Chapter Thirty Nine

Kiss And Make Up.

Anna

Ten days now.

For the last five days, nothing else happened. I wanted to talk to Luke and I tried too many times to approach him, but he would walk away or never notice. It was just the same old routine, which now really proves that my life is boring as heck. Fun.

Day six.

Sleep. Eat. Mum dragging me to the gym. Going home. Shower. Eat. Sleep.

Day seven.

Wake up. Go to school. Luke ignoring me. Going home. Eat. Homework. Sleep.

Day eight.

Wake up. Go to school. Usual ignoring. Going home. Eat. Homework. Sleep.

Day nine.

Wake up. Go to school. Ignoring. Going home. Eat. Gig. Sleep.

Day ten

That's today and all that happened till now is wake up, go to school, ignoring and I'm currently waiting for the next thing to happen.

"Guess what?" Sophie smiles excitedly.

"What?" I ask, glancing at her with a smile before I place all the textbooks and the homework sheets in my backpack. The amount of work that we take can break my back.

"I applied in Melbourne," she beams.

"That early?"

"Yup. Application deadlines are at the end of March," she informs me.

"What about you guys?" I ask the rest of the girls.

"Edinburgh," Colette raises her hand.

"I'm still not sure," Riley responds. "I think it will be something in Brazil."

"What about the guys?" I question.

"Alex applied in Melbourne too," Sophie pitches in.

"Zach's going to Oxford," Lottie says.

"You got anything yet?" Soph asks me.

"No," I sigh.

"Don't worry, Anna, I'm sure you'll get accepted," Riley assures me.

"I hope so," I close my locker and I swing my backpack over my shoulder.

That's when a group of people start rushing outside and I knew that this is definitely another dramatic crisis. When will the drama ever stop? Right, it's my life. It will never stop, even when I'm up in heaven or down in hell, who knows.

I see Jewel quickening outside and Sophie stops her. "Hey, Jewel. What's going on?"

"There is a fight between Cameron and Seth," she replies before she continues walking outside.

I only know one Cameron and one Seth in this school.

I look at the girls before the four of us run outside. I go in the parking lot and I find a huge circle of people with two heads in the middle and I spot Cameron's. I push through the people with the girls following me, until I make it to the front and I see a black eyed Cameron beating the crap out of Seth who is bleeding from his lips.

"Anna," Sophie calls for me, nervously as I quickly go and pull Cameron back, telling him to stop.

"What are you doing?" I tell him with wide eyes.

"The asshole was talking shit about you!" Cameron spits and Seth stands up, wiping his lips.

I turn to Seth and I stomp over to him, glaring. "What is wrong with you?"

"What?" He shrugs nonchalantly.

"Don't you ever learn?! I told you that I'm done with this, then you freaking go on and pick a fight with my brother?!" I point at him. "Listen to me, Seth, stay away from me and my family or I swear to God, I will beat the crap out of you and even a cast won't fix your body!"

"Beat the crap out of me?" He scoffs. "You're a weak person, Anna. You can't do shit. You think that going around smiling and laughing is the true way to hide your feelings when you are really just a weak person. Anastasia has been dead for eight years and yet you still cry and weep over it secretly. The right thing to do is move on, but you're still stuck on it because you're a weak person."

If it's even possible, my glare hardens and I have the urge to punch him in the face. "Back the fuck off," a deep growl comes from beside me and I stare at Luke with shock as he glares at Seth after he pushed him.

Seth stumbles a bit before he steadies himself and he smirks at Luke. "Carter, huh? What are you both?" He gestures to me and Luke. "Friends now? The bad boy and the freak? What an amazing pair. You know, Carter, I remember you. You used to mean a lot to Fiona. She was such a good girl. See? Now that's a pair; the bad boy and the good girl. Too bad she chose me over you. I wouldn't be surprised. She chose what's good for her and I'm sure as hell it wasn't you."

I watch as Luke's eyes get narrower and his jaw clenches. I'm actually scared that he might punch Seth. I'm not scared about Seth, I mean. I'm scared about Luke.

"She really was something," Seth continues (he really wants to get punched). "It sucked that she moved, but her best friend though," Seth turns to me and he holds my chin. I'm about to push him away when suddenly I find Seth on the floor with him clutching on his nose.

"Don't fucking touch her," Luke warns Seth with the glare still on his face and I see his knuckles turning a faint red.

Luke just punched Seth for me.

Oh well, he deserved it.

Seth springs up and punches Luke in the face and my eyes widen. The both of them start swinging punches and hits at each other, while I just take a step back and watch everything with wide eyes. I see Zach and Alex trying to get in the fight, but Seth's friends hold them back.

"Stop it! You're hurting him!" I yell at Seth as he repeatedly punches Luke in the stomach.

"Anna!" I hear Colette calling me in worry and I signal for her that I'm fine.

How did this take a freaking U-Turn?

My stomach clenches from watching them and I grab Seth by the back of his shirt before I punch him as hard as I could in the face and I hear a crack. Seth drops to the ground with his nose seeping blood and I gape at him with a few moments, then I remember Luke and I quickly rush to his side.

"I'm so sorry. This is all my fault. Are you okay?" Luke raises a bloodied eyebrow at me. "Right, sorry. That was stupid. You're not okay." He wipes his lips and cringes at the sight of blood.

"How messed up does my face look right now?" He asks.

"Do you want me to lie or be honest?" I smile a bit.

"Be honest."

"You look like you were in a really bad fight," I reply, drawling out 'bad'.

"Did I win or lose?" He winces in pain.

"Definitely won."

"Good enough," he leans his head back on the ground.

Principal Collins comes outside and when she sees Seth clutching on his nose and trying to get rid of the excess blood, me sitting down by Luke's side and Luke laying down on the floor looking like someone stepped on his face, her eyes widen and she stares at us with shock.

"The three of you," she points at me, Luke and Seth. "To my office. Now."

"Can someone please explain to me what happened?" She asks, leaning forward on her desk, but nobody answers.

"Miss Falls?" She raises an eyebrow at me as if she's waiting for an explanation.

"Well, you see..." I start. "I found Seth and Cameron fighting and since Cameron is my brother and there's a strict 'no fighting' policy in the school, I broke it off and Cameron told me that Seth was talking in a...bad way about me. I kindly told Seth-"

"What?" Seth cuts me off. "You literally told me-"

"I suggest you shut up," Luke tells him.

"Mr. Carter," Principal Collins says warningly.

"Now, Mr. Dickinson, please hold on," she holds up her hand, silencing him.

"As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted," I see Seth rolling his eyes at that one. "I told Seth to leave me and my family alone and to stop bothering me, then he called me a weak person and Luke, as a great friend, came to my defense.

"Seth insulted Luke in a way that I wouldn't really like to explain then Seth turned the subject back to me and Luke punched him, which is considered defense and protection.

"I know that it sounds bad, but Luke was just defending himself. Seth punched him back and they both started fighting, but I stopped it by...well–punching Seth," Principal Collins' eyebrows shoot up and I quickly rush to explain that I was defending myself and I even brought law into it. I should become a lawyer instead.

She turns to Luke. "Mr. Carter, is this true?"

"Yeah," he replies.

She sighs and rubs her temple. "Look, punching a person is not acceptable and I get that you were defending yourself, but it's still unacceptable in school."

"I understand," I say sincerely.

"You do?" She asks in confusion and surprise.

"Yes, I completely understand. It wasn't right of us to pick a fight up and I apologize about our behaviour," I tell her.

"Oh...well, that's good, but I still have to give you detention for breaking the school's policy," she says and I nod. "Same thing for you, Mr. Carter."

"You are both dismissed," she waves us off. "However, Mr. Dickinson, we will be having a small chat."

"Thank you, Principal Collins," I smile, standing up.

"Of course, Miss Falls."

Luke and I exit the principal's office, then I turn to Luke and hold my hand out. "Your car keys?"

"Why?" He frowns.

"Just give them to me," I instruct him and he slips his hand in his pockets to get his keys then he hands them to me.

I grab his hand and drag him to the parking lot. I locate Luke's black car and we march over to it. I get in the driver's seat, while Luke gets in the passenger's one and I drive away to Luke's house, while trying to avoid trash cans and people. And yes, I almost ran over a man. Thank God, he didn't notice that I was about to turn him into a pancake.

Seeing Luke's house coming closer, I press on the gas pedal and I reach the house before I turn off the car, get out of it and Luke follows me.

"Where are you going?" He asks when he notices that I'm heading to his house instead.

"Can you open the door or just tell me where the keys are?" I request.

"Spare key under the pot," he nods to the plant pot next to the mat and I crouch down to grab the key from underneath it before I unlock and open the front door. I place the spare key under the pot again and walk inside the house, closing the door after Luke walks inside too.

Luke trudges to the couch and throws himself on it, grunting slightly. I go to the kitchen and grab a small bowl, then I fill it with warm water. Honestly, I have no idea what I'm doing. My mum and Netflix TV shows always do that when someone gets hurt and I'm just following their actions. I find some of those cotton ball thingies under the sink and grab some of those. Finally, I walk back outside with everything in both of my hands.

I take a seat next to Luke and turn to him. "Now stay still while I fix all of that."

I dab a cotton ball with water and wipe blood off of Luke's lips, nose and cheeks, then I grab another cotton ball and dampen it with more water to clean the injuries. I hope you're right about this, Netflix.

"There is rubbing alcohol under the sink for that," he informs me.

"I know," I dip another cotton ball in water, before I continue cleaning his face. "But alcohol doesn't help with healing the wound and it harms the tissue." I place the reddish bloodied cotton ball next to the pile of the others and Luke grimaces, turning his head away.

I grab the cotton pile and the bowl and walk inside the kitchen, then I dump the stained water in the sink and throw away the cotton balls. I take an ice pack from the freezer and walk back outside. I sit next to Luke and hand him the ice.

"Press it against your jaw," I tell him and he does as I told him.

I sit there, awkwardly looking around before I courage myself up and turn to Luke, getting ready to apologize.

"I'm sorry," we both say at the same time, then we break down laughing.

"You go first," we say at the same time again.

"It's fine. You do," Luke and I say again, then we both crack up.

"I'll go first," Luke chuckles. "I'm sorry, Cherries. I was just mad at the way you were treating Jennie and I was mad at her too for talking to you like that. I did a stupid mistake by taking it all out on you when you didn't deserve it. I have no idea how Jennie knows about your anxiety or your sister. I didn't tell her anything. Hell, I never even brought up anything related to it. I was an asshole to you, maybe even a bigger asshole than Seth."

"That's not true, but go on," I gesture for him to continue.

"To end this cheesy shit," he takes a deep breath. "I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?"

"Of course, I forgive you," I smile at him and he grins in relief. "I'm sorry too. I do trust you, Luke and I know you would never tell Jennie anything. I was just worried that you might forget about our friendship and seeing you with Jennie kinda made me a little bit jealous because you were always hanging out with her. I guess jealousy just took the best of me; that I accused you of something I know you would never do,"

I bite my lower lip nervously. "Do you forgive me?"

"Of course, I do, Cherries. I could never stay mad at you for too long," he smiles and I smile back at him.

"So, best friends?" Luke stretches out his hand.

"Best friends?" I raise an eyebrow teasingly.

"Hell yeah," Luke responds and I laugh.

Even though I like Luke a lot and it would be great if we were more than friends, I still appreciate our friendship and I would do anything in order not to lose him. It's not like I was expecting us to kiss and makeup and I don't mind that one bit, because for now our friendship means so much to me than that and I won't let anything stupid ruin what we have.

I throw my arms around Luke to hug him and this time, he hugs me back. "Best friends," I whisper to him and he tightens his grip around me, burying his face in my shoulder.

"I just realized something," Luke says, pulling away from me.

"What?"

"You punched Seth," he responds.

That's when it really dawns on me. I punched Seth. I actually did the one thing that I've always wanted to do. "Oh, my God! I did!" I beam excitedly.

"Yeah," Luke grins proudly.

"And so did you!" I exclaim in enthusiasm.

"Yeah!" He agrees with an huge smile.

"High five!" I hold up my hand and Luke slaps my hand with his.

Day ten.

Wake up. Go to school. Get involved in a fight. Make up with Luke.
