CHAPTER 70

I'm a nervous wreck by the time I get home. Having been a little freaked out throughout the day by Charlie's words as she seemed more excited about finding out that Noah's taking me out tonight than I am. But she has also somehow got into my mind all these things that have me freaking out, telling me all these things that I never even thought of!

So Charlie is now the reason why I'm standing in front of my opened closet, staring at all the clothes hanging in here...and trying to decide what on earth I should wear, just like I have been for almost the past hour!

I know, I know...I don't usually spend ages choosing what clothes I should wear and right now...I feel stupid for even doing this. I don't spend ages choosing what to wear! That's not me!

And it's driving me insane!

I blame Charlie. This is all her doing.

I tug my hair frustrated, I give up. I really do. Letting out a sigh I groan and reach forward to grab my usual clothes.

No, no I do not care if this is not 'enough' or doesn't 'stand out' as Charlie says, claiming earlier that I should wear something different, something that will stand out to get Noah's attention...her words. Not mine. But no. That is what has got me all frustrated, deciding on damn stupid clothes. So no.

This is what I will wear.

Charlie can stuff it.

Smirking to myself as I can just imagine Charlie's disapproving look if she saw the clothes I'm going to wear. I tug on some black skin tight jeans before grabbing a white thin shirt that cuts away under my arms showing the black fabric of my bra.

I smile, finally happy with my choice. This is what I will wear....this is who I am. A random choice of clothing...and not sending hours deciding and changing outfits...

That is just wasting time..

Picking up a black jacket I shrug it on over my shoulders to add another layer before grabbing my phone to check the time..

30 minutes to go.

I feel my stomach flip as a small smile tugs at my lips, nervous butterflies fluttering away and the growing feeling of excitement and nerves increasing by each second as the white numbers on phone change to show a minute later.

29 minutes to go.

Taking a deep breath, I can already feel my heart speeding up in my ribcage just at the thought of getting to see Noah in twenty nine minutes...I can't even seem to stop the smile growing on my face as I open my bedroom door and head towards the stairs

28 minutes.

Walking down the stairs I aim to head to the kitchen to grab some kind of drink as my throat is becoming dry due to the excessive swallowing I'm doing due to nerves.

Or is it excitement?

Already hearing the voices belonging to my brothers as I near the end of the stairs, their voices travelling along the walls from the living room and I turn in the direction of the kitchen where I find mom standing in front of the stove, stirring something in a large pan.

“Hey honey” Mom greats me with a smile as she notices me presence as I enter the kitchen, “You look nice..” She smiles, her eyes briefly scanning my appearance “Going somewhere special?” She creeps a grin onto her face, giving me a knowing look while holding back a smirk.

I groan as I take a seat at the high breakfast table behind my mother, “Mom..” I whine causing her to chuckle softly as she is purposely teasing me, as she already knows what's happening.

“I'm sorry...” She grins looking over her shoulder back to me, “I couldn't help it...but honestly, you do look lovely Lexi.” She smiles at me and I can already feel a start of a blush forming on my cheeks as I look down to the counter top, “Noah better be taking you somewhere nice...” she continues with hiding a smirk as she turns away humming and continuing to stir the wooden spoon in the large pan.

“You got that right...” A voice suddenly enters the kitchen and my head snaps up to see a scowling Blake walking in, his eyes directed towards me, causing me to look down again biting my lip.

They are still not satisfied. Blake, Chris, Evan and Aston. All of them have not taken this so well, not as bad as I thought they would actually, but still not so good. I've been trying to avoid them as much as I can since yesterday and it seemed to work....that is until now when they are only just in the other room.

I hear my mom sigh, shooting Blake a look and I bite my tongue knowing that she's warning him. Surprisingly my mom has been on my side, teasing me mostly but she hasn't given me the lectures that the boy's have saying that Noah isn't any good and all that, mom actually likes Noah I think.

At least I have Seth with me, and like he said.....I've just gotta work through each boy one at a time, with obviously the younger ones be the easiest.

“Well...I'm sorry mom..but I'm really not happy with this” Blake speaks up, ignoring mom's warning as I feel his eyes zoning in on me.

I gulp, my teeth sinking into my lip harder as I really don't want to have this conversation now. Especially when it's...oh gosh, 20 minutes until Noah gets here.

“Blake...” Mom sighs as she shakes her head slightly, taking out the wooden spoon from the pan turning her body towards him, “We've already had this conversation”

Really? My head raises in confusion as I hear that...When did Blake talk to mom?

Blake frowns, clearly not impressed and casts his eyes back to me, “She's only fifteen!” His voice raises slightly in exasperation, “She's fifteen mom....and that boy is twice her age!”

“He's sixteen Blake.” Mom deadpans, and I swear I see her roll her eyes at Blake's exageration, which nearly causes a small smirk to tug at my lips.

Nearly.

“So!...That's bad enough!” Blake huffs with a shake of his head and I peek a look at him, feeling a slight pang of guilt at how desperate he looks for this to not happen...

“He's not right for her. He could do anything mom..don't you see!”

“Noah's a nice lad Blake..” Mom replies smoothly, turning back to continue her stirring, “And him and Lexi seem to get on, so what's the harm in the two of them doing something fun together hmm? Lexi's a sensible girl, she's not going to do anything stupid...”

Right, thanks. Jeez guys, talk about like I'm not even here.

I roll my eyes at the pair, I'm sat right here! Talk to me!

“That's not the point!.....it's him who I'm worried about!” Blake argues “He's sixteen. I don't know may sixteen year olds, but I know Evan. And he is someone I do not want Lexi to 'hang out' with!”

“I'm not going out with Evan Blake” I scoff “That's disgusting dude, he's our brother.”

I try to hold back a smirk as Blake shoots me a scowl, obviously not as amused as what I said as I am, so I duck my head biting back my smirk...

Don't blame me...I'm trying to not make this whole thing so serious.

Blake needs to lighten up.

Mom sighs again and I raise my head back up to see her turning around to look over to me.#

“Blake, if I'm allowing this then you just need to accept that. We are a phone call away if Lexi needs us, which I highly doubt she will as Noah wouldn't let anything happen to her” She says, pointedly looking towards me, and once again I feel a small burning to my cheeks as she looks at me with a knowing look as she mentions Noah.

Gosh...mom you are embarressing.

“How can you let this!?” Blake blurts out, flaying his arms frustrated, “If dad was still here there would be no way in hell he would allow that boy to even look in Lexi's direction!”

Oh...wow.

My eyes widen at what I just witness Blake say, and I snap my head up to stare between him and my mom.

Everything is silence, hell it even seems like the whole house has silenced, the only sound is the quiet whistle of the bubbles of water boiling in the pan with the unknown food item.

I watch my mum as I hold my breath, scared to breath as she has froze, holding the wooden spoon mid way to the pan and I can hear my heart hammering in my chest.

Oh god...Blake why, why did you have to say that?!

I can tell Blake didn't mean what he said by the way his shoulders slouch as he realise what he just said...and I hear his exhale of breath as his chest deflates.

“Mom...” His voice comes out in a mumble, but sounding too loud in this tense and quiet atmosphere

“Mom...I-I'm sorry...I didn't mean-” Blake tries to speak but gets off when mom holds up her hand to stop him.

“No....don't” Her voice sounds forced as I gulp, gripping the edge of the counter, ready to push myself up from the seat if I feel the need to.

“M-mom...” I dare to speak and swallow, throwing a look to Blake before back to mom as she lowers her arm, the wooden spoon placed back into the pan...

Shaking her head, mom turns around “No, no..it's alright...” She mutters, eyes look up over to Blake and her expression not giving anything away, “Blake is absolutely right.” She nods causing my breathing to hitch and my eyes slowly turning into slits as I look to Blake.

He better not have ruined this! He just had to open his big mouth....

“Your father would have definitely not let you go tonight Lexi..” She says, taking a cloth from the side and slowly wiping her hands on it, “He would have hated the thought of his little girl going out with some boy., just like any farther would have..” she smiles softly, looking down to her hands as they twist in the cloth she's holding, “But you know what...” She slowly raises her head again looking between me and Blake, “I know deep down he would finally give in and let you out....but only if he knew where you were going, what you were doing...and give you a time to be home for...” She chuckles softly as she looks up with a small distant smile on her face as if she's imagining or remembering....and that makes my heart clench and I swallow hard to get rid of the lump rising in my throat.

“..He was very protective of you Lex, so it's no wonder why this idiots and the others are so against you going to tonight...” She smiles followed by a small chuckle and my lips tug up in return.

“It only proves that he brought up the boys right....to make sure they look out for their baby sister....” She smiles, her eyes looking glassy as she turns to Blake, “And that's exactly what they are doing”

A weight in my chest settles and I blink a couple of times taking a deep breath. I hate hearing mom talk about our dad, because whenever she does she always ends up with tears. And I hate to see my mom cry.

Swallowing the few tears that want to be free, I stand from my chair, intending to go and give my mom a hug, but stop as she speaks again.

“Lexi can take care of herself...” she smiles softly, “but that doesn't mean she doesn't need all of you to be there for her, and if something happens...then you all will have the satisfaction of telling her ' I told you so' and then never allowing her out again...”Mom manages a small smirk and chuckle turning back to the steaming pan and I let out a breath..with a small smile knowing she's teasing again, and look over to Blake.

Looking between me and Mom with eyebrows feud, I catch mom nod her head very slightly, before Blake let's out a long sigh...

“Alright....” He almost grunts, “I'll go and speak to the others....”

My eyebrows raise in surprise as I watch him leave the kitchen, heading back to the living area and I look to my mom in slight confusion and disbelief.

He's really given in just like that?! Just speaking about our dad has caused him to soften?!

Walking up behind my mom, I wrap my arms around her waist and hug her tightly grinning, “Thank you!” I mumble into her shoulder and feel her rub my arm softly followed with a small chuckle.

“I knew he would change his tune..” She muses with a secret smile, “He's your dad's son alright...” she chuckle softly and I hug her tighter with a small smile as my mom is the reason for Blake to change is mind...she can be very convincing.

“But it's true though...” she speaks softly, “your farther would have hated Noah's guts...” She chuckles lightly, “And the boys are only doing what your farther would have done if he was here...”

I smile into her shoulder, lifting my head and plant a kiss on her cheek, “I know mom” I whisper, squeezing her again before slipping my arms away, “Thank you!” I smile once again turning to exit the kitchen....

All the men in this family were and still are totally bonkers.

Leaning against the door frame of the living room, I only catch the end of the boy's conversation before Blake notices me standing her and stands from the sofa, clearing his throat and the head's of the other's all turn to face me.

“We've come to an agreement.” Blake announces and I hold back my smirk at how serious he's speaking but I stand up straighter and nod for them to continue

“Alright....we give you consent to leave tonight” I nearly roll my eyes at how formal they are being. 'Consent', where did they pick that up from.

Put I nod my head, holding back my smile and keep a straight face while playing along.

“BUT...only if you stick to the following rules.” Chris speaks up looking to me

“One, you tell us exactly where you are going” Blake informs me

“Two, you will either text, or call us every half an hour to tell us your whereabouts and what your up to.”

“But-” I start to interrupt to protest the 'half hour' rule, but get cut off from Evan.

“Three! You must be home by no later than ten thirty” He says firmly

“And lastly” Blake speaks, “You must keep a distance between the two of you. No touching longer than usual.”

I blink at them all, seeing the serious looks on their faces almost making me want to laugh, but I swallow it down and clear my throat, “That it?” I question biting my lip in hopes I don't give away my smirk.

They all glance to each other for a moment, silently confirming it before Blake crosses his arms and nods, “Yes” He confirms and I let a grin spread across my lips.

“Okay! Well....first off...every half an hour?...guys seriously.....why not every hour?” I plead, trying to compromise as every half hour seems a little over the top.

Glances are shared between the boys and I wait approximately 30 seconds before I get an answer.

“Fine.” Chris tells me and I grin again, “But only if it's a phone call every hour”

Hey...I could work with that.

I nod grinning happily, even though with having these three ridiculous rules I'm still happy...because the most important thing is solved.

They are just about satisfied for me to go!

It gives a lot of guilt from my shoulders knowing they are some what happy with me going than absolutely against the idea like they were earlier.

A sudden shrill echoes around the walls causing me to jump, but my eyes widen as I realise what it was.

The door bell.

Oh god. He's here!

“I will get it.” Blake tells me, shuffling past and out the room as I stand there frozen.

Gulping I glance over at all their faces, seeing Aston smile lightly at me, and know that even though he's a quiet one, he still had the same opinions as the others but from the look in his eyes, he's warmly up slightly to the idea. Not so the same for Evan and Chris, who are already glaring at the doorway to the living room.

They will probably never be happy....but if I get thought tonight and it goes well, who knows what they're thoughts on Noah would be after.

My eyes catch a gaze of the similar electric blue to mine from across the room, and a smile forms on their face, causing me to return it and through that smile I can already know that Seth is with me, but also he'll be on the other end of that phone when I call an hour from now. Just like the other four.

Thank god Charles has left with daisy earlier, because otherwise...that would have been another someone who would have to be persuaded...and Charles is much harder to persuade than all these boys put together.

Ohh..I'm glad he and Daisy left when they did.

With suddenly hearing Blake's voice from the doorway, I snap back to reality and remember that there's someone waiting for me...

Noah's waiting for me.

A silly, stupid grin forms on my face as I turn around to dart out the living room, those darn butterflies fluttering away in my stomach...and I can just pray that tonight will go just fine...

And I won't have to come back to hear five voices telling me, 'I told you so'.

~~~
“Seriously! They want you to do that?!” Noah's laughter ripples through the air, causing my heart to flutter as I watch him tilt his head back to laugh.
“Yes...” I nod my head deadly serious, “Every god damn hour.” I sigh but shrug with a smile forming, “but oh well.....it's better than every half an hour..”
“Oh man!” Noah laughs shaking his head as his laughter turns in to chuckles and his eyes flicker over to me, “Your family's really something...” He chuckles with a small small creeping onto his face.
I look away from his gaze afraid that the longer I look, the chance he will spot the faint blush coming to my cheeks.
“Yeah....well, only another...” I trail off looking down to the time on my phone, “Another three minutes and you can tell them that”
Noah chuckles again with a smirk, before pushing himself up from the grass where we are sat..
“Well...let's get a move on then, only three minutes until that film starts!” He grins, holding his hand down towards me and I smile shyly before taking it and he pulls me to my feet, my hands dusting off my jeans from any loose grass strands as we've been sat in this grassy field for the past hour to waste time before this film.
Smiling, Noah doesn't let go of my hand as he guides me back across the short distance towards his bike that's parked to the side of the field and I can't keep the smile from my face as we walk.
But my smile soon turns into a frown as my phone starts to ring loudly in my hand and I groan.
“Here we go...” I mumble glancing to Noah who just smirks softly as I bring my phone to my ear, pressing the accept button.
“Hellooo” I answer the phone with a sigh ready to be interrogated by all the questions I expect to come.
“Hey Lex” I let out a small sigh of relief as I hear Seth's voice coming from the other side of the phone, Oh thank god it's him.
“Hey..” I smile a little bit and here a small chuckle coming from him as I know he can tell what I was thinking.
“Yeaah...soo, I have Blake right here glaring at me so I
