This is like 2 hours late (:

I glance at my reflection with a look of indifference.

I am wear a long sleeved black shirt that is covered by an oversized navy blue tee. For jeans I chose a pair of distressed light washed ones that I cuffed and for shoes I chose a pair of white Nike's.

Everyone wears fancy dresses and suits to this Christmas party but I'm not in the mood to wear either.

I hear a knock on my bedroom door which causes me to jump from fright.

Jesus Christ.

I turn around to face my door just as the person enters my bedroom.

I raise an eyebrow at my sister when I notice that she is wearing a short, airy white dress.

"Did you take my shoes?" She asks

I bring my hands up and gather my brunette hair into a high ponytail, using one of my hands to secure it in place with a hair tie.

"You have to be more specific" I say

Hanna is barely ever here yet she keeps half of her clothes in her old bedroom.

She is practically asking me to take something.

"My white heels" she adds

I give the blonde an incredulous facial expression as I pull on some strands of my hair so that they are framing my face.

"I don't wear heels" I state

She groans over dramatically at this answer.

"We're leaving in five minutes and I have no shoes!" She stresses

I ignore my hotheaded sister as she stomps out of my bedroom and into her old one.

Ugh.

She is seriously giving me a headache.

-

I roll my eyes and take a sip of my soda.

Ugh.

The adults here are unbearable.

Most of them have either been glaring at me or side eyeing me.

I am the only person in this entire house who is wearing normal clothes.

They're acting like they have never seen normal clothes before.

A woman pulled me aside a few minutes ago just to criticize my exterior appearance and give me her opinion, as if I'm supposed to care.

"Do your parents know that you are wearing.... that?" the woman asks

I smirk at this question, bringing my glass down to rest in front of my stomach.

"Why don't you ask them yourself," I suggest

I turn around and search for my parents only to begin walking towards them when I spot them near the staircase.

I can physically hear the woman gasp behind me as we approach them.

I internally groan when I realize what I am doing.

I hate to be this type of person, someone who uses their parents for their own gain.

I smile as I stop in front of my parents.

"Hey mother, hey mom!" I greet them

The two of them give me a confused facial expression but smile nonetheless.

"Isabella" my mom greets me

I turn so that I'm facing the same direction as them.

I give the stunned woman a sour smile.

"This kind woman was curious to know if you knew that I am wearing this" I explain to them, motioning towards my outfit that I am currently wearing

My mother furrows her eyebrows at my question, not understanding what I am hinting at.

"Obviously, we rode here in the same car" she responds with an 'are you serious' tone of voice

My guess is that she is probably confused as to why I am asking them so many questions.

My mom takes this chance to suspiciously eye the older, unidentified woman.

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name?" My mom asks the woman

I try to hold in my laughter at my mom's tone of voice.

My mom is an extremely kind woman, but she isn't the best at hiding her emotions from her voice.

In this case she doesn't trust the woman.

The woman seemingly knocks herself out of her daydream and holds her hand out for a handshake.

"Maryanne, Maryanne Duke!" She replies with obvious excitement

Oh.

So she is one of those people.

My mom continues to smile but makes no move to shake her hand.

"Ms. Duke, I suggest that you keep your opinions to yourself and worry about things other than the clothes on my daughter's body" she tells the woman all the while keeping her kind smile on her face

The woman's bright smile slowly begins to fade as she drops her hand.

She glances between the three of us with an appalled facial expression, aiming a dirty glare in my direction before stomping away.

Wow.

"Now that that's settled, why don't you go into the backyard and search for your aunt Carolina" My mother suggests with a genuine smile

I roll my eyes at their horrible attempt at getting a few moments alone.

"If I get mauled by a bear it's your fault" I joke, retreating away from them

I doubt that there are bears around here but you can never be too sure.

I make my way towards the kitchen, accidentally bumping into a few adults along the way.

A few of them glare at me even though they were the ones who bumped into me.

Ugh.

I hate pretentious people.

I swear that there are more people here this year than there was last year.

That is a bad thing.

As I finally enter the kitchen I place my empty glass on the counter and grab a wine glass full of sparkling cider.

I wish they had something stronger, I have an extreme urge to punch one of these botox bitches in the face right now.

I slide open the backdoor and step out into the cold December air, shutting the door behind me.

I slowly begin to make my way down the steps and out towards the swinging bench chair.

I was actually the one who suggested that we install a swinging bench in the gazebo beside the house.

Granted, it was summer when I suggested it.

I down my cider in two seconds as I walk through the dead, icy grass.

I love December but I seriously hate winter.

It snows here every year, which is awesome don't get me wrong, but after a few days it becomes frustrating.

Nobody likes slipping on ice or trudging through snow.

Sure, it is great because we get a break from the overwhelming responsibilities of school, but when we go back it's just another depressing cycle.

I step up onto the gazebo and take a seat on the swing, sighing out of relief that I am finally off of my feet.

Ugh.

I just want to go home and lay in my bed.

Preferably until New Year's Day.

"Oh, I didn't think anyone else would be out here" an unidentifiable voice says a few feet away from me

I turn in the direction of the mystery person only to furrow my eyebrows with confusion.

It is a teenage girl.

She is probably around my age, maybe a little older.

She has long light brown hair that is positioned in soft waves over her shoulders, coffee brown eyes and a light trail of dark brown freckles across the bridge of her nose that contrast with her baked skin tone.

I allow my eyes to curiously shift down her body and eye her gown.

Wow.

Her dress consists of a neutral tan tule.

The top half of her gown resembles a see through corset, becoming more opaque around her breasts.

Her sheer tule sleeves begin at her mid bicep area and flow down to gracefully rest around her wrists.

The lower half of her gown starts at her waist and flows down around her hips, delicately ending around her nude heels.

The skirt of her gown has a long slit that begins at her upper thigh, exposing her toned right leg.

The reason I think that her dress is custom made is because of the various holographic stars.

Her dress has an extremely unique design.

She has silver holographic stars littering the entirety of her gown, some seemingly imbedded in the neutral colored tule.

I have never see this girl in my entire life, but I love her dress.

"I seriously don't mean to sound rude, but who are you?" I ask the mystery girl

She smiles at this.

"I'm Flower," she replies

I furrow my eyebrows at her, confusion most likely written all over my face.

Her name is Flower?

"Weird name, I know," she laughs

She takes this opportunity to walk up onto the gazebo.

I glance at her arms only to notice that she is holding something behind her back.

What is she hiding?

I tense at this discovery, readying myself in case she ambushes me.

"My mom was high and named me after the first thing she saw" the girl explains

Her eyes quickly trail over my body before she leans back against the railing across from me, possibly sensing the sudden tension.

"She saw a flower?" I ask her with a quirked brow

There is no freaking way that this story is true.

"Yeah, I was born near a river" she trails off

She nervously looks down at her heels which makes me relax as a frown paints itself upon my face.

Okay, maybe I'm being a little hard on her.

I just met the girl, the least I can do is be nice to her.

"I'm Isabella," I greet when I realize that I haven't told her my name yet

She lifts her head to face me, her coffee brown eyes displaying curiosity.

"I came out here because the grandma's in there were annoying the hell out of me" I tell her

The light brown haired girl laughs at this.

I smile at the sound of her laughter.

I like the energy that this girl puts out.

I don't really know how to explain it, she just has this positive energy that surrounds her.

It makes you want to get to know more about her.

"You're not wrong, I think one even tried to spill her drink on me" she confesses

My jaw drops at this.

The two of us are silent for a few moments before we burst into a stomach aching laughter.

I am the first one to stop laughing, a smile resting on my face.

My eyes trail back down towards her arms which are behind her back.

She notices this and smirks mischievously.

She brings her hands in front of her to reveal a large bottle of champagne.

Oh my god.

My wish has been answered.

"Where did you find that?" I ask her

When I was inside of the kitchen earlier there were no champagne or wine bottles in sight.

"The wine cellar" She states as if the answer was obvious

I roll my eyes at her as she makes her way over towards me and takes a seat beside me on the wooden swing.

She skillfully pops the cork out of the large glass bottle and eyes it before throwing it in the bushes.

I laugh at this and hold my wine glass out for her to fill.

She jokingly furrows her eyebrows at me, a smirk resting on her face.

"Aren't you a little young to be drinking?" She teases

I roll my eyes at her again.

"I'm sixteen," I tell her

I briefly pause before speaking again.

"I'm assuming you're under twenty-one" I say but it sounds slightly sassy

She laughs at this, slowly taking my glass from my hand and filling it up with the liquid.

"Eighteen," She reveals

She hands me my now full glass with a smile.

I nod my head with amusement as she fills up her glass.

I am assuming that she has done this before judging by the precision and skill she has.

"Cheers?" She suggests, holding her glass up

I smile and mimic her.

"To new friends" I state

She smiles at this, we bring our glasses together before downing the liquid.

She finishes hers before me and turns to face me.

Do I have something on my face?

Her coffee brown eyes stare at me with obvious curiosity.

I go to ask her what is she looking at only to be cut off.

"Who are your parents?" She suddenly questions

I furrow my eyebrows at her suspicious question.

"That was random," she nervously laughs out

"I just- you seem familiar" she vaguely explains

I use one of my hands to tuck a loose strand of my brunette hair behind my ear and out of my face.

"Charlotte and Aspen Wilder" I say truthfully

She gasps at this, turning her body to face me.

What is she freaking out about?

"Wait- are you Isabella Wilder?" She asks

I analyze her facial expression to make sure she is being serious.

I quickly come to the conclusion that she is being dead serious.

"Yes?" I trail off, not too sure where this is going

"We're unofficial cousins!" She exclaims

I furrow my eyebrows at the brown eyed girl, not completely believing her at this very moment.

She senses this and pulls out her cellphone, unlocking it and turning it to face me.

I glance down at the device only to become further confused.

Why does she have a photo of my aunts Maddie and Skylar on her phone?

That is kind of creepy.

"These are my mom's" she tells me

I shake my head at this.

Her story is not adding up.

"I thought you said that your mom gave birth to you beside a river?" I question her

She nods her head at this.

"I was an artificially inseminated baby," she explains

She glances down at her cellphone and points towards my aunt Maddie.

"Maddie gave birth to me," she pauses, giving me time to digest this information

"I prefer not to get into all of the specifics, mainly because I don't even know everything, but they've shown me photos of all all you," she slowly explains

"Although it was a family photo and you were likely ten" she says

I nod my head.

Wow.

I seriously did not expect my aunts Maddie and Skylar to have a child.

I just expected them to travel across the world with each other until they got too old to travel.

"I don't know what to say" I confess with honesty

She smiles, understanding written across her face.

"More champagne?" She suggests as a nervous laugh forces its way out of her

I silently glance over to her and nod my head.

"Yes please"
