They grey cotton clumped against the once blue sky blocking out the once warm rays of sunshine. The trees swayed with the cool wind, shaking the dried leathery leaves which created an aged rustling sound through the forest. The wooden creatures had started to bunker down in their homes, craving safety away from the harsh element that was on its way. The thick smell of humidity started to fill the air as the clouds drew in darker shades.

The predicted rains had come by much sooner causing everyone back at the colony to scurry around to lock down the Kin Trees and make their way to the caverns. The preparations made under leader Avery's commands were not fully completed but still managed to fulfill the purpose of housing the members of the colony safely. Different rooms have been constructed by modifying open cavern spaces into tiny apartment-like homes completed with movable stone doors and a functioning light source provided by the light worms, which were kept in small holes modified to hold feeding areas for the worms. Each home had space for sleeping arrangements for large families along with a separate storage and dining area. The design plans were strange most had to admit with the project for the small leader drew in the dirt and precisely depicted the construction plans. Strange symbols made it simple to understand once each meaning was explained as the 'blue print' was copied onto long dried bark strips to be carried around. Though the name didn't make much sense for the bark strips most had to agree that it was a revolutionary idea that could help with future structural renovations for the colony. Though the housing wasn't the only addition to the cave. Ventilation holes were drilled through the roof of the cave and burrowed deep into the caverns allowing fresh air to filter through. And to prevent anyone from falling into them special bars were made allowing room. These hole also acted as a draining system that moved all the water to the very last cavern that was currently the hardest to reach and deemed unsafe for living was now used as a large water tank that will be drained after the rain has passed by.

Zones for communal fires were also built as they were centered in court yard areas near the ventilation holes. Dry wood was stacked in piles near the fire pits. The pits themselves were very sophisticated in design as they were sloped lower into the ground with stone bricks lining the borders from the rim above. There were even strange spits aligned over the fires for the purpose of roasting and drying an assortment of goods. If the colony was honest this posed an even greater potential to live in the caverns for bachelors who do not have a Kin Tree of their own. Many were busy away claiming their shelters and furnishing them with furs. Many were still unaware that their leader has returned which lead to some panic when they had stumbled upon him.

His imposing stature and battle scar face made it difficult not to feel instantaneous fear around him. Luckily for most all his usual intimidating aura had faded away due to his mate resting in his arms. She was dirty and corpse-like, if anyone was being honest they would have thought she was just dug out of a grave. She barely moved in his arms but carried with her a dangerous aura that matched her peeved expression she wore on her face, if any were so lucky to see it.

"So this is what you where up to in the time I was gone?" Soren marveled at the sights around him as he let out a chuckle. He honestly couldn't believe the sight before him, this wasn't something he could ever dream of not something he expected from his little mate. "It's a wonderful and beautiful surprise, you must have put a lot of care into it." He looked back down at his mate lovingly. How could he not cherish her? She had worked so hard for the colony all on her own without him. Soren watched as his made wriggled around in his hold as he walked further through the lively cavern.

Avery glanced up at Soren, still feeling sick under his touch. Though despite that she managed to push down her unease of a moment and thought about the small city she had planned. In all honesty it was...alright. to be honest she wished she had more time to fix it up more. The homes were slanted and uneven as the spacing between the walkways and buildings fluctuated due to her rushed blue prints. But despite all the imperfections she could see it sill made her feel a bit fuzzy to hear praise about her idea, something she wasn't quite use to hearing back home.

"I did think a lot about the layout, but I feel due to how rushed the project was we would have to go back and make a lot of changes." She huffed out as she crossed her arms over her chest. "Though I'm happy it turned out at least this well, in all honesty I was worried that we would have stability problems due to the slabs being slightly uneven, making this all a bit unsafe." Avery's eyes turned cloudy as she continued to pick apart all the insecurities of her poor planing.

"Well that's enough of that Avery," Soren knitted his brows together after hearing his mate talk negatively of her efforts. He knows this couldn't have been easy to do, just bringing down these large slabs would have been a difficult task to organize productively, even if they were beastmen. "You did a wonderful job at setting up these shelters for the colony. Now everyone could stay in the caverns safely unlike before were our new females had to suffer through the cold and having to bunch everyone together in a mass pile." Soren couldn't help the wide smile that graced his face as his gentle eyes gazed into his mates.

She was precious, a treasure. She was small and delicate yet had a stubborn side to her. She was also quite crafty from the looks of things along with being a strong leader. Though taking care of his mate still seemed to be in order. At the moment he was really sicken by the report he received and how poor of health she appears. He trusted Brynn and her kin to take care of Avery, it seems that they have failed to do so. First she will need to bathe then change into some clean clothing. Afterwards Soren can take her to the healer to treat the ailment that she was suffering from.

In Sorens heart it ached in longing and sorrow. 'How could she suffer like this? Who allowed that!?' That passionate cry caused him to settle on the idea to remind the colony who exactly was in charge. Clearly they all had forgotten in his absence and took advantage of Avery.

The drunken smile on Sorens face fell stiff at the thought but only for a moment. He couldn't forget who he was holding after all. She was safe now, with him. Her cold skin embraced his as he hugged her to his chest. She was so cold, too cold. Her hallow eyes met his as they tried to fight off sleep. He was happy at the thought of her not wanting to miss a moment with him but he knew that rest was what she really needed. "You know it is alright to rest. I'm here now, you can sleep easy."

His words were like warm honey, sticky and sickeningly sweet. Avery's frown became longer at this. "Im not tired," She spat as her eyelids became even heavier at the reminder. "If anything I'm hungry."

Soren almost felt elated at the sound of her voice if it wasn't for how rough and worn it was. This didn't stop him from being enthusiastic over it. This was the moment he could do something for her, anything she wanted. Finally he can be a proper mate. "What do you want to eat then? I'm sure there are some stored fruits we can-"

"Soren, absolutely no fruit." Her tone was firm as her eyes glowed in annoyance. The shy violet ring faded away as she softened her tone. "Sorry..it's just I get bat beastmen eat fruit but...I really can't live off of just that. I need meat, eggs, or just something that is not a plant." Soren saw the disgust on her face that was brought about by the memory of mashed fruit.

Soren could only laugh a little by her reaction in understanding. "It is quite alright, I know it must be...tiering to eat fruit over and over. I'll surprise you with something special then." A very gave a confused look at Sorens words but despite that Soren didn't give further answer. Instead she was brought along with Soren as he flew out of the cavern.

Finally the two were reunited. And nothing on Eden can tear Avery apart from Soren.
