Janet insisted that I go out with Kevin. While she cradled her newborn son, she told me he was single and searching. She rocked the baby in the crook of her right arm while I tried to fix the IV drip in her left.

"Don't look now but he's totally checking you out." I gave it a moment before I lifted my eyes to the glass window which showed Kevin and Eliot enjoying a cup of coffee in the hallway just outside the room. Just like Janet had said, Kevin was looking at me.

When we locked eyes he smiled and I smiled back.

"Do you remember the crush you had on him?"

I shook my head. "Do you remember the non-crush he had on me? This is stupid."

"That was high school, you were a mess."

Says the woman who had just sweat the mascara off her face and shat the bed. I shook my head again, this time scolding myself for ever thinking something so mean. Janet had just given birth.

"How nice of you," I said dryly and she laughed.

"I mean it as a compliment silly. You're drop-dead gorgeous now and no one saw it coming, use it to your advantage."

Wesley gave a soft knock on the open door and walked in. He was out of his surgical gear and back in his sexy pink scrubs. On most of the doctors I had worked with, scrubs looked a little loose but Wesley was too much man and muscle. His scrubs were always a little more...fitted.

He grabbed Janet's chart from the foot of her bed and flipped up a few pages. His mouth was moving but I couldn't hear a word he was saying. The way the muscle in his biceps flexed every time he flipped a page, had me hypnotised. And I was basically drooly at how fast his fingers flipped the pen around. I crossed my legs at the memory of how quickly they moved in and out of my-

"Nurse Coleman?"

"Uh- what? I'm sorry." Janet and Wesley were all staring at me expectantly. My face started heating up, how long were they all watching me drool over Dr Sykes.

"I said would you mind discharging them?" he turned to Janet with a smile. "I think they're ready to play family at home. Congratulations by the way." He said nodding at the baby in her arms.

"Thank you Dr Sykes, I couldn't have done this without you."

"Please," he lifted one hand acting modestly. "It was all you."

That may have been true, but he was here for all thirteen hours being such a damn good doctor that I wanted to throw him against the wall and kiss him senselessly. Why was I so horny today? Maybe I was ovulating, and my body was begging me to get pregnant. I shivered at that thought and the horny cloud over my brain cleared. The thought of being with child at the ripe age of twenty-six sounded like a nightmare.

Eliot came to his wife's side and they were immediately cocooned in whatever family-love bubble they had going on. It was like Wesley and I just vanished.

Kevin popped his head in and asked if he could speak to me outside for a moment. I had no idea why I looked to Wesley for permission. I guess I wanted to see what his reaction would be. To my disappointment, his eyes were glued to Janet's charts. I turned my eyes to an expectant Kevin and gave a curt nod.

"You must be hungry, can I take you out for an early breakfast?" I glanced at my wrist and realised for the first time it was a few minutes to eight in the morning. I was exhausted and my feet hurt, I was trying to find a kind way to turn him down. I could smell Wesley before I could see him.

"She's exhausted. Maybe next time playboy." He was so close I could feel his chest vibrate on my back as he spoke. He placed one hand on my shoulder and I tried not to think about how wonderfully warm it felt.

Kevin's eyes darted between Wesley and me, he had a confused look on his.

"Sorry is there-" I felt bad that he was trying to wrap his head around what was happening right now. I couldn't blame him, because so was I.

"How about dinner then?" I offered and he smiled.

"Dinner. I'll text you." He then nodded to Wesley in acknowledgement and walked away.

I spun around and shoved Wesley back. "Are you kidding me? What was that?"

"What."

"That!" I flung my arm out in the direction where Kevin was.

He shrugged. "I did you a favour."

"A favour?"

"You're too sweet to say no to your little high school crush." He smiled and tucked a curl I hadn't seen escape behind my ear. "Even though you look like you're about to pass out from exhaustion."

I scoffed. "He's not my-"

"I overheard you and Janet speaking." He looked at the passage where Kevin had disappeared down. "It's cute if that's what you're into."

I stared at him until he met my eyes again.

"What?"

"Are you...jealous?"

He smiled. "Not in the slightest. I know who you really want."

"And who do I really want?" We both knew the answer to that.

He leaned in close to whisper in my ear. I couldn't stop myself from shivering. "From the way you were eye fucking me in there? I'd say you're looking at him, princess."

I turned my head to the side, my lips were seconds away from his. "No one likes a know-it-all Dr Sykes."

He smiled cheekily before straightening to his full height. "Have fun on your date."

And I was determined to! As soon as I got home, I crashed, scrubs and all. When I got up around three, my mother made me a continental breakfast and I was reminded of why I loved staying with her.

I showered and straightened my hair before I came down to the kitchen.

"Hey, pretty baby." She placed one hand on her hip, looking over me with love in her eyes. "You going out?"

"Yes." I smiled back, tucking my silk pressed hair behind my ear. No one in the world made me feel beautiful like my mom.

"Mmm, I see that. You've got your hair all done."

I rarely straightened my hair, it was just too much work. But when I did, the silk curtain that fell just below my butt made me feel like a supermodel. Sexy instead of the usual curly-haired cuteness I usually rocked. My mother placed a plate in front of me and I wasted no time stuffing my face.

"So what are you doing? Who are you going with?"

There was a hint of excitement in her eyes and I couldn't blame her. I was such a homebody, I had no friends outside of Lucy. After swallowing a mouth full of bacon I proudly announced that I was going on a date.

"Really? With who?" She placed her elbows on the counter in front of me and placed her face in her hands. At this moment she looked sixteen again, ready to hear the latest scoop.

I couldn't help the childish giggle that passed my lips. "Kevin."

"Kevin? Ninth-grade crush Kevin? Real estate agent Kevin?" My mom and I had always had an open relationship. My dad died when I was six, so for twenty years it has just been her and I. So I told her everything. Everything except my dirty diaries. Or what magical things my sexy co-worker's fingers could do.

"Yes."

"So cute! He's a good man, that one." She straightened and placed more eggs on my plate. She was excited because a date meant I was one step closer to getting a ring on my finger.

"Not too much Mom, I don't want to be full."

"You don't want to be starving either. You know you're a messy eater." She teased and I stuck my tongue out at her. I proved her point by shoving a forkful of eggs in my mouth, smearing grease on the side of my mouth.

Later that evening, after I was dressed. I sat down to check my diary entries. It had been a while. I couldn't help but smile when I recognized an email.

[email protected]: My co-worker has a date with a man who isn't me.

Maybe I am a little jealous. I don't want her to have too much fun tonight. I'm going stir crazy thinking about what they'll be up to. I know she'll be so beautiful. If it were me, I wouldn't be able to keep my hands to myself.

I couldn't ignore the way my heartbeat sped up. Something about talking behind an avatar made me bold. Really bold.

[email protected]: RE: My co-worker has a date with a man who isn't me.

Maybe that's the problem. It isn't you.
