I'm freaking out. Rae is hysterically laughing in the back of the car and Tori and I can't believe what we just did. Glancing down at the puppy sitting on the floor with his or her tongue hanging out, I really realize what I did.

"Rae this isn't funny! We just stole a dog!" Julie exclaims from the backseat.

"We didn't steal a dog," I say glancing back at Julie. Her eyes are wide and I feel just about as concerned as she looks. I can't help but laugh at everything that has happened in the past thirty minutes. We were driving back from a restaurant and we might have found a dog on the side of the road. And we might have taken it. I have no idea what type of dog it is and it doesn't have a collar so we are thinking that he just got dumped on the side of the road.

"Okay everyone stop saying we stole a dog. Let's think about this logically," Tori offers leaning in between Rae and me. We are almost back to campus so we really might be screwed.

"Carter, what did you learn from that stupid pets class you are taking?" Rae asks still chuckling a little. In all honesty, I think she's laughing cause she is in full-blown panic mode.

"Um if it doesn't have a collar it could have a chip that would tell you where he's from," I explain remember what my psycho pets teacher said. She's not psycho but definitely an interesting soul.

"So like, how do we do that?" Julie asks as Rae turns into student parking.

"We have to go to a vet," I explain turning to look at her. Julie's eyes widen because she is very convinced that we just stole some poor family's dog. To be honest I don't think we did. He or she looked like it was there for a good amount of time but not long enough to look too underfed.

"The vets are probably closed at this time," Tori says glancing at her phone. She looks back over at me and I put my hands up in defense. Does it look like I know what to do?

"Now what? We can sneak a dog into a dorm," Julie says laughing at the thought. I glance over at Rae and she glances at me. I feel Julie sit up straighter, "No. Oh no no no, we are not sneaking a dog into our dorm."

"I didn't say that!" I defend myself even though that's exactly what I was thinking. I know Rae thought of it too cause suddenly she is full-on focused on parking.

"You were thinking about it. You and Rae both were," she mumbles back. Tori laughs shaking her head. She glances down at the dog, who is leaning against my leg by my feet. Rae puts the car into park and leans back into her seat glancing at the dog.

"Okay, here's the plan, we can take it to Q's frat for the night and bring it to the vet tomorrow," Tori suggests looking between all of us. I glance at the cute little dog and I can't bring myself to let it go to a fucking frat.

"No way. Q would somehow get it a, high or b, drunk. No way," Rae states as the dog moves. Tori sighs glancing down at the dog as it goes up on four paws.

"Yeah no. So we sneak it in for a night," Tori states. Rae and I look back at Tori and Julie. Julie makes a face at Tori clearly not buying our idea.

"How in the fuck are we sneaking him or she in?" Julie asks. I love Julie but the girl is not a rule-breaker and if she didn't care about us getting in trouble she wouldn't care.

"I have my cheer bag," Rae says nodding to the trunk. Her eyes widen and she reaches for her phone that's attached to the aux cord. "Fuck. I have cheer in an hour."

"Well shit, okay we have to do this fast," I state quickly. I turn back around and pick the dog off the ground. I am hoping to all things that this dog does not have fleas or some shit. He or she, still don't know, barks a little his tail wagging. I also have no idea what type of dog he is. This all-around might be one of my worst plans.

The rest of the girls get out of the car and I open my own door. I set the dog onto the ground, "Stay."

The dog sits on its hind legs looking up at me. I am surprised by how it's listening to me. Julie and Tori stand next to me looking at the dog.

"Okay, have the cheer bag. Let's do this shit," Rae says coming around her car. She sets the bag down and all movement stops. I glance around our group and all of them are giving me the same dumbfounded look.

"What?" I ask them. Tori motions to the dog and the bag. I sigh loudly placing the dog into her cheer bag. My heart feels for the dog and I really hope it has a home because I genuinely have no idea what we are supposed to do if it doesn't.

"Okay c'mon," Rae says as I put the bag over my shoulder. For the dog being so small, this thing is heavy. I keep the bag open a little and make sure the dog is all good. To be honest I really don't understand what in the hell was going through my mind when I took the dog. But, it's absolutely heartbreaking seeing a dog especially a puppy on the side of the road.

"Guys, we got this," Julie says glancing at the bag. Her face doesn't meet what she is saying but it helps, a little. We silently walk back onto campus in the direction of our dorm room. We probably look so sketchy right now but I think we are just trying not to have attention be drawn to us. I feel the dog wiggle a little and my eyes widen. I look down at the bag and see it's black little nose poking out of the hole. I lightly push down the nose but the dog doesn't budge.

"Ladies!"

Oh fuck.

I snap my head up and push the bag back a little. Rae slides in front of the bag as we look at the six foot something boys. Trey, Asher, Jeremy, and Robbie are all standing in front of us giving us weird looks.

"Hi," Tori says first bringing the attention to herself rather than Rae and I. I'm looking just about every other spot on campus other than them. The minute I look at them they will know something is up. Hell, they know something is up right now.

"So," Trey says looking at us then behind Rae. "What's in the bag?"

I feel my face pale and Tori is cracking a smile. Julie looks like she might shit herself and Rae is keeping a straight face. If there is one thing I am bad at, it's lying. I can't lie to save my life. I never have been able to because I always feel too guilty about it.

"Nothing," Rae says shrugging her shoulders. Robbie and Asher glance at each other then back at the two of us. My eyes finally meet Asher's but I instantly look away.

I haven't talked to him since he nailed me with his basketball. I still have a light bruise on my cheek but you can barely tell because of my freckles.

"That's a lie," Jeremy says shaking his head at the two of us. Julie has slipped behind us and she's on edge.

"Nope, no lie here," I simply state looking at Jeremy with as much of a poker face I can muster. Trey laughs shaking his head.

"You are a horrible liar," he says laughing still. I open my mouth to argue but I really can't. "We know there's an animal in the bag."

"There's no animal here," Tori says with a straight face. My eyes widen when the dog starts moving again and Rae is now barely holding it together.

"Then what the hell is that?" Trey asks pointing to the bag. Glancing at Tori and then Julie.

"My goldfish?" I offer up because it's honestly the only thing coming into my brain. Tori can't even contain herself as she busts out into laughter. Rae pinches the bridge of her nose. The boys give me an unimpressed look.

"Goldfish."

"Yes, it's a dog! Rae and Carter took it, I'm innocent!" Julie says quickly before Tori can even finish her sentence. I snap my head towards Julie and she mouths a 'sorry.' I turn back to look at the boys and my eyes meet with Asher. He has this sparkle in his eye and a smug smirk.

"Don't look at me like that. We didn't steal a dog," I say narrowing my eyes at Asher. Asher and Robbie look at each other and then back at us. Suddenly I have started sweating and I know it's because I am nervous. They probably think we are all nuts taking a dog off the side of the road.

"We definitely might've stolen a dog," Rae says looking at me. I snap my head in her direction and shoot her a look.

"We didn't," I assure them once again. Although they just do not seem convinced.

"We found him or her on the side of the road," Tori explains. I'm surprised she stopped laughing at us to get the words out but she's still laughing.

"And you put it in a duffel bag?" Jeremy tries to confirm. I glance at the bag with his little nose peeping through and sigh.

"We might've put it in there to sneak it into the dorm," I reply looking back at them. I don't know if they think we are crazy or if they think we are just plain stupid.

"Carter didn't want to leave it there," Rae says looking at me.

"We," I emphasize. She stares at me and I try again, "We, collectively, took the dog."

"Collectively?" Jeremy says nodding his head at me. He glances at my friends and then back at me. "It doesn't look like it."

"In her defense, I am for it," Rae states glancing at Robbie. Him and Asher look extremely amused at our current situation.

"Now if y'all don't mind, we will be smuggling the dog into the dorm." I point in the direction of the dorm. Asher raises an eyebrow at me chuckling.

"By all means, go right ahead," he says stepping back away from us. I nod my head at him and look in the direction of my friends. I take a step forward but Rae stops me. She mumbles something that I can't understand, "Huh?"

"The dog, ask them if they would take the dog," she whispers back. I make a face at her confused as to what she is talking about.

"No, why would they take the dog?" I whisper back. She glared at me and then glances back at the boys. They still haven't left yet and are probably waiting for us to say something.

"They have a house."

"No fucking way." There's no way we are going to give this dog to our friends who technically aren't our friends. I honestly have no idea what to call them.

"Will you two just make a decision," Tori whispers back violently. Rae and I both whisper protests back as she tries to continue to push us to just make a choice. Rae has a point if we got caught with this dog we might be fucked. So, this really might be our only choice.

"Would you two care to tell us why you are whispering?" Robbie asks clearing his throat. We pause our fighting standing up straight. I look down at the dog, who is blissfully unaware of what we are arguing about. I look back over at Asher and I put on my best puppy dog face. His demeanor changes so fast I have no idea how he knows what I'm going to ask him.

"No." He answers before I even have the chance to ask my question. I frown at him then look back at the dog.

"But he or she is so cute," I reply setting the bag down. The boys glance down at the dog intrigued with it. Tori chuckles from next to me watching as the puppy barks at them wagging his tail.

"We are not taking your mess," Asher states looking down at the dog with crossed arms. I sigh again standing up right and staring at him. Asher's light eyes stare back at me and he gives me a 'no way' face.

"It's not a mess. When we take the dog to the vet tomorrow and if the dog doesn't have a home, we just need to keep it somewhere. It's still our dog," I motion to my friends. But they don't look all too convinced with my statement. "Okay fine, my dog."

"I mean it's kinda cute," Jeremy says. I look down at him as he is petting the back of the puppy's ear. Trey is also having a good time with the dog but Robbie and Asher still look displeased as they give Trey and Jeremy a glare.

"Sorry," Jeremy mumbles back looking away from them. Trey ignores them continuing to pet the white and black dog.

"Nah fuck y'all let's take the dog," Trey states cooing at him. I raise my hands up in triumph that I got at least two of the roommates to join in on my plan.

"That's technically two!" I say pointing to Robbie and Asher. Asher shakes his head at me taking a step forward.

"No, Carter," he says again in his 'I'm serious' tone. I sigh again glancing at my friends for help. They have been awfully quiet this entire time probably watching me try to work my nonexistent magic.

"C'mon, Rob," Rae tries looking at Robbie. He sighs looking down at the small dog before nodding his head.

"Fine, I'm in but Asher has final say. And so help me Miller if you do not take care of this dog," Robbie says pointing at me. I nod my head at him and salute him in a 'yes sir' manner. I turn back to Asher who still doesn't look even the slightest bit convinced.

I try my best puppy dog eyes bending down to the dogs level, "Please take the dog. This is a very big 'if' but still."

Asher looks down at me with his arms still crossed but I can tell I'm breaking him. He glances at his teammates rolling his eyes at them. "Fine but you take the dog tonight and meet me at two for the vet."

I shoot up quickly and so does the dog as I hop over it to Asher. I wrap my arms around him. He tenses making me realize that I just jumped into his arms over a dog. I pull away and step back making sure I don't run over the dog.

"Thank you, Asher," Julie says from behind me. I nod my head in agreement as Asher gives me an amused look.

"Two p.m. sharp, Miller."

"Not a minute later."
