Logan

"We're home." I entered the door of my house, followed by Sophie holding my hand with one hand and holding Charlie in her other hand.

My mom and aunt were at the kitchen cooking up a storm for tomorrow. They had an 'event' to go to. By that I mean, part of Sophie's birthday surprise.

Meghan and Ashley were sitting in the living room playing video games.

"Hi, honey. Sophie come here honey, I want you to try these new desserts I learned to do." Mom calls out to Sophie making her smile.

"Sure." She jolts happily towards them but gets stopped by the evil twins.

"OMG! Sophie, you got a puppy?" Ashley yells with all her enthuse followed by Meghan. "Oh my god, it's so cute!" Meghan shrieks, letting out a loud squeak.

"Yes. This is Charlie. Isn't he so cute? Logan got him for me." Ashley looks at me pissed off, with her arms crossed. She has been wanting a puppy of her own. The way she scolds me, makes me feel guilty.

"Did he now? Well isn't that nice of my brother?" She low-key flips me off making me chuckle. I pull her by her arm kissing her head and squeezing her hard.

"Asshole! I hate you. You said you couldn't afford a puppy." She whispers so only she and I could heat while Sophie gets surrounded by my mom, Meghan, and my aunt.

"Ash, I'm sorry. I promise, soon as Sophie's birthday passes, I will get a puppy for you. Ok?" Her smile turns wide and returns my hug soon as she hears my words.

"Fine. But I want a pug. And make it a girl. I want to call her Daisy." I squint my eyes, pursing my lips and looking heavenward. I sigh, hoping I can pull this off for her.

"Fine. I'll get you a girl pug. Happy? Brat!" I sigh, taunting her.

"Asshole."

"Pain in the ass."

"Nerd. By the way, why do you smell like a plate of spaghetti and ketchup?" I chuckled, looking at Sophie who smiles. She's probably remembering a few hours back at our food fight.

"Um, you know? Fridays, it's spaghetti day for lunch. I accidentally spilled spaghetti on my shirt." I pursed my lips, running my fingers through her hair, messing it up.

"Logan? Uggh, don't do that! You messed up my hair dork." She always gets irritated when I ruffle her hair.

Mom looks at me, with her head slightly turned aside. "Spilled it on yourself huh? And on Sophie, who still looks like she has spaghetti sauce smeared on her hair, and Steven, I'm pretty sure. And many other students, by the sound of your principal's irritated voice when he called. What did he say again?" She pats her index on her chin, one eye closed and looking heavenward.

"Ah yes, Mrs. Spencer, may I remind you, our cafeteria staff works very hard to prepare the meals to enrich the nutrition of our students. Your son, Logan Alexander Spencer is now under my radar once again. If this happens again I will be forced to keep him for a few Saturdays to clean up our school." Her voice deepens as she mocks the principal's voice.

"Ooohhhh. . . . busted!" Ashley and Meghan mock in unison making Sophie and I turn red. My mom glares at them with a warning making them turn just as red.

Sophie's face looks beautiful; her face turns blushed as she hears my mom. "Shit. Sorry, mom. I swear it just started as a small playful fight between Sophie and me. We never thought our friends would join in on it. Next thing you know, everyone in the cafeteria is just tossing shit everywhere. It was epic mom."

"I know. It was so much fun aunt Riley. There was even a kid that fell head-on in the trash can when he was running from a friend trying to dodge a plate full of sauce." Mom glares at Meghan with a smile.

"I swear it won't happen again, mom." I tried to reassure her that this incident would not be repeated.

"Luckily for you, he let you guys off with a warning. But, Hailey called and had a brilliant idea. So, I promise him that you and Sophie will now be volunteering for the upcoming field trip to the old mountain trail. So, good luck with that guys. You are now committed to attending that event." I scuffed, slouching my shoulders.

"Fuck. Seriously? I hate going to that mom. It's a five-mile hike up that mountain, and five miles down. Plus it will be right after a big game. Do we really have to?"

"Yes. You both have to. Or would you prefer to do Saturday work for your school?" She raises her eyebrow and tilts her head in warning. I know that look, it's her don't mess with mom look.

I sigh, tilting my head back. "Fine. I'll get a permission slip from Mrs. Richards to fill it out."

"No need. I already talked to her too." My mouth gawks open, and I gesture towards Sophie who just giggles. Unlike me, Sophie likes to hike. I get enough leg practice from football.

"Now." She takes Charlie in her arms and cuddles him. "You two, upstairs and clean up. Sophie, I need you to try my new Korean dessert." Sophie's eyes widen in surprise.

"Oh my god." She drags her words looking at mom.

"Riley, did you finally make Mochi?" Her face lights up in amusement with a bright smile, reflecting mom's bright smile.

"I did. It was so much easier than I thought. So I want the two of you to get upstairs and clean up and hurry back so you can try them. It's for an event tomorrow. So I want them to be perfect."

"Ok. Yeah sure. I'd love to try them."

"My favorite so far is the taro flavor with the black beans Soph. You gotta try them." Meghan suggests.

"Nope. The best one is the green tea. It's so good!" Ashley calls from behind me, placing her arms around my waist.

"Ok. I'll try both. Um, can you girls handle Charlie while I clean up? I have food and toys in Logan's trunk if you need anything." She says as she takes the first step to the stairs.

"Ok. I'll hold him," Meghan suggests getting an angry glare from Ashley.

"No. I'll hold him," Ashley says as she tries to grab Charlie away.

"Actually. Both of you still have to finish your assignments. So I will hold him." My aunt says as she takes Charlie in her arms.

We go upstairs and shower, change and come back down.

I went to my computer and took advantage of Sophie brushing her hair and placing lotion on. I opened the file with our final report for Mrs. McGee's class due on Monday and printed two copies out.

We went downstairs and sat with my mom, sister, cousin, and auntie. We tried the mochi's mom made. I gotta say, they were too chewy for me. But Sophie seemed to love them, which was what I was hoping for. Her surprises for the birthday showering had just barely begun.

I looked at her, while she moaned at the taste of the purple mochi topped with pistachios making me chuckle

"Oh my god! This one has got to be my favorite. You outdid yourself, Riley. They are so good." She looks at mom, receiving a bright smile in return.

"Thanks, honey. I'll make extras so you can take a few home tonight."

"Actually. She's sleeping over. I hope you don't mind mom. Her parents are going to be out tomorrow, and Jason is going with them. I'll be picking up Aaron in a few minutes." I looked at mom hopeful that she doesn't mind. Which she usually, or more like never neglects for Sophie to stay the night.

"Of course not. You know I love having Sophie here. Aaron can stay in the extra room by Ashley's, I'll go make sure the bed has clean sheets." I smiled at her.

Now, the only thing left was to pick up Aaron, hope he doesn't blow the surprise I have for her, and wait for tomorrow to be a great day.
