JAKE'S POV ❤️

It has been three days now. Three days since that creature moved into our house and I still felt angry. I still felt frustrated that no one was fighting to find Ebony. I know she is somewhere out there and I know she is waiting for me to find her. I don't care what this creature says about her....she is not my Ebony!

"Jacob the vampire..." There she was again at my door. "Are you ready to talk to..."

"No." Take a hint creature. I don't care about you. Fuck off already.

"Oh, okay. I just wanted to tell you that... I hate you."

I turned to look at her with fury on my face. "Excuse me?"

"I...I just...I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry but I had the sudden urge to tell you that I hate you...I don't by the way..." the creature held onto the door frame as she stuttered at me with complete fear. "I'm sorry Jacob the Vampire."

"Get away from me." I snarled at her. "You are not Ebony, and I will find out who you are. Then you will be in a world of trouble."

"I'm sorry you feel this way. I understand that the two of you were close and I want to help you...."

"You can help by going the fuck away from me. You might look like her but you are nothing like her. You sicken me. You take her form and then try to sneak your way into here...I'm on to you and I will prove you are not her."

"You are right. I am not your Ebony. I am the creature that kept her safe and gave her life. I protected her when she was hurt and I healed her when she was sick. I don't remember anything about the life she leads but I remember her. I remember listening to her talk to herself about everything. I remember her thinking about a vampire that made her laugh and tingle when he tickled her. I remember the feeling of relief she felt when she found out he was not completely dead. I have been lost in my memory of Ebony and I know it's not the same as yours but I do remember her joy when she was around you. You are the vampire she called Jake yes?"

I froze at her words. I wanted to throw my bed at this creature for making me doubt myself. No, this creature is trying to manipulate me just like she did the others and I won't. I won't be weak and give in to her. Ebony needs me.

"Get away from me," I growled at the creature as she took a step back. "Don't you ever use my girl against me like that again. You know nothing about her. You killed her and I will prove it if it's the last thing I do. You will pay for hurting my friend." I stood up not taking my eyes off her. "If you want to die today then keep talking," I growled through gritted teeth.

"I understand and accept your terms Jacob the vampire. I am sorry you feel this way. I can feel your friend Ebony's sadness inside me. She cries for you at night. She cries about leaving you alone again and wishes you could feel her again. She misses you." The creature disappeared from my doorway as I lunged toward it. How dare that filthy creature talk to me like that. I will kill it in its sleep. That's what I'll do. I will rip out its insides and drink its blood until it's nothing but a pile of skin and bone. I will avenge my best friend and nothing is going to stop me. NOTHING!

I walked towards the creature's door as it sleeps. I know what I have to do to end this for everyone. I know that creature killed my friend and took her body and know I need to end this before it kills us.  That's not Ebony. It ends tonight.

"Jacob, what are you doing up this early?" Shit! Bossman. Fuck!

"Hey, yeah boss. I couldn't sleep so I thought I would go for a walk." Damn it, he needs to go.

"Yeah, I'm not sleeping that well either. In fact, I'm not sleeping at all." He looked like hell. There are dark circles under his eyes and his hair was a mess. This was not Carter Morgan. This is what's left of him now that she's gone. He won't fully recover from her death until that creature is gone. I had to help him. Help my family heal.

"Well, I won't keep you. I'll let you go and get some rest." I smiled and turned away from him.

"Did you end up talking to...her?" He said with caution.

"Ummm, yeah. I guess you could say we had a little chat about things." I gritted my teeth as I turned to look at him.

"You did? That's wonderful to hear Jacob. I understand your reservation towards her but she needs us right now and I need to know this hard for you. This is your home as well and I need to know that my boys are okay. You are all I have right now. I need you to be honest with me." He gave me a slight smile as he fixed his hair. "Do you need anything, Jacob? Do you need to talk?"

I felt sick as I watched him. Carter Morgan was THE vampire. He was the strongest and fiercest vampire to ever be created and here he was looking like death and pacing a corridor like a madman.

"I know this is difficult Jacob. I know you miss her and I do too. Every second I miss her but you have to understand that inside that creature is our Ebony. I can feel her when she calls me. I can feel it when she smiles and when she cries. I can hear her cry for you Jacob and it's starting to concern me. Why is she so upset Jacob? Why is Ebony crying over you?" Carter crossed his arms over her chest and glared at me as he raised his eyebrow sharply.

"I have no idea what you are talking about?"

"Really?" He took a step toward me. "I trust you, Jacob. I trust you with my life, I trust you with my son's lives and I even trusted you with Ebony's life. You have given me no reason to ever distrust you....until now and this makes me quite upset Jacob."

"Again boss, I don't know what you are talking about. I never hurt Ebony." I suddenly felt very uncomfortable in his presence and he glared at me.

"I see. So you have nothing to talk to me about? Nothing is troubling you at all? You are just peachy with your undead life." I'm not liking his tone right now. That was his angry tone.

"Boss, look I'll admit that I'm not handling Ebony's death in a good way. I just don't believe she is gone. I want to find her boss. I want to help her and bring her home..."

"I know you do. I know you miss her but I need you to know something son. That creature in there...that creature that has been trying to talk to you for days is Ebony. She is inside that creature Jacob and she is devastated that her friend is so upset and lost when she is right in front of him. The next time you talk to the creature I want you to look into her eyes...I mean really look and if you don't see what you're looking for then you can go ahead a kill it. I won't stand in your way again. I promise you." He held up his hands. "Just do as I ask and then we will have this conversation again. Agreed."

"How did you know?"

"There is very little I don't know Jacob. Very very very very little. Do you understand me? Don't break my trust boy because you will regret it." He patted me on the back hard as he walked away. "Good boy Jacob." He called back over his shoulder as he entered his room.

"Fuck me." I groaned leaning against the wall and looking up at the ceiling. "What is he talking about?"

"Jacob the vampire." I sighed as I heard her voice to my left. "Are you alright?"

"Yep, I'm fucking fantastic." I kept staring at the ceiling hoping it would go away.

"Well, I'm glad to hear this. I will leave you to stare at the ceiling as this seems to make you happy." I felt her brush past me and I closed my eyes as Ebony's familiar scent filled my lungs. "I am sorry that I upset you. I truly do not wish to make you mad. I will stay away from you from now on." I heard the click of the door as she turned the knob.

"Why are you here?" I said surprising myself.

"I was checking on Cayden as he was unsettled. I will make sure I do not make contact with you again." She walked into her room.

"No, I mean why are you here with us? Why?"

I heard her steps stop and then silence.

"I was sent here." The creature almost whispered from the room.

"By who?"

"I do not wish to upset you Jacob the vampire. I no longer wish to have this conversation with you."

"Who told you to come here? I need to know." I walked to the door and looked at the creature.

"She did. The human Ebony told us to find Carter...to find you. Please don't yell at me." She took a step back with fear in her eyes. "I only answered your question."

"What did she tell you?" I said calmly still not looking directly at her.

"That you would protect us from the darkness. That you would look after the baby." I looked at her and saw tears form in the eyes of the creature as she waited for my reaction. "I can hear her cry for you sometimes. I can feel her trying to talk to you but I cannot hear her words....not all of them anyway."

"You understand I don't trust you, creature. I have no reason to trust your words..."

"I know and I'm sorry."

"This is my family and if you hurt any of them, I will hurt you until you beg me to stop. Do you understand me?" I suddenly remembered Boss's words to me and swallowed my pride as I took a step closer and looked into its eyes.

"I can assure you Jacob the vampire...I will not hurt any of you. I have nothing but the memory of Ebony's voice and it's hurting me right now to hear her so upset. I wish you no harm and if I could bring her back to you I would, but I cannot. I'm all that's left of her and I wish more than anything I knew her as you did. I wish I could have what she had but I cannot because this is not my life. This is not what I was created for and sooner or later I will be destroyed by the darkness for my betrayal. I have delivered the baby and that's what is important. I brought her baby into this world and now I have to live with my choice. I have no regrets though. I believe that this is the right path and whatever my fate is I will accept it." The creature took a deep breath. "Please Jake, I need you to listen to me...."

I  saw her eyes twinkle at me as she said my name. I felt a strange pull towards the creature like I knew it. I felt my body react to her words just like it used to.

"What did you call me?" I gasped out.

She froze. "I'm sorry Jacob the vampire, I don't remember what I said." She covered her mouth with her hand.

"How did you do that?"

"Do what?"

"How did you make Ebony talk to me?"

The creature shrugged her shoulders softly and shook her head. "I don't know."

"I need to go." I turned towards the door. "Just keep your distance from me for a while and we will be fine," I said over my shoulder.

"I miss you, Jake."

I stopped at the door as she said my name again. I felt that familiar rush through my body as I heard her words. I knew it was Ebony. I could feel her sadness and it terrified me. She was there inside that creature. I knew it was her. "Tell her I'll be okay. Tell her I just can't do this right now...Tell her I love her...I always will." I stood there for a second as I shook off those feelings and then ran as fast as I could away from that house without looking back.

Ebony.
