Castiel and Millie stood outside for a while, just enjoying each other's company. In this moment did the angel realize how dependent he had become on the human girl. He wasn't dependent on her to keep him safe, but she made him feel calm, and most importantly, she made him feel human, in the most amazing and extraordinary way possible. She didn't mind him being an angel and she treated him good, like a real friend, like someone she cared about and was afraid to lose. And she was.

Millie had started to care for Castiel in a way she never had expected. She didn't care that he was an angel, in her eyes it made him even more special. The duo had gotten to know each other on a spiritual level after Sam died and Dean left the hunter life.

Flashback

Dean had just left, and Bobby and Millie sat in Bobby's living room, not sure what to do. They knew they had to keep going, but right now was everything feeling empty. Sam and Dean were gone, sure they could call Dean, but he left the life, he wanted normal, and they were not going to drag him back without a good reason. After two days, Millie left. She needed to do something, so she packed her bag, hugged Bobby good-bye and drove away.

After having checked into a motel, Millie went to a bar, ready to drink away her grief of her youngest brother. Later that night, Millie was drunk and had brought back a guy from the bar back to her motel room, just wanting to get lost in the night. The stranger was kissing Millie's neck as she was laying on the bed, not caring about anything in the moment. He started undressing himself before starting to undress her. Suddenly Millie felt sick, she didn't want some stranger in her bed, this was just a coping mechanism because she needed to feel something other than sadness. She jumped up from the bed before running to the bathroom and closing the door.

"What the fuck? Are you ok?" the guy called from the other room.

Millie was shocking back tears as she spoke up "Yeah, just a bit sick, maybe you should leave"

"No way, I'm not leaving, you owe me this"

Millie actually felt like she was going to throw up now. He was one of those guys, the ones who buy you a drink and expect sex in return. She was quite drunk, but she was sure she could knock him out if she had to. Millie emerged from the bathroom, a towel covering her body, not wanting him to see more than he already had.

"There you are" the guy spoke up, standing in nothing but his boxers.

"I think you should leave" Millie spoke up, not wanting to deal with him at the moment. He walked closer to her as he told her "No" as he called her slurs and getting more and more angry for being rejected. When he was close enough to Millie, she punched him in the face, making him fall to the ground. She jumped on top of him and punched him again and again until he lost conciseness.

Millie sat on the bed with just her comforter covering her body as she looked at the guy still laying on her floor.

"Fuck" she whispered to herself. As she contemplated her options, only one seemed reasonable. She pulled out her phone before she called Castiel. Moments later he was in her motel room.

"What happened?" Castiel looked at Millie with worry.

"I happened..." Castiel gave the girl a look signalizing her for to elaborate. "I was drunk and brough him back here and then I regretted it and well... he didn't take no for an answer, he wouldn't leave so yeah... I did that... can you help me get rid of him?"

Castiel didn't say anything as he walked over to the guy and healing him before getting him out of there.

"Thank you" Millie said when Castiel came back.

"You're welcome" he stared at her with a blank face before he was gone.

A couple of days after Castiel had helped Millie with the body in her motel room, he popped into her room again.

"Ahh see how showed up again" Millie was drunk once again, or she hadn't really sobered up since he last time was here. She hardly slept after Sam went to Hell and memories from her time in Hell had started to torment her once again.

"Are you drunk?" Castiel asked, getting worried for the girl.

"Why do you care?"

"Millie... I do care"

"You left, ok? You left when Sam died and Dean left, and you left the other night... it doesn't seem like you care much"

Castiel was silent, not knowing how to answer the girl, "Of course I care, it's just..."

"Angel stuff? Yeah, it's ok, I don't need you checking up on me, I can handle myself".

"I know you can handle yourself, Millie. But you don't have to be alone".

Millie stood by the table in her motel room, packing her bag as they talked, getting ready for a hunt, her first hunt alone in a long time.

"Are you leaving?" Castiel asked when the girl didn't answer him.

"I'm going on a hunt"

"Alone?"

"Yes, I'm a hunter, it's what I do".

"I'll come with you".

Back in Millie's motel room she and Castiel sat on the couch after a successful hunt. Millie had to admit, it was nice having Castiel with her. Her mind felt as ease and not filled with depressing thoughts as it was when she was alone. Millie was drinking a beer as Castiel tried to understand the references made on the television show they were watching. After a while Millie walked out of the bathroom drying her hair after her shower.

"I'm going to bed, you want to stay on the couch or something?" Millie asked, not really wanting to kick the angel out.

"It won't bother you? Dean always threw me out when they needed to sleep".

"No, you can stay, I won't mind".

A couple of hours later Millie woke in a jolt with Castiel sitting on her bedside. She had a nightmare again and it was not pretty. Tears were streaming down her face and sweat was covering her body. Castiel touched her arm, trying to calm her down, her heavy breathing starting to slow as she felt the angel's hand stroking hers.

"What happened?" Castiel's voice was filled with worry.

"Nightmare" Millie looked up and locked eyes with Castiel, "they have gotten worse since Sam died".

Castiel wasn't very good at interpret human emotions, but after getting to know Millie and her brothers, he had gotten better at it. He pulled the girl into a hug, shocking both himself and Millie as he did so.

"Thank you" Millie said, still tears rolling down her cheek. Castiel stood up, took of his jacket before walking to the other side of the bed and laying down.

"You need more than two hours of sleep, come her, I'll stay with you". Millie didn't question the angel as she laid down and fell asleep again, this time sleeping till morning.
