I looked down at my art work. "Mrs. Porter, can I redo this?" Mrs. Porter, my art teacher, sighed and shook her head. "That's the fifth time you've asked for a do-over, you may not get another one." I pouted and shifted my paper over towards a kid named Kevin. "How's this? I feel the color scheme is all junked up, don't you?" Studying him, I could tell he didn't like it. He clapped his hands together and beamed at me. "It's amazing as usual, you should become an artist!" He said sarcastically. "Liar." "What?" "You make me sick dude." "Why? It's not my fault you suck." Kevin said. "If you didn't like my art work you could've said so." I told him. Kevin shook his head and smirked. "Man you sure are a stupid perfectionist rat" My eyes narrowed, I stood up slowly, never taking my gaze off of him. Mrs. Porter sighed again and used the tips of her fingers to rub her temple.

"Please you two, not again." I ignored her and kept my focus on Kevin. "What's so wrong about wanting to do everything the best way I can?" I asked, cracking my knuckles in the process. Kevin's smirk widened, and he slid his chair out causing Mrs. Porter to groan. "Of course there would be nothing wrong with it, coming from a nerd." He said. I took a step towards Kevin and he didn't back down an inch. We stared at each other for a moment, and it became clear to me suddenly. "You want to die, don't you? Talking to me like that only means you have a death wish, am I right?" I posed the question seriously, because he should know better than to mess with me. Kevin laughed "I'm in the mood to hurt someone." I bumped past him and walked out of the art room, he isn't worth my efforts.

Typical Kevin, always starting stuff. It was only a few seconds before noisy footsteps came clambering after mine. "Where ya going Jody?" My tall best friend Zeke asked as he caught up to me.

I slipped my hands in my pockets, and took a left down a dark hallway. "Assembly meeting in Cafeteria 2B2024, all are supposed to show up before sundown." I looked at Zeke. his incompetence made me feel nauseous. "You really need to stay on top of these things, never knowing what's going on will falter your abilities to advance forward." I said, hopefully that'll stick in his memory. Through the darkness, I saw a door with a red cubicle door knob. I opened the door, and walked into the assembly room. I couldn't see anything, too many people were crowded in front of the doorway. They didn't even notice I had opened the door. A slight headache started to form.. "Move people." I blurted loudly as I shoved my way through the crowd. "Important meeting up ahead." I finally made my way through the heinous rude crowd, securing a good spot in the front. Zeke followed close behind, apologizing to the people who were in my way for no reason. After he secured his spot next to me, he slugged me in the shoulder.

"What was that back there?" I shrugged in response. I don't understand what he means. "You take things entirely too seriously, you know that?" I ignored that, and focused on a man who just walked a few yards in front of me. He wore a tight white shirt, black slacks as pants, and sandals. This man? Who is he? Why is he so unprofessionally dressed? The man scanned the area, then got into a squatting position.

I narrowed my eyes, this clown must've stumbled into the wrong room, no, the wrong school in general. I watched him squat for a few more seconds before I got disgusted. He couldn't have been younger than forty, the gray linings in his hair virtually screamed old man. "Hey clown, are you lost?" I asked him, annoyance stinging my tone. A couple kids around me including Zeke looked to see what I was talking about. The man who was still acting unprofessional looked up in my direction and glared. "Who...Is it, you think.. You're talking to?" The man left his squatting position and jumped upward. My eyes slowly widened the more and more his body climbed through the air. Five, Ten, Twenty feet, and he kept rising until his body collided with the ceiling.

I blinked a few times, then I rubbed my eyes. I looked down, there was no trampoline or bouncing mechanisms on the floor. The whole crowd became ballistic, screaming and pushing past each other to exit out of the room. They're more than likely scared about how he jumped so high. Some people stayed, but the scene was still chaotic. The man yelled twice, and things slowly died down. Once he was sure he had everyone's attention, he awkwardly cleared his throat.

"Everyone listen up, my name is Headmaster Goldenshot." He boomed down at us. Surreal. I shook my head, no human is capable of jumping even half that height, nor is he anything like a headmaster. Secondly, how is he using his back to stick to the ceiling? The kids immediately started chatting amongst themselves, but they were drowned out just as fast from Goldenshot's screech.

"SILENCE FOOLS!" He cleared his throat and continued on. "You all are supposed to respect me anyhow-" "How is it that you jumped so high when it isn't humanly possible?" I interrupted him. He looked shocked, then he blinked a few times. "Huh?" He answered stupidly. "Impossible. No matter how you look at it, it isn't scientifically possible to jump that high." I came at him again. I wanted answers, I needed an explanation. "Questions will wait until the end." He answered back quickly and bluntly. Looks like I won't be getting that answer. "Now," Subject change. "I would like to explain to everyone here just exactly what's going on." Goldenshot said. Nobody said a word, it was so silent you could hear wildlife buzzing from behind the walls. Goldenshot cleared his throat again. "Fifty years ago, it became illegal to house three kids in a home. Due to how overly populated the earth was becoming. Or, kids who have... mental disabilities/ Parents since then, have had to choose their least favorite child and send that child away. You all, are your parents least favorite child." That was awfully blunt. Chatter broke out once more, and I rocked back and forth to ease the weird strange feeling buzzing deep within my abdomin.

Impossible, illogical! I'm not my parents least favorite, it obviously had to be... Uh... never mind. They only sent me away because they knew I could handle it best! Right..? I almost felt self doubt. I shook my head, trying to neutralize the thoughts and memories circulating through my mind. "So? What's your point?" I barked at him. Zeke grabbed at my arm, but I instinctively pulled away. Who does this guy think he is, telling me this ludicrous information. Goldenshot cleared his throat yet again. "My point is, that your parents made the right choice. I'm going to help all of you tap into your full potentials!" He declared. I narrowed my eyes further, just what is this headmaster wanne be getting at. I spoke up again, "How are you going to help us? And what makes you so sure as to believe we want your help?" Goldenshots face twisted, and he forced his body off the ceiling, causing weird crackling sounds and hard solid crystal like substances to fall from the place his body was on. They fell through the air above me, and I caught one. From the looks of it, it seemed to be ice, but what was ice doing on the ceiling? "JODY MOVE!" Zeke yelled. I looked up quickly, but it was too late. Goldenshot had fallen from the ceiling and was mere moments from landing on me. I tried to move, but he grabbed my arms and wrapped his legs around my abdomen. Cold, he felt extremely cold, almost frozen.

My body became rigidly stiff as well as my arms. I looked down and my body was being coated with a crystal like substance, the ice from earlier. The ice slithered it's way up my shoulders and up to my neck. Zeke screamed, and so did I. What's going on? What is he doing to me? I tried to fight out of it, but the ice crawled over my mouth and fully encased my head. After a few seconds, he slowly let go of me and backed up. Zeke covered his mouth, and looked up at Goldenshot. At this point, over half the people in the room left running and screaming. Everybody went into an extreme frenzy once again, and it took several minutes for Goldenshot and staff to calm everyone down. Goldenshot looked at the crowd and cleared his throat.

"You all are called life defects. It means there's something wrong inside your brains." He said without a hint of sympathy in his tone. "Some of you suffer from memory loss, others of you suffer from being stupid or illiterate. And then this one, suffers the curse of being far too serious." He stared at me as he said that last part, but I could do nothing to stop him. "I can help you all become the best possible people that your capability allows. Just like I turned this boy into an ice sculpture, I can give you abilities that'll push you farther through this world and help you protect yourselves." My whole entire being screamed questions at him, but I couldn't say anything. I couldn't move, I couldn't even blink.

Goldenshot cleared his throat again, and I was beginning to believe he had obsession with that. He turned around and started walking away, then he paused. "Think about it." With that, he hustled out of the auditorium through the back doors I didn't notice until now. Shortly after he left, students gathered around me and the chatter began. Some kids were poking me, other kids were laughing at me. This was embarrassing, utterly humiliating. I just stood there stiff as a rock, my body incapable of even twitching. The amount of torture my body and skin was going through was impossible to calculate. Everything around me was freezing, I was so cold that I felt I was on the verge of death.

After what seemed like forever, staff finally arrived and told all the students to go back to class. They gently lifted my frozen body up and set me down in some sort of wagon. I could feel nothing, everything on me had went numb. The only thing that remained was my consciousness, which was slowly escaping me as well.

As they carted me out of the auditorium, Zeke ran up to me and paused. "Dude, how did you get frozen?"

Chapter One: The Ability To Be:

They never figured out how to unfreeze me, so they had to call Goldenshot in. It took them almost thirty minutes to convince him to reverse his ice trick. His excuse was that my attitude was the reason I got like this in the first place. Nonetheless, he cleared his throat and chopped away the ice easily. When he finished, he had them put me in the boiler room so my body temperature would return to normal. It took four days for me to return back to normal health, and two weeks for me to wake up. When I awoke, I found myself to be in the infirmary room. Sitting up, I felt light headed. The room spun at first, and it took a couple minutes for my vision to correct itself. I attempted to leave my resting area, but I collapsed quickly because my legs gave out on me.

I groaned and tried to force my legs to work. I got up again, but this time my legs wobbled and I went crashing into a glass filing cabinet next to me. I layed on the ground helplessly and I cursed myself for being inadequate. Upon hearing the crash, a nurse ran into the room and she knelt by me. "Are you okay? I'm thrilled you're awake, but you shouldn't be walking quite yet!" She said to me in a hurried hushed tone. She tried to escort me to my resting area, but I shook her away. "I'm going to go see Goldenshot, tell me where he is." I demanded of her. She hesitated, then she shook her head quickly. "But you mustn't! What you must do is rest!" She said, trying to usher me onto the resting area. I pushed her away, and made my way to my feet once more. My legs shook rigorously, and I stumbled. I was beginning to fall, but I regained myself. I half walked half dragged my legs to the door exit. The nurse stood there begging me to lay back down but I ignored her. The only thing on my mind was Goldenshot and figuring out what he did to me. I opened the door, and stumbled out of the room. The nurse screamed after me, but I was already gone.

I used the wall as support, and made my way through the building until I reached a familiar set of stairs. One way lead up to the boys dormitory, the other led down to the Headmaster's room. So the sign said that had been plastered just above the staircase. I took one step down the steps to the Headmaster's room and my legs immediately gave out on me. I went tumbling down the stairs helplessly and went crash landing onto the floor where the stairs had stopped. I moaned, pain coursing through my body from bouncing on the marble flooring. Right in front of me was the Headmaster's room, and the door was open. I moved onto my stomach and forced myself into a crawling position. I dragged myself over to the door in front of me and I knocked on it. I heard the sound of someone clearing their throat, then came a familiar voice. "Come on in Diana." Diana? Was Goldenshot expecting someone? I crawled in the room and I almost threw up. In the middle of the room was Goldenshot.

He was wearing a half buttoned collared shirt with plaid sweatpants. He had a rose in his mouth and he was surrounded by scented candles and a selection of movies he must've set out. Low slow music was playing in the background. He was laying on his side almost identical to the poses I would see in funny romance movies. Was it just me, or was this room dimly lit? Goldenshot immediately spit the rose out and backed away from me. "Um, was this a bad time?" I asked him, beginning to feel I should run. An icy gust of wind circulated through the room, quickly putting out the candles. I slowly began to back out of the room, until I slipped and fell hard onto the carpet. I looked down, and I was laying on ice that wasn't there previously. "Wwhat?" I slowly eased myself back into a crawling position, struggling due to the ice. Goldenshot rushed past me before I could fully get back up and he closed his doors. He turned and stared hard at me. "What are you doing here after hours?" He boomed at me. I slipped on the ice again and crashed hard onto my side. Goldenshot rushed over to me and grabbed me by my shirt. "DO NOT PLAY DAMSEL IN DISTRESS WITH ME BOY!" He screeched in my ear. "NOW TELL ME WHY YOU'RE HERE!" He continued to yell at me.

This man obviously has a deathwish if he thinks he can put his hands on me.

I sat up the best I could and I cleared my throat, trying hard to ignore the nauseating feeling swelling in my stomach. "Tell me how you did it."

I demanded of him. "Tell me how you do the thing with the ice." I tried to come out with it sounding tough, but it sounded more soft and wimpy than I liked. He looked at me for a second, then he cleared his throat. "You're that boy who wouldn't shut up during that assembly, am I correct?" He asked me. I narrowed my eyes, I had questions, and he ignored them. "So what if I am? You're not answering my question!" I shot back. He let go of me and got up. I watched him walk over to a wooden desk and rummage through some stuff I couldn't see from where I was sitting. "Why aren't you answering the question?" I yelled. He waved away my question and continued to rummage through his desk. I forced myself onto my knees despite the restriction of the ice and I glared hard at Goldenshot. Before I could speak again, he closed his desk drawer and looked at me. "Why don't you try making an accurate guess on how I control ice." He said, causing me to pause. I thought about it for a second, then I came up with my answer. "I would like to believe you have some sort of way to combine elements." He shook his head. "Nope" "Do you have some sort of quick freeze ice machine?" "No" "Combining temperatures?" Goldenshot shook his head and cleared his throat. "You aren't very creative, are you?" He asked me. Is he stupid? "I'm very creative, probably the most creative student this place has ever seen." I answered back honestly. "Is that so? Tell me then, what would your response be if a child told you he could turn into a giraffe?" He asked me, his eyes seemingly searching mine. "That's an easy question, I would tell the child he's stupid for believing such ridiculous things." I almost laughed at how pathetic that question was. A child cannot turn into a giraffe. Goldenshot's eyes narrowed, and he nodded. "What if I told you someone could breathe underwater without ever going up for air?" He questioned me again. "That's genetically impossible actually. The lung structure and oxygen needed for the heart to keep pumping would never allow someone to survive underwater for more than five minutes." I answered back quickly. How is someone this stupid our Headmaster? He should know breathing underwater is impossible. Goldenshot chuckled and cleared his throat.

"You really don't have any creativity do you?" He asked, only causing himself to laugh harder. I could feel my cheeks burning but I ignored it. "Why are you asking me these things? All I came down here for was to figure out how you used that ice trick, and now I'm getting judged on my creativity?" I felt my fist tightening, and I envisioned myself strangling Goldenshot. He choked while he was laughing, and he could barely contain himself. The harder he laughed, the worse I felt. I should've stayed in the nurse's room. I waited for him to stop laughing, which took a few minutes. After he finally calmed down, he looked up at me as he wiped the tears away. "You're entirely too serious kid, you'll never get a girlfriend like that!" Goldenshot said, shaking his head apparently amused. I resisted the urge to put this old man in his own grave, I had to get my answers first.

I opened my mouth to talk, but Goldenshot cleared his throat. "You're a life defect son." He said, his face suddenly becoming serious. Before I could question him, he cleared his throat again. "Your issue is that you question everything, you're always serious. You never tell a joke. You can't take a joke. You're confident about your abilities, and you're quite smart." I opened my mouth, about to question him but he rose a hand to silence me. "You people, you life defects.." The way he said that felt like I got knee'd in the gut, hard. "People like you don't do well in society, and you'll face hardships unknown to those who have normal lives." He continued. This was my opportunity, questions almost came flying out of my mouth like a cat escaping from hell. "What does this have to do with you somehow freezing me? What do you mean life defect? I'm perfectly normal! And how come you don't act like a headmaster?" "Shut up" He demanded I stopped talking. "Your questions irritate me." He said again.

"But I don't understand!" I defended myself. "Maybe shut up and listening is the way to understand" He sighed, checking his clock behind him. "It's getting late, take this medicine." He said, flashing a bottle with a red like murky substance in it. He tossed me the bottle, which I barely caught with the tips of my fingers. "What does this do, why are you giving me this?" I asked him after I regained my balance. Goldenshot stood up, and opened the doors behind him. "This medicine will heal your injuries, and give you an unknown power!" He said as he reached for my shirt. He yanked me up and easily tossed me out of his room. I looked up and quickly tried to get to my feet, but I collapsed again. He closed the doors with a loud thud, and I didn't know how to get back upstairs.

Chapter 2: What Awaits Me:

Zeke:

I flushed the toilet and walked over to the sink. I began washing my hands and I looked in the mirror. Ever since I've started putting those weird spices in my food every night like Goldenshot instructed me, I've noticed changes. My eyes went from blue to red, and I don't get cold or hot
