Nathan turned to the guys in his group and asked them what they did back on Earth. Their answers didn't come as a surprise. One was a tier one pilot and the other was a super class sniper for the Central Intelligence Agency. He didn't need to ask anyone else about their former life on Earth to deduce what was right in front of him but he went ahead and did it anyway.

Neurosurgeons, chemists, chemical engineers, biologists, computer scientists, inventors, physicists, psychologists... they were all there. The brightest minds of his generation all happened to be survivors of the planet's destruction.

Nathan finally figured it out. They didn't survive, they were picked. They were all there because of their intellectual abilities. Were the others left behind because they weren't geniuses? That was completely unfair.

"Group four. If everyone else was standing aimlessly, we wouldn't get any work done." Alan's voice brought Nathan back to the present.

"Sorry." They chorused.

"You're in charge of handling supplies. Get the materials to the teams that need them." He beamed a professional smile and got back to work.

For the next couple of hours, Nathan and his team were moving materials from one location to the other. As time went on, things got easier for the team. They even began to have fun with it, throwing and catching the lighter items in the bunch of supplies. Nathan pushed his latest discovery to the back of his mind for the time being. He would get back to it later, when he had the time to explore.

Finally, they were done for the day. Nathan spent the much needed fifteen minute break re-hydrating and chatting with a few of the guys. He said goodbye to his team and headed off for his next scheduled assignment – water extraction.
