I woke up with a jolt as I felt my head hit against something hard. I groaned slightly as I looked around at my new surroundings. Where am I?

"Watch the corner, you dipshit," Jake yelled from the black leather seat across from me as he punched the dark window behind him.

"What the hell? Where are we?" I sat up and looked around. "Wait, are we in a car?"

"Limousine, thank you very much," Jake said, repeatedly banging the window behind his head. "Vinnie, for fuck's sake." he bellowed to the driver as the car came to a sudden stop, and he nearly toppled forward.

"How did I get here?" I rubbed the side of my head.

"I had to bloody carry you." he snapped as Vinnie's head appeared through the small window from the front of the limousine.

"Hello there, my pretty lady. I missed you." he smiled. "You look delicious today." He winked at me.

"If you're looking here, who the fuck is driving Vinnie?" Jake yelled, pushing Vinnie's head back through the window. "Unbelievable."

"Wait, you carried me?" I sat up and pulled my jacket up to my chin.

"Oh please, don't flatter yourself. You were passed out, and boss made me do it. So that you know, I carried a fresh corpse just before you. It's in the trunk. Vinnie suggested we put you in the car and not in the trunk with the corpse." Jake said in disgust. "Say thank you to Vinnie." He gave me a wicked smile that made my skin crawl.

"Thanks," I mumbled, feeling incredibly uncomfortable.

"Anything for you, my darling. You can pay me back in sexual favors later." Vinnie yelled from the front seat. Jake smiled and nodded approvingly.

"Where are we going exactly?" As we drove, I looked out the window at the bright streetlights shining in the darkness.

"WE are going to a job. YOU are staying in the car. That's it." Jake snapped, glaring at me.

"Where is Mr Morgan?"

"None of your fucken business. That's where he is." he snapped again aggressively.

"Oh, how lovely. I've always wanted to go there myself. I hear it has lovely weather." I sarcastically shot back at him. I just got a growl in response as he turned to his side and crossed his arms over his chest. I'm pretty sure the words 'Pathetic' and 'Fucktard' were said under his breath.

The rest of the drive was spent listening to Vinnie try to stir up Jake with rude comments about his sex life and his hair. Jake always reacted to the hair comments. Good to know.

The car stopped outside a building with lots of flashing lights and people making out in front of it. I'm assuming this was the brothel they spoke of on the plane.

"You stay, do not move. We will return, and until then, you will stay in this car. Do you understand?" Jake yelled slowly in my face like I don't speak English.

"What was that? I didn't quite hear you," I said, making a face and cupping my ear.

"That's all I fucken need tonight, a smartass human who thinks she can talk to me like I'm a fucken ....." I didn't hear the rest of that rant; he slammed the door shut in my face as he exited the car. He turned around and made a face at me through the dark window and then flipped me off with both hands. Vinnie just blew me a kiss and then rubbed his crotch as he winked at me.

I watched as Jake and Vinnie walked towards the flashing building. Jake was pulling his shirt sleeves up his arms, and Vinnie was doing practice punches in the air as he walked across the road. I was now left in a strange car in a foreign country with vampires who didn't like me. This was hardly my dream job. I sat at that car window for what felt like an eternity. I watched people walk into the flashing building but never seemed to walk out again. I must have stared at this building for hours from my window, wondering what the hell was going on.

Are they even coming back?

My phone rang loudly in my pocket, and I pulled it out. "Hello?"

"Human, get out of the car now and run."

"Jake?"

"You need to get out of there. They are coming. Run and hide." Jake yelled at me.

"Who? What are you talking about."

"RUN, DAMN IT!" He bellowed, and without hesitation, I did as he instructed. I opened the car door and ran into the darkness of the night. It only took a few seconds to realize why I had to run. I turned to see at least ten vampires. I'm guessing they were very angry vampires who ripped the car apart with their bare hands. They were looking for something in that car, and whatever it was, they were not going to give up.

I hid behind a huge dumpster on the corner of the dark street. I figured the smell of the rotting food might stop them from smelling me. I watched in complete fear as these creatures devoured the limousine and then became more furious when they realized whatever they were looking for was gone.

"Where the fuck is it?" A huge vampire with tattoos all over his body yelled.

"He said it was here. He fucken played us." another yelled, hitting the remains of the now smashed-up limousine.

"Where is the human? I can smell they had a human in here. Where is it?" the tattooed vampire growled as he smelt the air. My heart was racing so much that I couldn't breathe. I was gasping for air, which I suddenly realized was making a loud sound they would surely hear.

"Find it and bring it to me NOW" he yelled so loudly I'm pretty sure it could break glass.

I gasped with complete fear and covered my mouth as I shifted along the dark wall, and then I just ran. I didn't know where I was going. I just ran as fast as I could. The tears in my eyes were now falling down my cheeks, making my eyes sting as the cold air touched them. I was terrified, but I couldn't stop running. I just wanted to go home but I ran down dark streets and over bridges. I just ran without any regard as to where I was going.

I suddenly tripped over something on the street and landed on my knees and hands with a thud, hitting the hard concrete floor beneath me. I fell forward with complete exhaustion, scraping my chin and cheek, but I didn't have time to stop and check it out. I just got up and ran again.

Eventually, I couldn't run anymore. My heart was aching, and my legs were starting to feel like they were made of stone. I literally couldn't keep going anymore. I collapsed against a brick wall under a streetlight and let myself breathe in the cold air as I gasped with every breath. My heart was still pumping so hard it hurt, and I thought I might have a heart attack. My knees were severely grazed, blood dripped down my legs, my hands felt like they were on fire, and my chin stung as the cold air blew past it. I let my tears fall from my eyes and down my cheeks as I didn't have the strength to stop them anymore. If they found me now, I could do nothing to stop them.

I picked up my phone and called Jake, no answer. Fuck!

I called Mr Morgan, but he didn't answer, so I left a message.

"Sir, I don't know what just happened back there, but the car was attacked, and they were looking for me, and Jake told me to run. I don't know where I am, and I ...." BEEP. The message bank cut me off. I cried a little more as I tried to think of a plan. I had to get home somehow.

"Excuse me, miss, are you ok?" I heard a deep voice say before me, making me jump.

"Who are you? What do you want?" I yelled, pulling my aching body off the ground and using the wall to stand. "Don't touch me."

He held his hands up in front of him. "No, no, I'm not going to hurt you. My name is Phil. I live up there in the building across the street. I saw you collapse here and wanted to ensure you were ok. You look hurt; I can take you to the hospital?" He had short dark hair, was quite tall, and had a beautiful red rose tattoo on his neck.

"You don't sound very French?" I said, taking big breaths.

"Well, that's cos I'm Australian. I moved here to work. Do you need the hospital? You look hurt. Did someone do this to you?" He said, taking a step forward.

"I... My car was just... I ...."

"Someone crashed into you?"

"Yeah, kind of, I guess. They chased me, and I ran. I hurt myself, but I couldn't stop. I need to call.." I coughed, struggling to breathe.

"Can I call someone for you? Boyfriend? Husband?" He said, taking another slow step towards me. "You look hurt. I can help you."

"I don't have anyone here except my boss, and I can't get a hold of him. Are you going to hurt me because...."

"I'm not going to hurt you. I promise I want to help." at that moment, my legs gave way, and I collapsed to the floor but was stopped by a pair of strong arms around me, pulling me towards a broad chest. I could smell strong cologne around me, and it made me cough slightly.

"Miss Summers, are you ok? I'm sorry I missed your call. Are you ok?" I looked up into the aqua eyes and handsome face of Mr Morgan. I was in his arms, and my head rested on his shoulder as we sat on the ground. I was relieved to see him.

"Are you mad? I didn't know what to do, and Jake told me to run, so I did, but I couldn't find you, and then I called you, but you didn't answer."

"Ebony, are you ok?" He repeated.

"I think so, I fell, and then I couldn't run anymore, and this nice man came over to help me." I sat up and pointed to the dark-haired man who was no longer there. "Where did he go?"

"It's ok. It doesn't matter. We must leave quickly, though. This is not a safe place to be right now," he said, standing up with me in his arms. "You did the right thing in those situations; you must always follow your gut. I will make those responsible pays for this." his voice was suddenly low and gruff, and even though I was terrified of what just happened, I felt safe being in the arms of this vampire.

He carried me to a black SUV just down the street and put me into the passenger seat. He walked around and got into the driver's seat.

"How did you find me?" I whispered, watching him drive.

"I always know where you are, Miss Summers. No harm will come to you. I promise you that," he said, keeping his eyes on the road.

"Thank you for coming to get me,"

"You are my responsibility now, and I will make sure that you are safe. As long as you work for me and are loyal to me, no harm will come to you. I can assure you." he glanced at me slightly before returning his cold eyes to the road. "Stay loyal to me, and you will find I'm not as bad as people think. I will always find you and always make those responsible pays," he growled.

"Ok." was all I could get out as my body was too sore to think about anything else at that moment. "Ok," I whispered again before passing out.
