse leave. When he was finally alone with them, he explained to Dennis that he must be mistaken because he had no family. He did not know them.

The smile that appeared on his face as he turned to look at his brother with a mixture of awee stopped Duncan immediately from speaking.

"I understand your confusion. You don't have to worry. I am here to help you. We all are." Dennis mentioned as he pulled a chair close and sat at his side.

"Yes, I understand but who are you and who do you speak of?" Duncan felt agitated.

Never would have he expected to hear the next few words that would only leave him flabbergasted.

"If you are Sir Duncan Du Bec, Son of Ardolf and brother to Aidan....then we are your descendants. We, and those that are still alive in my family are descendants from your brother Aidan," Jason smiled.

With a loss for words Duncan sat there unable to comprehend what they were saying. Until they handed him a two pieces of parchment paper.

With a frown he opened it on shaky hands. His eyes focused on the familiar handwriting of both his father and Aidan. Overwhelmed and swallowing hard at the lump forming in his throat, he read his fathers first.

*******

My Dear Son,

When this missive reaches you, I will be long gone. Since the day you left, your brother, the gypsy and I have set in motion the needed steps for you to succeed at finding Tara.
With your last words, you asked that Aidan write of his life. And he has done so.
He has made it his duty to chronocalize it and passed on the task to his children. Our purpose is to pass through the bloodlines; the knowledge of what you have done and to be aware of your arrival. With emphasis we ensured that it would be done. I pray that it has and you are reading this.

My dear son you left worried and in truth there was no need. I'm honored to say that although your presence was deeply missed, your brother has taken care of me and has become an exceptional father and husband.

In my old age, I was blessed and able to enjoy my grandchildren and here I lie surrounded by them as my days of taken my last breaths are so near.

I go into the heavens my son at peace. I leave knowledge of your sacrifice for love and I am confident that our efforts will be seen through until the day Tara is finally in your arms.

Be merry my son and seek your love, marry her and enjoy every moment with her. Give her my love and speak of me to my grandchildren.

I love you....
Ardolf...

A tear escaped him with a sob. He waved away the panic in their eyes as they stood to comfort him. They sat and watched him continue on to Aidan's letter.

*****

Brother

I write this letter in full hope and prayers that my will was done. Throughout the years, I have made it my duty to write of my life. I decided it would be best to not only write of my life, but to write of yours as well.

I would pass this on to my children where they will continue my will and write of there's as well and pass on their knowledge of you through me and so forth to their own.

A journal of our lives will be left for you to read in a way as if you were here with us all. I spoke nothing but of you to your nieces and nephews and I implored them to do the same.

Now that my final days are upon me, I feel satisfied that I can at last rest eternally by my loves side.

I wish you and Tara a life of love and plentiful joy.

Until we see each other again.
Love
Aidan

From that day he has since read the many journals left behind. Each individual one depicting important events throughout their lives. He was simply amazed. He lived each era through their words.

Then he learned even more with the so called internet he has slowly mastered.

They took their time helping him adjust. When it was time to meet his older descendants it was astounding. It was a secret well kept that was binding. One they held true to. No skepticism. Just the belief that it will come to pass. It was all possible thanks to his father, brother and the gypsy.

His memories returned to that night.

"It is what will bind him to his lost love." she said as she slid the dagger over his palm.

He lowered his head and lifted his palm slowly to the light. His gaze followed the jagged line that often throbbed and itched. He passed his left thumb over it and rubbed it gently.

Its been three years as he patiently has waited and adapted to her time. With their help he has searched for her sadly with the knowledge that he could not approach her even if he did find her.

But to his dismay, in such time she was very hard to find. How many Tara's can there be? He angrily shook his head at his predicament. But he felt at ease when they assured him, she can be found.

In that moment the door behind him opened and he turned to watch Jason enter.

He lowered his backpack onto the nearby chair slowly following it and plopping down beside it with an agitated sigh.

"Long day lad?" Duncan grinned taking in the annoyed look of his nephew.

"Yeah, very long and exasperating," he rolled his eyes and shook his head.

With a chuckle Duncan walked over to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator then pulled out two cans of soda. He had grown fond of the fizzy beverage that tickled his nose, so he demanded that they always keep them on hand.

He tossed one to Jason and popped it open plopping on the chair before him.

"Care to talk about it?" Duncan mimicked Jason's pose and sat to listen as he ranted in detail of the 5'3" little chit that insulted him today all because he skipped ahead of her in line at the registration desk.

"I mean she was on her bloody mobile, she was not paying attention so I went around her. She was holding up the line," he fumed and rambled on.

Amused Duncan held his stern look and nodded as Jason continued.

"I mean what can be that important that she spent that whole time on the damn thing and standing in line, then she had the nerve to tell me I was rude for cutting in front of her uncle. I was rude?" he leans forward pointing to his chest with an indignant scoff.

Heated and still upset, he continued all the while Duncan sat back schooling his features and trying not to smile. His memories of Tara and their first meeting had the same out come.

Midway through his ranting, Dennis walked through the door and made his way to the livingroom where he plopped down on the chair beside his brother. A smirk on his face he shook his head and turned to Duncan.

"A beautiful girl got under his skin," he grinned as Duncan shook his head and began to smile.

"Beautiful she devil more like it." Jason huffed.

Dennis tossed his head back with a laugh. "Goodness brother Mimi is hardly that, she is a good person. Eccentric but good hearted all the same."

Duncan stiffened in his seat and sat bolt upright.
"Did you say Mimi?" he cut them off before they began to argue.

Slowly they turned to watch Duncan sit up. With a frown they looked at eachother.
Jason turned to look at him.
"Yes, Mimi...Why?"

Duncan slumped back in the chair in deep thought. Could this be?
Could she be?
He swallowed at the lump in his throat.

He then stood and walked to his room. He rummaged through his things as Dennis and Jason followed him.

"Uncle what are you looking for?" Dennis asked.

Duncan began pulling things out of his closet.
"The suede satchel. The one that the nurses handed to me the day we left the hospital." he inched over seeing the strap to it sticking out from beneath his luggage.

He bent to get it. Anxiously yanking it out and walking to his bed he dumped out all of its contents.

Tara's bag

He reached for the familiar item that he knew would help.

"Uncle where did you get that?" Dennis was astonished seeing the Iphone in his uncles hands. He had a different one.

Nervously, Duncan looked up to him. He had forgotten about it. For so long they based their search on his knowledge of her image. They had nothing to ho on. It wasnt until now he remembered the nurses handed it to him before he left that day from the hospital.
"It was beside you on the road." the nurse had said.

"It belonged to Tara. With the chaos and shock, I totally forgot that this had images of her." he held it out to Dennis that took it.

Quickly he turned away and they followed him out towards his room where he opened his drawer and pulled out a cord. Perplexed, Duncan watched as the cord was plugged in and Dennis turned it on.

His heart fluttered at the sound of the chime while it turned on. They huddled together in silence and heard Duncan gasp as Tara's picture appeared on the screen.

Dennis pointed to her picture with a frown.
"She is in my AP Calculus class."

Duncan let out a sob. "Are you sure?"

Dennis scrolled over to the picture gallery nodding his head. Then he found countless images stopping on one.

"Thats her!" Jason pointed out at Mimi's image.

They looked at him.

Duncan fought the overwhelming urge to not break down before them. His chest tightened at the idea that she could tell him where to find Tara.

"Uncle do you know what this means?" Dennis turned to look at Duncan with a smile.

Tear filled eyes lifted to theirs as he nodded his head barely able to speak.

"We found her."
