New York, 2015

The sensation of being dragged backwards through a dark tunnel overwhelmed her as she struggled and screamed. Images floated around her as she cried grasping for something to keep her from falling.

Her mother kissing her forehead as she read her a book when she was a little girl.

Her father at her first dance recital.

Mimi, Carl and Andrew pulling her along the sandy beach into the water on their last summer break....

Her aunt comforting her as she mourned the loss of her mother.

Duncan when they first made love.

Darkness engulfed her as the breath from her lungs flushed from her mouth as if she was punched hard in the stomach. Gasping for air the gurgled scream could barely comeout even as her hearing went silent. She panicked and continued to struggle as if drowning until finally she broke through that barrier taking in a large gulp of air. And bright lights blinded her momentarily.

Afraid and terrified the tingling in her body continued, her eyes flashed open and she bolted up right in the bed disoriented with machines that beeped and chirped chaotically. Her head began to spin.

Not able to focus the only thing she could do is yank and pull out her I.V. as she cried. She shook her head and screamed.

The machines let out an incessant beep. Suddenly a nurse appeared at the door shocked and began to shout.

In short order her room swarmed with nurses that were at her side as she climbed off the bed and fell weakly to her knees.

"Send me back please. I didn't tell him how much I loved him. Please." she cried frantically.

She was lifted on to the bed and calmed by one of the nurse that held her in place as another administered a sedative.

The effect of the drugs slowly coursed through her as her eyes drooped. Before darkness fully claimed her the last words that escaped her breath was his name.

Duncan.

Slowly she regained consciousness the next morning. Not wanting to accept this reality she lay on her side with her eyes closed. The monitor amd machines beeping in intervals.

She wasn't crazy or hallucinating nor was she crazy or hallucinating her time with Duncan. She lay still listening to the Dr. and her father speak low as if not to wake her.

"Duncan?" her father sounded puzzled as the doctor asked if they knew anyone by that name.

How can they? She thought.
He is a man she fell inlove with 770 years in the past.

For a good 20 minutes she lay there listening to the Dr. Talk of her recovery and how long she would continue there and the studies needed to be done before she is released to return home.

Home....

Her eyes slowly opened to stare out the window and the bright day. It all felt so surreal. She had anticipated this moment and now.....she didn't know how to deal with it.

The day had went by and slowly merged into the next when shortly familiar faces began to appear to visit her. Her Aunt cried as she hugged Tara and held her close. Then her friends. Lastly her father.

The feelings surging through her were nothing she expected. After fighting so long to return, she should be beaming with joy anxious to leave and begin her life anew. She had been in a coma for well over 4 months. There was so much she missed out on but none of it seemed to matter.

A refreshing breeze blew over her skin and faint scent of him crossed her nose. Settling deeper into that familiar warmth she snuggled close. Lightly she felt his fingertip glide down her nose then softly his lips pressed to hers.

She smiled, lovingly he pulled her closer and kissed her again.

Her eyes slowly opened and settled on his. That gorgeous hue of steel in their depths she thought she would never see again held her gaze with so much love.

Suddenly taking in her surroundings she realized they were bare snuggled together with nothing covering them. They were stretched out beneath a tree on the meadow by a stream.

She shivered as she realized this....was only a dream or was it real. She swallowed hard and closed her eyes not wanting it to be a dream. She felt his skin, his heat, the scent of earth and spice mixed with the fresh breeze around them she would forever remember it.

"What is wrong?" she heard him ask.

Slowly she opened her eyes and looked at him. She was silent she continued to look at him. His loving gaze turned to one of concern as he lifted his finger to cheek and caressed it.

She couldn't speak because if she did she was surely going to cry.

"Talk to me love," the rich timber of his voice rolled through her.

He leaned up on his elbow and gently pulled her close and held her gaze in silence. She lay still, staring up at him she took in his features. Her fingers raised up to caress his cheek and trace the outline of his jaw. The prickly stubble sent a tingling sensation down her palm.

She wished they could be like this forever. She swallowed hard at the lump of fear and sorrow in her throat. His expression went from a loving gaze to one of concern as he saw a pool of unshed tears forming in her eyes.

A tear escaped as she looked away from his gaze and he quickly caught it with his thumb.

"Why are you sad? Tell me what can I do to return your smile." he whispered caressing her and pulling her close.

The smile she gave him never reached her eyes.
His concern touched her deeply knowing he would slay and vanquish a dragon if possible just to free her from her fear. She was filled with too much sorrow and pain to speak.

"I love you so much," was all she could manage to say. The fear of loosing the forever she wanted with him settled in her heart.

"And I love you," he answered back.

She reached up softly wrapping her fingers around his nape and hently pulled his head down to hers and closed her lips above his.

Sweetly she kissed him savouring his taste and all that was him. Willing her mind to never forget it.

The kiss deepened and soon they gave into their fervent need. He needed her.
And she needed him. They made love with unbridled passion.

He held her gaze with the unveiled promise of devotion and love as he surged into her with deliberate tender thrusts. Each rise and slow fall of his hips brought her close to the edge.

She caressed him tight to her and met the sensual rocking of his hips. He filled her body, mind, heart and soul with unspoken emotion. The intense pleasure of her release shattered her as she whimpered his name.

He held her tight and whispered his love to her.

Trembling in his embrace his loving gaze held hers as she wept beneath him. "I don't want to wake up. I don't want to leave you," she cried.

He lowered his lips to hers and passionately kissed her then glided his lips to her cheek then lowered them to her ears.

"You must, my love." his voice was strained with emotion. The finalty of his tone made her cry.

Her heart thudded hard in her chest.

Silently, she held his gaze not wanting to ever forget his face.

He lowered his head to her chest and kissed her above her beating heart.

"I will remain here forever," he whispered.

"And I will linger here for an eternity until we meet again." he kissed her forehead.

She wrapped her arms tight around his neck and nuzzled her nose to it sobbing she held him as tight as possibly she could. Savouring his warmth as he tightened his hold on her as well.

"I will never forget," she promised.

He pulled back gently and looked down at her. His soft gaze never left hers.

"You must sleep. It's time to go now." he smiled caressing her cheek.

"I will always be with you. Remember that," he promised.

Slowly her body grew heavy as her eyelids fought to hold his gaze. She wanted a little while longer with him.
But she was loosing the battle as they slowly closed.

"Wait please. Don't go...." she began to panick.

Restlessly she jerked to reach up for him.
A bright light formed around him as he stared down her with a beautiful smile.

"Duncan...." she whispered his name once more as he disappeared.

Silence followed.

She jerked awake and bolted upright in the bed. Her surroundings foggy and the blinding morning light made her shut her eyes. The silence surrounding her slowly drew close to sudden beeps unfading in the distance as she gasped for air and began to cry.

It was only a dream.

Suddenly warm arms tightened around her and the familiar voice of Mimi frantically tried to soothe her.

Her friend rocked with her and rubbed her back soothing her with words reassuring her that everything will be ok.

But deep down Tara wasn't sure if she would ever be o.k.

Her reality finally caught up to her.

She lost her forever.

She lost Duncan.
