The bar was loud and not all that well-lit, but the atmosphere made excitement build up in her stomach. It was crowded, but not overly so and every type of person imaginable hung around.

They'd driven some time to get to another town, as their own didn't have the 'right' bar as Sébastien had said it. What that meant, she didn't know.

But the crowd of people also made her uneasy. It was hard to move around without touching anyone but luckily Sébastien's grip on her hand was strong as he pulled her along through the crowd.

It was evident a lot of people had been in there for a while from the smell of beer entering her nose. The loud music apparently made it hard to hear people and people were practically shouting to be heard by their friends.

She liked the layout of the place, it was modern yet had that classic bar feel. The only thing she didn't like was the darkness which made it hard to see the people around them. This was also the reason she didn't recognize Everly until she almost bumped into her having a heated discussion with the man next to her.

"Then you shouldn't have put it there!" she hissed accusingly while pointing her finger into the man's chest. His curly hair hung just above his eyes and every now and then he had to reach up to move it away from his eyes.

"It's my house I can put it wherever I want," he huffed with a frown.

"It's mom and dad's house you moron, you don't own any of it," she retaliated. It was at that moment that Ava could see it. He was her brother.

It should've been obvious from the beginning just by looking at their faces but Ava blamed the lights for that.

"Sébastien!" a man yelled out, making the rest of them turn to look at them. They were standing around a high table in the middle of the bar and there seemed to be about ten of them.

"Ava!" Everly called out excitedly before turning to hug Ava. "I'm so happy you're here, now I don't have to talk to them anymore," she laughed and Ava wasn't sure how much of it was a joke.

"Everyone, this is Ava. My girlfriend," Sébastien said, putting emphasis on the last part. The men greeted her back and Sébastien started introducing each of them to her. There were too many names to remember all at once but she did catch Everly's brother's name, Thom.

She politely smiled at each of them while waiting for it to be over. She didn't like having all those eyes on her at once.

When the introductions were over they all quickly went back to their conversations, much to Ava's relief. "What do you want to drink?" Sébastien asked her, almost having to shout to be heard.

"Um, a coke?" she asked unsurely. She didn't even like coke, but she didn't want to drink water in a bar. "Sure," he said before turning to Everly. "You?"

"Scratch that! There are cocktails without alcohol in them, you should try one. Can you get two?" Everly offered up. The option hadn't even crossed Ava's mind but she nodded. As long as there wasn't any alcohol in them. "Alright, yeah. I'll have one of those," Ava said while turning to Sébastien, who nodded before taking off.

Ava watched him disappear into the crowd of people before turning back to Everly. "Thanks for coming, really."

"Yeah, no problem. I needed to go out anyway," she replied before shaking her head. "The only downside is having to ride in the same car as that idiot over there."

"You guys don't get along?"

"Never have," she shrugged. "But it's fine, this means he'll have to drive next time. Wait, do you have siblings?"

"No, I'm an only child," Ava replied. As far as I know, she added in her mind. She hadn't really told Everly where she came from, but she didn't see any reason to.

"Damn, I wish I was an only child," Everly pouted. "Hey Sébastien, didn't you have a brother or something?"

Ava turned to look up at Sébastien who had just arrived with their drinks which he carefully set on the wobbly table. By looking at the spilled liquids it was clear the table had already been bumped into a few times.

She knew he had a sister, and that she didn't make it to adulthood. But she'd never heard him talk about a brother of any kind, making her curious for his answer.

"No, I think you mean Stan. George's son," he replied while moving to stand behind Ava while wrapping his arm around her waist, sending butterflies into her stomach and her heart speed up from the public display of affection.

"Oh, right. Yeah, I think that's the one. Where did he go?"

"Finished college and moved to Europe. I think he's doing really well but I haven't seen him in some time."

Ava had heard George talk numerous times about Stanley, but Sébastien hadn't mentioned him once. But they had to have been pretty close for Everly to mistake him for a brother, seeing as there weren't a lot of people living in their little town.

"Oh, wow. Good for him," Everly nodded. Two of the guys closest to them called out to grab Sébastien's attention and he turned to talk to them but didn't let go of Ava. He held a possessive grip on her waist, as if he wanted to know where she was without having to look.

And she didn't mind at all. It gave her a feeling of security in the crowded bar and eased her anxiety.

"By the way," Ava started. "Didn't you have to work tonight?"

"I actually managed to get the day off. But I'm glad you mentioned it. You still haven't come by the restaurant! I told you I'd get the cook to make you the best spaghetti Bolognese you've ever had."

"I know, and I really meant to stop by but I've just been so busy."

Busy with Sébastien, a voice in her head whispered.

"I'll come by soon, I promise."

"You better! But forget about it for now. Tonight is all about having fun! Cheers!" Everly said while holding up her mocktail, causing Ava to do the same with a smile. "Cheers!"

Hi guys!

I've added two chapters today because they were both very short!

On my Patreon everything up to chapter 41 is available (which is a SPICY chapter) so check that out if you have no patience lol at patreon.com/mayskyfire

What did you think? It's a bit of character development but a necessary one. Wouldn't want poor Ava to only be in the house all day, would we?

Alright, see you guys later!

xx May
