How did I end up here?

Not the best, but I like the idea. I got lazy and didn't try to make my writing that nice. Still has a good plot, and is understandable.

Morgana was there. Taunting Merlin. Trying to find a weakness. She didn't want to kill him, just use him to get to Arthur. This had been an on going process for a while now. It wasn't working, and most likely never would. Merlin's loyalty was astounding.

Perhaps there was a different way. A way to bring Merlin to her side... but what. A persuasion spell? No, not strong enough. What about an illusion of Arthur betraying him? Merlin would be able to see past it. He had seen past similar illusions. There had to be another way. All the time Merlin had spent with Arthur had made him far too loyal. Too many memories.

Wait... that was it! Memories! What if Morgana got rid of all Merlin's memories in Camelot? Then she'd leave him somewhere and make it look like he'd bumped his head really hard. Make it look like Merlin has amnesia! Arthur will be rude to him, and because Merlin hasn't been won over yet, he'll be easy to persuade. Bam, Ally! Yes he won't know anything about Arthur, but he'll be more willing to share what he does know.

Quickly she mumbled a spell to know him out, and then another to rid him of the times he'd had in Camelot. She knew the spell had only put up a wall that could easily be taken down with a magical surge of power. It would take three druids to remove it.

Gaius liked to remain scientific. It wasn't likely that he would check for a spell. He'd assume it was amnesia just as Morgana hoped.

........

Waking up Merlin found himself in a strange place, with a pain located on the top of his head.

This new place was made of stone which indicated being underground, yet had natural lighting. There were windows with captivating blue. So he was in a castle. Why was he in a castle? Ealdor was nowhere near a castle? His mother had sent him away to learn to control his magic... Camelot. That was his destination. Had he made it?

There was shouting coming from behind a door, before it burst open. There stood a man in chainmill. Perhaps he was a knight.

"Merlin?" The person spoke with worry in his voice. Then he began coming closer.

As he neared, Merlin noticed his prominent cheekbones, his dirty blond hair which glimmered in the light and the worry evident in his blue eyes. He looked familiar. The look in his eye was throwing him off though.

"That's me," he told the man quietly. Where was he? Merlin was at a huge disadvantage. He knew not the people here, the setting or even how to get out. This man was a potential friend or foe. Better to be on the safe side.

"What happened? Are you okay?" The strange person asked.

Merlin shrugged. "I'm not sure what happened, but I'm okay."

The dirty blond haired man sits next to him. A breath of air was let out, that he had apparently been holding. Did this man know Merlin.

"Gaius almost didn't let me in. He told me I needed to go to the meeting, but I needed to make sure you'd be there tomorrow?"

What?

"I'm sorry, but who are you? How do I know you?"

The strange man seemed astounded."You... you don't remember me?" After seeing Merlin shake his head he continued, "I'm Arthur Pendragon. Ring a bell? Prince of Camelot? Royal prat you work for?"

Once again Merlin shook his head. This was... Arthur Pendragon? The son of the man who despised magic enough to kill anyone with magic. And he worked for him? When did this happen?

"I'm sorry, I find this hard to believe, but me, working for the royals of Camelot? Believe me, there's no way I would accept a job like that."

"Well under the right circumstances, you did. Do you really not remember me?"

Merlin shook his head again, causing Arthur to sigh. "I'll leave you be then Merlin. I still expect you to be back at work though. I'll go easy on you for a bit. Gaius should be here soon." With that, the saddened muscular man in chainmill left.

Gaius? Wasn't that the person his mother had told him to find? Perhaps he'd found where he was supposed to be.

.......

This castle was a bloody maze full of traps. The amount of times he'd gotten lost in one building both mortified him, and amazed him. He hadn't even seen the whole castle yet.

Merlin kept getting Daja vu thinking he'd already seen things before, so he'd assumed that was because he had. The memories were supressed, but somehow they were still there. Waiting to be found. He was simply unsure how to reach them. Once he'd figured out how, he would have control over his life. At least more than he had at the moment.

All around him, people recognized him, greeted him, and asked how he was doing. This was rather awkward due to Merlin not knowing the people who had spoken to him.

Often times he had to ask these many new people for help. They often called him by his name even if he hadn't told them his name. Their advice was always helpful. Without the many people he'd asked for help, he'd probably still be wandering around near the dungeons or be cleaning clothing completely wrong.

Arthur had said that he was going to go easy on him. That was either a complete lie, or else his job was incredibly hard. The prat was super demanding, and didn't have a lenient bone in his body. Then the amount of times the Prat insulted him hurt a lot too. What had happened to the worried man he'd fou d at his bedside when he first woke up?

Confusion and sadness were taking over Merlin's life. He had a bully for a boss, he couldn't remember anything, and he didn't know who he could trust. If Merlin was honest with himself, he would say he was depressed. Seeing an execution of a sorcerer hadn't helped. At all.

There was another strange factor to the madness that was his life. He'd saved Arthur twice from people looking to kill him. Merlin didn't know why he'd saved Arthur. The only thing the prince had been was a complete prat. Like now.

"Merlin, I'm going to need my boots polished, along with my armour, sharpen my sword, and help the stable hand with cleaning. Hurry up when you're doing it will you? You've been taking forever." With that he left.

Being exhausted, he grabbed the boots tiredly as a tear slipped down his face. Then another fell. Why me he thought. What did I ever do to deserve something like this? More tears fell. Within two minutes of Arthur leaving, Merlin was full on sobbing. How did I end up here?

"Oh and Merlin one last-" Arthur had walked back in to give him more work. Then he stopped seeing the state Merlin was in. He'd never seen Merlin truly cry before. Yes, there had been tears, but not sobbing. Arthur hadn't the slightest idea on what to do.

Sitting down next to Merlin, he attempted to put his arm around Merlin. He had stopped when Merlin had flinched away.

Maybe he'd have to ask what was wrong. That made sense to Arthur. "Merlin, what's wrong?" Arthur hadn't expected the response he got.

"I don't know, maybe it's waking up in a new place, new people, with a job that I have no idea how to do. A bonus is my boss very obviously hates me, and the only reason I'm kept around is because I saved your life once so your father won't let you fire me.

Then two people tried to kill you the other day, and somehow I was the only one that noticed! Twice! I don't even know why I saved you, but I did. What do I get in return? Insults and chores! This obviously happens more often because of all the scars I have, but I'm just so overwhelmed.

Gaius keeps giving me chores too, and preparing for a hunting trip when you don't know where anything is, is rather hard, not to mention frustrating," this was all shouted between sobs. Everything from the week had just built up, causing him to explode.

This time, Arthur gently pulled him into a hug, while whispering "I'm sorry, I should've gone easier on you, please forgive me. I don't know what I'd do without you. You're always there for me, but when you need me, I'm not there for you. I'm such a prat, you're right."

Let's just say things got emotional. Arthur and Merlin crying onto each others shoulders, reassurances and promises. The thing Arthur had left to do earlier wasn't that important and could wait.

This emotional meeting lasted about an hour before the tears had finally stopped. Merlin had been reassured and now knew why he stuck around. The person in front of him was kind, hard working and knew how to help when he saw an issue. It was seeing the issue that was the hard part for him. Sometimes he had a few problems expressing his emotions too. Growing up with only one parent could do that to you.

"Merlin, know I'm truly sorry for being such a prat." Merlin nodded in response. "I'll try to be kinder and no understanding, but it might take a while for me to stop being such... a clotpole."

By now, Merlin had completely leaned into Arthur's touch. It was so gentle. So safe. Nothing could make this moment go badly. It was far too perfect.

Arthur's doors burst open, and it was followed by a screeching, "No! I was supposed to comfort him! He was supposed to be on my side! I was finally going to get my revenge!" A lady with long black hair had come in. "Merlin, why must you ruin everything for me! I took your memory to destroy your loyalty to... him!" She pointed to Arthur with disgust.

"Wait, you did this? You took his memory?" No emotion was portrayed in this sentence. Somehow, both Morgana and Merlin realized just how angry Arthur was.

Morgana nodded with a smirk. "And he'll never get it back!" If she couldn't get Merlin on her side, then she would cause as much suffering as she could. Now here she was. In the castle in front of Arthur and Merlin with no one to stop her from using magic.

She knew exactly which spell she was going to use to. It was a killing curse she had found. If ahe muttered the spell at a person, then they would drop dead immediately after.

Dramatically she shouted the spell and shot it at Arthur. It was intercepted by Merlin. He got hit by it instead.

Merlin fell with a thud. This shocked both Arthur and Morgana.

"Merlin?" Arthur asked worriedly. "Merlin?" Shaking him, Arthur got no response. "What have you done! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE MORGANA!!!"

When Arthur looked up, he didn't find the proud smirk he had been expecting, but a horrifed look which was accompanied by liquid near her eyes. She had me right to cry over Merlin. Yet she did. Because she never wanted Merlin to die. He was a lovely person. His jokes, the pure kindness that fills his soul, and his loyalty to those he loved. The poor boy did not deserve to be dead.

"Arthur Pendragon, it's your fault that he is dead! It should've been YOU!"

'WELL MAYBE IF YOU DIDN'T SHOOT THE SPELL HE'D STILL BE ALIVE! I WAS PLANNING ON LETTING MAGIC INTO CAMELOT YOU KNOW! I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE! MERLIN WAS THE ONE TELLING ME MAGIC WASN'T EVIL LIKE FATHER SAYS!"

"YEAH RIGHT!" Right after she shot a spell at Arthur. Arthur jumped out of the way and raced for his sword.

Neither noticed Merlin's eyes go gold, or him floating into the air. They did notice the large flash of light that came after though.

There was Merlin, hanging limply in the air, surrounded by a gold light.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM MORGANA?"

"THE SPELLS NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THIS!" She cried out in fear.

Then Merlin floated back to the ground, landing on his feet. The gold never left his eyes.

"Arthur, I remember!" Merlin told with a smile. "Morgana took my memory.

Now Arthur was nearly crying again. This had been a long, stressful and emotional day.

"How?" There was Morgana. She had shot a death Curse, yet here Merlin was. Unfortunately, Merlin couldn't go explaining he was Emrys and therefore immortal, so he chose the next best option.

"Remember the wall you made in my brain that only a strong surge of magic could take down?" Morgana nodded. "Well, that took most not the force, leaving me with a nasty headache."

Then the three looked at each other trying to decide what to do next. Merlin thought it would be bed if he broke the silence.

"Could we just talk for a minute? No magic, no swords, just words?"

There were apprehensive nods before they followed Merlin's indication to sit down.

"Alright, so Morgana, could you explain why your trying to kill people in Camelot? I think it would help Arthur understand if you explained."

Morgana took a deep breath but started anyway. "I have magic as you know. Seeing people executed because they had it was terrifying when I was fairly sure I had it. So when I found someone that could help me and understood my problems, I completely trusted her. She told me that the only way for people with magic to be accepted into Camelot is if we kill you and Uther. That's why I've been trying to kill you. I don't know why I'm telling you this, but it's most likely because I nearly killed Merlin and owe it to him for hurting him so much."

This was going better than Merlin had expected. He'd thought Morgana would hex him for simply asking the question. She hadn't. So now he would have to take the next step.

"So Arthur, what are your opinions on magic?"

"I want to let it back into Camelot. Like Merlin has said before, Magic is like a sword. It's the person who makes its use evil or good. I'm still not totally sure though. I haven't met many kind sorcerers."

Now Morgana and Arthur were each looking at each other suspiciously. They weren't sure If the other had said the truth, but were hoping they had.

"And since we're making confessions, I have one too." Merlin took a deep breath, and stated "I have magic." Then he ran out. He would let them figure it out from there.

.......

Within a month, Arthur had dethroned his father and had taken over. Morgana was back in the castle and helped Merlin with decisions over magic. Gwaine had more apples now because one of the sorcerers that came had quite the green thumb and could easily make a ton. Everything was going well.

Then Arthur decided he'd give Merlin a heart attack. When they were hanging out together on a day they both had off, Arthur had asked if Merlin would be his boyfriend. Merlin had said yes, before fainting.

When Merlin woke up, Arthur had kissed him in relief. This only made Merlin faint again.
