Nathan closed his eyes and waited for the end. What he heard instead was an annoyed voice barking orders.

"Turn the damn alarms off, you incompetent bastards."

"I'm sorry, Colonel." Another voice replied.

It was such a relief to know the alarm had not gone off to Nathan's presence. His interest spiked one more time when he heard the angry voice from before speaking again.

"What was the death toll from our missile launch?"

"About two thousand." The other voice replied.

"Wait for twenty four hours and then claim responsibility for the attack. Those idiots at the Pentagon need to know there's a new boss in town."

"Yes, sir."

"I want the next attack in forty eight hours, while they're still running around like headless chickens trying to figure out what's going on."

"We'll get right on it." The other voice replied.

"While you're at it, make sure the dumb idiots here are ready to fight. I don't have all the time in the world. The takeover should be complete in a month."

"Yes, sir."

The voices were now too distant for Nathan to make out the distinct words being said. He had to wait at least five minutes after the voices completely disappeared before venturing out of his crack.

Nathan always prided himself in his ability to control his emotions but right now, he was plain angry.
