Sophie

"Come Sophie. Who else am I supposed to ask? You're my best friend. Please?" Troy insisted.

"You can ask Lexie. She's your best friend too."

"Ugg, you're so hopeless. Childish and selfish Sophie. How can you say that? Besides, Lexie is already a bridesmaid or groom maid. . . whatever you want to call it. Please, Sophie!" I grunted and closed my eyes in surrender over the phone.

"Oh, you are such a drama queen. Fine, I will be your maid of honor." He screamed with joy over the phone, deafening my ear.

"Who are you talking to?" Nathan asked behind me making me turn towards him.

"Umm, my friend Troy. He's getting married." I said making him nod and walk away. He was too busy watching dumb videos of funny TikToks.

"Ok, I'll be there in a few weeks. You better not make me regret this Michaelson. Seriously. I mean it."

"I promise Sophie, you will not regret coming back to town." He assured me making me sigh.

"You don't even have to worry about any major preparations, my grandma and Dylan's step-mom are taking care of most things." He added making me feel relief.

I'm good at capturing a wedding through pictures, but not organizing one. I was so happy for Troy, he deserves to be happy.

He has gone through so much with Dylan. I'm glad they are still together. Dylan was away for a few years in the marines and studying medicine. They endured the hardship of being away from each other for so long.

I am over the moon happy for them.

There were only two things that scared me to go back there. One- I haven't been back since mom died. Just thinking about her makes a big knot build up in my throat. I miss her so much.

I still remember the long sleepless nights when Nathan was born. It was always her who helped me to ease any doubts about how I was doing as a young mom.

Nathan doesn't remember her much, but I make sure to show him pictures of her all the time. He gets spoiled by his grandpa and his uncles whenever they are down here visiting.

He doesn't know we will be going to Lakeview for Troy's wedding. But to be honest, knowing that Logan just graduated from law school and is working for the firm in New York makes me at ease to go back.

I had been thinking of going back home for good. Lexie and her boyfriend helped me find a nice home for us. It's nothing big, just a three-bedroom for Nathan and me, plus a guestroom for whenever grandpa or his inches want to visit.

I was planning on leaving a few weeks before the wedding, but work has me tired up.

My books are hitting big, Lexie keeps asking me to do a book signing, but I have been putting it off. I'm not sure I'm ready to make myself publicly known.

Nathan and I don't get out much, so I'm taking a road trip with him to Tennessee. From there, I will be picking up Lexie at the airport and driving to her parent's ranch.

Hopefully, by then, our home will be ready for us to move in. I'm ready to settle down. I'm done with dating and trying to find my happily ever after. I'm happy with my life, my career, and most of all, I'm happy being just Nathan and me. He's my whole world.
********

D-day.

Lexie and I have been back in Lakeview for a few days. I've been too busy helping her with her parent's ranch and shopping for furniture for our house.

I am so overjoyed with all that is happening. It feels so good to be back home. I pushed my kart around as I shopped for new plates and kitchen goods.

"Uff.  I am so sorry." I said as my kart bumped into a girl that looked around my age.

"Oh, it's ok. Don't worry about it." She smiled and moved her kart the other way. She had a kart full of stuff as well.

We kept bumping into each other and decided to stop to chat. She was really friendly. Her name is Roxanne, though she told me to call her Roxie.

She just moved to a new apartment a few weeks ago down by my old high school. Apparently, she is one of the new teachers at the elementary school.

I told her about Nathan, and how I will be enrolling him in school this upcoming year. She just so happened to be a first-grade teacher, which is where my cubby-bear will be going into.

It would be so cool if my son had her as a teacher. She seemed so nice. She also told me she was seeing someone who just came to town and works as a lawyer in a new law office that just opened. Though she says it's nothing serious because the guy says he's not ready for a serious commitment. Guys! I swear all they want nowadays is to have a bit of fun and then walk away as if it never happened. I was glad I chose to stay completely single and strived far away from dating.

We shopped together for the rest of the afternoon and had lunch together. By one, she got a phone call from the guy she was seeing and left.

She gave me her number so we could hang out sometime.

I got in my car and began driving away. My heart skipped as I made a turn down a street leading to my new house. There was a restaurant nearby where I was picking up Nathan and his new nanny.

I turned to look for them inside since they were only getting takeout. My heart began to skip uncontrollably as I saw Logan and Troy sitting together inside, eating at the same table.

But what made me lose it, was that my son was right in front of them, talking to both of them.

I had to do something quickly. I dialed Kaitlyn, Nathan's nanny's number, and shook eagerly in place. My nerves were getting the best of me.

"Hi, Sophie. Are you almost here? I just got our food, we're waiting for you."

"I'm outside. Can you please hurry Kaitlyn? I'm sorry, but I'm in a bit of a hurry."

"Oh, sure no problem. We'll be right out."

Things just got complicated for me. I came back hoping Logan had a busy life in New York. What was he doing back in Lakeview? For my sake and everyone, I hoped that he was only here for a quick visit. If not, things were definitely going to take a big turn for all of us.

Days went by, and I had no choice but to confront Logan. We began bumping heads a lot. More than before we dated back in high school. It's as if he was out to make my life a living hell again.

But it didn't take us long before we were back in bed together. I hated that he always made my knees weak and feel vulnerable in his arms.

He was breaking his distance promise. And to be honest, I didn't mind one bit. Sex was amazing. He knew how to please me, remembering every detail of my body just like before.

He knew my weak spots, my preferences, and my dislikes. I hated that he pays so much attention to each detail.
*********

Troy's wedding day.

Things got way out of hand between Logan and me. We have gone through so much turmoil, it was like riding on the worst roller coaster in the world.

Finding the truth was a shocker to me. It filled me with anger, sadness, and so much regret.

Amber is slowly learning to take one day at a time. Her daughter and my son are becoming good friends. I'm glad my baby was born with such an amazing heart, just like his dad.

"What are you thinking about babe?" Logan whispered in my ear as I sat in my seat glancing at the dancing couples.

I smiled, looking towards him.

Nothing much. Just wondering. . . what would be of us if we knew the truth seven years ago? We definitely missed out on so much together.

"True. But you know, I'm glad you finally came back to me. Now, I can finally do this." He says as he kneels before me.

"Logan. . . .what. . . what are you doing?"

He reached into his pocket and brought out a blue velvet box. "Sophie Marie Patterson. You will never get away from me again. And if you do, I will search for you till the end of the earth. I love you, it has always been you, Sophie. Will you finally make me the happiest man alive, and marry me?" My eyes were pricked with tears.

I covered my mouth with both hands and sighed joyfully, nodding through tears.

"Yes. Yes, oh God, yes. I love, you Logan. I love you so much."

"Does this mean we get to finally be a family?" Nathan says making us pull apart from our kiss.

"What? Son, we already are a family. But yes, mommy and I are getting married. Will you be our ring boy for us?"

"Ring boy? What's that mom?" We chuckled and pulled him in the middle, kissing him and hugging him tightly.

"We are definitely going to be a happy family Nate."

"Ok, but can you make sure that mom gives me a brother. I don't want another sister. I already have Kenzie." He says making us chuckle.

Logan softly rubbed my stomach gently. It was too soon for us to know what we were having, I was only six weeks after all. But I was sure I was going to have another boy.

"I love you, Sophie." He says, caressing my cheek and kissing me on my lips.

"And I love you, Logan."
