WHEN ALEC PARKED THE CAR in front of a small yellow house, I knew it was time. We were going to find out if Dean was abusing Evie.

Alec turned off the engine, and we all got out of the car. Alec walked in front of Campbell and I, and I had my arm wrapped around Campbell's waist to keep her away from him.

I do not trust Alec one bit. And it's not just because he's the son of a guy who was trying to hurt Campbell. He was in the hospital when she was pushed, and he was one of the last people to see Peyton alive.

Alec knocked on the tan door before stepping back. The door opened a few minutes later, and it was Evie at the door.

And just like Campbell said her lip was busted.

"Alec? What's going on?" Evie asked, stuffing her hands in her jacket pockets.

"Evie, we need to talk," Alec said, softly.

Evie nodded,"Okay. Come on in."

She pushed the door more so we could walk in the house. As we walked into the living room, Evie shut the door behind us.

"Do you guys want something to drink? I just made tea, but I also have water," she asked, nervously.

"I'll take some tea," Alec replied, kindly.

"Anybody else?" Evie asked, making Campbell and I shake our heads no. "Okay. Make yourselves home. I'll be right back, and we can talk about whatever."

She was so calm right now, and this was not the Evie I met in the hospital two months ago. She seems scared.

Alec and Campbell sat on the brown couch. I noticed they were sitting next to each other so I squeezed my way between them.

"I really like this spot," I told them as Alec gave me a dirty look.

Campbell rolled her eyes, but I could care less. If Alec was going to try anything, he was going to have to go through me first.

As we sat on the couch, waiting on Evie to return, I took the opportunity to look around her house. There was stairs going upstairs, and there was pictures on the walls of Evie and her parents.

"Alright. Here we go," Evie said, returning to the living room with two coffee cups. She handed one to Alec, and she sat in the recliner before taking a sip of hers.

Alec took a long sip before setting it on the glass coffee table in front of us.

"So what's so urgent you have to come talk to me at ten fifty at night?" Evie asked, setting her mug down on the coffee table also.

"I'm just going to ask the question straight forward," Alec said before asking her,"Is Dean abusing you?"

Evie blinked a few times before shaking her head. "No. That's crazy. I mean, sure, he gets angry at me, but he has never put hands on me."

"Then how did you get a busted lip and a splint?" Campbell asked her, calmly, rubbing her hands together.

"Those stairs right there," Evie said, pointing to the stairs.

"Evie, I know exactly what you are going through. I lied about my abuse because I was scared of what my abuser would do. I almost died because of it. You don't have to be scared, we can help you. But if you don't tell us the truth, he's going to hurt you even worse," Campbell explained, softly.

My heart aches for Campbell. She has been through so much, and I wished I could make all the pain disappear.

Tears slide down Evie's cheeks and she nodded,"Dean got mad at me because I wouldn't drink with him. He pushed me down outside off the porch."

Alec took a deep breath before saying,"I'm so sorry, Evie."

"We are going to go to the police, and he will rot in a cell where he belongs," Campbell promised her with a sad smile.

"Dean told me that it was my fault, and I believed him. My parents are out of town visiting some old friends so they don't have a clue about any of this," Evie continued as more tears slide down her cheeks.

"This ain't your fault, Evie. Dean is an abusive and manipulated person. This is his fault," Campbell replied as her fingers enlaced with mine.

I know this is bringing up some bad memories for her so I squeeze her hand for reassurance.

"Evie, we also need to know if Dean killed Peyton," Alec said as his voice broke at the end.

Evie shook her head,"No. He would never hurt her."

"Did he push Campbell?" I asked her, looking her right in her dark blue eyes.

"That I don't know. I wouldn't push it past him with his anger issues," Evie said with a shake of her head.

"We need to call Luke. He can arrest Dean before he gets here. If Dean finds out we know, he will either run or try and hurt us," Campbell said, making me and Alec nod in agreement.

I noticed that Alec held his temple with a pained expression on his face, and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"Evie, may I use your restroom?" Alec asked, standing up from the couch. He held on the couch arm like his life depended on it.

Evie nodded,"It's upstairs. Third door on the right."

"Thanks," Alec replied before making his way upstairs.

Alec gripped on everything so he could keep his  balance. Campbell seemed not to notice as she looked at Evie was drinking her tea.

Something feels wrong.

"I'm going to go get another refill. Are you sure you guys don't want one?" Evie asked, kindly, as she stood up from her chair.

"I'll take one," Campbell said, making Evie smile.

As Evie disappeared into the kitchen, I turned to face Campbell.

"Something feels wrong," I whispered.

"Something is wrong, Brent. Dean is abusing Evie, and there is a huge chance he pushed me down the stairs," Campbell replied, but I shook my head.

"No. That's not it. Something feels off."

Before she could say anything, Evie returned with a cup of tea for Campbell. Campbell took with a thank you before taking a couple sips.

"So what's going to happen now?" Evie asked, playing with the hem of her hoodie.

"As soon as Alec gets back down here, we are going to go to Luke and you will tell them what you told us. Even if Dean didn't push me, he will go to jail for abuse," Campbell explained before taking another sip. She set the mug down on the table.

"This is all so crazy. I thought Dean actually loved me. I'm so stupid," Evie said with a shake of her head.

"You're not stupid. You love him, but it's very clear he doesn't," Campbell told her, tucking a strand of her hair behind her.

Evie frowned and she glared at Campbell for a split second before nodding in agreement.

I must be seeing things.

"You're right. Hey, Brent, can you go see if Alec is alright? He's been up there for a hot minute," Evie asked me, making Campbell look at me.

"Okay. I'll be back in a minute," I said, standing up from the couch, letting go of Campbell's hand.

I started walking upstairs, and I heard them two talking. I knocked on the third door on the right.

"Alec, are you okay?" I asked with a bored expression.

I heard the water running, but I didn't hear Alec.

"Alec?" I asked, knocking once more.

I twisted the doorknob to see that it was unlock. I pushed it open, and my eyes widen when I saw what was before me.

Alec was on the floor, unconscious. I turned the water off quickly before squatting down to check Alec's pulse.

It was there, and I sighed in relief.

"Campbell! Call 911! Alec is hurt!" I yelled before shaking Alec trying to get him to wake up. "Alec, wake up. Wake up."

"Campbell!" I exclaimed again after three minutes of no answer. I didn't hear anything downstairs. I would call 911, but my phone is in the car.

I quickly ran downstairs, yelling,"Call 911! Alec has fainted!"

But I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw that neither Campbell nor Evie were in the living room.

"Campbell?!" I yelled as I looked in the kitchen for them.

On the counter right next to the tea kettle was an orange bottle laying o the counter opened. Sleeping pills were sprawled out all over the counter and floor.

"Shit! No!" I exclaimed before running out to the front yard. "Campbell!"

But she wasn't outside. Neither was Evie. Alec's car was still here, but Evie's small blue car was gone as well.

Campbell is gone.

She's gone.
