Elijah POV

"Oh hey everyone!" Carter's perky voice interrupted the literal armed robbery going on. She walked right up to them as if greeting old friends.

"Uh. Hi?" The guy with the knife said, pausing to look at her. What the fuck?

"Who-" Knife guy was cut off when Carter, quite literally threw her leg into the air, kicking his hand and watching the knife fly into the air, where it flipped three times before landing in her ready open palm.

During his shock at the scene that just occurred in front of him, the mugger's hard grip loosened on Eli. He wrenched his arm out and moved to stand in front of Carter.

Carter elbowed Elijah out of the way to stand in front of him instead.

Eli gave her an outraged look at their now flipped positions. He was not letting a 5'4 girl protect him.

The mugger had gotten over their shock of being disarmed by a girl, charging forwards towards Elijah and Carter.

Eli shoved Carter out of the way, throwing his right fist into the guy's face, as he stumbled back. The guy recovered immediately, launching his fist at Eli. He ducked, punching the guy with an uppercut to the stomach.

As the guy was winded, Eli took the opportunity to knee him where the sun doesn't shine. The guy immediately dropped to the ground, groaning in pain.

Eli reached down, plucking his wallet from the guy's pocket, turning to finish off the other guys. He assumed they wouldn't hit a girl so Carter was safe.

When he turned around, his jaw dropped.

Carter was standing there, effortlessly, wiping her hands off of each other as if she just finished a tiring job. The knife was in her pocket.

Behind her, the two guys from before were knocked out on the floor. What the hell?

Elijah blanched. Did she... did she fight them?!

Carter walked towards him, dropping the knife into the garbage in the alleyway, entwining her arm through his, and pulling them out of the alley, the mess still behind them.

He felt like Tony Stark as the Jericho missile exploded behind him. Not that he could ever compare to Tony Stark.

He pushed her arm away from his, walking ahead and whipping around to face her, cutting off her path. He hated when strangers touched him casually.

"Did you fight those guys?" He interrogated.

"No." She shrugged, casually, still smiling.

"Then how were they knocked out at your feet?" He grilled her.

"I simply knocked their heads together," Carter said. He almost laughed at the image that popped in his mind when she said that. How the hell did she pull that off?

He scowled, turning back to walk away snootily. "You didn't save me, you know. I had that completely handled." He shoved his hands in his pockets.

"Yeah? Is that why you were asking them to stab you in the leg?" She questioned.

He scowled. She heard that? "Shut up. Are you gonna follow me again midge?"

She rolled her eyes at him. The nerve!

"No, I'm going somewhere to meet my friends." She answered him with an indignant look at the nickname he had assigned her.

"Fine." He walked faster. It was already 7 now, and there was no way he was missing Porter's show.

"Fine!" She called after him, teasing him as she got the last word in. He ignored her.

Ten minutes later Elijah entered the Pub, not bothering to hold the door open for whoever was behind him.

"Hey!" He froze at the voice, swirling around to see that the door almost hit Carter in the face.

He groaned internally. "This is where you're meeting your friends?" He asked roughly.

She strolled past him, "Yep!" Cheerful as usual.

The Pub was small, with couches and stools littered throughout. The lighting was dim, and the band at the back was thankfully still setting up. You only needed to ID if you got an alcoholic beverage, which was probably why there were so many younger college students.

He retrieved his phone, checking to see that Della had texted him that she was in the corner closest to the band.

Eli stalked over, completely oblivious to the group of high school girls who were giggling and fawning over him as he walked past them.

When he saw Della's back, she was talking to two people; Raina, and- oh you have got to be fucking kidding.

"Why is she here?" Eli demanded, sitting next to Della, eyes on the person who was sitting across from her.

Carter had a smug look on her face as her green eyes gleaming into his light ones.

"Elijah! meet my friend Raina." She announced. His eyes darted to the blonde that he already knew.

Raina waved at him, giggling. "Hey, Eli. I didn't know you knew Carter." She looked confused as her eyes darted between the two.

"I don't." Elijah deadpanned. Della subtly pushed her lemonade towards him to take a sip if he wanted to. She could tell he was about to get heated.

"Yes, you do, Eli," Carter emphasized his nickname. "We're friends." She turned to Raina. "I just saved his butt from being mug-"

"We are not friends!" Elijah cut her off hurriedly before she exposed him. She did not save his butt from anything!

Della spoke up then, thankfully changing the subject. "Wait so if you know Carter, how have we never met her?" She asked Raina.

She had a point. Raina had been at a lot of the events that Eli had been dragged to. He had never seen Carter. He wouldn't forget a face like hers. Because it was annoying. Yeah. That's the only reason.

"Carter grew up in New York like me. We both went to high school together. She took a year off after high school. That's why you guys never saw her last year." Raina explained, eyes flashing to Carter during her words.

"I go to Columbia." Carter finished her explanation. "I just started." She was looking pointedly at Eli.

At that moment, they heard a voice ring out through the club. It was Porter, introducing his band and their members.

Eli grabbed Della's lemonade, taking a sip.

He noticed Carter was intently watching his lips wrap around the straw and suck, while he kept his eyes on hers. Why was she looking at him like that?

She shook her head slightly, as if shaking herself out of a trance, then turned her body around to watch the band.

Porter was the lead singer, and guitarist. Enzo played the guitar, Jamie played the keyboard, and Flora was on the drums.

They had a very goth, punk rock vibe to them. While the rest of the band dressed in dark clothing and had an overall gloomy presence, Porter was the opposite. He was red-headed, childish, and a complete goofball.

People always told Eli he would fit better in the band, with his dark clothes and his tattoos. Not that he would ever actually play in front of an audience.

As Porter started playing through their track-list, Carter turned back around to face Eli.

"Can you use your ID and get me a drink?" She inquired.

"No." He took another sip of Della's lemonade.

Della laughed, "don't worry Carter, Eli is always in a bad mood, I don't know why we put up with him. I'll get you a drink" She reached into her purse to fish out her own fake ID.

Eli gave her a withering look.

"Great!" Carter got up. "I'm sure you and I have a lot to talk about." Her eye contact was kept on Della, but Eli knew those words were directed at him.

He shot up immediately. If Della knew about the mugging, then so would Porter. If Porter knew, so would Luke. He would never hear the end of it.

"No. I'll get you one." He scowled and walked off as Carter followed him to the bar section of the Pub.

"Get me something fruity and really sweet." She requested.

He ordered the most bitter and hard drink, sliding it over to her with a smirk when the bartender faced the other way.

She took an unsure sip, and her face scrunched up like a baby's would after eating lemon for the first time.

Eli almost laughed at her sour expression. "Do you not usually drink?" He asked her. He found it weird that she hadn't known the drinks herself.

"Not really." She answered, sliding the drink towards him. He left it on the bar.

"Oh. I don't owe you anymore!" Carter suddenly remembered.

"What are you talking about?"

"I saved you from being mugged. So I don't owe you from when you helped me get away from those cops."

Eli had a dilemma. He didn't want her to owe him in the first place. But he also didn't want to admit that she helped him with the mugging.

He stayed silent as they walked back to their group.

Porter finished playing his set, and the people at the pub cheered for them. He hopped off the short stage, immediately spotting Eli. He stalked over. Guitar in hand and goofy grin present on his face.

He slung his arm over Eli's shoulder,

"Hey, guys!" His voice was slightly raspy after his singing. His green eyes surveyed all the people there, pausing on Carter.

"You're that girl from last week! I'm Porter. But cute girls like you get to call me Port." He winked at her.

Eli shoved his arm off his shoulders. "Your nickname is lame"

Porter snorted. "Shut up, Blondie."

Carter's eyes lit up. "Hey! I call him that too!"

Porter smiled big. "Well, random girl from last week, I can tell we are gonna be good friends."

Carter returned his smile, sticking her hand out in greeting. "Carter Sakuna. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Porter's dumbass took her hand and bent down slightly, placing a short kiss on the top. "As am I, madam."

Eli cringed.

"You're both weird and embarrassing." He thought aloud.

He turned away as they started conversing, placing his attention on Della, who was telling a story.

Now Carter knew both of his best friends. He didn't quite know how to feel about that.
