Autumn's POV

I still couldn't believe it. I was fired today and there was nothing I could do about it. Nothing. I left the company, feeling heartbroken and utterly useless. I lost the one job I truly loved. The job I wholeheartedly worked months to get, only for it to come crashing down in seconds. With the business degree, I rightfully earned through hard work, I can get any job I want but that's not the point.

I loved the company and everyone that worked there. The office was welcoming and lively, a great space for me, and was one of the chattiest offices in New York. Everything was homey and family-like, and everyone would work comfortably with each other.

Something that I loved.

And don't get me started on Mr. Ray.

Mr. Ray was the most understanding and sympathetic boss I ever met.

He was patient yet observant, kind-hearted and generous. He treated me like one of his own when he didn't need to and there was Sarah. Sarah was the co-worker you could talk to hours on end and laugh with. I didn't mind the boring paperwork because I could laugh with her and talk to her if I needed to.

All in all, everyone was so kind and friendly. The office was second nature to me and now it's gone.

As I sit here on my couch eating ice cream, I think about all the good memories I had. It is pathetic really but it's the only way I can get my mind off it.

"Hello, bitches!" My roommate slash best friend yells, bursting through the apartment door.

"Hey," I mumbled weakly, not in the mood for anything except Ben and Jerry's. These guys will never let you down I swear. Who needs boyfriends when you have them? Am I right?

Nessa notices my mood. Setting down her keys on the kitchen counter, she walks over to me. "What's wrong?"

"I don't know," I play with the ice cream with my spoon, not wanting to go into the problem at hand.

"Autumn, you never eat Ben and Jerry's unless there was something wrong," Damn, she knows me well.

"Did Uncle Lanner die?" She asks, her eyes filled with hope. Why does she always assume that?

"No, he did not. Ness, when are you going to let that go?"

"Never and awe. I was hoping he did." She said, now taking a seat next to me.

"He didn't mean it," I say but she turns her head at me.

"Seriously?! That asshat left me in a ditch to die!! Who the heck does that? I will never forgive him for that. No matter if he was on medication or not,"

I laugh but then shut up when I realize what I was sad about in the first place.

"Autumn, what's wrong?" She asks worriedly. I didn't want to tell her because that would mean I really did get fired.

"I got fired." I blurt out, a little too fast.

"What?! How? But you loved that job." She explains sympathetically as she grabs my hand for comfort.

"The company was in a financial crisis so they had to let people go." She shakes her head in understanding before getting up with a face of determination.

Oh no, I know that look. I don't like it. That's the look that got us into trouble.

"No," I tell her. Nessa innocently grins, pressing her lips together. There's nothing innocent about that grin.

"What? But you didn't even know what I was going to say." She pouts, making me turn away.

"I don't need to know, Ness. I hate it when you do that. It always backfires with your plans and schemes." I get up irritated from my spot on the couch, my ice cream and spoon in hand, as I enter the kitchen. Ness follows me, still telling me about her so-called plan.

"It's not a plan or scheme. It's something different." She explains.

"Oh yeah? What is it?" I question, parts of me wanting to know, others not so much.

"Let's go to the club. Let's go out!" She yelps in excitement making me chuckle, giving her false hopes.

It was hilarious that she thought we were going out. There was no way I was going clubbing, let alone with her.

"No," I stop my laughter and change my expression so quickly, she freezes. Her face drops in confusion, not understanding why I was laughing seconds before.

"No? But Autumn, why?"

It's simple, I don't want to go out. My mood is sucky and the last thing I want to do is go out. "Because I don't want to. It's bad enough I got fired. I don't want to party and get high."

"I get that but Autumn I wanted to have a girl's night out. You were always busy and worked and with our schedules, we barely had time together. Maybe I'm selfish... I'm sorry but I thought we can have fun together and I was hoping it would cheer you up," She pauses looking guilty and sad.

Crap. I feel bad now. I feel bad because I know she's right. I never got to see her when I worked and her being busy with school, getting her masters and work as well. We never go out anymore.

"You know what we can do, watch movies instead. We can order pizza and talk like we use to," Nessa pulls me out of my thoughts, suggesting another idea. I smile at her efforts to keep me happy but for once I have to stop thinking about me but her. It's important in any relationship to balance the everything you do.

Even though sometimes she's the over the top, party friend, she would never do something I am not comfortable with and I love her for that. Our friendship should work both ways.

"Ness?" I asked.

"Yeah?"

"You need to help me with my dress and makeup. We are going out." I grin as Ness jumps up in happiness.

"Really?" I nod my head yes as she runs into the room.

~

"You look hot!" She sends me a wink as I laugh. I was wearing an off the shoulder black dress. The off the shoulder part was cut into a v-shape down the center complementing my push up cleavage in a classy way. Black long sleeves connected the dress making it the outfit look extravagant. And she was right, I felt hot and confident.

Nessa, on the other hand, was wearing the complete opposite of me. She was wearing a red strapless dress similar to mine except without the sleeves. Nevertheless, she looked amazing.

"Thanks, you do too. Are you ready?"

"Hell yeah! Let's get ready to party!" She yells making me laugh. We head downstairs waiting for the taxi I called earlier when we were getting ready.

The taxi arrives shortly, five minutes later. The car ride was long for me because Nessa was too busy gushing and talking about how much fun it was going to be.

Arriving in front of the club, Nessa pays the taxi, booting me out of the car. Hey!

"You ready for the best night of your life?!" She gushes out of excitement, shaking me.

"No, but we are here already. Might as well." I grumble. Walking into the entrance, the security guards let us in with no question thanks to Nessa.

By this point, I'm not surprised. Nessa is a natural blond, blue-eyed woman with natural features of a Victoria Secret Angel. As her best friend I like that about her because not only that she's a beautiful human being but we get into places for free. Like yolo!

She grabs my hand, dragging me to the bar. I look around the fancy bar and it's pretty pack which is not surprising. It's a Friday night so of course, people would want to hit up the club.

"What can I get for you beautiful? The bartender asks Nessa who winks in response. I internally roll my eyes at them because I know Nessa. She's a flirt, that's just who she is.

"Shots of vodka and after that, I would like a shot of you." She seductively bites her lip, leaning forward.

The bartender obviously gets the message and smirks, "That can be arranged. Who am I to keep a beautiful girl waiting." Nessa smiles and the bartender dude gets us the drinks.

"He's nice," Nessa says when the guy leaves.

"Nice?" I quiver an eyebrow. "He was giving you the fuck-me eyes." I laugh, but Nessa shrugs not really giving a care.

We talk and catch up. A few jokes are cracked between Nessa and me, the bartender soon comes back with the drinks as I chug them all down in one go.

Nessa cheers as she takes her shots, the bartender leaving to serve other customers. I was thankful because I didn't see another round of them flirting back and forth.

Pretty soon, Nessa drags me to the dance floor. The song, Timber by Kesha blasts through the speakers. I squeal out of rush and adrenaline because it is our favorite song.

We dance and laugh, turns out this was a good idea. Nessa and I were having a good time. To be honest, I thought this whole thing would blow in my face but it didn't. Soon enough, after a couple of songs of me and Nessa dancing, we go back to the bar.

Taking more shots into my system, I convince myself it was time for me to go.

"Hey, I'm going to go, Ness." Ness sighs in disappointment, turning to me she grabs my hand.

"Really? Are you sure? But it's girls night." She pouts but when she looks at me, she understands.

"Okay, do you want me to go with you? Let me get my purse." She hurriedly goes to get her things but I stop her. I shake my head no while she looks at me confused.

"No, I'm going to go by myself. Don't let me ruin your night. I had fun, I'm just tired and I'm okay. I didn't drink much." She hesitates, still not ready to let me go by myself.

"Go, Ness. Have fun with Mr. Bartender and don't think that you're ditching me," I say reading her mind. One of the things she would never want to do is leave me alone by myself in a bar but in this case, I'm the one leaving so she shouldn't feel guilty for wanting to have fun.

"B-but,"

"No, I don't want to be the cause of the end of your night. I'll text you when I get home okay?" I tell her but she wraps me into a hug.

"Be safe okay? Text me as soon as you get home." I nod in reply ready to leave.

She gives the bartender who served earlier a signal, probably telling him she's free for the night. The dude winks at her, leaving the counter probably to check out.

"Okay, text me " She yells over the loud music, going over where Mr. Bartender dude went.
