I stepped in with Madison by my side making the nurse look up. She was young like she just got out of college.

"Hello, how can I help you?" She asked.

"Hi, I'm not feeling so good" I told her.

Her eyes filled with concern as she motioned me to sit on the chair.

"Is it your stomach? Throat?" She asked.

"Well I got sick before school and ever since I got here I've not been feeling good" it was some what the truth.

"Okay, can i take your temperature?" She asked while standing up and getting something out from the cupboard.

"Sure"

She stuck something under my tongue as she read the temperature.

"Your temperature seems normal, what's your name?" She asked as she started clicking away on her laptop.

"Maisie Jenson"

She typed and looked over something.

"You only missed one day of school, so you could go home if you want" she informed me.

"I'd like to go home please" I smiled.

She wrote a pass and looked at Madison.

"Oh, she's my sister," the nurse glanced at both of us, "and my ride home, my mom is at work" I added in quickly.

She nodded her head and wrote another pass and handed it to Madison.

"Thank you" I got up and left.

We showed our passed to the secuirty guards and left.

"I can't believe that actually worked" Madison smiled.

"Got to learn how to lie to make it through this world, sadly" I laughed.

A yellow Jeep was parked in the front with no doors attached to it.

As we got closer I saw Darren in the passenger seat with sunglasses on.

We hopped in the back and as soon as we got our seat belts buckled, Chance sped out of the parking lot.

The air was warm as we drove fast and out of the city. We stopped at the same beach where the party had their bonfires.

A couple of them were here in a small group.

We got out and I noticed that we didn't bring our swimsuits.

Darren started taking off his flowery shirt and jeans to reveal some basketball shorts. He also has a nice defined six pack. I quickly adverted my eyes to the ocean as the waves would reach out onto the shore and retrieve back.

"Are you coming?" Darren asked.

I nodded and quickly followed him.

"So, what's the point of the beach today?" I asked as I walked beside him.

"It's senior ditch day but everybody ditches on senior ditch day" he shrugged.

His eyes were a pretty green in the sunlight and his skin was perfectly tan.

I looked ahead ignoring his stare on me.

"You have really long hair" he stated.

I instantly grabbed my hair and observed it.

"Yeah" I agreed. It reached my hips when I left it down.

Again, Darren was staring at me.

"How'd you get that scar?" His finger lightly traced the long scar on the inside of my elbow to my thumb on my right arm.

I looked at the white line on my arm.

"Uhm..." I trailed off not really wanting to explain what happened.

"Come on, you can tell me" he said soothingly.

"Something happened with my ex" I simply told him. I looked at his facial expression. His eyebrows were pulled together showing a little crease between them.

"What was that something?" He stopped walking to face me.

"Can we talk about it some other time?"

He looked at me for a long time and nodded.

"Anyways, I really don't know anything about you" I sat in the sand.

He sat in front of me, "I guess not"

"What's your favorite color?" I blurted out making him smile.

"Lilac, I know it's girly but I love seeing that color because it's rare in nature and you can see it in the sunrise and sunset sometimes" he smiled looking away.

"That is a pretty color" I played with the sand, "if you look around more, there is lilac in nature"

"What's yours?"

I thought for a second, "A deep dark green, it's very calming to me" I looked at him.

We stared at each other for a little bit until he asked another question.

"Do you have a favorite book?" He asked.

I perked up with excitement, "Yes, I love books and out of all of them my favorite has to be To Kill A Mockingbird"

"Really? I'd thought you say something like Twilight or The Hunger Games" he chuckled.

"What? No, I love classic books, and I also love reading Shakespeare" I smiled.

"Shakespeare?" He looked at me like I was crazy.

"Yes, it's so interesting but confusing sometimes"

"Yeah, it is, any modern books you like?"

I thought for a second, "Well I loved reading Kira-Kira"

He was silent for a moment, "what's that about?" He asked generally interested.

"It's about this girl and her family. There's a lot of hardships and events that happen but one of the major ones is that her older sister gets cancer so they get piled with medical bills, and her mom gets pregnant. So, the girl tells the reader flashbacks of her and her sister before the cancer happened and in the end, her sister dies" I explained a short version.

"Wow" he breathed.

"Yeah"

"How many books have you read?" He asked looking me in my eyes.

"I don't know" I shrugged, "A lot?"

"Your seriously the first girl I've met that loves books"

"Oh" I got quiet. Is that bad?

"No, that's good" he smiled at me. I smiled back at him.

"So, what do you want to do after high school?" I asked him.

"I want to go to college and get a degree in marine biology" he shifted and looked at me. His back was facing me and he laid his head in my lap. I looked down at him as he looked up at me.

"What do you want to do?" He asked.

I was still frozen in place realizing what he just did.

Then I snapped out of it, "uh, I-I" I started blushing.

I took a deep breath as Darren started smiling at me, "I want to get degrees in journalism, literature, engineering, and architecture"

"Engineering?" He opened one eye, well, more of squinted one eye open.

"Yeah, like auto mechanics" I leaned back on my hands.

"Nice" he closed his eyes again.

"Yeah, cars always interested me, I just never knew how to work on them" I looked at the group and saw it was getting bigger and bigger.

"Hey you two lovebirds" Chance plopped down next to me followed by Madison.

I rolled my eyes while Darren grabbed sand and threw it at him with his eyes still closed.

Darren sat up so his head was no longer in my lap.

"You guys want to swim?" Chance asked us.

I looked at Madison unsure, but as usual she had no hesitation.

"Yeah!"she took off her flannel leaving her in a purple tank top and Jean shorts.

Chance took his shirt off and they both raced to the water. It was like a ripple effect because then some guys ran to the water and more and more people were in the water.

"Are you going to swim?" Darren asked while getting up.

I shook my head.

"Well..." He held his hand out, "at least put your feet in" I took his hand and he helped me up.

We were walking towards to water together and at soon as we reached the water, Darren scooped me up in his arms and started run further in the water.

"No!" I screamed trying to get out of his hold.

Soon enough he dumped me in the water. I closed my eyes and held my breath as I resurfaced.

The water came up to his hips while the water came up to my bellybutton. There really wasn't a height difference. We're both pretty tall.

My clothes were soaked and clung to my body.

I glared at him while he tried hiding his laugh, "I said I didn't want to swim"

He was amused, "Then why did you get in, silly?"

"Because you-" I groaned at his sarcasm.

"Do you like swimming?" He asked.

"By choice? Yes, by force? No" making him smile.

"So tell me more about yourself" he lowered himself in the water so only his head was showing.

"What more is there to know?" I lowered myself in the cold water to float on my back.

"Tell me about your childhood?" He looked unsure.

"Yeah" I nodded.

"Well, I've lived here my whole life, and stayed in the same house my whole life" I shrugged not knowing what else to say.

"How about... I'll tell the stories of my scars and you tell me yours?"

I thought about it, "Yeah, I guess so"
