Alyssa

I found a song that just gave me inspiration to write and I couldn't let the opportunity pass. The lyrics were so moving and brought back beautiful memories. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to write but now I do.

I got some snacks from the kitchen and set them in my room and a drink. Then I got my laptop, turned on the air conditioner and pulled the thick blanket over myself. As soon as the music started, my hands moved, typing rapidly.

The rain poured on her, soaking her red hair and clothes. She cursed herself for not taking an umbrella despite what her mother said when she left her house, knowing how unpredictable the weather could be.

She was the only one walking on the street without one and moved faster than others so she could get home to a nice relaxing bath but that was a thirty minute walk in the cold and for someone who got sick easily, it wasn't so advised.

She wrapped her arms around herself with a slight shiver and sniffed. She wished someone would have the common decency to offer some help but judging by her previous experience with people it wasn't likely.

She decided to wait out the rain and took shelter under a shade, her teeth already clattering with the cold. She could feel the distinctive head ache that hit her when she was about to get sick and groaned.

From the look of things, the rain was stopping any time soon, it even looked like it was getting worse. Just as she was going to face the terrible weather again, a man came up to her, holding exactly what she needed, an umbrella.

“Need some help?” A man joined her in the shade, not a drop of water on him. He had a kind smile and eyes the color of honey, his hair was a dark blonde and he spoke with an American accent, uncommon for people in Spain.

Her guard was up instantly. “No.”

Despite this was just what she wished for, she didn't want to accept it. She knew how men were, they'd do you one small favor and expect you to sleep with them, she wasn't falling for it.

“Are you sure? You look like you need it.”

Her temper flared immediately. “Are you saying I look desperate?”

“What? No, I just wanted to give you my umbrella.” He offered it to her, not fazed by her attitude.

“Well, I don't need it.” She refused stubbornly.

“Well, the rain doesn't seem to be stopping soon and you look like you have somewhere to be. So, please, just take it and save yourself the cold you're gonna get.” It killed her that he was right.

She let out a defeated breath as her shoulders slumped. She didn't have a reason to dislike but something about him irked her. He was too happy, if that was even a thing. Why was he being so nice to her when she was so rude to him? This doesn't make sense, he was supposed to leave.

“What about you?” She asked. “You'll get wet.”

“I think I'll be fine.” The man gestured to a car parked right behind them, definitely his. “Take it.”

She obliged. “Thank you.”

“See, that wasn't so hard, was it?”

He made her giggle slightly. “Sorry, I had a bad day.”

“I understand. Hope you get home safe.”

“How do I get this back to you?” She didn't like having people's things with her, not even friends so she had to return his umbrella.

“I'll give you my number, let's go out for coffee tomorrow.”

Uncharacteristically, she agreed and took his phone number. He was about to get into his car when she called out. “What's your name?”

“Daniel, Daniel Jordan!”

“I'm Camilla.”

“See you soon, Camilla.”

I didn't realize I was crying till I stopped typing only to touch my cheeks and feel the wetness. My mom and dad had one of the most typical yet romantic love stories ever.

After they met, my mom really did catch a cold and didn't contact him till three days later. My father didn't have the company then, in fact, he was going to meet an investor and was on his way to his hotel when he saw her 'shivering like a scared puppy' as he said when he told me the story.

He had left Spain, where my mom is from, and didn't see her until a month after. They dated, fell in love, got married in the span of one year and had me soon after. And my mom never returned that umbrella and loved the rain afterwards.

While they were alive, I got to see what true love was about, I guess I forgot when they died and I was thrown to Christopher but this song kind of helped me remember. I miss them. I miss seeing them tease each other and gagging when they'd kiss in front of me.

But I was also thankful that they showed me what true love looked like and I'm sure that what Nathan was giving me was true love not just pity feelings. We've been back for about a week and since what I consider was our honeymoon, it's been amazing.

He took ever chance he got to steal a kiss or tell me he loved me. It always warmed my heart to hear and made all my worries melt away. And of course, let's not forget Oliver who would gag when we kissed in front of him.

Despite the pressing problems, I was happy. I had my perfect family, a husband I can't love any less and a son that I'd give my life for. I would've never thought I'd be feeling like this a few months ago. How did I get so lucky?

The sound of my phone ringing interrupted my thoughts. My lips stretched to a smile when I saw the caller ID.

“Hi, Love.”

“Hi, Nathan!” I nearly yelled with a giggle.

“You sound cheerful, having fun without me?”

I rolled my eyes then I remembered he couldn't see me. “Of course I am. The house is quiet and I'm finally getting some writing done.”

“Finally!” We laughed. “So, can you come to my office today? I need you to come for a meeting.”

It was weird that he wanted to for a meeting. Since we married, I haven't had to go to any meetings with anyone or to work even so it's going to be kind of strange to me but I'm sure I can manage.

“Sure, who's the meeting with?”

“An investor that wasn't at the company he says he wants to meet you.”

That was kind of reasonable. I agreed and he hung up not long after but not before mentioning he loved me. Hearing that alone have me the motivation to try to look good.

I only had an hour before the time he asked me to meet him at so I took a quick shower before I picked out my outfit. I chose a grey penciled skirt and royal blue blouse with a pair of platform heels the same color. The make up I did was professional but not too much and I styled my hair in a curly ponytail.

When I walked past the mirror on my way out, I couldn't help but admire myself a bit. I looked beautiful. The clothes showed off my curves and the blouse was such a nice contrast to my hair. Maybe that's why Nathan said blue was my color.

I barely had a minute to spare by the time I got to his company. He had assigned me a special parking spot next to his and ordered that no one park there. I was so embarrassed when he actually got a sign with my name on it but it did keep people away and saved me the hassle of finding a spot when I came here.

I got into the executive elevator and gave my thumbprint to verify my identity before it took me to his floor. His assistant didn't stop me from entering his office but she did give me a nasty look that just screamed how jealous she was.

She should be.

I knocked once and didn't wait for a reply before I opened the door. Nathan was sitting at his table, glaring at his computer. His hair was slightly tousled like he had run his hand through it a few times, something he did when he was frustrated.

He looked up when I shut the door and his lips curled into an playful smile. “Someone took time with their looks today.”

My face flushed as I approached his desk. I let out a yelp when he suddenly pulled me into his lap but my mouth was soon covered by his. I had a hard time keeping up with the fervent kiss and had to take a few breaths when he pulled away.

“I really needed that.” I chuckled at his statement, burying my face into his chest.

“Work must be terrible.”

“It is. I think we should go on another honeymoon, what do you think?”

So I wasn't the only one who thought of it as a honeymoon. “I think you're just trying to skip work and I won't allow you do that. If it's getting too much you can always ask for my help.”

Before he could reply, his door burst open and his assistant came in. Did she even knock? “Sir, your meeting is in thirty minutes.”

Nathan's face hardened and I glared at her. Does she always do that? Doesn't she know she can't just burst into her boss's office like that? I mean she did see me come in.

“I know, Rachel.”

Her eyes flicked to me sitting in Nathan's lap and she couldn't hide her distaste. “Just wanted to remind you, sir. You should leave now if you want to get there on time.”

“I know.”

The girl nodded and was about to step out of the room when I spoke up. “And next time you want to enter this office, you knock. You were lucky enough to not walk in on something today but I can't guarantee that luck if this happens again.”

Her eyes narrowed at me. “Yes ma'am.”

“You can go now and make sure to shut the door on your way out.”

She practically stormed out of the office and closed the door quite hard. I could feel Nathan's chest rumbling as he chortled. I can't believe he's laughing at this. Didn't he know what the girl did was wrong? Hasn't he ever reprimanded her for it?

“And what are you laughing at?” I demanded with a raised eyebrow and my arms crossed across my chest.

“Nothing.”

“Yeah, right.” I made a move to get off him but he held me back.

“You are very sexy when your jealous.” The way he whispered it made shivers run down my spine.

I scoffed. “I was not jealous. I just don't like her.”

He stifled his laugh when he saw my glare. “I wonder why.”

“She has a terrible attitude.”

“You know you don't have to be jealous. I only have eyes for you.” I felt him plant a kiss on my temple and my anger melted.

“Fine, you win, I was jealous.”

“But you don't have to be.”

“I know. Now, let's go for that meeting.” I tried to get up again but he didn't let me.

“So you're just going to leave me like this?” I knew exactly what he was talking about.

He grunted when I put more pressure on him, grinding on him harder. In his moment of weakness, I was able to stand up and get about a foot away. “You'll be late and I don't want that to happen, maybe later.”

“You know I won't let you sleep tonight, right?”

I looked over my shoulder with a smirk. “I'm looking forward to it.”

I walked out of the office first with him right behind me. There was already a car waiting to take us to our destination. It wasn't long before we got there. It was an empty plot of land with some construction equipment parked there.

I wonder who we're meeting.

I discovered who not even two minutes after. I stopped in my tracks seeing Christopher standing with Hailey facing the site. I looked to Nathan with a questioning glare.

“I know what I'm doing.”

And what is that? Have me scared to death? “You said we're meeting with someone who wasn't at the wedding, you didn't mention anything about them being here.”

“I know what I said and I'm sorry I lied but I had to.”

“I can't do this, Nathan.”

I can handle Hailey but not her father. I know even with Nathan here he'll find a way to get back at me for what I said to him and not answering when he tried to contact me. Maybe he knows I told Nathan about what he's done. Nathan was right, I am scared of him.

“Yes, you can. Come on.” I forced my legs to move as he led me to them.

I got the usual reception from Hailey while Christopher smiled, shaking Nathan's hand.

“Nice to see you again, Alyssa. I wasn't expecting you here.” His eyes flickered to my wrist and his evil smile widened. “I see you're wearing the watch I gave you.”

I forced the words out of my mouth as calmly as I could. “It's a nice watch.”

“Good you think so. I picked it out myself.” Well, I'm throwing it away after this.

When he didn't say anything after, Hailey took it as the perfect opportunity to throw herself onto Nathan in what I think was supposed to be a hug. Nathan didn't return it obviously and even pushed her away.

The meeting was excruciating. The contractor was a man in his thirties and this was where the hotel was supposed to be built. It took an hour to go through the hotel plans and for most of it I was left with Hailey a distance from Nathan.

As per usual, she tried to bring me down but I didn't let her. It took me reminding her how Nathan chose me over her to shut her up. It felt quite nice to spite her like that.

“Care to explain yourself?” I said a bit nastily once we got into the car

I was clearly upset with him. Why wouldn't tell me that he was supposed to meet Christopher and why even bring me along? He knows how I feel about him so why would he choose to even let him near me?

“I just wanted to test something.”

Test? “So I look like a guinea pig now?”

“No, that's not it. I've seen you stand up to Hailey before and when you're around her you're not like you are with Christopher. You're more scared of him than any of them, I wanted to be sure.”

“And you did it knowing that I am not comfortable around any of them and without any regard for my feelings?”

“I know, it was a dick thing to do. But think of it this way, If all goes well Christopher and his family show be in jail soon and they should see how much better you've become since you left their house before then. I didn't mean to hurt you.”

Knowing that in my current state of anger I could say something I'd regret I decided I didn't want to be around him for now. “I want to go home.”

I saw that he wanted to say something but he didn't. “Okay. I'll tell the driver to take you home after dropping me off.”

“I drove to your office.”

“I'll use the car to pick Oliver up. I don't want you driving when you're angry.”

I agreed with his reasoning and handed my car keys to him. The ride back was kind of awkward because of the silence. I took the time to do some thinking. I shouldn't be mad at Nathan, he's the only one who's cared enough to help me and here I am snapping at him. I feel bad.

The car stopped and Nathan pecked my lips before he opened the door. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” His lips turned up in a small smile.

I have him a little wave before the car drove off. I kicked my shoes off as I locked the front door and plopped down on the couch with a tired sigh. I changed into one of Nathan's hoodies which was quite big on me and a pair of my leggings and made myself some lunch, spaghetti always makes me feel better.

Now wanting to do anything else, I watched a few episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender to kill time. I only looked away from the TV when Nathan called to tell me that he and Oliver would be home a bit late and when the doorbell rang. From the screen next to the door that was connected to a secret camera overlooking the porch, I saw that it was a woman outside.

She rang the doorbell again a couple of times like an immature child, making me feel like riping it out. I opened the door and she pushed past me rudely, stepping into the house like she owned the place.

She was a strawberry blonde haired woman with green eyes. Her skin was on the paler side and she was dressed very expensively. She and I were about the same height and size, only she had a fuller bust.

“I'm looking for Nathan, where is he?” She demanded.

“Um, who are you?”

She shot me a disgusted look, eyeing me up and down before she sat on one sofas. “I don't think I have to explain myself to the help around here. Now tell Nathan I'm here and get me a drink.” Is she for real? “What are you still standing there for? Go!”

“I am not the help and you can not talk to me like that. Now tell me, why do you want to see Nathan?”

“You look like a maid and even if you're not, I do not answer to you. I'm looking for Nathan Graham, get him for me.”

“I don't know what planet you come from but here on earth when you go to a place your not know, you introduce yourself.” I stated, venom lacing my words.

“You don't know who I am? Do you live under a rock.”

I raised my hands and gestured to the house I was standing in. “Obviously not!”

“Then…” She was cut off by the door opening.

Oliver ran in and straight to me, gripping my legs in a hug. His presence immediately put a smile on my face. “Hi, sweetheart, how was school?”

“School was awesome!” He practically yelled. “I got my last gold star and it's Friday which means I got a bag of candy!”

“That's amazing. You were a very good boy this week, huh?”

He nodded fervently. “And Sam and Israel want to come over for a playdate, can they? Pleeeeeeeeeeeease?!”

I chuckled at his energy. “I'll get their parents' numbers and ask them.”

“Yay!” His attention went to the strange woman still sitting on the sofa. “Who's that?”

“Jodie?”
