EBONYS POV

"Hello?" I called nervously into the darkness around me as I brought my knees up against my chest on a cold hard floor. "Carter?" I called softly as a tear fell down my cheek. I knew I wasn't in the vampire world anymore. This place felt different, it smelt like ash and smoke but the air around me was freezing cold. My senses were buzzing with anticipation as I could feel every inch of my skin sensing danger or some kind of threat. A threat I hadn't faced before, yet I wasn't scared of it. I had no feeling of being scared even though I knew my body was telling me I should be. I just felt alone and empty like my very being had been ripped out of me, and now I was nothing more than an abandoned shell. Nothing to anyone. I looked around at the darkness trying to feel something, anything. I knew I should be scared and I should be running from this strange overwhelming darkness but I didn't move. I didn't even twitch a muscle as it felt somewhat familiar. Somewhat calming to me.

"Hello?" I called again softly searching for some kind of life around me in this cloud of darkness. I wasn't sure if I even made a sound as my mind suddenly went quiet.

"Welcome home." A deep, gravelly voice said close to me. "I've missed you." It whispered in my ear. I spun around quickly, looking for the owner of the voice, but nothing was there.

"Who are you?" I whispered into the dark. "Where am I?" it was hard to talk and coughed as my lungs filled with smoke.

"You don't remember me? I'm hurt." The voice said in my ear. "I remember everything about you."

"Stop playing games and tell me what you are," I demanded. I felt a spike of fear flow through my veins like ice as the darkness laughed at me.

"I always loved your fiery side." The voice almost laughed at me. "Most would fear me but not you. No, you challenge me,  and I love it."

"What do you want from me?" I crawled back on the cold hard floor looking for any sign of an escape. There has to be something here.

"I want you to remember who you are." The voice again said, right in my ear. "I want you to remember what you are."

"What do you mean what you are? I'm human." I cried out, still searching in the dark. "I know what I am."

"You only know what I told you to know." The voice said all around me loudly. "You only remember being human because I told you too."

"Stop playing this with me. You are making no sense, and I don't understand.."

"I'm telling you to remember." The voice bellowed at me. "I command that you remember what you are immediately."

"I don't know what you are talking about. Remember what?" I spun around frantically looking again for the source of the voice, but there was nothing but darkness. I waited for the sound to yell at me again but instead, the space around me was filled with nothing but a deafening silence. I slowly stood up and looked around nervously, waiting for something to happen.

"Hello?" I called out taking a step forward and trying to find my bearings. "Please! I don't understand what you want from me or who you think I am? I'm just a human..."

"You are not ready." The voice said sternly. "I thought you were ready when you heard me in the forest, but you are not. You are of no use to me anymore."

"Just tell me who you think I am."

"I don't have time for this. You were once my greatest creation of war and destruction, but now you are nothing more than a filthy pathetic useless human. You disappointed me. I gave you everything, and you gave it all away for nothing. I should have known you were weak. You were weak and alone when I found you, and you will always be a disappointment."

"Who do you think I am?" I threw my arms up in complete frustration. "I don't even know who you are, let alone who the fuck I am. Tell me, or I can't help you."

The air around me suddenly went silent again, but this time, I could feel something watching me in the darkness. I could feel my skin crawl as I turned around in the room in circles looking for who was taunting me.

"Answer me this then; Am I dead?" I cried out.

"Yes." The voice growled softly and slowly behind me.

I suddenly felt instant sadness grow inside my chest, and it hurt as it spread through every inch of my body. I felt tears run down my cheek as I let the realisation of death sweep over me.

"Where am I?" I whispered, wiping my cheek.

"That is not of your concern right now." The voice said in front of me. "Your concern is whether or not I require you anymore." I saw a dark strange figure stand in front of me. I recognised it instantly as the mysterious figure that I had seen in the cave before. "You see me now, don't you?"

"What are you?" I said, taking a step backwards.

"You know what I am Ebony." The dark figure took a step toward me. "I named you after me when you were created. I am you. I am the blood in your veins and the hair on your head. You are my image and greatest achievement. You must remember." Two big yellow eyes were now staring at me from the dark figure. "I know you feel the connection. I know you felt it when you died."

"I don't feel anything. I don't even believe that I'm dead."

"Well, technically, you are right. You didn't die this time." The dark figure smiled.  "You can't die if you are already dead, can you?"

"What are you talking about?" I stumbled backwards as its words swirled in my head. "What do you mean already dead?"

"Oh, that's right. You don't know, do you?"  The dark figure laughed at me.

"Know what?" I was becoming impatient with its smug attitude.

"I do forget how simple you are sometimes Ebony. Being with the humans for so long now has really affected you. I blame myself. I should never have allowed you to be treated this way, but it all worked out in the end, I suppose."

"Stop with the dramatic monologue already and just tell me," I said through gritted teeth. "Get to the damn point."

"There's my girl." It laughed once more. "I knew you were in there." The figure stopped and stared at me for a moment. "I guess I'll have to start at the beginning won't I?" The figure smiled at me with wickedness. "This is going to be a blast."

CARTERS POV

"Ebony, you need to wake up now." I held her lifeless body in my arms as I touched her beautiful face. "Please baby, come back to me," I begged her resting my head against hers. "Don't leave me."

"What do you mean the spell isn't working?" I could hear Ariel shouting at the witches behind me. "Then try harder." He bellowed.

"We are trying everything we can. We cannot find her. She is not in this realm anymore. We are searching for her everywhere, but she is not here." The witch elder said nervously. "This isn't possible. We can always find the spirit of the past...this just isn't possible."

"Then I will find her." Ariel snapped at them.

"Baby, please wake up. I'll do anything to have you back." I kissed her cheek softly, and she felt cold. "Anything..."

"Anything? Really?" I heard a voice behind me. "When a creature like you makes a deal like that, one cannot help but overhear it."

I turned my head slowly and slightly to the right only to see the one face I never wanted to see again. "What do you want?" I said through gritted teeth.

"Now now, Carter." The devil smiled. "That's no way to speak to an old friend, is it?" He flashed a smile at me. Today he looked like that human idiot Donald Trump.

"What have you done to her?" I growled.

"Me?" He scoffed. "This is not my doing. I'm not that stupid." He laughed. "No, this is the work of something much more powerful than the both of us I'm afraid."

"Nothing is more powerful."

"I thought so too old boy, but there is. In fact, your family's blood is the very reason for its power." The devil shook his head. "So really, this is your fault."

"My fault? How dare you. I had nothing to....Blood?..My blood did this to her?...No, it couldn't be! The darkness? The darkness did this to her?"

"There you go, big boy. I knew you weren't as stupid as I was told." He winked.

"The darkness has, Ebony?"

"Well, technology the darkness is Ebony."

"You had better tell me everything before I do something I know you'll regret." I snapped at him.

"Calm down, Geez!" The devil pressed his finger to his lips. "Shhhhh. If that brawny angel thingy hears of this, he will fuck everything up!" He pointed to Ariel, who was still talking to the witch elders. "We need to be careful here, buddy, boy. If the darkness finds out that we know, then we will never get your little human back. That and the hope that she doesn't regain her powers and try to take over the world again."

"Excuse me?"

"I'm amazed you never figured it out. I mean I just found out, but I wasn't the one banging her." He smiled, wickedly at me. "You are going to laugh when I tell you."

"I doubt it." I clenched my first together.

"I did. I should have seen it but I was so convinced that you and your brother were my enemies that the girl just went about her business. She's good. I'll give her that." He slapped his leg as he laughed. "Always suspect the pretty girl Carter. They are always in charge."

"If you don't tell me what the fuck you are talking about right now I'm going to snap something you won't like." I grabbed onto his shirt collar and pulled him closer. "You may be the devil, but we both know who will win the fight," I growled right in his face. "Try me?"

"Alright! Damn." He pushed himself away from me. "Why do you always have to resort to violence? It's very unhealthy for a vampire."

"I'm waiting."

"Fine. Geez." He fixed his collar. "Your dear wife is dead. As you can see, there is nothing there anymore." He picked up her arm and let it flop to the floor. "Nothing." He sighed. "Sad, but I do know where she is."

"Where?"

"The reason no one can find her soul or her energy anymore is that she has once again reverted to her original form. The form she had even before you were a hitch in your daddy's pants. That's a right friend. Ebony Summers has returned to her original form as the darkness. The very darkness that has haunted your family for centuries. The very darkness you are trying to kill. Ebony is the darkness and was created by pure evil to destroy your family. I know, right? Marriage...it will fuck you up every time." He laughed.

"That is not possible. Ebony is not evil."

"She is Carter. My sources tell me that she had no memory of it being human. You know how simple those creatures are and when she took that form, she lost most of her powers, but she did get you. She gained your trust, and that was more power than she needed. You were going to destroy your brother, and then they were going to kill you, but she didn't remember that part and screwed everything up and so now she's dead." He shrugged. "All well. Bitches be crazy right?" He hit me in the arm.

"You are lying to me," I yelled loudly. "Such bullshit. I know my wife, and I know this is just a trick to get me to trust you. I'm not a complete idiot, and I will kill you before I take your side."

"See, this is why no one likes you, vampire. You get angry and start threatening everyone. I'm just here doing a brother a favour, and you yell at me.."

"Get out of here. Get out before I make you." I bellowed at him. "Don't you dare make up these lies to me. I will find her by myself, and I will kill both of you."

The devil stood up and glared at me. "You just threw away your only lifeline to the darkness and your wife. Don't call on me in future because I will not answer. You just made yourself a very powerful enemy. You really are a stupid ignorant creature aren't you." His eyes turned blood red as he stared down at me on the floor. "Oh, and if I happen to find her first and I will...Dibs." He hissed at me before disappearing.

"Carter, was that who I think it was?" Leon said, walking towards me.

"Get everyone in here. We have a problem." I ordered as I touched Ebony's face softly. "Don't worry baby, I'm coming for you."
