Both Sébastien and Ava were happy to sit in each other's presence, even though not much was said at all. They were currently seated in his study where he was busy typing away on his laptop while Ava had claimed the couch as her own with a book in her hand.

It was peaceful, she thought. To just be around him. He had a certain presence around him where it was hard to keep her eyes off him even if he was barely doing anything at all.

Every now and then, she snuck a glance his way to simply admire him. His shining hair, perfect face, and those strong hands which moved at impossible speeds as he typed. But she didn't want to be a creep and stare at him all day, so she tried to do it stealthily. Even though he seemed so busy he probably wouldn't even notice if she stood up to look at him a little better.

She did feel a little guilty about not doing any work herself, but there really was nothing to do right now and she couldn't be bothered to wash the already perfectly clean bedsheets in the unused guest rooms. Even if it was part of her job.

"Ava," Sébastien called out, catching her attention. She put the book in her hand on the couch and walked over to him. "Yes?"

"Come here," he smiled while holding out his hand, making her walk around the desk before sitting down on his lap. He immediately wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer to him and against his chest.

"Have I already told you how beautiful you look today?" he murmured before kissing her neck, causing her to giggle. "As a matter of fact, you have."

"Hm," he continued, "You deserve to hear it more than once."

His lips let go of her neck and set to work on her own, which she happily went along with. His soft lips kneaded into hers before his tongue demanded access before slowly and seductively entering her mouth.

His rough hand went from her hip to her ribs to stroke them softly up and down. In response, her own hands went into his hair before gasping when he sucked on her bottom lip. She felt him smirk before stroking her tongue again and it felt so good she had to work not to moan.

But her efforts were in vain as the hand on her ribs suddenly moved down and under her shirt. The skin contact was a little too much and she let out a soft moan, spurring him on.

When they pulled apart to catch their breaths his gaze lowered to look at her lips and that same smirk returned to his face. She could only imagine what he was seeing, she could practically feel how swollen her lips were now.

"I have to go to Europe soon," he started, only pausing to gauge her reaction. "You can come along if you want to, but it won't be a vacation and I'll be too busy to take you anywhere," he explained. "It's purely for business purposes."

"I think I'll stay home then," she replied with a small child. She wouldn't know what to do when left to her own devices in Europe and staying at a hotel for however long didn't sound terribly exciting. Her only regret was that she was going to miss him for the duration of that trip, but she'll survive.

"It'll only be for a few weeks. I can take you to Europe later this year if you want to. To have a proper vacation?"

"I'd love that," she smiled at him. She'd never left the country and the prospect excited her as well as made her a little nervous. But there wasn't much that could go wrong with him at her side. She wondered what places he had in mind, but thinking of his French heritage she suspected Paris was among them.

"Good," he smiled before kissing her, but she stopped him before it could go further. "Wait," she said. "When are you leaving?"

"In a month and a half, I'll have to prepare some things and my partners as well."

"Good," she smiled while wrapping her arms around his neck. "That means I'll have you all to myself until then."

"And what are your intentions with me, Ava?"

The intensity of the words made it hard for her to come up with anything as her mind drew a blank. She was terrible at flirting but he didn't seem to have too much trouble with it as he continued, "Because I can think of a few things," he made a move to kiss her again but a knocking on the door interrupted him.

Ava quickly got off his lap and almost ran back to her spot on the couch, causing him to laugh. To his credit, he did wait until she was seated again to reply with a 'come in'.

He hadn't even finished it and Lauren had already swung open the door to swiftly walk in, only stopping when she reached his desk.

"Something wrong, Lauren?" he asked. The older woman's face had been grave when she passed Ava, so she could understand his concern at the moment.

"It's George, Sébastien. He had a doctor's appointment today but didn't return. Not did he return my phone calls. I contacted the doctor's office and they told me he'd been admitted to the hospital but weren't at liberty to say what for."

"What?" was all he managed to reply, as if he couldn't quite make sense of what he was hearing. She had never seen him like that before, and it scared her. His calm and composed demeanor had changed into one of frantic confusion while he leaned forward to listen to Lauren a little closer.

"George, boy. He's at the hospital. You should go see him."

"Yes," he replied blankly, seemingly having gathered his composure but Ava could see that he was just suppressing his emotions and her heart bled for him. She hoped George would be okay, for his sake but also Sébastien's.

"Will you come too, Lauren?"

"No, but call me when you know anything," she replied, making him nod.

"Ava?" he asked, turning his eyes to her. She could only nod, but he seemed to understand as he stood up. "Thank you for letting me know, Lauren. You can go home."

She nodded at him and turned to walk out again, nodding at Ava as well when she passed. Ava could see the old woman was in distress just as much as he was, but she too kept it all in. Ava wished she had the same strength.

"Are you okay?" she asked quietly, seeing as how he still stood at his desk while staring at the door. Her voice seemed to snap him out of it as he blinked before nodding. "I should... Probably get some of his clothes and things. For if he has to stay longer, I think."

"That's a good idea," she assured him with a small smile. "Do you need help?"

"No, I'll be done quickly. Just get ready and meet me at the car," he said before moving towards the door. Just as he was about to pass her, her hand shot out to grab his, causing him to stop in his tracks. But he didn't make any eye contact. In fact, she felt as if he was actively avoiding it.

"You know," she started before pausing to find the right words. "You know that whatever happens, we'll go through this together. You can talk to me."

After a second his eyes shot to hers and he looked absolutely lost. "Thank you, Ava."

With a sigh, he let go of her hand and walked out, leaving her to wonder if she could've said more to support him. Why was she always useless in the moments he needed her? While he always knew the right things to say whenever she was feeling down.

There was nothing left to do right now but to gather her things and wait for him in the car. She'd hate it if he had to wait for her.

She briefly remembered George's coughing the week prior and wondered if that had anything to do with it. She couldn't imagine it wouldn't, it sounded terrible.

But she was glad he went to the doctor with it, knowing how stubborn old men could be. Now he could receive the help he needed so that he may get better.

He had to get better, she thought. Losing him would destroy Sébastien.
